A Glimpse into Acron: Attack of the Squirrels

WARNING: This is a highly addictive mobile and VR game that MUST BE INITIATED BY A PLAYER WITH A VR HEADSET (Meta Quest, Pico Neo3, Pico 4, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index or Windows Mixed Reality) and played with at least one person who joins the game on a mobile device (iOS 12.4, iPhone 6 and up).

The golden acorns are under attack! It’s up to you and your friends to protect them or steal them – depending if you are playing on a VR headset to take on the role of an extraordinarily protective tree or as one of several crafty yet thieving squirrels on mobile – in the cross-platform party game, Acron: Attack of the Squirrels!, from Resolution Games.

This hilariously fun experience must be initiated by a player with a VR headset (Meta Quest, Pico Neo3, Pico 4, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index or Windows Mixed Reality) who creates a room. He or she then connects to one to eight frenemies on their phone and/or tablet devices by giving them the assigned room number that they enter into their device when prompted in order to become rebel squirrels that’ll do anything to steal the golden acorns using an arsenal of unique abilities.

The game is at its best when played as a couch party game together with a group of friends and is both competitive and cooperative in nature for players across VR and mobile devices. Once in the game, one player in VR takes on the role of a large, ancient tree that tries to knock out the squirrels that are out to steal the nuts by using the controllers to grab and hurl wood chunks, boulders and sticky sap to keep the squirrels at bay. Meanwhile, the band of squirrels (players on mobile) can leverage a myriad of tools and distraction tactics – including the ability to pick up and plant seeds that grow into pumpkin barriers, plant bushes to hide behind, place mushrooms they can use as leaping pads and more – while working together to develop strategies to outsmart the tree in order to scurry around and gather as many acorns as they can.

Meet the band of rebellious squirrels out to steal the golden acorns:

  • Zip – quick witted and light-footed; she’s the fastest squirrel and has speed running abilities
  • Chunk – the gentle giant with a heart of gold who protects his friends by carrying a shield
  • Doug – not the smartest acorn in the bunch, but channels his rage issues to dig tunnels that allow for safe travel underground
  • Sim – a crafty little rodent who’s kind of nutty and builds ramps for vertical movement

What’s New in the Latest Update?

Find out what’s new in the latest version of Acron: Attack of the Squirrels updated on 7th September 2023:

  • The arrow pointing homeward when holding an acorn is now only visible to the player controlling that squirrel.
  • Made the "What’s this?" menu smaller, fixing an issue where not all content would be visible on some devices.

This is what our kids and nephews always want to play right now. Some of the mechanics are less than perfect but we think it deserves 5 stars for its overall fun and family friendliness.

Sometimes we joined the game and two hundreds of us springs out like a foubtain and tge game crashes. By sometimes we mean 20 times a night. Whenever this happens to any squirrel, rejoining doesnt fix it. The tree has to quit and create a new room which is a real boomer. Fix it asap pls.

We loved the game we have a vr and it’s the best it works for only newer phones unless you have a semi new phone it will work perfectly. This is our favorite cross platform game ever.

We got Acron today and its mind blowing! There have been games in the past where you play VR and another device, but everyone wants to have the VR, not this. In this its evenly amounts of fun, with you chucking tree balls at squirrels, or building up high in the sky trying to steal acorns. Personally if this game didnt have VR and was just a mobile game it would be fun still, but with VR is taking it to the next level.

Seriously the bees knees item 9! Super fun game with other players along with you. Didnt have too many glitches but maybe 2. Was still was smooth sailing and addicting! Would like option to turn head view a little better and possibly a way for phone users to communicate.

This is an amazing game. Our kids love it!! Awesome job to the creators.

We’ve been playing this with our kids on Quest. Its the the most fun weve had with VR yet! Great party game. Hope they make a single player mode soon.

This game is a great friends and family game, one thing we would love to see in the future is coins and being able to unlock outfits for the squirrels!

Its a good game we’ve played it on our friends phone but we cant get it to work on our phone. We have an iPhone 6 Plus and we can open it, but when we get into the lobby for the game it will crash.

The game is a blast as it is, but there are some definite QOL features very much needed. We need to be able to attenuate the aim assist of the tree, it is way too easy to nail squirrels left and right, this would be great for VR noobs or experienced squirrels VS a new tree, but in an even field the tree has a huge advantage from aim assist. Also needs a way to rejoin a game mid-session in case of the inevitable crash or connection loss.

We had three squirrels and the app ran flawlessly. Frame rate was buttery smooth and there didnt appear to be any lag between the phones and the Oculus Quest. It was fun to try the different squirrel powers and come up with strategies. At first the tree seems OP but once the squirrel players make coordinated attacks its anyones game. Buttons are nicely laid out and controls are super simple. We wish more developers made VR games like this! Complaint: we wish there was at least one more level, and one more projectile option for the tree. Maybe a vine whip attack? Also there should be handicap options to help balance the players.

