Baldur’s Gate II: EE Reviews

Good game. We’ve played through it many times.

We played the original BG series to TOB series on PC many years back and to this day this still is our favorite RPG. We were excited to see the mobile port as well as the SOD and wanted to try taking a character through all 3 games. Still the best RPG experience imo. Great port. We played the entire series on an iPhone 8plus. Screen size is fine and very playable once you increase the font size. The only 3 suggestions we have to make this even better 1. Make some connection to the characters relationship between SOD and BG2. For example, make a quest in BG2 to recover the soul taker dagger to prove your innocence or have people like Viconia or Neera acknowledge the SOD events. 2. Id like to see Corwin added to BG2. 3. There are some events like Dorns TOB quest where half the party loads off screen and cant be accessed. Minor bug, pocket plane back and forth fixes it.

This game Is beatiful , have great history.

Proud to say this is the first game that 6 year old us ever played. And we find myself still playing to today. We could drag on about how great this game is or what not. But just know that all your favorite RPGs can be traced back to this series. 22 years old and truly revolutionary and as close to perfection as we can get to a RPG. 9/10.

If youve stumbled upon this game at random, without having played the PC version when it came out long ago, youre in for a treat. This is not just some random indie game developed for iOS. In fact, youve stumbled upon what is widely regarded as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, computer RPGs of all time. It came out originally in the early 2000s, but is still ranked as one of the best of all time on Metacritic. Even with its dated graphics it holds up to the likes of Skyrim, etc., with ease. The game is complex, rich, and colorful. And for a first-time player it will be quite challenging, which is a good thing. If you can get past the somewhat dated graphics, you will be addicted. And frankly, even though the graphics are somewhat dated, they still provide a strong overall aesthetic that in our opinion provides players with a much greater impression of them places the graphics represent than MANY games with far more advanced and modern graphical engines. Many new games just dont give you the vibe. So dont let that stop you from diving in. Enjoy.

We’ve never played the pc version of any of these games and now we get the chance to play some of the greatest rpgs of all time.

Will iPhone XR be supported soon? Want to play again but text is barely legible on this device.

We click the circular arrow icon but it just disappears.

We have been looking for a game that imitates Dungeons & Dragons and we finally found this game and bought it 10 out of 10 stars.

2.6 patch is about to drop. Devs support the game and continue to fix and improve (slow but they do support it). Infinite replay ability and story. Own a piece of history. Do yourself a favor buy the whole collection.

Many years ago we purchased this for our computer used for $5. Our ex was beside herself upset because Id never even played the first Baldurs Gate. We played the heck outta that game. We were so excited to see this ported over to iOS we gladly bought it several years ago and played the heck outta it again. Just as beautiful with all the wonderful effects, compelling story, and challenge. If this is your first ride, hold on. While it isnt a 3d whirlwind world, it is a Dungeons & Dragons masterpiece that is likely to occupy much of our time yet again . . . And again . . . And again . . . .

This is one of our go back toos. Ya have huge amount of options in characters, and an abundance of customization in the characters abilities. No level cap do can up the difficulty and still enjoy. Warning mind flayers are tough, haste group send skellys 5 seconds before group CHARGES!!!!

We never had a PC because its expensive to get a decent set and itll be awhile before we could afford one. We love RPGs because they offer a world to explore and interact with. We heard of all these classic games of the Baldurs Gate series and Planescape Torment. Once we heard theyre available on IOS, we immediately bought them and Im glad we had the chance to finally play them. We were glued to the phone for hours and hours of playing the Baldurs Gate saga. From BG1 to BGSOD (which we found more entertaining than BG1) and finally to BG2. We havent played a game this good since Fallout New Vegas. We just have one problem with this game. A year ago we had lost two saves when we were near to the end of BG2 and we knew Ill never get those hours back. We put off from playing awhile and waited for a year. We started to replay the saga and its great to experience it all over again. The problem you see is that we finally got to Spellhold and we got the hand of Dace. We went over to the kobolds surrounding the crystal and killed them all with a Skull Trap. By the time we got to the crystal, two goblins appeared but nothing happened. From what we remembered, there were supposed to be more spawn of enemies and we believe one of them carried the crystal we needed to progress through the story. And now Im stuck at Spellhold. Im grateful you guys were able to port the classic games to IOS and we appreciate everything you have done. What can we do to fix this bug Beamdog? We lost our saves from a year ago and ai REALLY dont want the same thing to happen again. Seriously, we cannot thank you guys enough.

