WHAT’S BEHIND THE DOOR?

A few hundred condemned criminals were being shipped to the Auriga system on board the prison hulk “Success”. While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust.

In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet.

Luckily, every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of Endless facility, all the way down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon…

Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee Reviews

This game didnt start off as a great port, but constant work has made it quite playable on our iPad mini. It takes a bit to learn, but once you wrap your mind around the mechanics, its quite fun and one of the better strategy games around for iOS. Certain controls are unintuitive however. At first we struggled on equipping items. We didnt realize there was a double press involved. And we wish there was a select all heroes button instead of the double click method they used. We have more than once accidentally ruined a heroes operator status or accidentally moved every hero beside the one we were intending to.

Amplitude studios is amazing! We hope they will bring Endless Space 2 onto mobile. Our life would be complete.

We played this game years ago on PC and was delighted to find it available for touchscreen devices. Even on iPad, this game does not disappoint. Definitely among the best roguelike games we’ve ever played. The music is terrific, the strategy is deep, its extremely replayable, and the only reasons for complaint are that the major module upgrades in the shop are covered up so you cant see the Science cost. There are also some odd text display errors in which the text is sometimes only a letter wide. Overall though, these are small issues and dont impact our enjoyment of the game that much.

Explore, forage, build the line then hold it, find the exit. Then do it again and again until you escape or die trying. We adore this game. We love the process it presents. The lore, the characters, along with the sounds and music that round it out. It is unlike anything else we’ve played and while it may not be for everyone, it is definitely for us.

This port is well done. We were a little worried about how intuitive the touch controls would be on mobile. Couldnt be happier! This truly is one of our favorite games of all time. We fell in love with it in PC when it released, we dont even know how many hours we’ve put into this game across PC, console, and now mobile. The soundtrack is top tier, the art style is dripping with atmosphere, and the gameplay is innovative and addictive. The risk and reward system is excellently executed. Thank you Amplitude, for making this game. Now we have a few doors we know are waiting to be opened.

Love the game we have it in Xbox too. Quick and easy fun with a challenge. Playing for a month now and still only playing on very easy. Happy hunting fellas!

One of the best iPad games ever!

This is a bit closer to the way the game is suppose to be played. We were saddened by how the xbox version feels fresh squeezed out of a hot anus. We wish they would give that version the kind of care they are giving this APOGEE EDITION. So this is what a finished version of the game feels like. Its pretty nice being able to actually use the tactical map to almost full affect. On xbox?.. That tacmap is just a novelty. We think everyone went home early that day. The day that they were porting the tacmap to xbox and porting the options menu as well. We fired this iOS version up and saw the options menu and was like genius, an options menus. Who would have ever considered to put an options menu in a game? Im being spoiled over here. We had not realized what a dog house in the rain the xbox version really was, but when you are treated like a dumb-beast long enough, dot dot dot Yep, this is a proper version that Id compare to perhaps a fine dining experience. A good morning steak and eggs (closed our eyes, smacking lips together and salivating ) or perhaps an upscale cordon bleu coupled with a savory glass of white wine. Not a half chewed turkey leg thrown into the rainy mud like the xbox version. IOS version highly recommended.

Love the game but inexcusable this bug has been unaddressed for so long.

The art work is amazing we have had so much fun playing this game on PC and got excited when it was ported to mobile. Our only complaint and it is a big complaint that should be a easy fix, is that there is no pause when health is low for a character. Because of perma death it is devastating for a game when a character dies and it is such a easy mistake to make. Please implement a pause on low health.

Ill just cut to the chase: DotE is one of the best Roguelikes ever made (and it also takes place in and sends the stage for one of the most lore-rich and well fleshed-out fantasy/sci fi universes ever created, if thats something that interests you). Also, this port quality now with the recent QoL updates is pure gold. We’ve been playing our iPad and iPhone both and having a blast. This will permanently remain on any iOS device we own for the indefinite future. So why are you still reading this? Just buy this game already! And Amplitude, please keep the hits coming!! Im looking forward to Humankind, but cannot wait for Endless Dungeon!

One of the most unique games we’ve played. Dote really keep you on your toes and pushes you to keep going. Has big one more floor energy. Great on tablet or larger sized iPhones. Thanks for bringing this classic back to mobile.

So much potential but the tutorial system is one of the worst we have ever had the displeasure to use. Fix the tutorial.

We think this is a game that you will love or hate. Its very addictive and fun for us at least. The only real negative is that you cant save. And this goes from slightly annoying early on to a very big negative late in the game. The strategy is deeper than you initially think and it takes some time to perfect it, but it doesnt feel like wasted time. Id like in this game to a sort of cheap hybrid between Warcraft and Diablo though nowhere near as good as either of those. Still, unique and fun.

