Will you defeat the army of the Hegemony’s Archon and the elite force of evil blood mages sent to destroy you, or will a personal betrayal put an end to your rebellion when it’s just barely begun?

  • Play as male or female, gay, straight, or ace.
  • Fight as a renegade, aristocrat, or defiant slave

Find out what gamers are saying about Choice of Rebels: Uprising:

We’ve played around 20 of these games and Id say this is the best one in terms of engagement/immersion, difficult choices, and differences your choices actually make. Well done. We eagerly await the sequel.

We love interactive adventure stories like this. We finished the first one and it said a second would be out soon but cant tell if its going to happen or not.

This story gets you fully immersed into the character you decide to play as. You become as paranoid or scared as your character, genuinely worried about survival. We’re giving this game a solid five stars, but it is not without flaws. While the game itself is very fun to play, it is only part one. The ending of this story does not give the player a great amount of satisfaction at the ending, and the end feels slightly rigged. That’s just been our experience, however, and we don’t doubt that we could be wrong. Definitely worth the buy, but fair warning, you’ll be waiting eagerly for a part two to come out once you do.

When will the next chapters come out?! This is the best book ever!!

One of the best, immersive story, plenty of freedom and well developed characters. Whens part two ?

This is our all time favorite from the Choice of Games library. Choice of Rebels: Uprisings immaculately written branching story allows for tremendous possibilities which create a deeply immersive experience. The rebellion is as much a character as your main character as you directly influence both. Are you a charismatic revolutionary trying to smash every corrupt Hegemonic institution (all of them) or are you a brilliant strategist plotting to overthrow the government with as little shake up to the status quo as possible (you bourgeoisie bastard). Trying to survive in the wilderness while being hunted was so immersive it made us feel like we were in the film Defiance with Daniel Craig.

We need the new book!!! Please!

As someone who has played quite a few choice-driven narratives, we can confidently say that this is without a doubt the best out there. The writing is excellent, the world engaging and interesting; youd be hard-presses to find another that rivals the quality of Choice of Rebels: Uprising.

Great story Great characters Deep lore Choices matter Incredible role playing experience. Rereadable over and over again.

You can tell that the author poured his heart and soul into this game. Its quite long and really feels like you have control of the story. Im very eagerly awaiting the next one! This is up there with the hero rising storyline.

Amazing story. We cant wait till the next one comes out. It would be neat to add some kind of cheat system we think. We would like to go back and do it again with like a money cheat or an influence and stat cheat. Just to see what all we could do with it.

The author clearly approaches this as a novel that can be played as a game rather than a game that can be read as a novel. This leads to compelling characters, thought provoking themes, and an endlessly fascinating world. Your choices heavily affect the outcomes later in the game. We’ve played through the entire thing multiple times and Im still not even close to being tired of it. Cant wait for the sequel.

We play a lot of Choice games and none contend to the work put into this story.

While this is one of our favorite Choice games, with characters you actually care about and meaningful choices, it’s beginning is a large info-dump of exposition which was incredibly jarring and hard to follow. Finding what title meant what and what the social classes were shouldn’t have taken a multiple paragraph pre-read in the built in lore book. Other than that, the book was an engaging read with multiple completely different endings and hidden choices. Unfortunately, during winter a few raids and events would repeat themselves. (Minor spoilers): The event where you raid the rich noble family with the guard on the top of the ladder you either fight or send others to fight we had occur twice in a playthrough. We’re pretty sure this is either a bug or an oversight, so we can forgive it more than the exposition.

Honestly enjoyed the game to its most, but its not even the full game, and we wouldnt doubt the next parts are the same price. If you lowered the price, it would be worth the money, but we could get better and more for the same price.

  • The amount thought that was put into the characters and world is outstanding. It feels like the world truly exists outside the immediate action. – Choices always feel important, as the author has been extremely thorough in providing a variety of moving parts and diverse consequences. – Unlike many other CoG games, the stats are kept concise, and actually affect the story in meaningful ways. – Establishment of the protagonist is very well written and provides numerous fully-fleshed out possibilities. The amount of options given regarding the protagonist’s personality/motivations throughout the game really make you feel in control. – Management is challenging and immersive; the game has a much grittier and more gripping atmosphere. – Down with the hegemony! Overall, probably the best CoG game that we’ve played.

We never write reviews, but we have to rave. Choice of Rebels is one of the best titles Choice of Games has ever put out. An excellent storyline, a rich, immersive history and challenging, even agonizing, choices with both immediate and far reaching consequences all combine for an intense and satisfying story. You have chances to replay the last three of the four chapters, making changing your choices easier than most of their titles. We’ve also noticed an element of randomness to the results of certain choices which creates a more organic narration. Yet we never felt a single choice was meaningless nor taken without our characters stats in mind. There is so much replay value and each replay feels fresh and engaging.

