Our son and we have have been playing consistently for over a year. He is 21 and has long since left the nest. We dont always have a lot to say but a move on the board has become our yo, thinking of you. It goes something like this… Dad: Your move. Son: Ok, can we borrow some money? Dad: Let us take your queen first :) Son: Funny Dad. Just like $20. Dad: No, really. It would be nice be nice to support iPhone X. The board doesnt fit exactly right. It works but is a wee bit wonky. UPDATE: Thanks for the iPhone X support and we love seeing the last move in the conversation. 5th star.

Really enjoying this app with friends! Make more colors available ! Also , for the developer , Im having some type of glitch while playing, it keeps showing a piece even though it got removed from the board, any ideas whats going on?

This is one of the most perfect games available on the App Store. Great price, plays better than the board game, and top notch graphics. Its both easy to use and helpful to bring activity and thoughtfulness to those moments when you have nothing to say. Definitely a must own for anyone looking to bring the original game of thrones into their day to day life.

We got this when it was free app of the week, but we definitely would have payed a dollar for it. We’ve had no problems with it for as long as we’ve had it, not really sure why there are bad reviews.

Our friend updated his app and everything works again. Would be cool to have an optional clock.

Its so easy to use and so convenient!

This is a fantastic app. We appreciate the simplicity. Please add: – a way to resign a game – dashboard for managing multiple games at once – a score tracker with an opponent to show who has won more games. All in all it works and is so easy in iMessage. Appreciate you people who built it!

This App has helped us stay in touch with family overseas and we like the very simple no frills design. However there is a bug or design omission. It does not let you choose which piece to upgrade to when a pawn reaches the 8th rank. It defaults to a queen which is not always appropriate. This caused us to lose a game today. Also following the recent update you no longer have the option to change your mind before hitting send. This was a previous useful option especially if your finger hit the wrong piece or square making a bad unintended move. Finally the upgrade also broke the enlarged version of the board you get when you first click on an opponents iMessage. It opens up a blank screen which you have to remove before selecting resume game to see their move. Please address these 3 issues especially the first. Otherwise good work! Roger B.

A well designed app, no issues except that it could use a confirm your Move feature!

The app does a great job of doing exactly what it needs to and nothing more. Lots of apps try to be too fancy, have too many burdensome features that clutter the UI, or find some other way to stray from the main goal. This allows you to play a nice game of correspondence-style chess with a move history and a clean representation of the current board. Well worth it. The only reason we’re not rating 5 stars is because in our experience it doesn’t handle multiple devices very well. If you start a game on your phone and move to your iPad, for example, iMessage has brought the game and the move history over with the rest of your messages but trying to make a move will give you a prompt to start a new game. Maybe this is just a bug and its supposed to sync. I’d even be okay if they clearly handled the circumstance and just informed you that you have to continue on the original device. Of course, getting state sync to other devices would be even better! Also others have mentioned that being able to preview the move before auto-sending would improve the experience we agree.

App is very simplistic which is great. We do notice iMessage crashing, lagging, or the chess board disappearing in chat sometimes but doesnt effect the actually gameplay.

There is a bug that will move your pawn 3 spaces for some reason, its happening often on opening moves. When this works its great, when it doesnt you are playing against your opponent and the big, lol!

We loved the app until suddenly while playing the app would start making moves for both sides without human interaction by us or our son. Apparent the App was hacked either by a person or autoplay computer app and would continue to make moves and remove pieces on its own. We uninstalled and reinstalled with the same result. We would make a few initial moves, then the app would start making its own moves. We checked both phones with security software and could find no breaches. The only recourse was to remove the app permanently rather than allow 3rd party control. Too bad, it was a good way to interact with our son from a distance. We can only conclude a malicious actor exploited some feature that allowed access.

It would be nice if you could take back a accidental move. Also there seems to be a glitch with the rooks suddenly disappearing from the corners. Other than that we love it. Oh, and a Halloween themed board would be groovy!

Its a good chess iMessage app but the latest update removed the confirmation screen before sending a move. Really makes it easy to accidentally tap the screen and boom the move is gone. At least give us the option, this isnt speed test. Also iPad landscape is broken.

So far it was good but we had one time where the queen actually switched to a rook for no apparent reason. Queen was sitting in the top right corner. We were trying to get ahold of developer but cant find their contact info. Please help.

