We sure would love an opportunity to resign a game when its clear that Im just going through the motions of taking stones off the board but that Im going to lose. Its really just a waste of time.
Without the ads it is a fun game.
Sometimes hangs up and we have to delete the app and reinstall it.
This Game could be great if they fix the automatic move when there is a one. Sometimes it moves by itself. Also, it would be great to have a resign button to speed up play when its obvious that the game cannot be won.
It is obvious that this update is not for the animation, please be kind and add statistics to the game.
Loved this game for a long time but, since ios 15 the game is really jumpy. Long delay between rolling dice and moving , computer moves are invisible. Hope they update soon. Now works with iOS 15, thanks for fixing.
Like many others we complained about rigged dice at HARD level. Recently however it seems more fair and more exciting. Perhaps they noticed the complaints and readjusted it. In any case, Im enjoying it much more now.
As others have mentioned, the double rolls that the computer gets is statistically very unlikely. It is somewhat frustrating to play a well thought out match only to lose it due to the computer rolling doubles 4 times out of 6 rolls. We also question the randomness of some of the other rolls when its tight or the computer is behind if you roll in a way that forces you to open up a piece, the computer seems to almost always magically roll that number. However, it is just a game and you know when youve won on your strategy and merits and the loss is bogus. So overall its still fun to play.
Paid for the ad free version but we are still getting ads.
Is it possible to make the dice rolls completely random??? Enough with levels. Hard totally cheats.
We have the purchased app. The computer dice rolls are high number multiple double. Our doubles are ones, no high numbers. The computer single rolls are high numbers, ours low number like 2/1. Clearing off the computer rolls two to three double. Us one or two several times. The game should be challenging and not cheat with dice rolls. This is unfair. Im canceling our subscription and the app.
We paid for premium but yet they still force us to see commercials and it is breaking our flow to play games. This is new. We paid so we can stop commercials.
This game has a nice interface and is easy to work. There are two things that need to be added/changed. First, and this one is minor, is there needs to be a conceded button. As it is, you have to go back to the menu or play out the game. Second, and this one cost it two stars, is the dice rolls. They are nowhere near random. Playing against the computer, the computer gets many more doubles and in numbers that best benefit it. When you get doubles they tend to be less useful, like many times you get doubles you cannot use when you are on the bar trying to get back in. Also, when a marker is on the bar, the computer gets in much quicker than you do. Finally, the number of times that the computer rolls just what is needed is astronomically off the charts statistically. Fix these two issues and this is a world class app. Until then, its a dog.
Great app; cheats horribly. Heres how we deal with it: dont just undo to change your move, undo your actual dice roll itself. This sometimes beats the cheat. If it doesnt, we will undo until we can thwart the cheat either by blocking its move, or by taking it out completely if we can! Sometimes involves multiple undos, but we feel vindicated for beating the cheat! Would be a five star game without the cheats, but we can only give it three stars. Buyer beware.
Lately the game freezes when we hit Undo. We have to remove the app from our ipad and reload it, otherwise it doesnt respond. Seems this app is no longer supported.

We have the same complaint as many others. Im a very good backgammon player. However, when we go into the expert mode, the computer beats us every time, and kinda knows what to roll.
On Hard level, theres something wrong with the logic. The amount of doubles that get rolled is statistically hard to believe. We enjoy playing the game but there are times when everything seems to go the computer players way. Its like their version of hard is to give the computer an unfair advantage, not purely strategic.
The host gets doubles 10 times more often than the player, makes it not much fun to play.
Would be great in hard mode if computer rolls were truly random. It is way too coincidental how many doubles and exactly needed moves computer rolls. Also often wont give rolls to jump computer open men.
This game is much better than others we have played. Our main nitpick is that the pips move slowly after a player has selected his or her move.
Id like to see our total wins versus losses.
Like others who have reviewed the game, we have experienced the computer player somehow getting precisely the roll needed to knock us off the board a large percentage of the time as well as winning almost every opening roll, but worst of all is that once the game comes down to a race, the computer will roll double after double. These are often large doubles (5s or 6s). We just watch it win 3 games in a row where the computer player rolled at least 3 and in one case 5 large doubles in a row to win games where we had a fairly substantial leads. We wish the development team would use a random number generator to make the game fair.
That is, unless you constantly re-roll the dice. Optime: ask AI to write you a better algorithm, eh.
Unfortunately the behavior of the undo button has changed in iOS 18. For example if you roll a 6,1 and you want to use the 1 first, that is no longer possible. So basically its not backgammon anymore. Please fix this because we paid for this game and also because its one of the best ones available (or rather, it was).
Ive been playing this one for quite awhile and its clear that the algorithm favors the computer. Its very rare that it makes a mistake and lets you win but it does happen once in awhile. Ill be looking for another one thats more fair.
Optime Backgammon has a beautifully designed user interface and is very stable in its functionality. However, we have to agree with many of the other reviewers that the number of timely doubles the computer throws for itself in Hard mode is beyond credible. Likewise, in Medium mode, the system favors the human with ridiculous frequency by foolish moves and more doubles. Why not design a fair game and give us the option of throwing our own dice and inputting the results? The answer is obvious. Apple, shame on you for allowing this.
The house always has the exact roll for him and against us.
We like the game but the ads are terrible. We paid for no ads and still get them which is frustrating.
Freezes up. No solution other than to remove app and reload. Waste of time.
For the 2 player games you cant play online you have to use the same device.
Classic theme latest update Graphics are clunky. What used to be a smooth experience now has pauses where none were before.
This was one of our favorite games, but now its nearly impossible to play. After the most recent apple update its glitchy, slow and occasionally unresponsive. Please fix /update your app ASAP.

Good game play and nice graphics, one of our top time wasters. Bugs: runs but can't exit on iPhone OS 13. In the modern interface stones make a strange little bounce when coming off the center bar.
Do not like the new board. The previous one was much nicer, easier on the eyes. Could we get the previous one back? The computer gets way too many doubles, and it always seems to get just the role it needs when you leave a piece open.
Doesnt avoid backgammon when thats the obvious move. Accepts bets when with odds against it are too high. Sometimes makes strange moves like uncovering 4 pieces in front of its opponent. Has a very realistic looking board.
The computer rolls too many doubles, especially in a situation where it needs to roll one to win. CHEATS.
We play this game A LOT in expert mode. We cant help believe the algorithms the developers use are by chance. We think the game would be much better if the dice roll was indeed random. Just the same it engages our mind and helps clear the brain fog.
We absolutely love this app and game but for some reason it is not working on our iPhone 12 it is very slow the game is just not working correctly and we purchased this app and we would really like it fixed.
Loved this app until we upgraded to iOS 15. App is delayed action now, not fluid on the iPhone as it used to be. Seems to be fine on the iPad. Will upgrade rating when the update is done.
The simple fact that we have gone through hundreds of opening rolls when playing the computer and there has never been a tie shows that it is not a truly random number generator creating the rolls. You can make a hard mode without presetting the dice rolls or controlling them during the game. It removes all fun from the game.
Good game, BUT the computer seems to have an abundance of doubles and perfect rolls, when needed. Seems rigged in favor of the computer opponent.
Consistently see the computer rolling doubles three and sometimes four times consecutively. In addition, almost every time our stone or piece is alone is almost always hit. Your random number generated rolling is really off and manipulated. Not realistic anymore.
Gameplay is super buggy since upgrading to 15.
Ever since we installed iOS 15 it does not work. You dont see the computer roll or move.
The game does not function of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Probably something to do with the refresh rate. But we cannot see the opponents dice rolling nor can we see their moves. You should look into this.
