OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME
The goal is to accumulate as much tricks as possible. And to exceed your score above 120. When your score is above 120 you win.
Rank in trump suit:
Spades and clubs: 5 (high), J, A, A, K, Q, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Hearts: 5 (high), J, A, K, Q, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 4, 3, 2.
Diamonds: 5 (high), J, A, A, K, Q, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 4, 3, 2.
Rank of cards in plain suits (no trump):
Spades and clubs: K (high), Q, J, A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Diamonds: K (high), Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, A.
Hearts: K (high), Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
BIDDING
The game starts off with Bidding stage of the game (15,20,25,30). You hold bids when you are the dealer and make bids if you are not.
CALLS TRUMP
If you have received the bid then you may call trump. Calling Trump allows you to decide what cards are the strongest. (Someone Always calls trump).
Discard Stage
The player whom called the Trump will receive a kitty (4 extra cards). When you receive the Kitty you will be able to discard cards. The player who did not call Trump will only be able to discard the cards he has.
THE PLAY
Each player, in turn, must follow suit if possible if trump has been player. If unable to follow suit, a player may play any card they would like. If players do not play trump they can play any card they like.
ACES OF HEARTS
The Ace of hearts ignores trump rules (Except when trump is Hearts). This card can be played strategically to maximize your trick taking potential.

Hello, Thank you for creating this app! We used to play this in college daily but the only way to play with and against our buddies would be online now but we are unable to create a game online. Please help with this. Thank you!

We love this app and play (Single Player) daily. We must admit we’re not the greatest player and we get quite discouraged when we see how many games we have lost. So we feel there should be a way to clear all game statistics in the Options menu. The only way we can do that now is by deleting the app entirely and reinstalling it from the app store. This gives us a nice fresh start but there really should be an easier way to do this.
Great game but online doesnt work for us.

We love that this game is available on here, and the game flows pretty well, but it seems like the distribution of cards are off. We play cut throat and the amount of times we miss a 20 bid because the computer player has 4 cards in whatever suit we bid in seems off. We should be able to get at least 25 with the 5,J,A of suit and King. Not sure if its an AI thing but thought Id share anyways. Will definitely keep playing though.
It was the spelling errors and grammar misuse that made us pick 3 stars. The interface is decent but its not conducive to an iPhone user. Every time we swipe up to play a card the phone thinks Im leaving the app. We cant anymore. Besides the computers cant beat us.
Thank you for creating this game. We have given a 5 star review previously and praised the work done so far. We also paid the 5 bucks to have the ad-free version. We are hoping you can solve the issues with the game freezing while playing online. We play with our brother late night (after working all day). Unfortunately, it wont seem to allow us to play a full game without seizing. We hope you are able to figure that one out. Thanks.
We believe its rigged for the computer to win most of the time.
It does not play like the real game. A bid of 15 is useless. The computer will 100% of the time out bid a 15. The computer can also get 5 new cards even when selected that you must keep one. The game of 45s is fun to play with actual people, but this game is just frustrating and not realistic.
The ability to be able to play your friends does not work. It does not allow you to search and invite your friends. Nothing happens. Restarting the app does not work. We would give this app a higher rating if that function worked.
It was great but recent update forces more adds and scoring stops working at 120.
We would rather pay a reasonable amount for an ad-free version.
Having played our entire life with our grandparents and parents since a very young age, our sisters and we are experts in 45s. We play only the Merrimack Valley Rules which are very specific. MUST follow suit at ALL times unless reneging. Dave from Hull, MA, is that how you play??? The Partners game is a total disaster. Cut Throat is better except for the following suit problem. Bonne chance Matt with fixing the Partners game.
The app doesnt understand playing partners. You cant read your partners hand. The game just comes out strong. No third man high. Third man high is a huge part of playing partners. Other than that the app is great.
The play of this app game is nothing like we learned in our childhood growing up in the Merrimack Valley. Plus the number of ads and the micro charges are disgusting. Make a game worth playing and maybe Ill pay money for it. For now, dont bother!
Our wife taught us this game and we have grown to love the cut throat version played with friends, however this app does NOT provide a random shuffle of cards, someone is always booked and the top cards never sleep. You have to bid 25 to secure a bid against AI… The play is accurate but the cards are not.
Good App, fun to play only 45s Ap we could find! We’ve been playing 45s for some 68 years, our Italian grandfather thought us the game growing up in Lawrence Massachusetts! 3 way cut throat is fun, wish the game had a 4 player 2 sets of 2 partners version !
Love this game. Anyway you can get it to be online with others. From New England, play a ton and live out of town now. Smaller fix that would be sweet would be to double click cards instead of dragging. Speed the games up huge. Would pay for an app that had online capability with friends.
The scoring is still not correct it seems if you don’t bid and still get points and you reach 120 you do not win the game but the next hand whether you bid or not and your score is already 120 from previous it doesn’t matter how many points you get then you win very confusing not knowing when you are going to win.
As others suggested you need to get rid of the hold button. Also The person winning the bid should be the one to lead out. Should only be permitted to discard 4 cards not your hole hand.
What is the purpose of collecting points?
Cut Throat has no idea how to set the bidder. Thats the whole drive behind cut throat. And 120 wins, whether you bid or not.
We play this game all the time and the cpu has all trump always it ruins the game and nobody can get all trump all the time FIX THE GAME.
We dont know where this guy plays but its not the same planet as the rest of us. Kitty deals 4 cards, you can discard all of your cards and regardless of how much we bid it wouldnt select the suit we wanted. Randomly selected whatever it thought we should for suit. Terrible Forty Fives game. Dont waste your time. ***Fixed some things, still not correct. If we win the bid we should play first card. Also, it bags you even if you pass sometimes. We cant see our hand because a button sits right on top, blocking the cards.
Slow play. Slooooooww The pass button covers your hand. Why do we need to drag our card to the playing area? The score board is confusing. How do we know who is dealer? Cut throat should be too set the bidder, not nickel grabbing. How do we know who took the bid? Not a friendly game play experience. Needs to be more intuitive.
We love 45s but its ridiculous that the app gets 5, jack, ace of hearts, etc often, we never get any cards needed from the kitty, we get dealt hands 90% of the time without even a face card. When we do get a face card its almost always just that one. We get dealt 5s and jacks when its the apps turn to bid and it always bids 20, so Id have to go to 25. When we do get a decent hand, the app always has great cards in our suit. The opposite is rarely true. Im getting ready to just delete this game bc its so frustrating. The app gets 30 like every other hand. Tired of trying to play when its so obviously is rigged.