This Game is about understanding the difference between Good and Bad; between Reality and Imagination. 5 Stars for Porting it through Space and Time on to iPad. Now if only it would download faster then we could rate it honestly 7/5.

Easily the best rpg of all time, especially when played as one giant epic starting with original game, then importing character to BG2 and then through throne of Bhaal. We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve played these games, theyre true masterpieces, a perfect mix of story, action and strategy.

This is the best, most full-fledged game with zero compromises we’ve ever played on the iPad. We actually ended up preferring interacting by touch vs mouse clicks when we played this game years ago. Im about 20 hours in and have had zero issues, and the battery life while playing this game is phenomenal – we think its less intensive than youtube. We look forward to this companys future projects :)

Game is great, but our IPad has no sound in the game. We tried YouTube and the sound works just fine. Sad to give a bad review to a great game, but with no sound half the experience . Please fix and we will gladly give 5 stars.

If you had told us 8 years ago when we first played through the EE editions of this game on PC that Id enjoy them more on an iPad we would have called you crazy and laughed. We are surprised how much more we enjoy these on the iPad compared with our PC. As text heavy games doing the reading on the iPad is very comfortable. We also felt more connected to our party and NPCs compared to using a traditional mouse and keyboard. We’ve played the entirety of the main game Shadows of Amn and havent quite finished Throne of Bhaal on the iPad, yet. The long press can be annoying at times but usually works. Sometimes in combat it can be difficult to know for sure if you have the intended enemy selected, you have to learn to tap the feet of anyone you want to talk with or attack. These are minor gripes and in no way inhibiting from the enjoyment of playing this classic on iPad. We had one bug we dont remember on PC, for the Skinner Murders in the Bridge District, we tried speaking with the tanner before we took the evidence to the chief guard. Afterwards we went to the chief guard and gave him the evidence and he ran off, however when we go back to the tanner shop the tanner is there and we are unable to initiate conversation or do anything else. We can attack but he is unkillable and never turns red. Only bug and broken quest we experienced and not in any way breaking. And we did a lot of the companion side quests etc. If youre new to these types of games we would recommend starting with the Baldurs Gate EE and also finding a guide online to help build your character.

Our favorite game of all time. So glad to run through it again. We noticed what we think might be a bug. In ToB we are running a mage/thief. We have boots of haste which make us run fast. We just finished the flail of the ages and when we equip it our character slows down; as though Im no longer wearing the boots. When we unequip the flail of ages we are back to normal speed. This doesnt happen with any other weapon. Thank you for a great game, hope this can be fixed!

We really cant believe they made it for the iPhone!! We’ve been playing this on our computer. Now we can play it at work too!

Hundreds of hours of contents and just $10 dollars, great voice acting, and great story. The D&D rules are a bit complicated thou.

One of the best games ever made with a flawless port. This is a must buy- the developer has done a sensational job. Thank you for this.

Superb game, our only complaint is lack of iPhone X support. The sooner you add it, the closer you are to perfection.

Fantastic transition to mobile devices, the game is just like we remember from pc. It would be great if the developers could add support to the new devices, specifically the new iPad pros.

This is a classic RPG, one of the best of the old school (though, like all Black Isle RPGs, can be unfairly hard or unbalanced at times). Still, great interface, good story and a classic. Updating our review to remove the complaints about the multiplayer experience – its MUCH more stable now, disconnects are very rare and usually involve one of the players task switching or using the control panel for more than a moment. Still leaving off 1 star for some minor UI annoyances and some leftover frustrating elements of the original game design (enemies that require extremely specific counters, for example), not something Beamdog would be expected to fix. Overall, a fantastic updated version of a classic game, highly recommended!

