Baldur’s Gate – Dark Alliance Reviews

So does it just auto dump your stat points into Str for you or something? We dont think we got to choose, and we doubt Id pick str on a sorc.

If youre going to play this on your phone get a controller. We there than that this game is amazing!!!

What an excellent port to mobile! Hopefully there are plans to port the sequel as well. Please fix the issue where you can’t choose what stat to level, unable to move the cursor off of strength using touch controls.

We wish it had better controler support.

For when the game was made, it has gotten some upgrades to graphics and faster functionality in our perspective. Loved the game as a kid and has Britten back key memories for us in our mid-20s. 5stars best hack and slash there ever was in our opinion.

Everyone has had their say on game control issues, and yes, the bow/arrow aiming is challenging but we think the other item to be addressed is the fact that the game is so short. We never played this as a console game, but we finished this with ease using the iPad controls, not a joystick. Addons? DC? Ill play again with a sorcerer and see how that goes.

Awesome game. However we have played half way through and the game has bugged out and we cant seem to load our saved game. We guess Ill have to start all over.

We have found a major bugs with two player mode. 1) the second player does not consistently increase levels even though the player has more than enough experience 2) the 2nd player cant bring up inventory 3) you cant change which player is 1st Features request: Player two players via controllers on a iPad is really annoying. Can you please add multiplayer support over the network instead ? The choices of weapons in the shops is poor and doesnt appear to change. That is not how similar games work.

Im very glad this game came to iOS. We havent had any issues with gameplay, the only grievance we have is when playing with a DualShock 4 it does not give the square, cross, triangle, circle prompts. Just the ABXY.

We absolutely loved this game growing up. We bought used Xbox consoles over the years just to play this game over as an adult. When we saw this hit iOS we immediately bought it and this was the best 10 dollars we ever spent! Best game on our phone by far! Our only reasons for not giving 5/5 stars is because the controls are hard. Since Im used to a controller, switching to a touch screen control is so akward but we learned quickly! We cant seem to figure out how to add their level up points to their strength, dexterity, charisma etc. We also hate when you are running through your level and the camera angle forces you to turn with it. You cant aim at hitting your opponent because the turn of your camera angle doesnt allow you to aim straight forward and when youre fighting thieves with little to no armor and weak weapons, you end up dying too easily. Since we’ve played this game many years ago we knew where to go and what to do so this game is fantastic that it stays true to the original! But it doesnt have the written blurbs about your rings and amulets. You cannot scroll your inventory nicely you have to flick your finger down a bunch of times off your phone. This is hard for us because of our phone case. We will likely have to buy a controller if we want to beat the upcoming bosses in the onyx tower. We havent figured out how to play two player but we hope the developers allow us and our friends to play multi player on our own phones, in different locations. How great would it be to play this game on the phone with our brother who lives in another location. We will definitely buy the other dark alliance games if they move to iOS because of nostalgia. To anyone who has not played this game before there are some minor bugs that normal phone games wouldnt have because this was originally an Xbox game, but with practice its actually really fun. We love the elf and her magical sword spell. It uses little mana and helps give you extra hits when you cant get close to the bosses this spell was fantastic! We cannot fathom how hard this would be to play as the human archer it appears the dwarf and elf are the best options for the iOS system! If youve never played this game Id definitely recommend its worth the 9.99 just always remember to run back and save because enemy swarms are no joke when trying to aim this is a great game! We hope developers fix the minor problems and make the controls slightly better! Over all this is great! You wont regret your purchase.

Love this game. Controller support would be amazing!!

We like the controller support but it is a bit buggy like we have to use touch to pick up items and things. Please fix!

Had fun, but our Sorceress doesnt level up correctly. We know we should be able to assign attribute points every 4 levels, but the game doesnt let us do that. It shows the attribute screen for a split second and then goes straight to skill points. Im then unable to go back. If this isnt fixed, the game is pretty unplayable for us.

Review updated as per request-and again after update. TLDR-horrible touch controls, basically unplayable-devs remain silent. DO NOT BUY. As per the title this seems a quick cash grab striking the nostalgia of the original game back in the day but this is little more than a janky shadow of the original with frustrations controls. The touch controls/targeting are incredibly clumsy and you often end up facing the opposite direction you intend to go making even the simplest of tasks/enemies difficult . We have been playing a RPG since the first of Diablo, and even the rats in the first mission were a nightmare to target . Looking to other iOS ARPG ports, such as titan quest, or even Hero Siege, the controls are simply inexcusable and in desperate need to adaption/tweaking. Meaning that if you were not using a physical controller the game is near impossible to play. Clearly, this is just a port of the PS version with no effort given to the mobile platform touchpad controls or targeting. Menu interaction seems to be based on a PC version as well, making for a clumsy interface, which seems as if it was given no thought for the medium in which they are selling it. We should have researched the publisher before buying as the game is not playable as it is without a controller currently. We guess only time will tell to see if they actually update anything or leave this as vaporware. Still have perfected. It could be a great game if they fix it, and hopefully lead to that a release of Champions of Norrath. Running on a 2021 12pro.

