Dark Echo Reviews

We’ve never had a mobile game that makes us jump like this one.

As a developer myself our first thought when we saw this game featured was, Those echo effects are soooo cool! And after buying it we gotta say this is very well made. We never been a fan of scary movies nor especially games, but we love puzzles (Monument Valley is a fav) and avoiding red stuff you cant see didnt seem that scary. We have bought it now, love the price btw, and surprised myself that that aspect is actually a bit scary. Im good and think this game is awesome! But if you really dont like horror (I wasnt exactly frightened just nervous- Im very competitive) even if it doesnt seem all that creepy beware.

Just finished the dark world, was sad when it was over, then they hit us with more levels! Great scaling of challenge and horror. Love the thought process you need when taking on each level. Kudos!!

We remember when this game was free a while back we had it on another phone and we just couldnt remember the name for some reason but Im so happy we found it again although we had to pay for it this time.

Seeing the footsteps of something chasing you is the worst. And hearing the sounds. All and all, a truly scary experience. Especially alone and in the dark!

The sound effects alone will make the hair raise on the back of your neck. Just wish it had more levels. Otherwise it is just fantastic A+++

This game is amazing! We just cant believe we forgot to read it years ago when we first tried it! We’ve never played anything like it & we play a lot of games! Its totally intense and scary at times & it will surely make you jump! Especially if you play with their headphones on in the dark!! Try it out youll be happy!!!!

Played this way back in 2015. Just searched for it again through our purchases because we have a big ole hankering for it, but didnt remember the name. So much fun- just the right amount of creep factor. Sound design is immaculate. We can still remember our kid imagination running wild as we would be making our own plot up along the way.

We found this game to be a bit odd at first. Then was introduced with the enemys and traps and was intrigued by the game play then so on so forth with all the puzzle levels. This is our first game review and really am still enjoying to play now. Keep up the good work!!

Ok, this is a horror game, but its disappointingly not that scary, but who cares? This game is absolutely amazing. It uses a great mechanic, has great sound, and is very, VERY hard at times. Really, the only thing thats scary is the enemies. They sometimes come out of nowhere and and that causes you to panic and accidentally run right into them. Also, the death sound effect. Holy crap, the death sound effect. It starts with a scream, then you hear bones cracking, blood spattering, and chunks of flesh falling to the ground. Its delightful. Sarcasm intended.

This game give a challenge at level about 20+ and is very fun to play it has great mechanics and great controls we all around love this game.

We are a huge scaredy cat and cant watch scary movies or anything because we end up crying, and this game is definitely really creepy and scary. But it is such a thrill playing this game. We were frightened but could not stop playing this game. We love that it makes you think, strategize, and keeps you on your toes. We have finished this game and still replay and replay! We love this!

Holy heck, when we first saw this game on Chills we were like: Lol this looks so boring, hahahaha but when we actually played it we were like: woah this game is so fun.

We do love this game. However apparently theres a bug on level XXXII – Ambush. When the level begins, all 6 monsters around us are already triggered, causing our instant death. We even tried to watch a walkthrough in YouTube, but in those videos the monsters are not triggered right when the level starts. Perhaps thats a bug, or maybe we just couldnt figure it out yet. Ill keep trying! Haha.

Its a pretty good game. The game mechanics are at times hard to remember but… Pretty good.

Gotta say, his game is a must have. Wish there was more and after you beat the game your foot steps looked different.

We love this game but sometimes it is laggy and glitchy.

The controls need work for one side to throw a rock the other to walk sometimes you walk when you try to throw a rock and it get you killed it shouldnt be walk on all sides it makes it annoying to throw a rock.

Navigating is really difficult.

We love this game but the problem is that it is way to short. We could finish this game in like an hour, and also its really easy so please fix these things and then it will be a five out five game.

