Player Experience Highlights

Community Insight:

We remember these back in the day. We loved ours. Only had a couple but went through them endlessly. When we got older and had kids, bought a couple for our son. He tried them but lost interest quick as it just didnt hold his attention like modern gaming. That was about 10 years ago. Fast forward to present day. Cleaning out his nightstand and found the Citadel of Chaos. Picked up and started playing/reading again. Still loved it. Looking for an easy/modern Adventure sheet thinking that surely with todays tech there has got to be something automated out there. Did a web search, found a few things, then searched the App Store.WOW.JACKPOT!!! Our friends.let us tell you, if you ever had ANY small inkling with these books in the past then this app is a no brainer. If you were even remotely curious about these books then there is no better way to get started than this app. If you are a new comer looking for an old school narrative adventure. Then we are delighted to tell youyour search is over. This app has done this experience perfect. PERFECT!!! It is so awesome. Old school feel with all the convenience of modern tech. Bravo to the developers, they couldnt have done no better. So many cool little touches like atmospheric background music and effects to smooth old school dice combat with a modern touch. Works perfectly. Adventure sheet is lit!! So Awesome! Bookmarks to save your progress. They thought of everything!! Comes with one free adventure, and the books of the past can be purchased for 2.99 a piece! A steal!!! Bought Citadel of Chaos straight away and started our adventure. The developer has successfully created the experience we had as when we first played as a kid. So awesome. Thank you for that. Friendsdo not hesitate, do not doubt. Download now and let the adventure begin.

We grew up on these books. Being able to play them on mobile is a blast of nostalgia. And the extra features like maps and collectible artwork are a great extra touch.

The way the books feel in the app is pure nostalgia. They practically drip the 80s. They are, in short, awesome. However, the updates are very slow. As of writing this, it has been over a year since the last update was made and the last books added. We dont know if this means that these are all the books were going to get, or if things are just going slowly, but be aware of this. Either way, the app is worth getting.

No matter what we do, the app will not let us purchase new game books. Whenever we try, we get an error telling us to connect to the internet first. Im on our home wireless which makes no sense.

Im giving this two stasrrs because of the nice startup screen. Unfortunately thats what all Ive seen of it so far. The screen comes up and theres appropriate background sounds but nothing happens- if tappes, swioed, aind drugged every spot on the screen and we got nowhere. We waited an hour for the app to load but but it didnt. It might be good, but we certainly wouldnt know.

This would have more stars if we constantly wasnt kicked out of the game. When Im rolling the dice for a battle it kicks us out and we cant keep going. If this is fixed the game would be so much more better.

Theres an unfortunate crash thats possible any time the dice are rolled on screen. The game saves often, but it does make it a bit frustrating to get through.

Great app. Please add "demons of the deep", it was our favorite.

We would like more soundtrack options. Maybe one that fits into bustling markets or cities would be good, or something with ocean sounds for seafaring portions. Overall though Im loving this app.

We absolutely love this app! The books are all well priced and work really well and smoothly with the built in dice roller.

A great way to relive some of Livingstones books. The fast rolling makes the fights quick and satisfying.

The interface makes playing these games a joy. They could be a bit of a chore to play back in the day with pen and paper. Our only hope is that some day the remaining books are added as theyre mostly out of print and very difficult to find at reasonable prices.

Im 46 and reading these takes us back to the happiest part of our childhood. Thank you.

The free adventure book is a lot of fun. Unfortunately the free story doesnt make use of adventure books nonlinear structure instead choosing to obfuscate the only viable linear path. We didnt buy any of the other books. We recommend the free download, but we wouldnt suggest paying for the others. Making use of the bookmarks feature will save a lot of repeats so we recommend using it.

Been waiting for over 5 minutes for it to load.

If you've grown up in the 80's with this series and you don't have the books anymore, this will be a no brainer. Even if you have the books, the transition to the app is flawless with added benefits. The ease of the adventure sheet digitally rendered is great. The combat system is enhanced with the re-roll ability and bookmarking is great too. We really hope the developers are able to add more titles (and maybe even the Sorcery set.

For the pen and paper fan who needs a little fix on a plane ride or train. We have this on PC too and its better with the music up and larger screen space. We were born too late into the 80s to have experienced this ourselves but am a player of many tabletops and pen/paper games and this is plain good fun. The art is awesome.

We realize that Death Trap Dungeon is one of the most creative and immersive choose your pathrole-playing games that focuses on text driven adventure. Once we realized the intricacies of how this game works, we realized that this is a game that we can enjoy for a long period of time and still be able to keep in our library for a future years. We tried the video adventure of Death Trap Dungeon, which is what hooked us into this game series. It is very evident that there is a lot of depth in this storyline and that it is worth looking into for anyone who likes classic DND.

Just found this today. While we never played these series when we were a kid we did read a lot of Lone Wolf. Question to developer, are the rest of the books going to be made available.

Very good a little confusing at times but it was definitly worth the 0 dollars.

