Exception is a game about AI programming. During the game, the player assists the units to defeat their enemies in the virtual world. However, the player needs to control the units by programming instead of controlling them directly.
This is a challenging single-player game. In each level, the player needs to think about the strategy and program the units accordingly. The player needs to program different types of units to beat the level.
In a virtual world where everything operates steadily under an omnipotent system, you will play the role of an operator named 159, who oversees and maintains the system.

We had the game before and got up to level ten and decided we wanted to try again. But level nine is different now and seems impossible to beat. What happened?
If you have at least a basic knowledge of "Logic" give this a try.
The game is great, dont get us wrong. Our only problem is that on level 15 we physically cannot get past it. Even if we use the solution given. What we think is the problem is that the enemy drone of the same type has a slightly bigger range than your drone. That might be the whole problem but we dont know. It would be great if that got fixed.
This game is so fun!!! We downloaded it today and cant stop playing! We love how mind-boggling the levels are.
This game is really fun since we wanted to learn some basic coding skills and we LOVE robots, but we thought that there should be a level creator mode or sandbox mode so you can make your own levels for other people to play and a mode to play other peoples levels and also a co-op mode for you to play with friends. Thank you.

We’re enjoying it. We’re only on level 7 and it is currently very easy but steadily getting harder so we’ll update the review once we’ve gotten a little further. The only negative thing we have to say about it is that the game won’t allow us to listen to Pandora while playing the game. Please fix this!!!!

Its pretty good, when you start off in the game the instructions arent quite clear, but when you get it its fun to play! Great game.
This game could be so much more simple- the concepts about programming its teaching are very basic, yet the game gives you confusing levels to try and teach and explain them to you, further confusing you. Also, the game itself is basic… There are 10 levels and all you really do is move to a tile and shoot. Even if you want to get a basic understanding of programming, you shouldnt play this. It will just confuse you.
Apple put this on its front page to advertise it. You get into the game and it has a good UI and feed back, good mechanics, nice game. Once you get to level 10, however, you will then need to either watch an advertisement (a video about something else) in order to continue and play the level, or buy the whole game. So effectively they(apple) will advertise this cash cow on their front page, try to get you hooked, and then spring the trap. If they wanted you to actually play the game they wouldve shown the full game version, but no. What we now have is a demo that you get suckered into downloading and after learning the mechanics you can give them money to have fun or waste time watching ads. No thanks, thats a 1 Star from us for wasting our time, storage, and being deceptive.
By lvl 7 (10 min in) we already understand how its also teaching us coding and its a blast to play.
Love the game. Stuck on level 21 for the moment. If we could sync progress between our iPhone and iPad, it would be 5 stars.
Why did you have to make the game cost money like your game couldve done good if you made it free we were having fun then you ruined it . Im very sorry for being rude before we were in a bad mood . Also we dont hate adds people that complain about them dont understand that its your only way of making money also you dont have to make a free version sorry.

Encountered an issue, reported it and the devs were quick to respond and fixed the issue.
You cant assign a new path when the conditions are passed, but you can stop the agent. However, it never mentions the priority of different movements. Also, it never says new paths cannot be assigned when the former one isnt done. It cant be tolerated ,especially for a logic game.
This game is super fun and addicting. Watching a level complete itself is quite satisfying. We like how each level builds off the last one so you really feel like youve learned how each bot works together. Some levels feel like the only way to beat them is to randomly push buttons until it works. Still stuck on level 27. The struggle is real. Would recommend if you like brain teasers and puzzles. P.S. It would be nice to have a hint button for the later levels. Doesnt have to give the whole solution but just enough to push players in the right direction. Thanks, AJC.

