Dive into Civil War: 1865

After Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina, fell to the Union, in early 1865, Jefferson Davis belatedly handed over the supreme command or the army to General Lee. This could not stop the Union armies pressing on through North Carolina, capturing Fayetteville, Bentonville, Goldsboro and Raleigh by mid-April.

Exhausted by the Union siege of Petersburg and Richmond, Lee’s forces made a last attempt at resistance, attacking and capturing Fort Stedman on March 25. A rapid counterattack reversed the victory, however, and on the night of April 2nd the Confederate army finally evacuated Richmond. For most of the next week, the Union army pursued the Confederates along the Appomattox River, exhausting any chance of escape. Grant accepted Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th. Sherman accepted Johnston’s surrender at Durham Station, North Carolina on April 26th, finally ending the American Civil War, and to slavery in the United States of America.

Find out what gamers are saying about Civil War: 1865:

STOP taking away the Southern Cross Confederate Battle flag from your games especially this late in the war. Every new update that is put out diminishes the value and/or the historical meaning of the game. States Rights and are second war of independence! Not what the media and the new history books say, our ancestors and more than 90% of the other southerners didnt fight to maintain slavery. While the Union maintained slavery up north until way later after the war under the American flag……….. The last update that we got for 1864 will not even open, the main screen comes on and then it blows up that it just shows the top left corner of it. Like it is on an iPad. Do Not Update this game!!!!

We’ve been playing these wonderful Civil War scenarios for many years and have purchased more than a dozen. We think there is a problem with Bentonville and we see that others have mentioned problems they were having 2-3 years ago. It has not been addressed in all that time. That is not a good sign.

Our biggest problem is #1 the grammatical errors in the text of the game. This is just sloppy effort by the developers and shows lack of care. #2 the inaccurate maps/battlefields which is a tad more forgiving than the ridiculous basic misspellings!

It’s actually bentonville that’s impossible. Too many generals and too little troops. Even on easy mode it’s so far impossible. We’ve tried about 20 approaches and all have failed. We’ve gotten thru every other battle in all the other years but this one. Help!!

This is one of the best strategy games of American civil war ever created by Hexcow. We really enjoyed it and love it.

Not so great on our iPhone, but really good on our iPad. I’d like you guys to create a hex-based wargame with NATO military-type icons where you can adjust the combat values and lots of different maps. A guy named Cozart had a PC game called Board Warfare a while back that was pretty fun. How ’bout it? Or, how about a modern or near-future game less sci-fi than your mech game?

If you like the others you will like this one.

Good game overall. This version has missions that are more difficult than the previous versions.

Averasboro for the northern troops has too many generals and not enough troops to complete the mission by turn 12. Please fix it. We tried several times and different approaches and still to no avail. Can’t kill 30 % of the southern troops though was able to capture the control point.

This game is garbage impossible situations that never happened can not win on this game no instructions on how to win and some battles never really happened.

Update… Bentonville can be won if you capture the control point first. Still needs work but it can be beaten. So far it’s decent, however the bentonville scenario cannot be won the way you wrote the victory conditions. It states that you need to hold 1 control point. We have done this. However after you destroy 10% of the confederate army the quick notice at the top says you have to hold all the control points. When main (readable) the conditions still state 1. There are not enough union troops (except for a large number of generals) to hold all of them and can’t seem to hit a barn at 1 hex. Where the confederate troops, even the "raw" groups are fighting and shooting like elite. Let’s get some QA here before you release it.

We agree with #2 review. Same thing Confederate should win, but loses. Mistake in your game. Please fix.

We’ve had the ironclad sitting at the control point with all the Union units dead prior to turn 21, still lose.

We love all your hex war games especially those that are based on the Civil War … However your last three apps ( including this game ) are impossible to play … Please fix the problems in your last three apps !!!

The first scenario of the first campaign is impossible for the Union side… The 12 turns aren’t enough and too many Rebel reinforcements arriving at the last minute make it impossible for the Union to meet victory conditions. Therefore, the Union player cannot progress onto the other scenarios. On the flip side, the Rebel player gets 16 turns (no reinforcements). Unbalanced, please fix!!!
