A Glimpse into Awkward Guests

This app is a companion for the boardgame "Awkward Guests". With it, you’ll have new cases in your mobile device, and when you decide to solve you’ll be able to check if your solution is correct.

  • 1.000 different cases

  • 7 difficulty levels

  • Solo mode for 1 player

  • Avoids player elimination

  • Solutions checked inside the app

  • Languages supported: English, Spanish, French, Chinese, German, Polish, Russian and Japanese

"Awkward Guests" is a boardgame of mystery, deduction and cards, in which each case recreates, in a completely different manner, the night when Mr. Walton was murdered. The players must take on the investigation and, through simple logic reasoning, find out the culprit, the motive, and the weapon of the crime.

We have played a few games and love using the app. It has a ton of different cases (and different difficulty levels) and we love the fact that if you guess wrong you can still be in the game. We havent tried solo mode, but multiplayer works just fine! A must have to accompany the board game (really fun game, better than Clue in our opinion).

All the scenarios present in the art booklet are missing in the app. Only the scenarios present in the instruction booklet are in the app which is very disappointing. Would have been easy for the developers to include both.

Tldr: Love the game, tolerate the iOS app we love Awkward Guests. We use the app a lot since we primarily play the solo mode, but on our phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max) the graphics are all stretched to fill the screen, rendering everything squat & finicky to interact with. The app looks excellent on any iPad we’ve used it on, and also renders nicely on a friends Android phone with a just-larger screen than ours. Speaking of the Android version: why cant your iOS players have handy, easy drop-down menus? Scrolling to select inquiries/solutions is an absolute pain, especially on an iPhone where the graphics have already been mangled & squashed to fit the screen. For such a top-notch game as AG, the app feels very indifferent to its own existence despite being the primary means for your players to extract the most value (replay-ability) out of their purchase.

We use this app while playing the game with others to prevent player elimination. It works, but wish the app would tell you the guess was wrong. Instead, it just goes blank. When correct, it tells you, and celebrates. That little fix would clear things up. The design for small scrolls was odd, it works, but opening it to pick might have been a little better.

As of now (Aug 7, 2019) we cant get the solo mode to work on our iPhone X. It starts the case, gives us 5-6 card numbers but then we cant do anything else. There is a Next button but it is unresponsive. The only buttons we have that do anything at that point are Back and Solve. Neither of which we want to do. Would love to try this game solo, but seems like we cant at this time. UPDATE: Oct. 4, 2019. The latest update seems to fix the two largest issues people were having (solo mode not working on certain iPhones and there not being a language selector) so we updated our rating to 4 stars.

App works well. Solo mode is good, but we keep getting an EXCESS amount of duplicate cards, more than necessary. Please fix the large amount of duplicate cards if you can!

App is barely out of the womb and most people dont even have the game yet. Still, someone felt it necessary to give it a one star rating. Slow down there Ebert.

Works okay on our iPhone 7. Played through it twice. Took us a few minutes to realize that you can scroll on the menus. Played beginner and solved it easy despite still learning the game/app. Played easy with our kids, who "helped" us. Had to guess the person as we ran out of points. Seems fair since our "help" consumed a lot of points to check rooms that werent of much value to us.

Please fix the next button not working!

The next button doesnt work in solitaire mode.
