Hear from the Players – Frontline: Road to Moscow Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Frontline: Road to Moscow:

We love hex based TBS games, but Im not all that good at them. Difficulty ramps up nicely resulting in a good learning curve. Graphics and sound are great. Cant comment as to historical accuracy; Im just playing for fun, and fun it is!

There is such a demand for games like this and yet the developers stuck with the old worn out hex games instead of enhancing this. We are asking the developer to fix the problems, expand the game. This developer has several so-so games because they keep using the engine they use for the civil war games, Romans, Hannibal and others which are all us to games. This engine is better and smoother. The previous game based on d-day could also be updated and included. This could easily be a 5 star. PREVIOUS REVIEW This is a great game but could use a few more units. Also, there is at least 3 scenarios where you meet all three objectives but it says you missed one. Finally, we have played all three campaigns and we could use a fourth or the ability to play as the Allies. Too bad the developer has pretty much walked away from this engine but still worth a purchase. We knocked it down to 4 stars because the developer has abandoned it and it now has several glitches. Still enjoyable but they are foolish for not fixing and expanding it.

We gave it a three star review because missions after the first get very hard, and in our opinion they get too hard after the first.

But, very high quality popcorn! Diverting.

Very simple ai; but still fun. We wish matrix would hurry up and release more serious squad based games.

It is a fun and addictive war game – it is very good to kill some time when commuting.

Intuitive game play, strategy and tactics only, no wasting time building an empire, challenging enough to keep you interested and nice graphics.

The AI is weak, even at the toughest setting.

It gets real buggy on Act III including impossible situations where you cannot get a complete victory in two battles.

We played through the 12 Scenarios. Its very much like Panzer General or Panzer Corps which we really enjoy. We didnt encounter any significant bugs, which was nice… And there is a real blitzkrieg element that makes the battles compelling. A solid 4 star game, except that we paid for this game and Im annoyed to see in game purchase offers on our battle map. Save it for the credits or leave it out. We didnt pay for in-game marketing!

OK game, but not as sophisticated as the panzer general series or other turn based games where, for instance specific units can last throughout the campaign, gaining experience and upgrades. There is also no defensive artillery support or fighter escort defense to speak of. Its a pretty basic game, but still fun.

So we finished this in 3 hours and now they are asking for additional $$$ to continue the game. Don’t waste your money – very easy to win and really not much strategy.

This is a really good game with great graphics, then it has problems. The battle for Lenningrad does not allow you to use reinforcements or even pull up the pull-up. Since there is no manual or tutorial you have no way of knowing where the problem is or if it’s supposed to do that?

We save 1 star ratings for apps that are broken. This one needs a much better tutorial and better balancing of German and Soviet forces.

Sometimes units will not respond to supply, attack or movement orders. When you are about to assault and a critical unit fails for no reason it is extremely frustrating. We can usually compensate, but we think there are just some "dead" hexes, whereby the option to supply shows a cost, but there is no way to interact with the unit. Anyway, makes some scenarios impossible to play. Don’t buy the expansions, they’re the buggiest.

There was a small bug that didn’t allow people to see unit strength. One would assume it’s an easy fix. It’s been a year since they fixed it. Don’t buy. Company doesn’t care about supporting games.

The game does not let you attack Moscow ! Even if you win all the battles there is no attacking Moscow.

Great price. Solid game engine. Best War-game title for us since Battle Academy. No multiplayer option, no undo move, and no sequence of next unit. Other than that we are very happy with this title. Yes, we have purchased other titles from shenendoah studios and hunted cow studios.

Long time fan of Close Combat since the original we found this on the current makers website. It has great graphics, fun for the iPhone, not too complicated and fairly sort scenarios which are good for an iPhone compared to a computer game where it’s easier to sit for 2-3 hours in from of a big 27" monitor… Very impressed at how well this is put together for the handheld device.

You have to watch your units and control for ammo running out. Played some more. Dude the flanking maneuvers and surrender maneuvers are genius! We’re basically loading up on cheap expendable units and flanking or surrounding powerful units to get them to surrender. Cheap and cheesy but it works!

A fun game well worth the modest price tag.

A ton of fun, light enough for a quick play but detailed enough to keep you immersed. We’ll done! Looking forward to more iPhone games from these guys.

Must have for someone who loves strategy games.

Fun way to kill extra time. Easy to use and learn, with nuanced tactics that really pay off (eg, surround difficult targets with cheap Soldiers to eliminate the target through surrender). Great graphics and sound effects. Would be nice to fight as the Soviets once in a while. Otherwise, our favorite "army guy" game so far.

This is a great game for when we don’t have a lot of time. We wish some of the fonts were larger though. Sounds are great, animation is good, just a fun little game. IPad 4, iOS 7.

Overall a good game. AI could be a little smarter , the Leningrad scenario the supply/reinforcement button doesn’t work, and the belgograd scenario one of the soviet units is hidden off map so one of the conditions Can never be met. Oh, and saved games don’t save all the captures so they need to be retaken.

It’s a really nice, fun, challenging game. It would be nice if you could bring your units along. It also needs more variety. It wears out too quickly for such a nice system. Update:I enjoy playing this game. It’s fun. I’d like random campaigns with core units that develop as you go along.

