Find out what gamers are saying about Heavy Metal Thunder – The Interactive SciFi Gamebook:

This game is so good. Unbelievably good. You’re doing yourself a disservice by not playing it already.

We’ve come back to this game/story and we still believe its the best thing we’ve ever downloaded, even after about 2-3 years. An unbelievable game, play with quality headphones and at night for near perfect immersion.

Hienlein-esqe themes/prose, glimmers of witty banter, and the occasional smashing of the fourth wall make this a riveting and entertaining ‘choose your own adventure.’ The writing can edge on immature at times and some portions of the script would have benefited from editing but thanks to the author’s talent for story telling you will find yourself forgetting any such faults. This game is however not for cyoa noobs. An introductory to title needs extensive tutorials and information regarding point investment. When approaching this game you need to know how ‘skills’ are used in games like this and must have already come to the realization that arbitrary choices or a shotgun method of character development will result in failure and frustration. If you have a background in tabletop RPGs and/or other cyoa books then you will get your money’s worth, otherwise you might end up with a broken iphone.

As a huge fan of pen and paper RPG game, I’d like to say wow and thank you. It’s superbly written, the art is striking and wonderfully fitting, we love the simple and effective dice combat system and think the replay value is massive. Please keep it up.

Not only is the writing great, and the gameplay satisfying enough, but the dev is also very cooperative and fixes any reported bugs within a short period of time. Great!

Or an old DOS adventure game… Writing is fantastic, music is great atmosphere, and it’s like having a DM dictate game to you (except you only get certain choices). We wish there were choices for dialogue (would involve more writing), and some alternative to the dice, because rolling skill checks on 2d6 is irritating. Same for combat. Very easy to roll bad and die. Still amazing, and we’re only on the third chapter. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an adventure game but finding A Dark Room too tedious or difficult :-)

This is a very good game. It’s kind of similar to the choose your own adventure books except it is superior in every way. We have trouble playing for short amounts of time.

It was somewhat hard to get into but once we got past the intro and somewhat into the first chapter it seemed to get far more interesting. The way the story unfolds with help of your own choices blends really well, far better than most other choice driven stories we’ve played. It’s a fun game/story and it’s quite compelling to keep playing.

This is a very fun and cool app. The writing is very good and at times laugh out load funny. Give it a chance and you will be amused for few hours. Can’t recommend it enough.

We only made it through chapter 1 so far but its fun.

Loved it! Hours of playtime and now there’s a sequel!

It has come to a point where our space suit is over the usual limit and we cannot select an option related to our suit and so we are stuck at a point in the story.

This game has a decent amount of content going for it. Good and somewhat engaging writing along with acceptable illustrations. The stupid "dice" game has us rail-roaded down certain paths because we lose EVERY time, right in the beginning where stat-play shouldn’t be such a factor. Why offer a choice? Plus you have to slog through all the crap (more fixed dice games) to get to where you were after death, only to get predictably unreasonably rolls, even after investing in the skills that SHOULD give you a leg up. Tiresome and monotonously repetitively boring. Suppose we’ll give it a few more goes… :/ this has potential but the dice are rigged… Update: five more losses in a row, using the only skills we added points too. Story is good but random/ continuous losing streaks call for an uninstall.

We almost never review a game but this one deserves it.

Can you make a hundred more of games like this?

We have played many types of the choose you own adventure genera, and this is, by far, the best one yet.

Story: 9/10 Fun: 8/10 Graphics: 9/10 ;) Music: we had it on mute the whole game accidentally If this was a straight up novel or short story it would be considered a very well written one. Engaging, descriptive, immersive, and humorous when needed. The only gripe we have is that we only died once, in the very beginning when we accidentally pressed a choice we did not mean. Other than that it was actually a walk in the park. Of course there were tension points but never a time when we had any struggle or difficulty. We thoroughly enjoyed the game and the story and loved that it was an interactive choose your own adventure, we just wish we had been giving more ways to fail or that we wasn’t always prepared for the task at hand. Maybe we chose all the right options. Maybe we were able to pick up all the hidden clues. Either way we wish there had been a bit more danger.

We enjoyed the crap out of this!

This has an amazing story with an interesting combat system where roles of the dice will decide what happens in the fight.

So good that we cant wait for the next book.

We’re going to be honest is don’t really play text adventure games because the choice ones got boring. We figured we would try this out and we were sooo into it. It was short for us ( great reader) and we would be more than happy to pay for the 2nd chapter. Though we would prefer it to be free. And we very highly recommend this for those bored or looking for a different kind of text adventure.

