User Reviews on Cadenza: The Eternal Dance

Looking for more information? Read a comprehensive review of Cadenza: The Eternal Dance below:

We love this game. Hidden objects are excellent. Puzzles are hard to do.

Good story engaging good puzzles not too demonic.

Buy. A lot of time and talent went into producing this game. Lots of new puzzles that are a challenge. Im enjoying and hope you do too. Key West Jessa.

Edited after first review. We went into the Extras section to locate the Bonus game. That is why we ended up playing the Match 3 game forever. You need to go back to the main menu screen to select the Bonus game! Collectible dancing couples, morphing objects within the HOPs, beautiful graphics. At the conclusion of the Bonus game, you can backtrack to locate missed collectibles and replay the HOPs. There is also a treasure hunt game. Finally, no elves, fairies with annoying voices, etc. Nothing innovated, but we really enjoyed playing this game!

We took one star away for 2 reasons. One being the interactive map. It was functional but not aesthetically appealing. It could have been much nicer. The other being lack of achievements and collectibles. One thing we really liked about this game, setting it apart from similar ones was the use of the back button. Making this the only means to return to the previous screen enabled the bottom part of the screen to be playable, and it was used just for that. We would say this added about 20% to the playable area. Another thing we really liked was the mini games. They were unique, but not too difficult. Other aspects of the game are comparable to what players have come to expect from Big Fish hidden object games.

We actually liked this game. Mainly for the innovative puzzles and hos. Many of the likes, in both categories, we have never seen before. We didnt feel it was any shorter than any other game nowadays, but we dont skip puzzles so that may be why. Storyline was okay, but made no sense as to why if one person signed the contract, why did the sister get taken? No real depth to the story or characters, but there never is any more. Morphing objects in the hos, and collectible dancing figures in each scene. If you like creative puzzles and hos, give it a try!

All the Cadenza games are good: clever, artistic, and they try to make good use of music a person can actually listen to and enjoy. This is not the best Cadenza, but it’s a long shot better than most others of the HOP ilk. Mini games are fun. If the text were large enough to be readable, we would have given this game a 5th star.

We’ve been on a hidden object kick for a few weeks now and so far of the 10 or so we’ve played this is our favorite. The clues make sense, mostly. They actually have HOP’s in this game! It seems that so many of the ones we’ve been playing have just tossed them in so they can call themselves HOG’s…… They’re only fooling themselves and those of us stupid enough to have believed them! Why not 5 stars? Yeah, well here’s the thing. There are times that it’s incredibly hard to place an object on the thing it’s supposed to interact with!!! That’s more frustrating than trying to baptize a cat! Otherwise we’re enjoying this a whole lot.

Are too straight forward and easy.

We feel as though there has been a downward spiral in innovational exploration, as developers seem to be running out of novel ideas to inject within their storylines as well as pioneering twists on gameplay within their HOSs and puzzles. Unfortunately, Madhead has caught the bug. The plot succumbs to the worn-out trope of rescuing your damsel in distress from an evil masked man; and, surprise, surprise, you have to rescue her. The characters do little to add substance to the storyline; they are nondescript and forgettable, and we’re having a hard time connecting to them. The gameplay in this sequel is mediocre by Madhead’s standards. The adventure portion of gameplay is static and slow to evolve, unlike the dynamic and highly engaging activity presented by its predecessors. Although the HOSs are interactive and multi-layered, they comprise many word lists, lacking diversity and pioneering elements. The puzzles, although creatively rendered, are offensively easy in that their solutions are attained in a few steps. The only noticeable and refreshing change is that you discover dance-themed collectibles throughout the scenes in place of the usual hallmarked symbol. We came across a few programming quirks. Firstly, we loathe having to individually drag over items in a set; this method is unnecessary and time-consuming. Secondly, we’ve noticed a reoccurring glitch in the audio dialogue within the last few games of this developer. At the end of each spoken sentence, we hear the first syllable of the first word of the next sentence. It creates confusion as to whether or not intended dialogue is erroneously cut out. Thirdly, the usual touch sensitivities burdened our progression, as it was sometimes cumbersome to collect or place items. The free trial is short and abrupt, but with the dearth of games being released, we purchased the game. We really think this series took a wrong turn considering what this sequel had to offer. The bland storyline is tarnished by the supernatural dark side, whereas the first few games in this series were more realistically portrayed, taking place in musical clubswhich made them stand out. Furthermore, we miss the catchy musical soundtracks that made this series so distinct and special; the music in this sequel is unremarkable. This game reminded us of the "Danse Macabre" series, not "Cadenza." Finally, the game, including the bonus chapter, is shockingly short, obviously attributable towards the simplicity of the gameplay, coupled with a shortage of tasks to effect within each scene. We are unimpressed with this latest release; and, unfortunately, we have to wait another week for a new game. Disappointingly, we rate this game three (3) stars. Note to Catalina: we did not have trouble downloading this game. Did you try deleting and reinstalling? We’re sorry you experienced technical difficulties and hope the problem gets sorted out.