Choice of Rebels is the best one yet. Not only is there a large setting, but there are many options about your characters origin. Further on, the aftermath of your choices is extensive and impressive, especially when its easy to get attached to the games characters. We cant wait for the next game!

We love almost all choice of games’s games, but this one has absolutely blown us away. The story is exciting, the characters are layered, each have their own type of secret, and the choices are so impactful that you actually have to take a minute to think before you make your next move. We absolutely can’t wait for the next part of the story.

Elegantly designed. Interesting setting. You have a lot of options for your character’s origin, noble or slave, and that has a tremendous effect on the story going forward. Also you choose a specialization in brains, combat, or charisma and these too can uniquely color your play in legitimately intriguing ways. Much more thought and depth here than most choice of games, less emphasis on character statistics and much more thought put into the results of your style of leadership. We don’t envy the author trying to follow this up. It’s a planned first of five and with all the evident work that’s gone into it, making the sequels won’t be easy with all the ways you can end the first game. If you like gritty, smart, thoughtful fiction that makes you think about cruelty and compassion, idealism and belief, loyalty and betrayal, this one won’t disappoint.

Im relatively new to interactive novels/narrative games and all of the ones we experience in the future have very big shoes to fill. Choice of Rebels made us gasp, tear up, get angry at our character for the choices wed made, and genuinely come to care about the other characters and our relationships. Thank you for such an amazing experience!

Our favorite COG title by far. Your choices matter, mistakes are brutal, kept us engaged in the story. We’ve replayed this several times with slightly different choices, and every time we play we get new scenes and often significant differences. We’re super excited for the second game, please keep up how great the branching is!

This is one of the best stories from COG. Very lengthy and full of choices. We loved every aspect of it. Looking forward to the sequel.

We’ve played almost every Choice of Games and Tin Man Games offered, and this by far is the best. The depth of story and world building would fit nicely into a full blown novel, rarely does that depth travel to a choice game, here it feels right at home. Another great feature, unlike in many games that funnel your choices into the same story line, your choices here do matter! Cant recommend it enough, fantastic!

Its a great story and your choices have weight to them. Go with your gut? Your heart? Your head? Give it a shot.

Extremely well written, with remarkable depth. Kept us on the edge of our seat throughout. If you’ve enjoyed the Sabres of Infinity series, the Lost Heir series, or similar stories, then do yourself a favor and read this one ASAP.

Very in-depth, a whole universe to learn about. Many branching paths and choices, we really enjoyed this. Played first play through in about 4 hours, nowhere near found all the different paths that could be taken. Worth it, and there will be a sequel!

We were excited to see what this COG story had in store, and we were not disappointed. We like how each decision had impactful consequences; however, more romance options and more character backgrounds would have been nice. The length of the "Winter" chapter became lengthy and boring, but we like the multiple themes introduced such as religion and making decisions as the Elect. We’ll be waiting to read the second installment, but as we said, we Hope for more interactions with romance options!

Doesn’t tell a complete and satisfying story arc, and balance is poor. Especially when forced to travel with the children, players aren’t given a proper opportunity to do things they really ought to be able to for food, like raiding strategic outposts for food and supplies until after disaster strikes. Combat being combined with strategy threw us for a loop at first but we got used to it, and it seems like a good way to make specializing in combat more viable and interesting, even if it makes intelligence builds seem underpowered. Either way, the difficulty of achieving good outcomes tips toward the too hard to be fun side of the scale for us. Character wise, there were multiple characters that popped up as notable rebels somewhat unexpectedly as people is suddenly knew without much of an introduction. We barely knew who ciel was at first, and we still dont really know who alira is or why shes a viable leadership candidate after multiple playthroughs. We appreciate what youre trying to do with simon/suzzane and the kalt twins, and dealing with the attraction of someone from a gender you arent attracted to, (or didnt know you were attracted to) seems like an interesting dynamic to explore. But having them automatically be the gender you arent attracted to seems forced and wrongheaded. We get that you want to avoid player-centric sexuality, but this is just player-centric sexuality in a different form that does nothing but annoy players. Id like to try and romance Suzanne without pretending to be gay for male breden. The These characters romance dynamics are interesting enough on their own without the pray the straight/gay away twist. Also, we really like the idea of Elery being a romance option, even if its not available until future installments. Having a genius option to balance out the charisma (breden) and combat (noble/kalt) feels nice and balanced, and Elery is a really exciting and impressive character. It would also be interesting to see bredens reaction to this seeing their crush and best friend together. Even if its a one sided crush on the MCs part, it would be nice to see an option reflecting our choice to intervene early in the harrowing specifically to save her, and could spice up that one zvad dialogue.

