User Reviews on Highwater

This is a great little game. Its not long, which we think is fine. The writing is great, with plenty of literary and pop culture references that made us chuckle, even if some went over our head. The radio station with original soundtrack was also excellent. The graphics arent super high-res but are decent. The turn-based battles are basically puzzles – the key is to find the right tactics, and although with a few exceptions they arent that hard we enjoyed them trying to win them in the fewest turns. We were pleasantly surprised that unlike all the other Netflix games we’ve played we found no bugs, and the game was stable – it didnt crash on us once. Some other reviewers have complained about bugs, so maybe theyve all been fixed or maybe we were lucky!

Its becoming a recurring theme with Netflix offered mobile games. We enjoy everything about this game, but we reached a bug that doesnt allow us to progress in the game. We would love to be able to finish this game and have it fixed.

We had a great few hours playing through Highwater. The graphics are good, the sound design is probably the best we’ve seen, and the combat and exploration are fun and streamlined. We found the difficulty level to be well balanced: easy enough for newcomers to the genre, just hard enough for XCOM veterans to be challenged if they want to do a perfect run, and no penalties either way. Suggestion to devs: the very beginning is a bit off-putting, we almost gave it up within the first five minutes and we would have missed out on a great game! In particular: the first long stretch of driving is boring, maybe start with an action sequence. Also, the white compass dots not disappearing after clearing up an area makes it seem like something was missed. Finally, on the fighting: Nikos is deadweight after the early game, maybe make him more of a true support. And Josephines blood lust is super fun to play, but maybe have more obstacles so she cant too easily eviscerate 5 enemies in one turn.

This game was so much fun. The story is fantastic! And the music? Wow. We really want some of those songs so we can relisten. The ending literally left us with goosebumps. For a mobile game? This is next level. Highly recommend!!!! And heres to hoping for some sort of sequel! For the devs: There were a few bugs we encountered: 1) the green zones that extract your characters once you reach them? They didnt extract our characters. Made some battles challenging. 2) Any booster dealing with increased health did not increase the health. 3) The generator battle, the enemy bugs out and it gets stuck on the enemys turn. A couple things we would love to see is: 1) a way to view each persons attack descriptions while not in battle. 2) a way to change/apply boosters in battle. Id right before (like with a warning or continue/confirm question type screen)

Why does every adventure game have to have violence? Seriously, someone please come up with an adventure game that does not have violence and we will tell everyone about it. Also the navigation of the boat was not very user friendly.

Its a pretty good game but theres always room for improvement.

Cool game! It was pretty enjoyable, although that music that plays on the radio really had us cringing.

Overall we were enjoying this game but there are some major game design flaws. For one if you accidentally beach yourself on an island that you cant interact with there is zero way to fix it besides refreshing the game. The biggest flaw we’ve found is if you happen to take away weapons or boosters from your players there is no way to give them weapons while in mid fight which means that if they have zero weapons and arent a character that can punch then the character becomes completely useless in a fight and there is no way to fix it!!! We are pretty much stuck on the fighting sequence with the Vikings because one of our characters has zero weapons so hes just useless and there is no going back because it is the start of a chapter so the only way for us to fix this would be to completely start over from the chapter before and its such a long chapter that we really dont want to do that and honestly we shouldnt have to!! We love story heavy games but if you make it frustrating and slow to play because of bad game design the story isnt going to keep us going! We honestly hope there is a way for this to be fixed because then we might come back to the game but it seriously needs some work on the game design aspects. It feels like the game was made without any sort of play testing and making sure certain actions wouldnt break the game.

Gladly the bugs that many other reviews have expressed seem to be worked out: we couldnt get beached, the compass-like door was helpful, and we didnt notice any bugs myself. The boating seemed accurate and we had to drive differently than a car as a result – that was mostly fun but there were too many straight drives with nothing to see and no plot development. The next thing to do was always clear and so were hidden things so we wasnt endlessly searching the waterways. Sadly the moral drift (pun intended) had apparently affected this post-apocalyptic earth in every way and the radio itself was at times explicit. Some of this is understandable and necessary for the game, but not all of it. It was also a bummer to have items be stuck equipped to party members that left the party. We would change that.

No more crashes or issues with saving progress! Finally got to play and it is a great story with fun mechanics.

