Find out what gamers are saying about Auro: Monster Bumping:

Im so happy this game is back on the app store. Whats more, they actually seem to have updated it from last time, adding little balance improvements and even a couple new enemies. This is one of the best pick-up-and-play roguelikes of all time. Even though the rules are simple, the gameplay is incredibly dynamic. In the higher levels, you are forced to come up with a novel and unique strategy to tackle almost every single enemy. There is no fluff here like in-app purchases, leveling, or metaprogression beyond just upping the games difficulty. Only rock solid gameplay. Its very unique; its closest peer would probably be Into The Breach, but that game is vastly different and not really good for pick-up-and-play. Auro is much more accessible, and worth picking up even if youre not that into the genre. Our only question is whats with the icon?? It used to be a cooler icon of the main character, but now its just a portrait of one of the weird looking in-game adversaries with the transparency messed up. We get it though we dont even maintain our own iOS game, since nobody buys it Im just really glad this is back on the app store.

One of our favorites, which deserves a lot more attention!

Seriously? Its a repetitious click-fest. At least it was cheap.

Oh man one of our favorite single player games is back. Get it. Its awesome. Edit: more info about the game. Its heavy on the strategy and planning and thinking multiple moves ahead. Most certainly play though the tutorial at least once. This game will challenge you consistently. We hope you give this a chance and enjoy as much as we have. So happy to have it back on our phone.

This is a really fun game. Intuitive but with layers upon layers of possibilities. Absolutely worth the price.

We’ve grown to lose interest in most games because they feel like pointless checklists. Auro reminds us of what we love about our favorite game – Into The Breach (which Id love to have on iOS). Enemy information is known to the player, you have a limited set of fun tactical abilities, and the consequences of your actions can be predicted & manipulated. The player is rewarded for putting thought into the game, and you arent surprised constantly with random events. Im really glad that the developer decided to update the game, thank you!

In this age of flashy, distracting but meaningless mobile games, its rare to see a game thats actually fun, let alone inventive. Auro manages to do both. Give it a shot. In this turn-based strategy game, you play as a little blond prince who defeats enemies by bumping them into water or pillars of flame. Different spells can do anything from shoot rows of fire to turn you into a raging yeti. The game can take a while to get into. The art design is unusual, and the spells dont seem to always make sense at first (launching a fireball on top of an enemy, the instinctual move of almost any other game, is often a wrong choice hereinstead you aim to the left of an enemy to knock him into a pit). Keep at it though, and youll find that theres a lot of internal logic and a great deal of thought and love put into making a nearly perfect strategy game. Easily worth the $5.

Although this game doesn’t make any sense at first, it gets better with time and experience. It is different each time you play so it doesn’t get boring. It could be ahead of its time.

Try as we might we can’t make it to 75 points or past level 4, but we keep learning new tricks and don’t feel like giving up. Worth a try!

Good game, nice pixel art. Sad, sad, sad that so many of the pixels are blurry. We guess it doesn’t play well with the iPad’s native resolution. Those combined with the black bars on the side make this feel like a low-quality, cheap game, not the pixel art itself. Too bad that such a nice game with nice art has these visual issues.

The game is great, but it freezes up on our 5S on the loading screen since iOS 9.0 came out.

Found this game because of the author’s podcast. He wants feedback so here goes: User interface clunky, text hard to read. Graphics, C-. Game concept interesting but confusing and hard to differentiate/remember what does what. Tutorial lacking and doesn’t prepare you well. Infuriating that we are in a timed game, need to plan our moves, and yet cannot see more than a few hexes. Keith you are obviously a smart dude, but you seldom talk about what the player feels, play testing, or your collaborators. We watched a Sid Meier 2010 keynote and that’s mostly what he talks about. Better understanding the psychology behind the player might aid you if you want future efforts to be more popular. (Episode 26). Good luck man. We’re going to give Auro a few more tries on our next flight.

Had expected a great game similar to Hoplite but instead paid a premium price for a game with grainy graphics, subpar audio, and poor gameplay. The "monster bumping" is simplistic and limited – we like the idea but it just wasn’t pulled off well. There are other, similar games that we much better than this.

Auro is absolutely worth a look – it is well designed, with interesting monsters and challenging game mechanics – we feel like it is a shining example of a game that is easy to learn, difficult to master. We do have one technical complaint, and that is that the game sound keeps playing even when our phone is set to mute – we have to turn the volume down if we want to play silently. For you newcomers, we recommend taking the placement test before your first real game, because the initial levels we found to be trivial and we didn’t get to the ‘real’ game until we hit normal mode – the placement test will let you skip the super-easy stuff.

We’re loving this game, it’s a great streamlined take on the rogue like genre with some seemingly new mechanics. The pixels and animations are lovely, however we don’t get to see them at their intended resolution because the iPhone6 is either stretching or squashing them. This causes everything to look crunchy. I’d really love an update to fix this issue. We’re a pixel artist myself and would like to appreciate all the hard work that went into this. Thanks!