Okay so our friends and we had been anticipating the release of this game for as long as we can remember. Today is the 29th and the app has just been released. Our friends and we all got together and we simultaneously opened the app with glee. However, to our extreme misfortune, the app crashed after four seconds of running. We were not dismayed though. For we opened the app a second time only to have it crash again. Similarly, our friend with an iPhone 6 experienced the same result. The only one of us to have the app work was a friend with an iPhone XR. So, in a hideous fit of pure rage, we screamed like a banshee and was unable to play on our phone. We were distraught. We have never been so sad and suicidal in our life. But we got to play on our friends iPhone XR so it was pretty good. 4/5.

The game is a lot of fun, and we had no problem with crashes as reported by several. The only problem we had was that it was far too difficult as the squirrels against the tree, and all noted it was too easy playing as the tree. The imbalance resulted in wondering if wed bother playing again. A simple solution is to only require the squirrels to get two acorns, leaving it up to the player to ramp up to 3 or 4. Regardless, a really nice game with solid mechanics – just make the difficult gameplay a little less difficult.

We cant give a full review of the game because we have been unable to use it. We tried our iPhone 7, vevo and Samsung with no luck. We have to give it 2 stars over a 1 assuming it is a decent game once functioning. The app keeps crashing with no possibility of exiting the app using the exit option on the app. Have to close the game by either restarting our phone. Or using the swipe up option after pressing home twice.

We have two iPhone 6 and iPad Air. It does work on the IPad well but there nothing we can do to get it to work on ether of the iPhone 6es. We choose the server US just like on the PC/VR and type in the number of the lobby/room. As soon as it connects the app just crushes to the home screen. Have tried to reset our WiFi/modem. Shut of all other devices to free up the channel – no help. It seams to be a really fun and entertaining game but no way we can make it work on our iphones. We would gladly change the rating and the review if we could get help and can work it out for our phones.

Really disappointed we got this on our quest and we cant even play on our phone because it makes our iPhone 6 crash right as it starts Playing on our other Friends phone it is a great game but that issue ruined it for Me.

However, the game is constantly crashing on iPad. It has crashed out to iOS, and requires room code to logon again. The game is also very laggy on iPad compared to other devices. Seems to be more stable on the iPhone and android phone.

App constantly crashes on our iPod.

Crashes or has control glitches on our phone and our wifes. Both of us on iPhone 6s devices. Super disappointed.

Room code just shakes when we try to enter room as if incorrect code was entered. No way to get in. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Love this game!! Its one of our favorite ways to pass time as siblings or with friends. All we ask is, more maps please!! We love every single one but weve been playing for so long, wed love something new.

We really enjoy this game and love that it can be played with a single vr headset. Feature requests: It would be cool to be able to use multiple vr headsets. Having multiple trees doesn’t seem quite right, but maybe additional vr headsets could join as squirrels? It could be cool to give the trees more types of rocks and let them choose their loadout before a game (keep the max at 3). We find the game is strongly weighted in favor of the tree. The ability to choose only one or two rocks (and/or choose to adjust cool down times) could let the tree increase difficulty. Finally, the inability to change camera angles on the squirrels needs to be fixed. Yes. There is an arrow above the squirrel pointing home. And that arrow will direct the squirrel right off a cliff, or into another obstacle. Keep the arrow. That’s fine. But we need to see where we’re going, even if that’s just a single button that toggles our camera view between facing the tree and facing the nest. Some of our friends refuse to play again because this feature is missing. It would be nice to let the cp’s use skins. We never use skins personally because it makes us stand out and let’s the tree target us specifically. But if the cp’s randomly had skins from time to time, we wouldn’t stand out as much. (We generally fill the game with max cp’s. They’re absolute garbage at playing and probably shouldn’t have the ability to pick up acorns or dig tunnels, but they do a good job distracting the tree.) Quick player tip: Before a game starts, the tree has the option to show or hide name tags above the squirrels. They’re enabled by default and clearly identify who the players are and who the cp’s are – because all the cp’s are named after their squirrel (i.e. Chunk, Dug, etc.) and players use unique identifiers. From the tree’s perspective, the name tags always show if the squirrel is just standing behind something and they occasionally show when the squirrel is hiding. So, changing your name to match the squirrel you’re playing can help you blend in with cp’s at a glance and avoid getting immediately sniped in a bush. Or you can ask the tree to hide the squirrel’s name tags. Other than the camera angles, we really like the game. Giving each squirrel a different power is nice. Chunk is our favorite. Being able to play remotely is fantastic. Overall, great game. It’s definitely more fun with more players.

WHY IS ACORN SPELLED WRONG IT IS ACORN NOT ACRON.