Scenarios are fun, but a few issues affect the game. The first makes the game stop at Leningrad, you can’t buy units or supply them as that part of the interface won’t respond. The other seems to be a misalignment Og the hex grid with touch controls. Instead of selecting a unit sometime you get the options menu.

This is a fun little game for the price.

This is a fun game, especially for someone like us who likes ww2 and history. Unfortunetaly the UI is REALLY small, and there are a few glitches in the current version, but that has not kept us from thouroughly enjoying the game.

The only reason that we don’t play Panzer Corps now is that it is an iPad-only title and IS NOT AVAILABLE ON MAC. Neither is Commander: The Great War for some reason… This title, though pretty good in its own right, just feels slightly overpriced. And, for the record, we paid $20 for Panzer Corps and X-COM, respectively, and have bought several iOS titles in the $10-20 range. $5 total for this one would have been fair. That’s just the way we feel. So there. As it stands, we probably won’t buy the expansions at $2 apiece. We got Shenandoah’s Road to Moscow for $3 just a few weeks ago (after paying the full price for its predecessor, Battle of the Bulge). Some might argue that RtM is worth a great deal more than $3 and I’d be hard-pressed to disagree. We would refute the same argument for this title being worth more, though. Couple of questions for Ian at Slitherine: Will PC and C:TGW ever make it to Macs? Will they be enabled on next-gen iPhones with larger screens, eg, 4.7 and 5.5 inches? PS, the text within RtM’s chyrons is really, really small on the iPhone’s screen. Might want to take a look at that, devs.

Please fix Leningrad supply issue. We noticed no updates in a few months. It’s game that’s strategy but yet not boring. Fix that and the easy swipe turn button and 5 stars you get.

The UI is not entirely intuitive we’re often hitting the menu when reaching for units. Also no re supply or reinforcements on leniningrad. But the game itself is pretty engaging and entertaining.

Enjoyed initially but it honestly got boring and monotonous.

Great game but unexpected cut off is aggravating.

It could be an excellent game. The game quits in the middle. It quits just before completion . It is frustrating . You spend hours to get through the campaign and it’s all wasted. Should refund money.

It worked fine until Leningrad. Then the reinforcement points froze.

First of all, it’s not an awful game, but do not expect it to be Siltherine quality like Panzer Corps. The more we played it, the more disappointed we felt. We would call the current build "intern quality". For the designer, the bottom line is you need to test your game before release. Bugs: 1. The attack value vs artillery is always 0 in the purchase bar. The health of Pak 43 is empty. Goliath icon title is heavy truck. Sometimes can not show the damage of Wespe (20 shown as 2). 2. Very hard to check the unit data near top screen (data shows off screen); 3. The save/load is having issue. All captured towns will become not captured again. You could go back and get the bonus again; 4. In one game, a Panther ran straight off the screen and never came back. And the game hung up there to wait it to come back. 5. There is no way to select an alternative path. Your units will run through a minefield even though there is a perfect path with the same length; 6. Several victory conditions can not be triggered. Like capturing all cities in Kursk. We saw someone asked about this bug in their forum months ago but is still not fixed; 7. Sometimes, the move range shows the unit can go to some location but when you click, nothing happens. Others: 1. There is no way to turn on the hex; 2. AI is not smart. It will use machine gun to attack a tank instead of infantry. The game feels repetitive. Prepare artillery, bunk down the tanks, and wait the enemy to come; 3. The clouds!!! Worst idea ever!!! If you send your troops in the cloud, good luck. In one scenario, one truck was under the cloud. We never noticed it until it was destroyed. Another game, a railgun was hidden under the cloud. We just did not get it why they design something causing nothing but trouble.

This game really has a lot going for it – it is fun to play and addictive. But – it has so many significant programming issues that it is virtually unplayable. Scenarios will suddenly end before play is finished – frustrating when you’ve spent an hour or more fighting for a victory. Accidentally brush the end of turn button and it jumps to the AIs turn. (there should be a dialog asking if you really are finished with your turn -standard practice in computer games). The edge of the screen is unreadable but units are often here but out of reach. The AI could be much more clever, but the main point is that the programming is so sloppy that the game is unplayable. You never know when it will quit on you. We purchased all of the scenarios so Im out about $10. Not the end of the world, but this game should not be for sale until these huge bugs are fixed. There in no excuse for this being released in this condition.

Unit strength numbers do not appear on iOS 8.2 or later, making the game unplayable until it is fixed. Given that the issue was reported 6 months ago, don’t hold your breath on a fix either. Shame on the debs for ignoring this.

The game is only 12 shoooooort missions. Took less than three hours to complete the entire game. Then we had to pay more to keep going….. Really slithering we thought much higher of you.

Wow! We love strategy war games… And once again Slitherine gets it right! Our only complaint. There’s no more new battles to fight. We were a huge fan of Battle Academy and now Road to Moscow. Thank you for bringing hours of fun entertainment to our spare moments. Please bring out more scenarios.

Best strategy game we’ve found so for mobile. Reminds us of the old Panzer General games, good mix of strategy and easy gameplay for this platform.

An excellent and innovative wargame. Absorbing, accessible with complexity arising from simple interactions. Immersive history and fun. Our top wargame on iPhone.

Good game just wish they had a restart option.

Really enjoyable light war game. Controls are easy and the game looks great. There’s a surprising amount of variety in the units which all have different stats and abilities. For this price it’s a must have.