When we saw that a Mad Head game was released, and in a series we generally enjoy, we were excited to play. Unfortunately this game has extremely underwhelmed us. The graphics lacked visual acuity, the storyline was unoriginal and there was a total lack of innovative features from this developer who usually gives us interesting and quirky gameplay, the ability to examine objects from multiple perspectives, and unusual HO scenes. There were also touch screen sensitivity issues, making us second guess our usage of inventory. Several times we were applying the correct inventory tool, and the screen said to try something else, or some such comment. Of course after trying 3 or 4 times we were able to do it. We were offered the usual perks from Mad Head: customizable settings, a marked teleport map, complex items and collectibles (this time they were dancing couple symbols). Morphing objects were confined to the HO scenes, which were dull and mainly comprised of word lists or silhouettes, nothing being overly creative or innovative. The puzzles/games were either very simplistic, of the boring rotational genre, or required dexterity, which was difficult with touch screen sensitivity issues at play, no pun intended. There were a couple of puzzles which involved having to work out the solution using your brain versus trial and error, and those we did enjoy. The basic gameplay was somewhat entertaining but there was nothing that we felt wowed us. There was a gimmick in the form of a cryptex but we wont go into detail lest we spoil it for other gamers. This game was extremely brief inclusive of the bonus adventure. We bought the game because we were bored and BigFish is only releasing one game in this genre per week. Our rating will remain at 3 stars, which is representative of a very average game. Seriously, when are things going to improve? When will BigFish start releasing 2 games per week again? When will we get another game distributed by Artifex Mundi or developed by Five BN Uk? If anyone has any answers we are all ears! Happy gaming to all! UPDATE: Artifex Mundi is due to release a new game on October 18th, and it is a paranormal adventure. It should be a somewhat decent length at 1.6 gigs, but sometimes we find that actual gameplay seems much shorter, so that can be misleading. Anyway, the game is called Dreamwalker and it is available for pre-order. The only advantage that gives you is a slightly better price. Also if you forget that the game has been released, it will automatically download to your device. Now if we could get something new from Five BN, that would be terrific!

Gave this game 3 stars because so short. The game play is fun though. Pleased to read you can go back and find missed collectibles. Maybe game will be ok length once those are found and hidden places are revealed. Only half way thru at the moment.

Like so many games recently, this one was extremely short. It had good graphics and voice acting, and the overall game was okay, but come on!

We generally like this series, and we are enjoying this one. A few annoying things – there is no navigation on the screen – you need to use the back button. Takes two clicks to get to a new scene, and the overall game reacts a bit slow. Also – the text on the top is TINY! We do appreciate the extra collectibles – and that they are clearly noted as found or not.

12/28/18 ADVENTURE GAMING COMPENDIUM: Gamers may want to try the following game developers & publishers in light of Big Fish selling out for casino money. Artifex Mundi: started with Big Fish and now publishes its own HOAGs as well as HOAGs from game developers Brave Giant, Cordelia, House of Fables, Moonlight Interactive, Sunward Games, One More Level, So Digital, Two Desperadoes, and World-Loom Games. G5 Entertainment: similar to Big Fish. Publishes HOAGs from Artifex Mundi, Fenimen and Shaman Games, among others. Haiku Games: excellent free point and click adventure games, which include tons of minigames but not necessarily hidden object puzzles. Rumpus Animation: they publish the Bertram Fiddle series, which is very witty. Discover and use items as part of gameplay. Five-BN UK: terrific series such as Darkness and Flame, Lost Lands, The Legacy and our favorite, New York Mysteries. Absolutist: publishes its own HOAGs as well as HOAGs and adventure games from AZ-Art Studios, Lazy Turtle and Shaman Games, among others. We recommend the amusing Witchs Pranks: Frogs Fortune, although it is a little short. Pendulo Studios: known for the Journey Down, Runaway, Hollywood Monster and Yesterday adventure game series. Not aware of any HOAGs. Beware that one of the Runaway Games has a game-ending glitch (everyone comments on it so you will know before you purchase). Alawar: like Artifex Mundi, Alawar started with Big Fish then branched out on its own. Publishes its own HOAGs as well as adventure games from Tikis Lab and Wellore. We recommend the Dark Angels, House of 1000 Doors, Lake House, Paranormal Pursuit, Stray Souls and Weird Park HOAG series (note that Big Fish has some bf not all of the related games). Animation Arts Creative GmbH: develops the Lost Horizon and Secret Files adventure game series. Application Systems Heidelberg Software: developed the lengthy adventure game Nelly Cootalot and The Fowl Fleet. Microids: develops and publishes HOAGs and adventure games, including the Syberia adventure game series, Red Johnsons Chronicles adventure game series (may not be publicly available any longer), and one of our favorite, Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders. (This isnt a HOAG, its the quintessential detective game.) Microids also publishes HOAGs and adventure games for Anuman Interactive and Pendulo Studios, among others. If you love quirky hidden gems, try the Tova point and click series as well as Freda and the sequel, all developed by Biscuit Placebo and published by Jens Staaf; and Kelvin and the Infamous Machine, written and published by Blyts. ORIGINAL GAME REVIEW: our first criticism is, unfortunately, one that applies throughout the game. The text is SO small that we can’t read some of the instructions, and we have 20/20 vision. The same is true for some of the details in the scenery. It seems like they failed to account for size when they converted the PC game to one for the iPhone and iPad. Overall this "new" game feels like we’ve played it before. The plot, minigames, settings, even the sound effects, have been recycled to the point that you know when the dog is going to bark. The controls are also a disappointment. The game is particular about where you place the cursor, especially in HOPs. The "you are here" icon on the map hovers north of where you actually are. The map doesn’t indicate when there are collectibles to find. Difficulty can be customized, but only so far (e.g., you can’t opt for more challenging puzzles, and the ones you get are pretty easy). IMHO, The Eternal Dance is the weakest in the otherwise solid Cadenza series. (Try "Fame, Theft & Murder" to see what we mean.) we bought this at the sale price and I’d probably do so again, but we definitely wouldn’t pay $6.99.