Ok Im gonna try to hand constructive criticism here. Most pertinent issues… The lack of checkpoints makes the game a bit frustrating and less scary over time. We find myself agilely and cleverly out maneuvering monsters or demon things only to do a misstep or clap by mistake and being sent right back to the beginning. Also the instant transition after you die we feel sends the wrong message because this game is about slow and methodical movements most of the time, and its supposed to be scary. Perhaps you could let the player mellows in several scary sounds like after eating perhaps you can hear the body being dragged away, maybe a sharp bone snap before fading back to the beginning. Something to give newbies a fright and veterans time to rethink their strategy. The controls make our fingers cramp after time. It is a bit frustrating, but idk how to fix them without changing all of them. Idk how hard it is to do iPhone controls. Control suggestions that idk how work… The most common method of travel sneaking involves quick tapping, unless you know there arent enemies or you know you wont trigger them. Since you use sneaking more than you use walking perhaps you could make tapping running and sliding sneaking. Just a thought. It can get really frustrating when we want to sneak, but because our finger has been fatigued we end up clapping, which most likely guarantees an insta-death and being sent back to the beginning. Throwing we feel can be the same thing. Im not sure if throwing is encouraged or discouraged. If its supposed to be discouraged then perhaps you can have the player pick up a limited amount of stones we can imagine someone being freaked out because they realized they ran out of stones. If it is supposed to be encouraged then some more ergonomic controls would be nice or a method of aiming. It can be frustrating when a rock strikes a area where we didnt want it to and get instakilled. Other suggestions… Also one thing Id like to mention is that you sneak and throw rocks 95% of the time, unless you want to die. It gets irritatingly repetitive and frustrating. It would be REALLY awesome if you could use environmental sounds to trigger enemies or if could enemies to trigger certain things when lured into doing so. Like if the enemies killed certain things right in front of the player that would extra spooky. A story or reward would be nice, with stranger and witness, we thought there was going to be some story, but there wasnt. We feel a bit cheated. We even played the light section thinking that perhaps there would be something unique about us being in light where we could in theory see. Adding some text at the bottom analyzing our characters thoughts or what they can feel in the environment would go a long ways of growing our immersion or attachment or motivation to play the 80 levels within this game. It could even clear up confusion since we remember being confused when part of the map caved in or a monster was released because we were too noisy. Even adding a map at the end would be a nice reward since you can trace out where you went or be like oh so thats where we were stuck, Verdict… Anyhow Im going to have to give this game a low rating because it got repetitive to us, had little payback for completing its levels, and wasnt able to immerse us much beyond the (admittedly pretty good) sounds which kind of lost their power after being looped to us so many times.

Unsolvable floor due to poor adaptation to Apple TV- you cant throw rocks to distract the monster like on other platforms. When we knew we had solved it, but couldnt do what was necessary, we checked a variety of video walkthroughs which verified the issue was Apple TV. We’ve written weeks ago to the company, and theyve ignored our support request. Generally, before that glitch halted all progress, it was way too easy and a bore. Dont waste your money.

Its a good thing Apple is switching to a subscription service. They recommend games like this and its obvious in 30s it was a horrible mistake, but your money is completely wasted. They dont even show you what the gameplay is like. At first we thought the game was buggy, and only later did it hit us it was just poorly designed.

Best game we have played!!! Finished it before and now back to play again!!!! Wishing for a sequel.

Really love the design of this game! Playing it with headphones on is an awesome experience.

