Dive into Grand Academy for Villains

Congratulations! We are delighted to welcome you to the Grand Academy for Future Villains, the world’s finest evil preparatory school, where unimaginable power begins with a world-class education!

"Grand Academy for Future Villains" is a hilarious 200,000-word interactive novel by Katherine Nehring, where your choices control the story. It’s entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Looking for a career as an evil overlord? A mad scientist? A megavillain, a wicked witch, a final boss? You’re not going to get there without hard work, dedication, and thorough education. In the space between worlds, between genres, beyond time and space itself, the Grand Academy for Future Villains trains the bad guys that every good story needs.

You, our hero–or our villain, rather–will arrive at the Academy ready to learn, but you’ll quickly discover that there’s so much more to villain school than getting good grades. As you navigate the school year, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Secure an internship with a prestigious heartless corporation or megalomaniacal dictator
  • Seduce a hero to the dark side (Attention students: do NOT allow yourself to be seduced by the forces of good!)
  • Put in the extra hours at the lab to become an actual monster.
  • Pledge your family’s secret society and become worthy of–or defy–the grand destiny your family has mapped out for you.
  • Pay off your student loans (in the blood of your enemies, if necessary).
  • Find true love, deadly rivalry, or both at the same time with your fellow students.
  • Save your alma mater, take it over, betray it, or drop out in a blaze of glory.

Our alumni have gone on to dominate worlds, conquer galaxies, break hearts, and succumb to the creeping darkness in their souls. The choices that you make at our school will determine whether you join their illustrious company.

Please make the sequel! It was as such a delight. Im not a gamer, but this one kept our attention and amused us to no end. Bravo to Katherine and the team at Choice of Games.

We really like this but it said to put in an email to save for the next episode. Is that ever gonna come out or not?

This was our first Choice of Games game and it definitely got us interested in trying more. It was longer and had more action and choice than we were expecting. The writing and world-building was top-notch. We loved all the little asides with villain tropes and the class descriptions, as well! We had a great time playing as a Thriller Freshman and we really hope there is a Sophomore year in the works!

The story was fun. All in all, we enjoyed it. What we would LOVE, Choice of Games, is for checkpoint saves so we wouldn’t have to restart the whole book. PLEASE make this a thing. Cheat codes or tips for better stats at the end of a full play through would be freaking fantastic also, but we feel the saves are really important.

This game has definite promise, but there were a couple game-breaking bugs that seriously detracted from enjoying the game (there’s a loop wherein we basically ended up having to do the same action five times that should’ve been only doable once before the story continued, for instance.) Overall the game has promise aside from those immersion-breaking programming bugs (if they are indeed bugs and not just narrative railroading to get your stats where the programming requires it to be in order to continue the narrative) and a couple other story points that stretched the suspension of disbelief.

There are a lot of Choice of games that have a nice self contained narrative while still setting up for an overarching story. This is not one of them. We felt like our choices were having an effect on gameplay so we were excited to see how the story played out but it just abruptly stopped with no pay off or conclusion. Very disappointing. Our recommendation would be to avoid this until the sequels come out.

Only covers freshman year with a very unfulfilled ending. Can’t recommend.

We really enjoyed this. In fact the only thing we can think to add is that it was over too quickly. We’ll have to play again and see if we change our responses whether the narrative will last longer.

As always, this lived up to us expectations immediately. We can’t wait for more! Except, might we request a new feature? We’re aware that the majority of CoG’s games are kid-friendly, and the ones that aren’t are because of explicit cursing and excessive gore. However, since our brain won’t stop nagging us about it, would ya’ll perhaps create a section dedicated to the older community, that gives you the choice whether you want to go into explicit detail about what goes down in bed? It’s just a little thing that we think a few buddies of ours would appreciate because they’re dirty-minded (and so am I) and wow we feel like this is going to come off as the strangest and prevented request ever. Oh well.

Hands down an awesome adventure! The only problem we have with it is that the transitions can be a bit jarring in a couple places. Other than that, a fun time guaranteed!

We’re a huge fan of Choice of Games to begin with, and we feel Grand Academy really makes the most of the program; it’s enjoyable, well-written, and the kind of game we envision myself revisiting again and again down the road. We particularly enjoyed that we’re able to choose our Genre as a villain; while it doesn’t affect much besides aesthetics, that’s really about what you can expect from Genre-driven fiction anyway. Also we would die for Xi if that was an option.

We love this story, it turns the classic hero story into a villain story. Our only real issue is a possible bug towards the end of the story, it seems to just loop through the same section until it comes to the climax and you’re just thrown into it. Hope an update fixes it soon.