We would love to use our Backbone with this!

Ill continue to support these devs as they make great games. This title is extremely unique and we cant wait for the successor. There is a bug on the iPad mini (6th gen) when you are researching you cannot see the science cost for the first item as the last item covers the price. The only other thing that we dont like is when zooming back into the playable view it always goes back to where the camera was and not the room you are pinch-to-zooming on. Easy 5 stars if those are addressed.

Great game with an excellent amount of depth and variety to each run and an absolutely outstanding art style and soundtrack. Dont be fooled by the price tag, this is a full fledged, microtransaction-free roguelike, with a very interesting gameplay loop that immediately put us in the just one more run mindset. On a 2021 11 inch iPad Pro however, there are some annoying visual glitches. When a horizontal list of items is shown (for example each characters stats, or available research items at a science crystal) the rightmost item will often awkwardly wrap to the next row. This is particularly egregious in the research crystal where the wrapped item will actually obscure the cost of the first option in the list! We suspect this is very much not intentional, but its had quite a negative impact on an otherwise flawless mobile port. Easy 5 stars if this bug were fixed.

This game is miles deep and a lot of fun for strategists. We have been playing it non stop for weeks since we downloaded it. This is perhaps a testament to to how good the game is, because we’ve noticed that based on reviews from players who have the pc version ( or any other version) this is by far an inferior port. Still a lot of fun though and has has not stopped us from enjoying it. With hard to see visuals, (doesnt help that Im playing on an iPhone instead of a tablet) but also extremely annoying text glitches during the elevator sequences, we need a few updates. The text sometime is one letter wide for some reason and is pretty much impossible to read (its also way too small). Developers, please fix the messed up text. Also this version is missing the Australium content, would be nice to see that in a new update too. update to review There are issues with the construction screen that really need fixing. The major module screen doesnt display the Med module if you have unlocked all the others (maybe because its lower on the screen and there is no way to scroll the window). Please fix as its pretty frustrating to not be able to use all the items In the ge.

The game and visuals seem good, but the UI doesnt display correctly on an iPad mini. At minimum, the research screen renders the second row overlapping the first, obscuring the costs. The confirm/cancel button also appear in the center of the screen, which also seems wrong. As others have mentioned, the font is extremely small. Increasing it might cause other problems fitting everything on screen, though. The game really needs a database or help for anything on screen, so you can read enemy stats/type or preview skills on items before you buy. As it is, you kind of need to play with a fan wiki open.

The only reason we bought this in the first place was because the multiplayer for this game on PC is nonexistent, and maybe bringing it to mobile would allow more people to play together, but the option isnt even there :/ fat bummer.

We find the same kinds of (mostly empty) rooms over and over again its easy until we try to move the crystal. Then we face an impossible gauntlet of enemies and die. We dont have enough resources to buy many upgrades, as it seems we only produce resources when we open a door. Am we missing something? If so, its poorly explained. Terrible new player experience.

Good gameplay. Nice balanced strategy. The tutorial really doesnt help though, we had to go find online guides to figure it out, so be advised that you will need to learn it elsewhere. The save game system is highly frustrating. We’ve probably lost about 6 games so far where it erased our progress and dropped us back to the start of the level, due to either game crashes, or pausing the game for a bit to do something else and iOS closes the app in the background automatically. When we come back to this app, we get a nice reminder to not close it while its saving. (Which we did not do) If you arent willing to sit down and play through an entire level at once, then dont do it as it will be frustrating to lose your progress. The auto-save game needs to happen every room, not every level. We have an iPhone 12 Pro, so its not old technology causing the problems. Anyway, wait until they address this bug along with the problems on the research screen layout. Otherwise it would actually be pretty fun.

Updated for v1.03: 5 stars for the PC game, and would be 5 for iOS port if not for GUI / interface issues. Needs another pass or two in the play testing department. V1.03 brought needed quality of life improvements but one of the biggest issues remains: it is incredibly frustrating to select a character and find them on the map. 1.03 completely removed the ability to zoom to a character, which is an absolutely essential function! Double tap and long press do nothing. Im sending feedback directly to devs. Be warned, this port still needs help.

Cannot recommend for phones or small tablets. The game was not designed for a small screen and unfortunately no effort was made to improve playability or accessibility. Being able to zoom in to text or to have text boxes enlarge when selected would improve this dramatically. Might be playable on a larger format iPad.