Gameplay has improved. Kitty has been corrected. Seems like there have been lots of fixes to the game. It plays a little slow. But other than that, we think there have been some good changes.
45 card game should be that you can reneg on the the 5 and jack and ace of hearts unless a 5 is thrown and you only have the jack then you have to throw your jack also we should be able to click on our plays instead of sliding into a certain space and if you make a certain bid it should be exactly 15 20 25 30 unless bidder gets set a best suit for a 30 point win for an example would be. 5 diamonds jack of diamonds ace of heart ace of diamond king of diamond this is an automatic 30 point win we come from Boston area and all our life New England plays it this way. Thanks not a bad game though Thanks for the update however in 45s every trick should be counted for regardless who is the bidder we noticed if the other bidder makes a bid and we take some tricks our score remained the same which should have increased our score. Every trick should be accounted for and added to their scores regardless who is the bidder and who takes it 45 card game should be that whoever has the bid thats accepted that bidder throws his card out First the other players DO NOT throw a card out first and yes 5 and Jacks can be reneged if a 5 is not thrown and very important whoever reaches a score of 120 wins the game also we noticed the computer player seems to win the most hands!! Why is that?
Love this game but Latest version is buggy. Had to get used to new bidding and not clear what gain. Canada vs US rules could use some explanation. What are the differences? Im from New England but family is French Canadian. Not sure which version we grew up on. Most irritating/ in this update the computer got dumber – consistently seems to burn its highest trump to take our off suit lead. No fun beating a computer that doesnt play well.
Love this game but everytime the computer steals the bid. When the opponent deals we dont have the option to pass and the computer steals everytime except when we have a crap hand and get bagged with getting set also almost everytime we try to drag a card to the square it bounces back and we have to drag them twice. Super annoying.

These aren’t even the rules Plus the computer cheats Dude, if you could get this game authentic, we personally know hundreds of people who would use it Makes you bid to win…. You don’t accrue points when you’re on the green. This game is retarded Literally the worst.
The way we play you bid just once. We dont understand the hold for bidding. You bid and the computer holds so you have to bid again? It doesnt make sense for the way we play in New England.
Not as good as the old one, wish we could have that one back.

We’ve been using this app more since the other 45s app stopped working due to a IOS update. We agree with the prior comments. Get rid of the hold button. The bidding part of this app is a bit confusing. We like the option of having 3 cards in the kitty. You can get rid of the option for 4 cards as we’ve never seen it played that way. If you make the changes to the bidding function it will be a lot truer to how the game is played and Im sure you will pick up more subscribers now that the other 45s app is discontinued.
The rules in this game arent fully correct. 1. Higher cards: 5, Jack and Ace of Hearts should be able to renege in suit that you bid in. 2. There should be 3 cards in the kitty not 4. 3. There is noholding in 45s. This is not poker. One either bids or passes. 4. The option to get rid of all your cards is fine. Depending on where you come from, you need to keep one. 5. Sometimes the scoring (tallying of the score) is incorrect.
Every review has said this … Also why cant we pass when we dont want to bid. This is not Texas Hold-em there is no hold… You either bid or pass. If we open with 15… The next person who wants to bid has to bid 20 or pass. Play the game with someone so you learn the rules. Update… The bids are still wrong 1. There is no hold – it isnt poker 2. We should be able to pass if we dont want to bid to open it 3. If the second player wants to put bid our 15 they cannot say hold- again not poker- they have to bid 20 we still give it 2 stars… We keep trying it after the updates but still not good… Bring back the other one, it was perfect and actually like playing 45s.
Bring back the old game. This is not playable. There is no way you can pass and its not forty fives.
Similar but things are definitely off and nobody has ever heard of auction.
The bidding isnt right. There is no hold in 45s. If we want to bid 15 the next person has to bid higher. They should not be able to take the bid for 15.
What happened to the original 45s app? It worked great and it allowed for reneging, passing on a bid and allowed you to play cut throat. It was set up to play the way the game is really played. Our phone did an update and the app no longer worked and we cant even find it in the App Store anymore although our husband still has it on his phone. Please set this app up the way the game is really played or forget it all together. When youve been playing this game your whole life, you want to be able to play it the way you know how its played.
This is the most rigged game we have ever used. Deleting this game. We have played 45s for more than 30 years. This app is useless.
If Trump is spadesand you lead out with the Jack of spades and your opponent only holds the Five of spades, your app makes him play the five of spades which is incorrect. Your opponent should be able to play an off suit.
We’ve been playing this since we were a kid and the kitty is three, not four. The way you bid is stupid and the whole setup is awful. What happened to the other one? Some people say theirs is fine and it is the original. Others are having the problem where the main screen has 3 rings on the main page with letters in them, which our husband and we each have and you cant get past it. Give us the original back!!!!