We’ve played most of the CoG offerings, and this is truly one of the best. The NPCs have multidimensional characters, the setting and plot are interesting, and its challenging to be a successful rebel, yet possible to do so. Your choices do lead to different outcomes. Peoples behavior feels realistic (within the story world in which certain types of magic are real). We replayed it many times – and, because you have to play very differently to succeed based on your stat choices, it stayed interesting. We really wanted to give this 5 stars. However, there are mechanical glitches in a few key places which have a huge impact on success in the game and was very frustrating. If the developer provides an email, we can give details. Heres a quick summary. With a few easy fixes we think this game could belong in the ranks of awesome games like the Heroes Rise series. In winter, some of your mules may become inaccessible. For instance, it may show you have 10 mules. (And that is accurate, you remember getting them.) It shows 3 dedicated to the sick, none to anything else, but no free mules. No matter what we did, for all future weeks, those 7 mules were just not assignable. We think it may be that if you assign more to the sick than you currently have, it says it will assign them the following week, but really it updates a counter incorrectly and doesnt fix it ever. In the final part of the game, there are 2 big things you can do to hinder the enemy before the final battle. Playing as Intelligence 2, we succeeded perfectly at both. It says you have 2 weeks to rest as the opponent needs to regroup. Yet in the next battle, youre exhausted as though there was no rest. (Im being vague to avoid spoilers, but for those who have played this way, you are exhausted in the sense that only a high Intelligence player could be.). The game forces you to use this skill in the next scenes – which is somewhat artificial – so it can get you killed at the end, its a very serious flaw.

We started reading it the day it dropped and we’re hooked. Haven’t even finished yet and we’re so excited at the depth of the world and the characters.

We’ve played almost every single choice of game on the App Store. This wasn’t a bad one but it wasn’t amazing either. Unlike Sabres of Infinity or Way Walkers which had outstanding characters that were memorable… This doesn’t. We found it interesting until winter. It was so boring. After the winter "stage" it go alright. It seems so unfinished and dull. It reminded of the Banner Saga! But without interesting characters and a gripping story.

As someone else also mentioned, it was good until the winter part. It all goes downhill from there. We really wasn’t a fan of the winter writing style, and allocating your soldiers to all those tasks was bearable at first but got too long and boring as winter dragged on. For the second book, we suggest keeping with the writing style in the part before/after winter. Most of the characters were just too shallow. In the Infinity books, characters like Cazarosta and Elson are so memorable and have such distinct and complex personalities. This story has one or two decent characters like your father (noble route), but by the time winter comes he’s barely mentioned and just fades into the background. In conclusion, this story had some really in depth story building, but the story was pretty weak and boring. Hope the second book is better.

We would give this 4 stars but its only part 1 of the story. Its beautifully written and Im looking forward to the rest, but its not there. The game focuses around tactics of the rebellion and notable events during a single winter. Also math. Theres a lot of math… Which you can technically choose the option to skip but it seems to put you at a real disadvantage. It also does take away from game as you are trying to figure out more how many heads you need to feed and less grand moral quandaries or standing really for anything but banditry. There are some really interesting characters, but the story doesnt really allow you to get to know them, which is too bad because the author obviously created a very rich world to draw from. All in all, we are really looking forward to the next instalment of the story and we hope that we get to explore the world and characters more.

We’ve enjoyed the plot and character development of the first chapter. However, we’ve run into too many option blunders that leave us 1) starting over because the game didnt save our progress 2) stuck in an unending loop during the winter, without the option to move forward or back in the storyline to fix the food rations (which is really frustrating given how long and tedious the winter decisions can be), or 3) storyline/plot inconsistencies that dont make sense (I.e. A very successful raid which brought in plenty of food, but resulted in disbandment of the rebel group and loss of leader trust). Fix the storyline blunders, and Ill bump this up to a 4 Star. Develop more complex characters, and this would be a 5 Star.

There are two schools of COG games: those that excel at character development, and those heavy on jargon. This, it seems, is from the latter. Stats are cemented early on, so the PC doesnt evolve. Characters are hurled at you, and are forgettable if not for the codex entries. Much of the time is spent trying to survive winter, but instead of raising tension, it becomes a bore. Mercifully, there are a few checkpoints, but the content doesnt inspire replays. The two endings we did find are abrupt, and we found we didnt care.

We like the world being built here. We do think this is a jargon heavy game which could have had better character development. There is a weird thing going on with the romance options (e.g., if you like men, the second RO is always a woman and is attracted to you, so you would switch your orientation to start something with them?). Why? Winter was really long and got boring. Still, we can see how this could become a decent series; the world itself is interesting and you can play from different perspectives. We’re not sure we would want to play a second installment though unless the style/approach changed a little bit.

Choice of Rebels is by far the best entry from the Choice of Games main brand. Overall just outstanding storytelling with a wide variety of viable paths to the numerous endgames. Cant wait for the next entry!