Mostly a good game, but so far all the mini games seem way too easy.

So much about this game is lovely, and initially we began a rave review, but then the game ended–very quickly. The music is marvelous, the graphics spectacular, the puzzles engaging without being repetitive. So much of this game was original, and we WANTED this game to continue, to fulfill its promise, but it fell far short. If you are seeking a bang for your buck, this is not a deal. We stopped writing reviews for a couple of weeks (please keep giving as much as you can to Florence survivors–my county was lucky but the devastation continues). We were weary of the repetitive "dated," "give us more," "loyal fans" chorus that BF seems to be ignoring. This game has everything except the all-important hours of play. We have had a bag of chips last longer. Please BF and developers, we remember games that could take us days to complete, and these days, many of us need distractions and are willing to pay for them. This "eternal" dance is simply cash slipping from our fingers. You gave us some great games for a few weeks, and lovely as this one is, it is too short, especially since you have cut us to one game a week. We won’t repeat what most folks have been saying for weeks.

All of the great music, compelling storylines, and diverse characters that we loved about Cadenza are gone! This is just like any other game now focused in the supernatural, bland voice acting, and boring music. Im so disappointed!

The print is so tiny you cant even see it. You basically have no direction on what to do or whats needed because you cant read anything.

While we love the other entries in the Cadenza series, this is the worst. The audio is glitchy, the plot is terrible, the story ends abruptly and the whole experience is a disappointment. It is all too obvious the programmers gave up towards the end. Save your money.

We can hardly read the font! Too annoying to try. Do better, BF!

Dont purchase unless you were looking for the Eternal Squint version. The writing is so small you need a magnifier to see the dialogue. We must say Im playing on an iPad. The style of writing makes it worse and the print size must be set on 2. If you dont have bad eyes you will. Had our glasses too. Yikes!

Looks like a fun game but we could not read any of the writing. We play on our games on our phone and usually dont have any problem, but in this game the writing was so small we simply couldnt read it. Had to delete, too bad.

Only 4 chapters in this game, Plus a bonus game but the majority of these games on here lately have been five and six chapters long it doesnt seem like theyve done anything to update these cadenza games they seem like theyre all the same.

The type in every banner or dialogue box or label is so incredibly small we cant read it on our phone! We always enjoy Cadenza games, but we wont be buying this one. We hope they can do something about this issue, we suppose Ill wait for it to go on sale at a later date.

We love all the other cadenza, but this one is almost impossible to read. Not going to unlock it until they update it.

Toward the end a giant metronome shows up in the sky and it flashes the screen white at every stroke. It’s so annoying it’s almost punitive. It made the game unplayable for us.

The writing/captions are so small and flashes on the the screen so fast it cannot be read, or comprehended! Sorry we wont be purchasing this game at all if we dont even know whats going on! Sad too Im sure its a great game? PLEASE MAKE THE PRINT SO IT CAN BE READ!!!

Our rating is for Big Fish, not this game. It has been 13 years since BF released Huntsville, the first HOG. It was a pioneering game, leading the way to the HOGs of today. Now that BF is no longer supporting these games for the iPad, we dont know if we want to support BF. Is it only a matter of time before all of their games, even for the PC, are pay-to-play? We know that sometimes HOGs get monotonous with tired storylines and worn out puzzles. But how much fun is it to pay real money to bet with fake money in a casino? To get amazing jackpots worth trillions of dollars in play money? Or to pay for those power-ups that are necessary to beat otherwise impossible levels in many of the other BF games? The new powers that be at BF may think that they are moving forward, but their greed is leaving many of us behind. We will not pay for their shortsightedness. And bedtime, which we used to look forward to as a time to escape and de-stress, is now just time to go to sleep. Goodnight, Big Fish.