The game was quick to play through and had a short list of characters. The art style was cool, and the battle system was fun. This isnt a complaint, but the battles were easy, and through the whole game we only used one booster. If you can strategize well, youll win every battle with relative ease (Josephine is way OP if you use her correctly). We enjoyed playing this game, but definitely feel like there could have been a lot more to itlike it should be a bigger game but was condensed greatly.

Everywhere we go, it says turn around. Turn around and go where exactly? The little thing in the bottom right that we guess is supposed to give you direction is useless.

Play the game for 15sec, then watch 2min of characters talking that doesnt drive the game forward, chug in a boat for 2min, repeat. This game is nonsense.

After downloading the app, we opened it to the first screen that says Highwater with a character on a boat. Cant go anywhere or do anything after that.

High waters is an adventure game that follows a teenager living in a post-apocalyptic world, trying to get a better life for himself. Him and some friends must navigate and battle their way to a utopia, fighting and befriending people for and against the utopia theyre trying to get to along the way. High waters is a great game with a fun story and interesting battle mechanics, and we only have two problems with it 1) Although the combat in the game requires a good amount of strategy and is fun to play, its far too easy and it becomes less and less fun the more you play. Meeting new characters is great dont get us wrong, but we cant help but feel that the most challenging boss fight in the entire game is the viking one at the start. The skill caps for each character is low, and although each passive ability and skill that the characters possess are fun to use and work around, theres not much mixing and matching compared to other games that use the same battle format. 2) The story was compelling and intriguing at the start, but gosh did the ending let us down. Not only did it feel rushed, but there was no big reveal nor a heartwarming moment in sight up to a few flashes of scenes right at the end. We cant help but wish that there was a choice not to (spoiler) leave earth and choose to live instead of survive like many of the characters were telling us to do at the start. Plus, each character lacked the depth and connection we wanted to have with them. The story was fun, and the ending was unique, but thats all we can really say about it. We recommend getting this game if you already have Netflix, and dont let these problems deter you if youre interested in spending around 6 hours exploring this world. To all future players: have fun bloodlusting your way to the end of the game!

The game has a neat art style, very nice music, and smooth gameplay. The screenshot choice is really odd. Who is choosing the screenshots??

Great game and the story. Some of the side content could be minimized as at some of those points we wanted to leave the game. Overall excellent work team!

Was into the humbolt gardens and tabbed out to answer a text message, came back in and the game has restarted. No problem Ill just press continue, saw plenty of auto save signs Loaded it up and Im back at the wedding with George. Wtf. Okay, Ill try chapters, just started the gardens and we clicked that. Game wouldnt load Tried this 3 more times and it still wouldnt load. Tried the one before it, still wouldnt load Chose the 2nd chapter just to try that and it loaded almost instantly. Love the story, combat is like easy – mid difficulty but not too hard to punish you. But this crash / bug just ruins it for us. Edit: After witnessing a play thru for the story, Game is a solid 4/5 story banger. The HPR music and banter really humanizes the story and ties everything together well. Parts of it felt like it was like a little less polish here or there, but the story is riveting and powerful, we are a grown man experiencing sadness after finishing this and we hope it gets more attention from people. Its a beautiful story / adventure.

We want to love this game. Its beautifully drawn and the radio news/music is a fantastic addition. We would love to find out more of the story. However, we are now on our 4th attempt to play through this game because of all the bugs. This latest time, all of the chapters we had already played through saved but none would load. Had to go back to the train station for the 3rd time. Hopefully the kinks get worked out soon.

Seems like it could be a pleasant adventure but boat got stuck at the basketball court. Cant move forward. Deleting app. Of course netflix already grabbed our data so gets us to think maybe that was really the only point of this game to begin with?

Its buggy on our iPhone pro 14. Firstly, if you get into the boat when its docked it wont undock you and wont let you move, it will only rotate you. Thankfully the game saves when you get into the boat, so we were able to get around it by shutting down the app and opening the game again, and it becomes undocked so youre able to get to the next location. It was annoying but we were getting by. But THEN, after you deliver the sheep to the wedding, and the next quest to get batteries for the camera shows up, our character is immobile. The code for movement doesnt get reactivated. The game also doesnt get saved after the quest is given to you, so even if you close down the application like we did for the boat, theres no getting around it so we cant move forward in the game. Overall the game seems interesting and has a nice vibe to it, unfortunately theres just no way for us to continue since these bugs were accidentally overlooked. We would love to continue the story once the bugs get patched.
