Welcome to a grim dystopian future.
A totalitarian State controls every aspect of private and public life. Laws are oppressive. Surveillance is total. Privacy is dead. You are the State-installed manager of an apartment building. Your daily routine involves making the building a sweet spot for tenants, who will come and go.
However, that is simply a facade that hides your real mission.
The State has appointed you to SPY ON YOUR TENANTS! Your primary task is to covertly watch your tenants and eavesdrop on their conversations. You must BUG their apartments while they’re away, SEARCH their belongings for whatever can threaten the authority of the State, and PROFILE them for your superiors. You must also REPORT anyone capable of violating the laws or plotting subversive activities against the State to the authorities.

Wow, this game has been a heck of a ride! So many different pathways to take, some better than others. Some even deadly! Its the perfect mix of dystopian and surreal. Its got a great storyline and lots of cool features. The art is very cool, too! It might take a few goes to learn all of the different things you can do as the main character, Carl. You might kill him a few times, but you can always load your last checkpoint and try something less deadly next time. All in all, its a fantastic game! Well worth the money. The only issue we had is with the English grammar/pronunciation on a few of the words, but its not even worth docking a star because its so few and far between that it doesnt impact the game at all.
We rarely take the time to write reviews for these things. But this game is amazing at what it does. We tried to be moral first time. We died pretty early on. Some other things: a librarian shot us, we killed our wife by giving her money, we got in huge trouble for not killing someone, we got in trouble for not reporting someone and got fined for reporting them BY THE SAME AGENCY. You cant win. We have never felt so tortured over decisions in a phone game. In our play through right now Im pretty sure Im screwed. Im addicted.

This game is not fun in lighthearted, Super Mario World way. Its much more serious than that. It can feel a bit more like work or real life because the game is about problem solving. You are in a totalitarian, oppressive, poverty-stricken nation where the government monitors your every move and keeps you under its thumb. You find yourself constantly put in compromising situations that force you into a stance of self preservation. The government requires you to spy on others and report them to the government which rewards you for such loyalty. You also find yourself being pressured by rebel terrorist organizations who offer rewards or threats, as well as your own family, and the general need to earn the trust and cooperation of those around you. So how many balls, or should we say live grenades, can you successfully juggle at once? This game will find out!
Bought this game due to developers still updating and improving it 2 years after release, also bought because there are no annoying in app purchases or pay to win schemes. Thanks developers !!!
We liked the game and completed it a couple of times. Some of the hidden mechanics are great, yet we would like to see Ukrainian language inside.
Cant get pass the intro of the game, soon as we earn our first cash and rep points and talk to our boss, game wont make it passed that conversation. First refund Im ever doing for App Store :/
This game is extremely boring and you dont have any choices Its either finish the mission or start completely over.
Jacob Manishek showed up the first time we played with the tutorial, we restarted the game without the tutorial and he will not show up. We’ve done everything the ministry told us to, and talked to everyone and even called the ministry again, but no luck. The timer runs out and he never shows up. A lot of other people experienced this online. Bummer, otherwise it would be a great game.
Same experience as another reviewer: start the game, complete first mission, at the end of the conversation between your boss and you the game freezes and is unplayable. Hopefully this catches the developers attentions and fixes it!!!
This game is absolutely incredible. The setting is a totalitarian government who pretends to benefit the people. The gameplay is great and works phenomenally with the touch screen. Theres no awkward fake joystick fiddling, mostly tapping. Dont let that fool you, this game is one of the deepest experiences you could have on IOS, second only to our Child Lebensborn. The style and character interactions are dripping with atmosphere, the dystopia effects all of them. It also has the Papers Please quality of constant moral choice with it being really hard to make the right choice. You are a landlord working directly for the government. You have a number of lives in your hands, including your familys. You need money, and its pretty hard to get and hold on to. Its not impossible to always make the right choice, but its difficult. You often have to choose between supporting your family or making the world a better place. Sometime though, the choice kicks you in the stomach and you essentially wasted your money. Its impossible to tell when this happens, and it really adds to the feeling that youre living in a cruel world where your voice is lost. Despite that, its still a tremendously engaging experience, and we found myself attached to some of these characters which are essentially black splotches. Get this game.
Please give the ability to delete saves manually. We love the game so much its worth every penny, but please add a little X or something to the right of the save files in the load menu so we can clear up the space its driving us crazy.
We saw this game thinking it would be some sort of dumb thing. But really when you get in the game it really feels like you are the main character. This is by far one of our favorite games.
It let us reminded the book named 1984 and Im so upset because Im a traitor to the democratic system.
Absolutely love this game. We played over and over again. We hope beholder 2 will be in the store soon.
There needs to be some sort of way to delete old save files that are no longer wanted.

So far we really like this game. Sry engaging and exciting. Well worth the price Id say. On thing we have an issue with is saving the game to iCloud. It just spins and spins and spins. Does nothing. Am we the only one?
We Love this game, but its to predictable. You keep playing the game, and you know whats going to happen. You should add a endless mode where its randomized and you dont know whats going to happen next.
We love this game because it rewards the devious and duplicitous. Maybe we love it because it involves choices that are not so straightforward or without consequence. Whatever the reason, this game is really wonderful and worth every penny. The only reason we gave 4 stars is because some of the storylines do not have the same range of choice as others, and it makes some of the game feel locked in instead of decision determined. Personally we killed the general without the bomb almost every time and would really have liked the ability to use the bomb on the chemist. (Like a little reward for being clever and having a spare bomb on hand.)
When you start a new game, the first task does not reset, and you can never complete it.