Horrible guidance, confusing manual, no obvious way to create loops; overall, just bad.
Its a really good game but the levels are pretty hard as you go on but its probably our favorite coding game and it just a really good game.
Any chance they will be a second game in the works?
If your looking to program AI for fun on your phone this should be your choice.
This game is both challenging in fun. Some of the levels can be really hard, but others can be moderately challenging. We think level 20 was the hardest level so far, and if anyone is stuck on a level we advise taking a break and trying it again later. We think the developers should add a feature where you can program your bots to go directly to another bot, like how they can go to waypoints. This might already be a function, and we might not have unblocked it yet, and if it is, then nvm. Great game, thanks for reading.
Its a fun app, and ALL the levels are solvable. Really gets the gears in your brain turning. Note that this app requires extreme patience, as the levels get longer and longer as you go, and the difficulty gets harder. This app runs very smoothly on our iPad.
On level 12, youre supposed to use distance detectors to move your bot to point C. It should be as simple as two When [distance] do [move to the other point]… But the robot keeps moving toward the same point youre checking your distance (which shouldnt happen since youre moving away from the point when youve detected the particular distance). Soooo… We needed to send out a signal so that this dumb robot would actually move away and keep moving. But its not just this needless complication thats the problem (a few other times it wasnt clear exactly what the limits of your commands are); the game feels kind of barebones and doesnt have anything else beside the existing levels. Its neat, but needs more.
Neat graphics and intuitive UI. We were disappointed that the programming style was such a departure from traditional procedural languages. More a puzzle game than a programming game.
First review written for an app. We have got to say that this app is beautiful. We just got it today and Im on level 8. One of the best learn-to-code apps we have seen.

This game is a fun take on intro programming theory. It in no way teaches you how to program AI, BUT that wasnt the point, nor do the developers make that assertion. What this game does do is gets you in a brain-space to help you think about how programming is done. If-Then loops, prioritisation, and theory crafting. A great game for most out there who are clueless but interested in programming, especially kids!
Wow been playing this game for two days and somehow since we have a degree in electronic technician its clear to us how coding is a simplified way to binary.

Actually a dang good game. This game is simple to learn but also challenging. Not another senseless game without meaning. You learn to plan out your moves and improves your logic skills.

Free version – Interesting take on gameplayplan and execute. Dont worry about runtime boredom, as theres a "speed up" button to help quicken the suspense of, "Did we get it right? A+ for the developers.
The second we saw this app, we wanted to download it, so we got it and waited till it came out. We had some trouble and level ten but we beat it. This is a really fun game that can test you IQ. Too bad we couldnt buy the rest of the game. Maybe let us get at least a couple more free stages so we dont only get a single hard stage for those who cant buy the rest of the game. This game is awesome and keep up the good work. Also another thing, we finished levels 1-10, the free ones, in a day, so another reason for us to get more free levels. Thanks for reading!! And to those who think that the game is too easy, well… Youre wrong about that ill tell you. The level starting on level 12 are really challenging and boots up your mind. Teaches kids instruction sequences and decision tree.
We may be new to programming, but we believe even highly advanced people would like this. IMO its very thorough.
Hey there we have a big problem we cant restore the thing that lets u unlock full game and after trying to beat 11 we want to restore it cause its to hard and Im only 8 so we do not know that much about programming and stuff like that and if any of u guys know how to return the thing please tell meh.
Its not really programming, but it does teach you how to think logically like a programmer with simple if/then commands our big issue is we were under the impression the game is free, its only kind of free, with most levels locked behind a paywall, or optionally watching a video every time you want to play. Pass.
Your support page linking from the app store errors, so we are contacting you this way. We have observed inconsistent execution of the bots. The same program might be successful once and fail the next time. The bots dont execute their behaviors deterministically (ie the exact same way every time). Perhaps there is some randomness involved? This is common in AI but in a teaching game we wouldnt expect it to come into play until later and then be explicitly explained. If we are using a function that adds two numbers, and thats what it says it does. We expect the result to always be the sum of those two numbers, and not occasionally return something off by one or the occasional zero. Actually on second thought this kind of behavior could be detrimental in learning about coding and how computers work.
We had a lot of fun until our robots became unresponsive to commands…
This is a very good app. Before we got this app we played the LEGO fix the factory app. It was ok, we blew right through it. It seemed a little boring, right, forward, up, left, down….. Then we found the Exception app. Still somewhat basic and easy enough for those starting out with programming apps but with a added level of challenge. Great app, guys!!!
Im not sure how else to contact the devs. This game is really good, but we think it would be cool if there was a sandbox mode where you could put in enemies and your own units on different maps and there could be pre-coded enemies or you can code them so you can make your own levels kinda or just mess around and see what you can do.
Like the simplicity of this title, so is the game. Functions are too basic to fully understand, theres no values to set like timing and range in the early stages of the game and we don’t even think we have the patience to go to the end levels and buy the rest. This game is not for coding or programming, its just a fancy and tedious puzzle game. Until this game actually gets full in depth support, we do not recommend. If your going into coding, please dont use these games. Use Scratch or Minecraft Java for basic fun and a side hobby.
