Hear from the Players – Dog Mendonca Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Dog Mendonca:

Great artwork and a fun story with amusing characters — instant classic if you ask us! Wish there were more like it, or maybe a sequel.

This game is a perfect adventure game. AMAZING animation and character designer. Great storyline and super funny. You guys got it right!!

If you are a fan of true puzzle point-and-click adventure games (ala Monkey’s Island, Full throttle, Grim Fandango, etc.) then this is the perfect game for you. The imagery is beautiful, and story line is fun. Yes, it’s a little clunky and the voices aren’t always the most animated, but this is a point-and-click game, not Call of Duty (which we also play- there is a time and place for it all). Many reviews are overly harsh about the speed and feel of the game, but they miss the fact that it’s about the puzzles, story, and graphics. A definite must!!! We hope they make a sequel!

This game was both challenging and beautiful. The puzzles kept us guessing. We thought the voice acting fit the murder mystery detective vibe the game has. We also loved all the references to other games and pop icons. However, the touch controls in the game need work. The magnifying glass icon doesn’t work half the time and dragging items was cumbersome. Small thing though. We thoroughly enjoyed the game!

The graphics were awesome. We thought the voice acting was a let down though and we wish there was less dialogue to read through. It got to a point where we just started skipping through the reading because it was taking to long to get through it all. The gameplay was cool though. Just wish there was more of it and less reading.

More interactive information about everything around you. Only main objective items. Voice acting could have been better. Dialogue options could be better too. Story is interesting, visuals are nice. You walk to slow. 80s theme is radical.

Good art, bad game. Absolutely random dialogue choices to progress, otherwise enjoy looping through the same text over and over. Very little to interact with outside of what is required. Voice acting could have used more direction. Boring to put it shortly, unfortunately. It had potential.

We love point and click adventure games. The unique comic style, action sequences/ detailed backgrounds and art are really good, reminded us a bit of the later Runaway games. We played for about 20 min and gave up. We found The questioning dialogue sections to be repetitive and random, making you guess your best choice but if your wrong you just have to keep looping through the same stuff til you find the ‘right’ one. The voice acting is so distracting/off/awkward. Maybe it’s a translation issue? And there is a LOT of clunky dialogue, many dull sentences to comb through. And for all the beautiful backgrounds/rooms you go through, there is literally nothing to interact with. (Such as examining random objects, looking at things, funny commentary by the main character, etc, making an immersive exploring environment.). The ONLY things you can get any response from in the rooms/areas are the MAIN objectives. We paid 5 bucks and we think this is the first time we gave up on a beautifully animated , cool looking adventure game out of boredom. Maybe we missed something and it’s for younger players? Sorry to be negative but we were excited and now meh. Update: we tried again, and didn’t make it much further. We think what is seriously missing ISNT the writing, it’s the voice acting. Also, the environment and items are 95% non-environment interactive (which is a lot of the fun with these games, you get to explore, look at things which might be random, etc) and we think buggy. You can’t combine most items or try to use them on the ‘wrong’ people. What makes a Point n click story great is the ability to check out a lot of things, have unique and specific responses (great example is Runaway or Broken Sword series). With such great art, it just needs to be more in-depth with the character and environment interaction. And again, the voice acting is just annoying.

Can’t even get past the intro text.

We cannot see the full screen as it orients in portrait mode and is cut off in full screen. When we try to use portrait orientation it still only shows part of the screen and is much shorter.

We were initially interested in this, due to our love of the Broken Sword series from Revolution (which are terrific, btw). First – the good… Beautiful imagery. No discounting that. Love the detail that went into it. But that’s it for the good. The bad – well, everything else. Extremely short for a $5 game (finished in two hours), very inconsistent and clumsy controls ( no real direction on gameplay except constantly pressing the magnifying glass to find search areas and the notepad would work 80% of the time), lame and incoherent gypsy curse story line, voice acting which was ok, but phoned in (no change in tone when Dog was wrestling), and just a lack of polish overall. This is one of the annoying games that hound have been so much better. Look for the Broken Sword series if you want to see it done right…