Our brother hogs the VR all the time and plays it with his friends please shut it down.

We LOVE this game. It might have some bugs but its such a good way to use your VR headset because so many people can have a fun time. This is a VR must (unless you never have anybody over)

The game wont stay open on our iPad and it allows you to use inappropriate names.

Needs more content! We’ve had the game for two years and its the first update since then. And for the VR version, it’s 15 dollars! For the little contact at this game has, it should be way cheaper, if not free.

Well after we got the oculus, we bought the game and our wife and kids had so much fun now is so boring, we think it need to add more maps bots make it really hard to beat them, also our son every time he plays on his tablet it just get stuck on the loading process.

So we downloaded this to play against a friend but he couldnt get it to work so we said ok imma just delete it and redownload when we play again tried to delete it and we cant.

Putting VR and outside players together is a genius idea. We wish more games would try to do this.

We rate this game 10/10 we love to play this game 24/7 we like the tree also but once we start with it the graphics start glitching or much but Im sure the game will get better on and on we do like the squirrels also and the attack but we also do think it needs better aiming, also when the squirrel goes behind you you can turn around but glitches the game a bit :) but we recommend this game 10/10.

Simply amazing game, but the one problem we have is that we have to wait for our friend (who has a vr) to get on every time we want to play. We think we speak for all players when we say that we NEED a multiplayer mode. Otherwise, its an amazing game.

Its only that u need a VR headset.

Our family loves to play acron on vr and you steel acorns please download.

Wouldnt change a thing its a great game.

The game is great but we feel like you should be able to do public servers because sometimes we want to play it but everyone else is busy.

10/10 rating. If you have the oculus, then the 20$ is 100% worth it.

We played with our family and it was super fun! Its was very simple so it was really easy to get into! Good family game.

Just stop complaining about your phone. Sure, the developers COULD pay more attention to the game, and the tree could be a little less overpowered. Yall need to stop focusing on the bad aspects of the game and enjoy it! Get your phone checked by a professional. Why cant you guys just be satisfied? Our family LOVES playing this. Were sorry if your phone crashes, but dont give it a one-star review. Thank you for your time.

This game is outstanding as a group game. Up to 9 players can play at a time. We play this game as a family a lot. Our kids love it too. They both love being the tree and being a squirrel. The only thing we would ask for is more levels. There are only 8 levels to play. The are very good. But some levels definitely are more likely the tree will win and some the squirrels will almost always win. This is okay because it makes you try different strategies. But it would be nice to have some more levels. The squirrels abilities are nice. The only one we dont use a lot is sim who builds the stairs. His is somewhat less useful other then building walls to stop the tree. The other thing that is a minor irritation is the bot squirrels often will run the acorn back towards the tree it is often easier without them.

This game is great but we need a way to turn the screen because we cant see anything and keep falling off a cliff since we cant change the perspective of the screen or even switch to a top view.

We think this is probably the coolest family game out there!! Us and our family play it allllll the time when were not busy we even take it on VACATION!! We definitely recommend getting a VR headset and downloading this game to your iPads, iPhones and VR headset. The only thing we can think of thats wrong with it is that sometimes it freezes or kicks you out but that doesnt happen very often. Weve played in all of the worlds and weve played with all of the characters and theyre absolutely adorable. Yall have honestly done an amazing job with this game. One thing though. Can you please add a few more worlds? Well other than the rare glitches this game is absolutely amazing and super adorable and we definitely recommend this game to anyone of any age.

We love the game so much it is so much fun to play with friends and family! It works like a charm but everybody has to have their own device or one person might have enough devices for everybody so yeah its a really fun game to play with friends and family and if you get this game we hope you enjoy!

Ever have a craving for cheese well this movie is filled with random people slapping each other really helps with our foot fungus.

Our family and we have spent so much time playing this game together. Its one of the few games everyone in our family enjoys playing with each other. Its a cheesy, nutty (get it?), incredible delight. Playing as the tree makes you feel like a final boss facing off against the protagonists clueless to their impending doom. Such a funny game. Such a delight. If you have a headset, a family and a bunch of smartphones lying around (or being used, whatever), youre missing out if you dont give this game a chance!

If you’re an actual gamer, this game is an easy 5. So many of the review complaints are just people who sound like they’ve never played a video game before. Super fun party game, beautiful UI. Very impressed with the developers, and thanks for the fun times!

Whether in person or playing across networks and operating systems, this is the best party game. Its family-friendly, each squirrel has its own super power, and up to 8 squirrels can play at a time! All you need is a room code! As the tree you get to toss projectiles and sticky goo at the squirrels or just grab and toss the squirrels themselves! Its hilarious, at times adrenaline-fueled, fun! We wish more games for Quest were like this! If you have a Quest or Quest 2 DO NOT HESITATE to buy this and support the devs! We need more games like Acron!