Wow this game is just amazing.
We love the game, it super fun and every choice you make has an outcome. Our first game we got shot by a sailor:). It’s very interactive and what you do make a difference. The only changes we would make is if you steal something then there is a siren for 10 seconds then the police come. Otherwise it’s kind of ridiculous how much you arrested. Also the blissful sleep mode has an error. It says it costs .99 but when you buy it it charges you 1.99. We don’t know if this is a mistake or if this is happening on purpose,but please fix the mistake. Thanks.
We love the concept of the game. They are sooooo many things to explore and discover. Defiant worth the money! We cant wait for the next DLC to come up and we promise not to look up solutions to achievements. Keep it up developers…. We mean Ministry.
Game is a too buggy and the gameplay is a bit strange. The graphics are great. The story line is okay, it gets a bit odd and muddled.
Do not get it. Can’t avoid murder by govt thugs, even if we hit every goal. And we’re talking first round stuff here. We don’t know if we feel dopier for not understanding or for spending so long trying to. Or (option 3!) for spending so much time staring at animated people just standing there. We’re desperate for a fun, story-based game to escape into. Help us make this one fun! What am we missing?
We looooooove this game but there are some improvements we suggest first pls add more ministry missions and realse beholder 2 to mobile if you do we will gladly change our review to 4 for one change and if both 5 if you read this thank you and :)
There are too many great things to say about this game, so Ill keep it short and sweet. We didnt want this game to end! Its so complex that we were able to play it multiple times and experience so many different storylines. Its engaging in a way that we didnt know our brain even wanted – and now all other games pale in comparison. We hope there are more like this to come!!
BLEW MY MIND. Overall amazing game.
As we find with many iPhone, iPad games, this was fun for a while but once we got through the story two-three times, we started just kind of getting sick of running through the same old same old predicaments. We wish it had a little bit more randomness to it. Or even a levels scheme, where if you survive through one section of the story you can keep running the apartment with randomized tenants or move on to a new apartment complex or something.
Game looks like a lot of fun but it keeps freezing at the same spot after hanging second camera, completely locks our IPhone 6.
Game is fun, but when saving to iCloud, it spins endlessly and never stops.
Please update so the display fits the IPhone X.
Great at first but even on easy it is too hard. We dont mind hard after we get into the game, but not right out the gate.
Awesome game. Its really fun at first but youre just doing the same stuff and not a lot of government jobs after your first few. Add more to it please.

We love this game because it is so challenging and it has multiple outcomes. You really have to pay attention to what people in the game say and do. We are not afraid of starting from scratch to see different outcomes. Thank you for making this game because everyone who worked on this game did an awesome job.
Plz fix language glitch. After we close the app and reopen it. Its in a different language.
When we downloaded the app, the text was in English. However, when we close the app after playing and then reopen it, the text is in a different language. We uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and the same thing happened.
We don’t have a lot of free time on our hands, but when we do we try to play Beholder. It’s a great game with quirky, dark humor. We won’t go into detail but if you’re the kind to invest in a game’s characters and story, this could be for you. We only have minor criticisms. Firstly, we think if you tap on a person, Carl should automatically move to them and initiate conversation, rather than having to tap on a spot near the person, then tapping them to start conversation. It’s kind of annoying when we want to speak to someone and Carl just stands there and doesn’t walk over to them. It’s just a fluidity thing. Secondly, we should be able to zoom the camera in further. At the closest zoom level it’s still a little too far out. Besides that, we love Beholder. We hope there’s a sequel of some sort where we can travel to other locations and have a relatively open world!
When will the DLC "blissful sleep" be out for Mobil.
Played it on pc, and was thinking it would be so nice to play it on touch screen, and there it is! We find it much more easier to play this way than clicking the mouse like crazy. Also, we think the simplified filing/blackmailing/reporting system is a BIG improvement. The time pauses when you are looking through things, which is nice too. The only suggestion we would make is the save/load system, we wish we could be able to control the timing somehow, e.g. It’s a pain if we just forgot to pick up the box left by the tenant before repair but had to start from before taking the quest! Looking forward to more!
Even on easy mode, it’s too hard. No payout, you spend a bunch of time and one event ends the game with no pay off.
We’ve played this for 3-4 hour and still don’t know what’s going on. It keeps telling us to do things it hasn’t explained how to do and we keep getting shot. Could be a good game if it wasn’t just one big mess. No save option, you get randomly started at some random save point that happens at random times and you will not know when that is. Can’t get anyone evicted with evidence, click and click and click and nothing happens. It sends the evidence to the stuff about the people instead of evidence. Game is broken, seen a guy in YouTube do it with the pc version, can’t get it to work on here. Also, the game just doesn’t play well on a small screen a phone. We believe we will be asking for money back.
