A Glimpse into Eden Obscura

Welcome to a paradise of sound and life.
Journey to the garden of sound and life, a mysterious and artistic place full of the extraordinary!

Eden Obscura, named after the historic camera obscura, is quite literally "light" entertainment; it uses the camera in your phone to create interactive visual effects while you jump around the screen gathering pollen to grow surreal artistic plants and landscapes in a world that is like no other. Vibrant colors combined with eclectic and sophisticated electronic music take you on an artistic and mind expanding journey, while at the same time it is quite simply a ton of fun to play.

================================

・An artistic style simulating nature and plant life, imagined through the random flow of ink dropped down a sheet of paper.

・Unique garden visuals that use the camera to synthesize light and your surroundings in realtime.

・A unique action experience born from the symphony of grooving techno/house sound and stylistic visuals.

================================

■Nominated in 3 categories as the first Japanese title by IGF Awards hosted by Game Developer Conference and selected as the committee choice award by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in the Art Festival Entertainment category, the world-acclaimed PixelJunk Eden takes on new life on mobile as Eden Obscura!

■Eden Obscura is a reimagining of the award-winning game PixelJunk Eden for mobile devices, and is once again helmed by international multimedia artist Baiyon, previously featured in the magazine Game Developer as one of 50 people to watch in the games industry.

■Winner at Busan Indie Connect Festival 2017

================================

“Eden” is a collective world formed from an untold number of gardens. You control the “Grimps,” residents of this world, and travel through these gardens collecting “Spectra,” the source of life.

As you run, jump, and spin on silk string, the gardens grow around you providing new paths to adventure and you’ll find yourself deep in a realm of cutting-edge sound and amazing visuals.

This game is so great. Its nostalgia of the other games made by Q. Pixel junk eden is one of our favorite games ever made, so a smart phone port makes us very happy. Keep up the good work!

We fell in love with the original PixelJunk Eden on our PlayStation 3 years ago. We could easily spend hours playing it. We were delighted when it came to iPhone/iPad. Much of the game play is the same, with some good adaptations to the touch-screen format. Great replayability. Addicting. Enjoy!

Ideo: what were you thinking? The only thing less forgivable then the obvious fact that this grimps powers werent playtestedis the inconceivable notion that they WERE playtestedand that someone thought they were a good idea.

Even better then the original im shook thanks devs amazing game please consider adding 2player mode like the psn original cheers.

The previous bugs seem to have all been fixed by the most recent updates. This is a superb game – very well crafted. We used to play this on PS3 and it has been adapted here for iOS, quite nicely. We would even say that some depth has been added to the game by the introduction of the various spices that provide special temporary upgrades and special abilities.

We tried running the app offline (with cellular data turned off and without WiFi connection) and the game wont start up. Do we have to have cellular data on the entire time we play this game?

Good game really fun except the frog levels they piss us off. You cant find the thing no matter how far you go or how many portals you go through. So maybe change where its easier to find them. We havent passed one. So thats pretty annoying.

Unfortunately, we played and loved the console version of this game. We feel this game retains all the great things about the original while injecting the primary play of the game with a new element – stress. Being able to fail gardens ruins the chill atmosphere created by the brilliant art, sound design, and gameplay. On the console, we didnt mind the timer because we could always come back and find the spectra, whereas in this game you have 5 tries and thats all you get. You can continue playing in a different mode, but playing through levels we have failed is completely unsatisfying. The play mechanics are awesome, the sound is awesome, the visuals are awesome, the structure of the game ruins the mood so excellently established by everything else.

What a way to drain battery for no reason. It adds little to the game, make it possible to turn it off. Otherwise, could be a great game but not going to continue with the camera active.

The last couple of updates have caused the game to freeze up-Ive actually spent hours & hours playing but now if we can even get past the initial screen, it crashes in the new garden. 5 stars when it is working!

We usually dont write reviews but we had to for this game. We love it! The art work is awesome.

Wonderful game.. Different. Im surprised there are not more reviews. Not sure about the camera being essential. We play with the camera and without it. One of our tablets has a cover that can block the camera and it has no problems.

We enjoyed this game on the ps3, and was glad to see it for mobile. Its true to our memory of that game, which is great. Whats not so great is the requirement to access the camera, which isnt strictly necessary for playability. Just display a random background instead of some pseudo psychedelic variation of the camera view. Suggest the camera feature, but leave it an option. Im dinging two stars for this alone. Also, the post-level resource tally takes much too long. Let us skip that please. Id like to see some harder levels too. We dont use any of the spice enhancements because the goal is readily found without needing them. More options for endless play too. Maybe track more stats to allow personal improvement.

Love the game but cant play since the update.

We are so engulfed in this game. It too, us a minute to figure out what was going on but when we did we fell in love. The music is a major bonus. To be honest we ca t believe its free. Thank you developers.

Everything PixelJunk makes is great. This title is no exception. Really fun to play and explore. Definitely pick this one up if youre into creative design and lush music. We hope they bring more of their titles to iOS. Specifically Monsters and Shooter.

We used to play these on PS3 a while back. Happy to see it made it to iOS.

Im not usually into app gaming too much, but we were curious ever since we heard PixelJunk was bringing Eden to mobile. Id never played the original Eden, but we didnt have to to completely love and learn this game. Super addicting, AMAZING soundtrack, and the visuals and physics are stellar. Even the boot-up screen makes the app feel more refined and professional than most other apps we’ve played, and that refinement never ends. Great job, and cant wait for Monsters on mobile ;)

Please, PLEASE BRING MONSTERS TO iOS. :)

Smart and appealingly quirky casual action-puzzle. Music is nice as well.

Its a nice idea, but its way to buffery on our phone. All our other apps work fast and fine, but for some reason this one lags too much. Other than that, the design concept is amazing, and we wouldnt have deleted it if not for the lagging controls.

The camera is not even remotely useful to the game, and makes us think its collecting camera data. Also, you dont need to collect data from our phone and send it back to you for enhancing the experience of your game or something. Stay out of our phone. Get rid of the data collecting and the mandatory camera usage and maybe Ill be okay with this game- the controls and the gameplay are incredibly weird and hard to handle, there isnt a UI on anything that would show you, for instance, how many jumps you had left or whatever Im doing when the character spins and sparkles for a bit, then stops. The colors seem to overdo it a bit, and we would definitely darken your landscape to add contrast to the background- there was a couple of times when we tried to land on something that wasnt there. It just looks like a ploy to collect data – make something just playable and recognizable enough for mobile to make it addicting to people so you can violate their privacy. We’ve deleted this game, and we will not be downloading it again until we see vast improvements.

To do the tutorial you have to go to one of the garden entrances, but none of them are available. Why?