We’re appalled that this is free, we would pay good money for this if we knew it was this good.

Gameplay was rich and clear, choices were unobvious but meaningful, and the production quality was awesome. We can’t wait for the next part.

Awesome game we love the story and the writing even the play however our choices have little bearing on if we want to be a good guy in the game most choices still lead you to killing the person we wanted to save. We would like to see that our choices matter and effect who the character is.

Which is unusual for these games.

The could benefit from some editing / review, but it’s still a really fun adventure. The ambient music sets the mood and the mix of RPG elements with Choose-your-own-adventure style reading makes for a great game that is easily replayable. If you think you might like this game then you definitely will!

We love this, not sure to call it a game or book but it’s amazing. We can’t wait til the next one is out.

This is a mix between an RPG and an interactive book. We would say it is the closest to playing a real RPG by yourself. It involves lot of reading since it’s like a book. We ‘m having lots of fun playing it.

We love to see more books like this. We find myself thoroughly enjoying this game.

Reads like an excellent sci-fi novel-but with the added fun of a choose your own choose-your-own-adventure-storyline – for grown-ups!

This game is amazing. The only thing we don’t like is that there isn’t more of it.

For an old guy who used to enjoy Apple II+ games that were these type of turn here, go down the hall type adventures, this is outstanding. Good plot and very well done.

And we have completed chapter 1. What an interesting way of reading a story. Or was it playing a game ? Regardless, we have survived thus far and the void awaits. Or should we go back and do things differently ? Maybe we were too fixated on our own survival to… To hell with that! We think we will … What was that ? There was a noise coming fr..<unretrievable data>

It is a great game, very fun and in depth, makes you think about each choice, and how that might end up Never rush through anything in this game, think each choice out Overall a great game.

Though not completed yet we are thoroughly enjoying this intuitive blend of "choose your ending", strategy, planning, and chance with what seems like a strong replay ability! We plan on writing a full review when we’re done. Good times!

As far as interactive fiction goes, this certainly isn’t the best. That said, it is ridiculous fun. The story is about as deep as your average B-movie, made-for-TV sci-fi flick and also chock full of everything that makes those movies so much fun to watch. … And yes, there’s lots of reading. It’s interactive fiction, not story-fied game.

100% immersion. We became the main character for the time we read/played this game book. We loved the feeling of isolation in space.

It’s our first interactive novel and we love it.

Great game. We did have to go back a chapter to change choices a couple of times, but that barely impacts the game. You can get caught up again very quickly.

We have played many of the old text games and this one is well done indeed. Great story, fun music, and interesting choices. But sandwich coming. Some of the dialog is not in line with the choices. For example, when you deny one choice, there is a really nasty reply you give that is uncharacteristic to how you are playing. Also, bug STUCK with no blue choices in the ship sniper part as our suit is undamaged and with the armor, we are at 4/3 on suit so this bug stops our progress. Still very interesting to this part.

One of the best interactive fiction titles on iOS . Waiting for the next episode and book!

This is an amazing creation, we love it! We dont normally choose games books or movies that involve space but this app changes our mind we cant put it down! Great job.

This game should serve as an example of what it takes to make not a good game, not a great game, but an absolute work of both art and immersion, a whole world pouring its mysteries and lore within us. This is by far the best game on the App Store. It tops "A dark room", and it tops 90% of all the other "immersive" games out there. And not only this, but with only sheer environmental music and good narrative this guys managed to create a game so rich it can’t be put down, thing some "high-end" graphic games can’t achieve despite their "innovative" mechanics. This game has earned a place in our heart just like old SNES classics and hard core games. Bravo.

Excellent, modern choose-your-own Sci Fi story. Has soIid replay-ability :) The Dev has done an outstanding job with this- the writing/story is engaging, and system and app work extremely well (5th gen iPod touch w/ latest iOS). Various actions, items, and a random roll system means we’ll be playing this quite a few times.

Fantastic amazing new gameplay. This brings back memories of reading all those choose your own adventure books back in the day. Expect this is so much cooler!!! Sound effects and RPGS gameplay is awesome. We can see this being a new wave of game genre! Excited!

Completed the second chapter. Really awesome so far. Can’t say more, need to get back to playing.

Reminds us of those books that you had to make decisions and it told you what page to go based on what you chooses!!! Love it!

Very good game with amazing story telling.
