User Reviews on ASL Word Search

All the reviewers saying the graphics are too small and too low-contrast are correct. The size might not even be that much of a problem if the handshapes were, say, bright yellow on a black background or vice-versa, but they’re black on a medium gray background – needlessly difficult to make out. And do people really not bother to bend their middle fingers when they sign the letter K? Because this is the second app we’ve encountered where K is signed with both fingers pointing straight upward, and we’ve never seen K taught that way. Kind of mystifying to us. But we still have a lot to learn, so maybe we’ll learn about that at some point.

Im loath to leave a bad review. We are giving two stars because the concept is wonderful and could be so much fun. However, its so tiny you cant see it on a phone. Additionally, its FULL of ads!! Long, loud video ads that you cant skip; and even when the button is there offering to skip, it wont allow it. We attempted to play one game, viewed two ads and deleted the app! The good news is, it was a free app!

Great concept but its very difficult to see the signs and with the dark background it takes us a long time to identify the letter then the timer kicks us out. Please redesign.

This is full of ads. In fact we couldnt even get to the ASL word searches because the ads wouldnt close and kept forcing us to download the games we were trying to close. We removed the App. Whats the point??

This app seems really useful, but the ads that you cant close make it useless. Id look for something more user friendly.

The game is fun and a good way to pass the time. While we doubt it will really help with receptive finger spelling (finger reading we guess) consider how morphed letters get with speed/fluency, but it is good if youre a beginner and get some letters mixed up. However, our biggest complaint is that the colors arent best for such small details rather than black on gray is should be white on black or something that makes the pictures stand out more without having the squint. We understand the images need to be small to fit more/large enough words so we hope the creators would change or change the art to something bolder for the sake of our eyes. Additionally, there was one instance which one of the words was blank, and because there was no option to not choose a word, the game could never be completed.

It will be fun once he changes the colors in this game! It is very difficult to identify the correct one with dark gray and black! Also, once you get the right word, the line crossing it makes almost impossible to see the square!

Why do we have to watch an ad before we can even start playing? And it can be confusing the first few times to even start the game. Beside that, this is very good to help us learn our asl letters.

This app is fun as heck, but we doubt it actually helps us comprehend finger spelling any better in real life.

We were so excited when we saw this in the App Store! But we cant play it – the pictures are too small for us to see :( Maybe they should have the option of smaller puzzles so the pictures are bigger.

This game is very helpful and fun. We really like how it times each game so you can get faster. However, the advertisements are VERY inappropriate! Our husband and we play this game as well as our kids. We will be deleting this great game because of the extremely inappropriate advertisements.

Thank you for this app . It is perfect game for learning . Is working good for our iPhone 6s . Tacoma WA 98498.

We’re taking Asl next semester-I find this extremely helpful as a refresher for the abc’s.

We find this app very fun and addicting. We just wish there were levels and the signs were better outlined because they’re kinda hard to see.

We’re giving it three stars because there is only one difficulty we wish there were harder puzzles.

It has some bugs. For instance, on the puzzle we just completed, it said the word "sound" was on the board but it was no where, we looked very hard. We did find O-S-U-N-D and tried highlighting it, since clearly the first two letters were switched, but it would not accept it. It has helped us learn the last three or four letters we always forget when trying to fingerspell, at least.

We are taking a course in asl but have trouble reading what others a signing. We learn better with games and this is helping us a lot with recognizing names. There are ads on the front screen but not when you’re playing the actual game. We wish the color scheme was a bit prettier, but as is we can see the hand sign just fine.

Man, we like this review and it will sure help us in 10th-12th grade. It took us 8 minutes and 55 seconds on the first try.

We love this app. It has help us grow in our ASL.

This is a fun app for those beginning to learn fingerspelling who want to work on receptive skills. It would be better if all icons were proportional. (Right now letters like B and F appear much smaller as letters like A and E are ‘zoomed in.’)

We like the app. We would love to be able to create our own word list for students to practice spelling words. (Dear Developer: we tried to send our comment on the website, but couldn’t get passed CAPTCHA).

We’re not able to use the app as the tiles are too small and the weight of the lines are too light. We have to strain to see and with some signs being so similar we are not able to differentiate.

Our daughter just started taking sign language and had to learn the alphabet first (duh). We always over research cool apps that go with anything we/the kids are interested in. This app is awesome and just a great way to reinforced signs! Has helped our rusty alphabet signs too. Although its a bit small on the iphone! Maybe not the new 6 Anyway, give it a try. We also like his other apps, including one that quizzes you on single signs…

This game’s pretty fun and a bit challenging. The only problem we have with it is that when a word is found a yellow line will go through it, and sometimes other words will have letters in the previous words found and it’s just hard for us to see the hands under the yellow line.