Dark Echo is unlike any horror game we have ever witnessed. It isn’t concluded by logic, it’s formed by imagination and impulse. (Spoilers ahead in what we say next). When you enter that final door, everything flashes white. You hear birds chirping around you. Your character slows to a halt, and then the game ends. It leaves you shaking down to the bone and in tears. ‘What happened?’ You may wonder. It’s up to you to decide that. In our mind, we pictured the guy escaping. He slows down to a halt until suddenly collapsing down onto his knees, sobbing his heart out. Where was he? Who was he…? This was our theory until we reopened the app to see it continued in white and black now. In our head and possibly in his, we see the sounds of birds chirping as an illusion. Just before he gets slain by that nearby red monster, realization hits him in the face that it’s just starting all over again. No matter what the poor guy does, he’s always stuck in this never ending madness. In conclusion, we just want to say thank you. Thank you for creating such a brilliant and innovative game. We have a small complaint though. As of right now, the game will not stop CRASHING. We cannot even open the app. We really do not want to delete the app because we were 1 level away from completing the Light realm. At first it crashed when we decided to go replay the first two episodes of the dark realm, and now it refuses to let us open the game. We would really really appreciate if you tried to fix this for us. Maybe other people are having the same problem? We just want to finish the game.. –AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS– The game continues to forcefully crash. We don’t know why. The most horrific part is that we were on the last level and can’t seem to even open it at all. It’s really bad. We hope you somehow manage to fix this. –AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS– Got so hopeful that the game would work again due to recent updates, but it proceeded to crash. Im not very obliged to the idea of deleting the app and reinstalling since we were one level away from completing the Light realm as you know. We constantly tap on the game just to see it would magically work, but it does not. Very disappointing. We really hope you get around to fixing this problem. Until then, Ill keep on tapping the app each day in hopes that itll work. Our condolences if Im bothering you too much, Im sure youre very busy. We just hope youll get around to solving this problem now that youre back to trying to tweak the game.

This app should set the bar for all other apps.

Best game ever fun and challenging.

Great visuals and sounds, cool concept for a game we havent seen before.

We didnt have super high expectations for this app, but itll genuinely make you panic and jump sometimes. The devs really know how to play with atmosphere and humans inherent fear of the dark and unknown. Play with headphones on in a dark room for maximum immersion.

Ok, we love this game, but its sometimes glitchy and always annoying. Im just salty because its hard, but seriously one time we threw a rock and lead all of the monsters into one corner, and when we lead all of the back, one of them teleported or something. There was still one there when they clearly all left. (I counted) Its a great concept, but maybe a level maker would be cool. We understand if you cant implement our ideas, but we just think it would make the game a little bit more interesting. Im stuck on level XXXIII and its glitchy as heck. If its not the glitches, Im just dumb but we seriously dont know how to beat it. We looked up a walkthrough and still couldnt beat it, so we might delete it. But anyway, its a good game that needs more features.

This game has great potential but unfriendly controls and clashing visuals make this game unenjoyable after the first few levels.

Interesting game but we’ve been wandering the same level for weeks!!! Need more hints that we’re going the right way. Game is getting frustrating.

We love this game so much, the surround sound was epic!

This game should cost money to be honest, it is an original game with an outstanding atmosphere. The developers really nailed it when making this game :)

Personal review we thought that this game is just going to be some boring game story, but we decided to give it a try, and wow. This game is extremely marvelously, creepily addictive. It’s so simplistic yet so creative at the same time, we are enjoying this game very much.

This is an Awesome game. And a very clever usage of Unity. As a developer myself, we’re officially jealous. Congratulations our friend.

We had fairly low expectations for this game coming from a developer with a small repertoire of releases. They really have an amazing concept with this game. As many other reviews say, the levels start out easy and allow you to get a feel for the game. But once you start really getting into it, it becomes an amazing horror game. Playing with headphones and the lights out makes the experience you have in this game even more incredible. It is a must have for all gamers.

This is a truly scary game that combines sound, darkness, and strategy. One of the most things that make this game better then most horror games is that sound and darkness make it a lot scarier. So in this good sense we say worth the money and a great game. DARK ECHO!

When we downloaded the game we wasn’t sure what to expect… We know there are games that claim to be scary (slenderman etc.) and in the game-plays people go ridonkulous over how scary these games are… But this one… This game definitely creeped us. This game is a reminder of what lurks in the dark. With stunning graphics and simple, yet interesting gameplay, this game is a true five star. We recommend this game to anyone who enjoys simple and non-gory games.

We have to say that this game is a very great game that brings one of the creepiest things to you’re smart phone it brings a whole new world to Horror games and the details and game mechanics are very pleasant and the best part is the sound when it echoes through you’re brain overall we would recommend this game for people who want to feel a little bit creeped.