Works flawlessly with controller on iPad Pro M2 This game is a bit slower and more methodical; excellent gameplay. No issues so far after ~8 hours with a dual sense and a DS4 controller.

We got this game on demo (PS2 disc) when it came out, got it for PS2, kept our PS3 just so we could play it, have it on XBOX, and now downloaded on XBOX Series X, and yes of course now for iPAD!!! Have an M2 this works very well, only grumble is scrolling is a little painful, wish buttons on right were a little larger, but we cant really complain to have this gem back. We wish they made more like these there is so much AD&D content just waiting to be created this was just a taste. Thank you!

The reboots to pc and ps4 have been a delight, but this is unprecedented. This is now the best mobile game, congratulations, Black Isle Studios, ya did it. And what a great port, the controls are not original, but they feel great. Bring on DA2!

Just downloaded this game. Nice surprise – an excellent game so far.

Works great with controller, quality game , playing on ipad a14 with minimal issues. Good job.

Now Im waiting for baldurs gate dark alliance 2 and champions of norrath.

In need for back one controller update other than that nostalgia at its finest!!

You guys. This was literally our favorite ps2 game growing up, and oh our goodness has this delivered and then some. We’ve been playing with the Backbone and the graphics are chefs kiss. Best purchase of an app. So easy to handle. Did we mention no loading screens?

We’ve completed the game on every difficulty and have started on EXTREME DIFFICULTY. (Btw we believe there is a glitch with being able to import characters into the Gauntlet(unless it does that after completing Hard difficulty)) Im so happy this game came to IOS! They did a wonderful job! Im to the third chapter in the swamp and everything has been perfect. Our brother and we used to put HOURS into this game constantly doing new games to get better gear. Love it!

This game is the best, simply put. Owned it when it came out on the OG Xbox. Loved it. Still love it. Now Im playing it through with our 11yr old son. Hes enjoying it as well. You can Bluetooth 2 controllers to your phone and play couch co-op. Airplay it on a big screen. For $5this is an absolute no brainier of a purchase.

This is amazing. Love this game so much. U guys transferred it to iphone really well. But now u know we’re gonna be waiting on the second one…

Title says it all – awesome. First time playing this game and Im blown away by the production.

This game has so many great aspects, its a decent port of the original. Game is clearly intended to be played with controller as touch screen can be seriously frustrating. Some obvious areas of improvement: interface scrolling, inventory especially are really cumbersome. Seems like a glaring oversight as a few scroll buttons on the gui would solve. As it relates to game control, touch aiming doesnt work nearly as well as controller and with 2 of 3 chars being ranged, an aim-assist would do wonders. The rest of the issues are really with the original game, save check points, the frustrating thieves guild platform jumping, bosses that can one-hit kill your etc, all of which will tempt the less-than-committed to quit and not return. Aside from all that, it is a really great game, derived from great source content and the the OG RPG brand. Im satisfied but not elated.

We were hoping for something like Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale but its really more like Diablo IIRC. Which we enjoyed as well, but know your audience! BG enthusiasts like the relaxed pace of turn based combat and puzzle solving and lots of control over character stats. This game has a lot of arcade style play. The disappearing islands have now gotten really old and youre not even allowed to save whenever you want which makes it worse. We dont own a game controller but it looks like one will be required to play this successfully. The iPad controls are too clunky to do these precisely timed jumps. Certain controls dont even seem to exist without a controller, like moving the camera lower so missle weapons can be used effectively. Ones finger tends to drift off of the attack button in the heat of combat so suddenly youre swapping weapons or picking up stuff instead of attacking the guy trying to kill you. Enjoying it, but not sure it will last. Going to try one of the other two (!) character choices.

Definitely has potential. We do, however, wish that it had a story mode like the original games from Bethesda.

So excited to play this but we cant seem to interact with anything in game in iPad.

Heres the thing guys, its always been a great game but unless you are playing with a controller you are not getting passed certain parts. You cant get behind opponents and switch from blocking to attacking quickly enough. We took off our screen protector, we tried – its just not responsive enough.

The floating (and disappearing) platforms in the Thieves Guild is really, really, really frustrating us, causing a lot of wasted a lot of time and energy, and reducing the fun factor to zero. In an hour, this three-star review will zero out. Times up. Im fed up with the run-jump-die-restart, run-jump-die-restart, run-jump-die-restart, run-jump-die-restart, run-jump-die-restart, crap. These constant and repeated micro-millisecond-reaction-time gymnastics are not what we signed up for in a Bards Tale adventure game. It stopped being fun over an hour ago. What a waste of money!

What a major disappointment to the BG set.

The camera keeps rotating on its own when you attack enemies. It is really annoying and making it unplayable for us. You can fix it by enabling the option to fix the rotation of the camera. Also rotating the camera manually is such a pain as you need two fingers to do that. So you cant move while you want to torture the camera.

Cant select which stats we want upgraded.