We initially downloaded this app and really enjoyed it. Very simple and easy to use, as well as having a wonderful looking interface….. But we recently updated the app and was very disappointed to see that we can no longer preview our move because it automatically sends it to our opponent.(it could just be us, but it seems as though it doesnt run as smoothly with the new auto-send system) If the method of sending your move could go back to the way it previously was, we would say a perfect 5 stars again.

Great chess on iPhone, but doesnt open on iPad.

This app has been buggy for us. With two people Im trying to play with, we make a move, but it doesnt send. Its very frustrating. Only able to play with one person right now (and it was buggy in the beginning too, but somehow was able to start a game). We like the concept, but the programming just isnt working right.

We have an iPhone 7, up to date, tried everything, restarted phone, restarted games ect, and the board stays upside. The first move it plays from our POV and then the rest of the game the board is upside down. It was only a dollar, but free chess apps actually work so this was annoying af. Good idea, but not enjoying this game.

Nice interface, convenient play, but it got pretty buggy after about the fourth game. Our friend couldnt move his pieces, or he could only move ours. Then there was the time his rook reappeared in its original location after we had captured it.

This game could be a game changer! Unfortunately, it only works on an iPad if you hold it vertically and not in landscape mode. Still needs improvement. Not sure if it is worth a dollar.

Tap on the thumbnail and nothing happens.

Not bad but how can we delete it?

We bought this about a week ago. Played about 2 games with our kids. And then it just stopped working. We can start a new game but the other person cant make a move.

To us, a confirm move feature is essential when your customers are using touchscreens.

Started wonderful, then stopped working. Needs update. Cant send moves to other players.

This is a lot of fun to play chess with our friends but have a ton of issues with it. We can never start a game, the game lets us move but then doesnt register it. Frequently it wont register moves mid game unless we close and reopen messenger many times.

And its too easy to accidentally make a move. You should have to confirm a move!! So annoying. No score counter either.

Cannot uninstall-doesnt respond to support request.

Update – 2020 When the app works, it’s loads of fun and very easy to use. But it’s still partially broken and hasn’t been updated in 2 years by Borderleap so our review stays at 1 star. We’re on the new SE and still have similar issues to what we had back with our 6s. We can rarely start a game. Once a game starts, it usually goes okay. But there’s still bugs with sending moves or the bird freezing. Original review: This text app used to be adequate. Sure, there were rouge bugs that would make a rook appear sometimes. But over all it worked well. With the newest update for our 6s on ios 11.2.6, it’s almost completely unusable. Our buddy sent a move this morning and when we made ours, it didn’t send. It just sat there. And we were able to move his pieces! Come on guys. Didn’t you test this before launch?

This game used to be fantastic. Ever since the most recent update, you have no way to confirm your move. Tapping a square on the board no longer puts together the move in a message and allows you to send (or X out of it and cancel). Now it just sends the move automatically. Terrible.

We used to play this game on our iphone7… Just for an iPhone X… Doesnt work anymore.

We can send a first move but we cant reply with a second move.

No icon show on your home page so you cannot uninstall it.

If two people start a game each as white, the whole things crashes and becomes unusable with no way to reset it. Just add a reset button and it would be fine. 1 star until its added/fixed.

How do you uninstall this crap app????

This is a thing you send in text messages just hit the button with four squares and you will see it.

We know its an iMessage app but we cant find it on our keyboard help please.

This iMessage app game is fun and probably easy to use, there is just one problem that we have with it. We don’t know how to continue a game that we have started. Yes we are an iDiot.

Everyone saying that this app is invisible is incredibly stupid. It CLEARLY says only for iMessage.. Anyways, we really like the idea of the app and how it works. Keep it up!

If anyone has ever doubted the importance of reading comprehension activities and tests in school, please just read the content of these low star reviews. Great iMessage app, developers!

Read the description, writing this because of all the one star ratings.

That’s why you can’t find it on your screen. Not collecting data, not "hidden", it’s literally an iMessage app. You’re welcome.

Why d/l something w/o knowing what it is, then give a bad review? You harm developers who’ve made a pretty fun iMessage add-on.

They don’t realize that it’s used in chat, it’s not an app…