A deep and beautiful game. Not less impressive than FTL or Monument Valley. Dinofarm, you rock.

Beautifully crafted, endlessly interesting. This is a true strategy game that you will get a little better at every time you play. Satisfying and just fun. Patch Update: How can you change fundamental gameplay and expect us to be happy? Answer: By making every single change seem like it should have been that way to begin with. Still love it. Great update.

Maybe the best roguelike of the year. EDIT: Update is good, but… We don’t like that the ice blast can’t push enemies anymore. Flying enemies are already tough to kill as it is.

The game will take a little bit to figure things out, but when you do you will experience simply the best balanced game ever!!! Stop reading and mash the buy button now! Do it!

This is a fantastic game. However, we’re not entirely sold on the most recent update. The developers are great in that they’re actively supporting the game, with copious and detailed patch details. But the most recent update completely changed the gameplay and in mind we’re not sure for the better. The ice ball is so nerfed now, making the flying enemies much harder. This makes the "ice vomit"attack much better, and the fire attacks and rotisserie are in contrast now OP. Likewise, the sudden level 4 surge in enemies seems kinda arbitrary, especially when everything’s randomly generated you’re not necessarily going to be suited equally right away to getting lots of combos that first level which is now so essential.

Gorgeous, fun, easy to play but difficult to master, one of the best roguelike / strategy / puzzle games you will find on the App Store There’s a bit of scaling issues on the 6 plus’ screen which we’re hoping will get ironed out in the next update, but don’t let that deter you from this great game. Once it is crystal clear this game will get the 5 star review it deserves!

There should be 5 spells, not 4 Lich is too strong Snowball should push back Spell recovery should require fewer points Should have ability to zoom out and see entire map Need additional monsters with special abilities that allow for complex interactions.

Starts and locks at the loading screen. Plenty of spare space on iPad Air but same thing every time. Bought at launch and locks got a refund. After the patch we bought it again hoping it was fixed and still the same problem. Little fixes are great but a game that won’t run never lets you see them.

We were sad that the graphics were so poor after buying this game for the iPad Air 2. (Obviously zoomed iPhone graphics) Now in the latest update, the screen is iPhone size and no longer zooms to the iPad size screen. Come on, developers…… Check your software before releasing to paid customers.

Wow, this is one of the best games we have ever played, on any system. The strategy. The art. The humor and trolling (in a good way). Im in love. The strategy is so deep and immersive (the most strategic mobile game we have ever played, and im a fan of many rogue-likes including 868-hack) and we never get tired of reading the dialogue. The tutorial was challenging in itself. And NO IN APP PURCHASES!!! This game is absolutely perfect!!! AMAZING replay value. Never gets old. Randomly generated levels and new challenges are always around the corner. The ONLY suggestion we have for an improvement is that sometimes the dialogue goes by too quickly and we sometimes can’t read all of it in time. We do like that the dialogue automatically progresses without any user input, but we would like it to be just a LITTLE slower. This is easily forgivable and only a suggestion to the developers if they read this. And its because we LOVE the dialogue so much that we care about this. Thank you so much, developers, for putting your heart into this fantastic work of art. We cannot stress enough how much we hope more people download this game and support you.

We can’t recommend this game enough. Best game purchase we’ve ever made on iOS, easily… And we’ve made a lot. We can’t get enough of this game.

There is nothing out there that matches the craft, innovation, and fun of "Auro: A Monster Bumping Adventure". If you like rouge/strategy games and if you like your games to be challenging, beautiful, cheeky and inspired, seriously go and buy Auro. The music is a gorgeous mix of sweeping orchestral melodies and cool "Labyrinth"-esque synth, the art is colorful, dynamic and stunningly rendered and there are no tacky pop up adds or in app purchases. It is evident that the developers and artists at Dinofarm Games have poured all of their effort and love into making this game exciting, memorable, stimulating and impeccable. Our favorite thing about Auro is that it’s never boring. There are endless combinations of how you can kill monsters. Some of the most fun ways are dunking a monster (like the bats or liches) into their watery graves, using the jellies to bounce monsters, throwing smokey flavored monsters to set other monsters on fire, and tricking heavy monsters into walking on ice (their stupidity is amusing). Those are only just a few ways, there are so many more that you can discover! The spells are not only beautifully animated, they’re also wicked fun to use, especially blast. Also, the squids and their sassiness are delightful. The other monsters look cool too but the squids are our fave. If you buy Auro, it will easily be the best app on your phone.

Want a game that you know you getting a steal price for ? That your going to get limitless hours out of? A game that the developers are still evolving and making better and better to this day ? Look no further this game redefines and sets a new standard for what a video game should be like on ANY device let alone a phone!!