Please update this wonderful game to fit our phone screen.

We had the pre-update version, had played it for an hour or two, found it crashy and not intuitive but entertaining, intended to get back to it. When the update came out in the last few weeks, it was so huge that it wouldn’t download (more than 3gb is enormous for an iPad app; most apps update that amount of material from within the app itself, using it as a shell for new data). We deleted the previous version in the hope that our problem was that there was only about a gb of space left on our tablet (my bad, but there was nothing else we were willing/able to temporarily delete), but we were still unable to download and install the new version. ITunes no longer allows side-loading a PC download of an app to ameliorate this issue, so we seem to be out of luck for now. Update: we appreciate the offer of investigation/assistance, but we fixed the issue myself and updated our review! It required a hard erase-and-reset of our iPad, which isn’t that bad with an iCloud backup. We did it for other reasons than to get this particular app working, but it does seem to have solved the problem and allowed us to download the updated version. The information might help anyone else who’s having a similar problem.

HP lost if importing a dual class character (import fighter/mage and hp is recalculated using only mage levels). Its been complained about since forever.. Please fix or provide a quick and dirty editor so we can correct the issue.. Otherwise love the game, have since its original PC release.

We have been playing for years. We have played the PC version and have recently started to mobile app version. We are having trouble playing Multiple player with our son because we can not connect to the same server. Help!!! How can we set it up so that he and we can adventure together?

Played it back in the day. Was excited about this version. Bugs very soon into the game, will put it aside until they are fixed.

Keeps getting stuck in the inventory screen whenever we exit out. Same in Icewind dale.

Perhaps we are missing something, but we are really excited to play this game however cant. Started plying but then item windows will not close! We’ve tried clicking everywhere and nothing will close the item windows. Someone tell us what we are missing here?

Ok, this game is out on a few consoles, and has controller support. The iOS version here does not have controller support. Please add controller support.

Cant finish game because bugged at very end challenge. Please fix bugs and make this a great game.

Cant initiate contact with any NPCs. . . Real drag since story is 3/5ths of why we like this game. Cant change party members cant talk to the butler to combine items. . . Unless convo is initiated automatically your quest is broken. . . If you can even initiate it.

Love the gameplay but cant export/import saved games to Dragonspear or BG2ee. Stinks having great characters but cant play on. Using iPad so trying other ways to do file transfer but shouldnt have to.

You think since its in the iPhone they would have made the ui phone friendly but alas. We cant see anything its so small and we cant even hit half of the menu icons.

We couldnt make it through character creatation. As much as we love having these games on here this one cannot be played. Its a small square on the phone. Civilization 6 does a better job. We gave one extra start bc we love the effort to bring it to mobile but its not there yet.

The game doesnt use the full screen on an iPhone 12. We guess this is no longer supported? Couldnt play or read the text.

Great games. Fantastic to see this in a port for iPad. However there are so many bugs still. We are completely frustrated with our game freezing up all the time or the Settings not working correctly targeting messed up etc. Etc. If it was free we would not complain but we paid money for this. It should be finished. IPad 8th Gen.

Everything is way too small. To read the text is a real pain. Scale function doesnt help at all.

Our character freezes in the game since the start…. Can’t move and sometimes click is not accurate !

Like every other game in this collection the developers have long abandoned it. They will never update the games to work on small screens and have only updated the description that maybe you should only buy the iPad version (but will still sell you the iPhone version). It shouldve never been sold for phones. The only response you will get is thanks for the feedback or theyll direct you to their forums which are none existent now.

We’ve been having a great time playing this game, but unfortunately it is extremely buggy. We’ve gotten to a point, not far in the game, where we cant progress any further because the game crashes whenever we enter two distinct areas which are required to progress and we cannot access a third area. Very frustrating!