We love dungeon of the endless. If we were just reviewing the game its an easy 5 stars. However, this version has a UI issue where you cannot research the fourth module available or see the cost of the the first because they overlap and go over the bottom of the screen. Do not recommend trying until this is fixed.

This aint a genesis, stop pretending that it is. The game should launch way faster and stop making us watch through these silly ads for teams we’ve never heard of before nor ever will again laterI dont care, we want to play the game we paid for.

The developers clearly had ambitions to "improve" the UI, but the results are uneven at best. UI elements are unnecessarily enlarged, but art seems to be the same size? Comparing to the previous port this is a major step back in usability. Elements that used to be perfectly legible are actually worse here somehow. (Weapon type icons on characters are a blurry, illegible mess.) Nearly every change we can see seems like a step backwards from the original UX. Also, the unskippable studio cards when you launch the game are hugely annoying.

The game is great and challenging but we are having some frustrating glitches. We have unlocked all the ships and played with them. We can even see our high scores with each in the journal, even though we randomly got locked out of most of our ships. After spending hours accomplishing these achievements we are quite annoyed!!!! Please developer, fix this soon! We want to continue to love this game. UPDATE: we are still waiting on a fix. It seems like it affects the Sanitary Pod and Refreezorator Pod. We just spent even more time unlocking both again and once more got locked out! Once we complete another game it tells us we unlocked a pod we already have unlocked and then locks us out of other pods. This is incredibly frustrating. Does anyone read these reviews?

We were trying to re-download dungeon of the endless from the purchase we made over a year ago and stumbled upon this. We assumed we wouldn’t be charged $8 for a game we had previously purchased but we sadly disappointed. Remember home gamers – buying a game in Apple store always risks they delist and relist it forcing you to pay twice.

The size of the text is inexcusable. Also, no ability to zoom in or out. Games been in the upcoming games feature for months and this is how they deliver it? Pathetic. EDIT: after update text is still completely unreadable unless you are using a magnifying glass. Uninstalling. Id throw it away if possible.

We used to play on iPad a couple years ago glad its finally on iPhone. Great game tons of fun a lot to learn. Definitely recommend.

So Im intrigued by the minimalist storyline, atmosphere, the dynamic dungeon settings and layouts. The progress system and character building and design seems solid as well. Great use of screen real estate for the UI, but…. While importing this from PC into mobile format, it seems that no consideration was given to the text size on smaller forms (iPhone 11 Pro Max). 70% of all text in the game is way too SMALL (see what we did there?). And the other 30% requires squinting. And we get it- it looks awesome on an iPad (I own one as well), but please developers- on your next update: include an option to enlarge fonts or a zoom-in ability (tap or pinch) on fields that show texts. Our eyes hurt. All the same, thank you for this great port, team.

This game is a really unique piece. Fantastic music, just enough but not overbearing quirky dialog and a solid gameplay mechanic. Its just slightly lacking on content however we feel with a few more updates this will be over the top awesome.

We’ve played this game extensively on Steam and immediately pre-ordered it when we saw it was being released on iOS. We were available to play it the exact moment we received the alert it was ready to download, so at that time we dumped about an hour of gameplay into it. It is indeed a faithful port of the PC version, which Im quite happy about. We think this title will do well on the mobile platform, though we think the screen maneuvering can be done a bit better. Perhaps a more fluid, free-form panning of the screen would suffice rather than the current controls.

We’ve played defense based games but this one is imo unique. Has a fair difficulty, but once u realize how the flow of the gameplay works youll also figure out why the game is fun :D.

We’ve played a lot of this on PC. Playing on iPhone and iPad is great except for a few things: Health bars are too small, we find it very hard to see current health at a glance, perhaps making the health bars 3x thicker would help Healing/selecting a crew member being on the same button is rough on a small screen.

Its a great game all around however it gives off the feel that it was originally meant to be for pc but was changed to mobile for example one of the most key features selecting characters sometimes you need to select just two or so characters and to do so is very hard to do its still doable due to the pause option however without the pause option (which will be something youll deal with later on) its very difficult to do another thing is the map its a good thing and bad thing bad because sometimes when we go do pull up the map we end up selecting a character and moving them in the process these are some problems that seemed to be caused simply for the fact that theres no mouse its the same with the game (faster then light) and (dead cells) it doesnt feel like a problem until you further into the game or have something to compare it to we mean Im not trying to complain so heres a way it could be fixed for the map add a option in settings so you can select if you want to access the map with a button icon or of if you want to use the hand gesture to select as for the characters select give a option to chose the characters you want to pick when you double tap or something of that nature it can be to where you can toggle these settings on and off in settings so its fits better again Im not trying to be critical as the game has just been released but this game has serious potential we mean its already good but its the small things that makes the difference in the long run this is all assuming this game might get updated in the future and is not the final version is it is the final version and there will be no more updates the so be it currently Im not judging this as a full game but one that might be updated in the future for whatever reason but other then that its a good game.