Growing up, we were a big fan of the original Fighting Fantasy series. This brought back a lot of memories, and we cant wait to introduce it to our son. Love that its true to the original text and illustrations, and the added music is a nice touch. Hoping more of the series is added soon, especially Scorpion Swamp and Starship Traveller.

A throwback to our youth, really loved it. Needed to save quite a bit, but quite fulfilling.

We just discovered this app yesterday. We played the actual books when was a kid, we loved them! We would play them for hours! We still have our collection. To say we were excited to find the app would be a gross understatement. This is a dream come true! We only hope that the developers keep this going and continue to add more books. This is now our absolute favorite app on our phone. To whomever had the idea to do this we give a sincere thank you. Hopefully they can get this on our apple watch too! We just can't say enough great things about this game. We'll just leave it with one last word, OUTFREAKINGSTANDING.

Too cool, Im only on the first book, but Im having a lot of fun. If you like old school nerdy fun, this is the game for you.

Great fun, well-written adventures, but boy can it be frustrating at times. Its a guessing game until you memorize the correct path…or google it. Use the bookmarks our friends…we wasnt for 90% of our playthroughs of BloodBones and we regret it. So much easier with the bookmarks.

This is a wonderful implementation of a classic format, the adventure book. Growing up we ran an alternative series of titles rather than fighting fantasy, so this is our first opportunity to encounter these. They are wonderful, with excellent implementation. Before warned, all the books actually quite challenging, but that is part of the fun.

Awesome nostalgic fun! Highly recommended.

This is a great rendition of the original books. Our daughters and we love to read them together. Its worth buying each for $2.98.

A while ago we bought several of the game books when they were stand alone apps but there is no option to receive credit for these in this app. Seems like a slight oversight to us.

Bloodbones was fun but difficult. Ended up looking up how to win. City of Thieves on the other hand was fun but easy. Not worth 4 bucks.

We love the stories and the puzzles, overall amazing. Although it would be better if there was more than only 1 free story.

Took a looong time to actually beat the first adventure, but it was fun going down the various paths. Wish the other stories were not quite so expensive, but Im sure they are worth the price.

We love it. It streamlines and simplifies the process of playing these game books without sacrificing any of the original content or even illustrations. Our only complaint is that there simply arent enough books to choose from. Im not saying they should have all 60+ titles available right off the bat but for ages now theres been a grand total of… 10. Just give us more books to read.

We managed to get the text large enough to play comfortably, but pictures cant be zoomed and that can be a big deal in parts of books. Good app though, worth trying the first free book.

We only wish there were more content.

Good but not as good as the original FF games on the iOS. Unfortunately those no longer work on iPad. Would like to see more and drop the price to 1.99.

Im disappointed that we already bought 4 of these individually but since those apps arent upgraded to the new OS if we want to play them we need to buy them again in this app.

We loved the FF books, this is a good digital recreation.

Great app, hope to eventually have all of the gamebooks here.

Almost unusable due to constant exits to iphone homepage on ios 11.4. Cant recommend downloading or buying books using in app purchase.

This is a great way to get your kids to read over the summer and strike up great conversations at the dinner table. Love it.

Love to see this old classic reimagined in digital format! Obsessively trying to collect all the artwork :-)! Such gorgeous, intelligent stories.

We loved these books as a kid and wished we had held on to them. Now they are back and better than ever with a mapping system, bookmarks, and dice combat system. Totally worth it. Our only wish is for the Talisman of Death to be available.

We played all of these in the 80s and early 90s. Its a nostalgic blast to get to go back and play these all over again. The app is great in that it collects them all in one place so you have a library of classic game books at your fingertips.

Love having an app that has all the books in one place. Interface is smooth and user friendly. Also very easy to save your place so you can come right back if you made a bad turn. Really enjoying reliving these books from our youth. Any chance the Lone Wolf Book series could be incorporated into this in the future.

We clicked on a book (the free one that comes with it) and a pop up said Update or Later we clicked Update and the screen just stayed there. We clicked Later and the same thing happened. So now it is just sitting there. Some reviews say this app is fantastic and Id love to try it but it doesnt seem ready to go right now.

We downloaded the app and paid for Warlock of Firetop Mountain. The app immediately asked if we wanted to update the book (which doesnt make any sense if youre downloading it for the first time). We clicked Update and there was no visual indicator that anything had happened. Instead of some kind of progress indicator that youd expect, the dialog box remains on the screen. You can still press Update (or the Later button) as well as things beneath the dialog. Very sloppy interface design. Because we had no indication that the app was doing anything, we had to force quit. Ive tried the same thing a few times now with no positive result. Currently unhappy that Ive paid $4 for a book we cant download.

We try to access thing books and it just sits there. Hit preview for images and they are all blank. Close app and try again and nothing works again. Useless, cant even try to get one of the books opened up.

Any update and run trial game. Interested in playing but cant check it out. Makes us nervous for pay content/stability. IPhone 6s.

We want to like it. We were a big fan of the books when we were a kid. As of right now the first free book Bloodbones is just chock full of bugs. Its unplayable. The have a feature to report bugs. Guess what? Its bugged. Ill change our review once the bugs are fixed.