First of all, the gameplay is incredibly well-balanced and addictive. If you liked their previous game, 100 Rogues, you’ll like Auro, too it has the same feel, both stylistically and in gameplay. We’re knocking it two stars because it feels like the main play mode, a ladder-based challenge mode, is kind of a cop out. It plays like an endless training simulation. They added these scrolls you randomly find to gradually give you a sort of story but it doesn’t really hold together as a narrative. A story mode would offer the opportunity to add bosses and variation to the maps to mix things up. Speaking of maps, there’s basically only one map you start from the top left and work your way southeast to a set of warp tiles. There could be a king of the mountain mode with a circular map, a narrow linear passage, a series of islands, etc. Overall a good game, we’re just disappointed they didn’t go further with the play modes after all the work they must have put into play testing and balancing the basic tactical gameplay to near perfection. Keep updating! We would totally upgrade to play story mode or for new maps to play on.

Ugh. Deliberatly low resolution graphics whithout a sense of retro appeal. 31 tutorial lessons about half of which describe but don’t show you what to do making it more difficult to learn how to play. We admire the designer’s game Empire and appreciate his blog posts on design philosophy but we could not get past the poor presentation choices on this one.

Been playing for short while and already hooked… It’s like the updated version of Battle Chess… With bumping…a must have for tactical strategy gamers.

This game is for anyone who has an appreciation for uncompromising, air-tight design.

You can play this game for hours on end because of the sheer depth of mechanics. Plus there’s always the ranked status that you can work on. Love it.

Its clear this game was made with a lot of passion and love. Dinofarm Games poured tons of creativity into this, and they focused on depth and atmosphere while cutting out needless distractions. There are no game-interrupting cutscenes or unnecessary play concepts here, and we really like that. The game has a steep learning curve, and serious tactical consideration is necessary to win. Even the smallest monsters can be a challenge if theyre positioned an inconvenient space. The good news is that the levels and monster layouts are always randomized, and theres no time limit for your turns. Whats more, the game is designed for self-competition, not completion. You can enjoy it at your own pace and learn from each situation. When we first played the tutorial, we were overwhelmed at the variety of moves and gameplay possibilities. Since Im poor at thinking several moves ahead in games, we didnt think Id succeed. The more we played, though, the more evident the strategies became to us, and we were hooked. Our only tiny suggestion is that the game offer an optional slow mode that better illustrates the attacks and their effects, instead of whizzing through them as it does. We understand whats going on now, but at first it was difficult to recognize the effects of our actions, and what monsters were hitting us. We think it would help communicate and reinforce the games logic to new players.

A very clever game, very cute, and lots of developer support. Don’t miss this unique and fun game!

We just finished playing the very well done tutorial and am very impressed with the depth and quality of strategic gameplay. We are excited to keep playing!

If you’re on the fence about this, don’t be. Really great game that should last months if not years on some people’s devices. Kudos to the developers, great work and worth the time that went into it.

[update] After hours of play, the only issue we’re having is that the first bit of dialogue at the beginning of a floor is often skipped, but we expect this will be fixed soon, and it has no effect whatsoever on gameplay. [/update] we’ve been anxiously awaiting Auro’s iOS release since its announcement years ago. This could be the best game in the app store! A smart hex-based strategy game that increases difficulty to match your skill level. Includes an optional tutorial mode which teaches you concepts one at a time. If you’re looking for a game that makes you think and is designed around extremely easy to use touch controls (even on a small screen!), then this is the only game you’ll ever need. Look up some gameplay videos on youtube if you still aren’t sure. Incredible depth, beautifully animated pixel art, great music. 10/10.

Now this is what a mobile game is meant to be! Absolutely beautiful graphics with a nice style and great repeatable gameplay. Great job to the developers of this one.

When we found out this was made by the creators of 100 Rogues, we pounced on it. They have a great history of making minimalistic games for iOS that never seem dated. The replayability of their games is unrivaled. Going through the tutorial and playing a couple games we can already tell this is no exception. Auro is a fantastic strategy game with immense depth. The ever shifting level & spell layout makes for many hours of fun. The quirky artwork alone is worth the price of admission. Lovers of strategic, boardgames, or rogue like games need to pick this up with all haste.

Lots of polish and fun gameplay. Had an issue where movement didn’t work even after restart, and could not resign the active game, but it fixed itself the next day.

… Featuring pipes stolen from the Mario universe!" rolls eyes

Great strategy, chess-like game but it crashes often. We lose our progress and have to start over. We’re also unable to move at times and can only restart. Would be a 5 star game. Hopefully they fix this bug with an update soon. Also, would be nice if you can scroll around to see where obstacles are.

We were a big fan of the previous Dinofarm game 100 Rogues, so we signed up as a beta tester for this game several years ago. We’ve watched it go through countless iterations and have spent literally hundreds of hours playing it, and we can honestly say its one of the best games we’ve ever played. Most games these days are basically idiot proof; anyone can beat them if you just play for long enough, and you never actually have to develop any particular skills or strategies in order to excel. Auro is the exact opposite its all about skills and strategies. And dont be fooled by the bright colors and cute characters; beneath the hood this is one of the most fiendishly complex games ever devised. Youll think longer and harder about each move in this game than you will while playing almost any other game. It also has some of the most appealing pixel art we’ve ever seen. You will never again in your life get so much value out of a $3 purchase than you will by buying this game.

Never gets passed loading screen, even after restart:(