So far we love it, we dont have a console or pc, so our iPhone X is where we game. We love how much depth there is, but the fact we cant scale font or UI to read what things do is tough. Maybe consider in a future update being able to scale font, will change to 5 with larger text. Great game.

We’ve played and completed DoTE on the PC years ago. We were excited to play it again on a mobile device. But at the moment, this is not a good port. Overall it seems like they added touch controls and got it to build on mobile, but put no effort into reworking the game for mobile. For instance, the UI is not scaled for small screens at all. Text is barely readable its so small, and icons on equipment have just been down scaled so they look like muddy blobs and you cant tell what the icon is supposed to be. You can zoom out to the map, but cant zoom in, so your little heroes get mobbed by hordes of indistinguishable enemy pixels. You cant see if the enemies are ones that attack heroes or structures its just a blob. The hot buttons for your heroes skills are also fiddly to pop out and use. We think this could be all fixed with more work, but right now we would say buy this on PC not mobile.

Playing on a lm iPhone 12 the text is just far too small. Please add a setting to make the font bigger.

This game definitely hooked us in. Many playthroughs later and Im still into it. Amazing music, great characters, etc is what still has us trying to finally win a game, but it honestly feels like Im likely to never win due to the randomly generated elements of the game making or breaking our chances. The top floor is easily where the RNG matters the most. Theres rooms with no defense options and with limited power to the rooms its a huge issue and can throw away all those hours of getting to the top in an instant. Enemies are also an RNG issue. Our recent top floor attempt was ruined mainly because the game kept spamming those stupid module destroying enemies in mass so the weapons meant to deal with them couldnt keep up which exhausted our supplies. It feels like skill doesnt matter because we’ve got a good handle on the game now but the idiotic randomness negates all that. Im probably gonna stop trying soon because its all up to chance. And a permadeath game that lasts hours just to end simply because of a little bad luck is a waste of time. Edit:Finally won a game. The escape floor spawned close and we managed to barely make it with 2 of our 4 team members dying. Really just came down to luck, which is the main issue.

Great game. Please allow the user to increase text size. Currently, it is unreadable (too small). We will rate as 5 stars if the problem is fixed.

This game labors under the impression that we are viewing our iPhone through a microscope. While this may be taken as a sign of our age, as we are in our late 20s (a gaming octogenarian), we do not see how even a whipper snapper could be expected to read the games text. There are neutrinos bigger than the character selection screens font. Seriously, how did this get a green-light for release on iPhone? Maybe if you already know how to play this game from other versions, we guess go ahead and burn your cash for a mobile version. Regrettably, this was our first attempt, and Im sad to see it spoiled. We have asked for a refund.

We preordered this game because we love roguelike games. We really wanted to like this one and spent last two days trying to get into it.. We just couldnt do it. First, the tutorial is atrocious and barely introduces you to the game. But our biggest complaint is that the text in this game is really, really small. Its impossible to read some of it (like merchant prices) and there is no option to change the text size. We do not wear glasses and this is the first time we’ve struggled this much to read game text. There are a few other design choice that made us throw our hands up, but the most annoying the ability to select only one crew member or all of them. Sometimes we wanted to leave one slow crew member in a choke point and use the others to explore and open rooms but we found myself accidentally selecting all which kept moving our slow, ranged character away from his position. This game has potential, but needs a couple updates to realize its potential.

The game is fun, however trying to read half the text in the game using your phone (iPhone 12 Pro) is beyond impossible. Not to say all test is this way but a good chunk of it is. For example trying to read the description of a character by holding down our finger on the selected character displays text we literally could not read… The thing is, its not that it wouldnt fit on the screen, its that they didnt bother to scale it appropriately. Im not saying all aspects of the game are like that, but if you plan on reading what is actually going on half the time then expect to be disappointed. We will change this review if they resolve the poor text scaling.

You can’t read some text and it’s impossible to see some item symbol? Ok fair enough. But not being able to move characters zoomed out and how often they accidentally move from zooming or are selected when they don’t touch them breaks the game. And urgent call doesn’t let us recruit anyone they’re all "incompatible" with the ship. Please patch. The old version crashed this runs great but needs bug fixes!!
