The architectural notes are fun, and the recipes look terrific. Changing the landscape and details of the rooms is fun. With the two expansion packs there’s enough enough variety in games of solitaire to keep us playing every day. We love the sheep going back and forth, the squirrel, and what is that bird? Excellent work!
We were gifted the Sussex advent calendar, and we fell in love. We love the graphics, music, games, everything about it! We decided to get the Country cottage and bought the kitchen expansion. We were excited about it but very disappointed at the points limit. Also, we had over 1000 + points last night and today we only had 5 points. Why did they disappear? Its a little disappointing, since we were anxious to fix our kitchen. How do we get them back? We dont know if there are any puzzles in this app, but it would be great if there were.
The kitchen doesnt show the video for the daily reward. Its just a blank screen and we have to close the app. This makes us sad because we love this app. Fix it please!
We like playing mindless card games to wind down so its perfect for us. However, it is SUPER frustrating to finish the garden card game that takes a long time, only to have an error that we need to log in again appear instead of the game score/coins earned. Fortunately, our four year old daughter found the debug menu when she was decorating our house and managed to acquire about 3 million coins, so the loss doesnt bother us too much. But we still think its a flaw in the game design. Also it would be nice if it didnt seem to require a constant Wi-Fi connection. It would be a perfect airplane game otherwise. Finally, we wish it were possible to turn off the cat roomba in the kitchen. Its amusing the first few times but is tedious after a few weeks.
The app and expansion packs are all beautiful as are all JL graphics. We really hope the designers continue to update and add games and activities. We bought both expansion packs which are improving. Now that the JL English Garden is discontinued, we have a suggestionIve been using that every day for years just for the bird memory matching game (Pelmanism) which we love. We hope they add a memory game to the Country Cottage somewhere. Even the same one would do. The daily word scramble is good albeit repetitive. In the end, what shall we do with our 100,000+ points? Some people will like the kitchen Sudoku, but its not for everyone.
We agree with previous reviews that the app needs more ways to earn points. You can earn points by playing just 3 games, and though a developers response a year ago says there will be more.. There is still just 3. The ratio is off too; the number of points you earn for playing or winning a game is very low compared to the number of points you need to buy a decoration. In short, add more games (spider solitaire please!) and give them a higher payoff.
We have enjoyed the Jacque Lawson e-cards we have received from others over the last few years. Then we got the advent calendar as a gift this year and really loved it. So we thought Id give the country cottage a try. The free version was ok but we thought it was just so limited because it was free, so we bought the kitchen and garden additions. Nope. They are just as limited and quite frankly, pretty boring. The graphics are lovely, as you would expect, but there is nothing really to do – except a few repetitive games or choosing between a few choices of decorations. You cant move between the rooms or garden without getting out of each section of the game on the website. The games also can be glitchy and freeze while you are playing. Hopefully the developers will put a LOT more effort into improving this app.
We were gifted with the advent calendar, which was great, so thought Id try this. Its not worth it, even for free. You have to do all the mandatory improvements before you can customize anything, and when you finally get there the choices are very minimal, and dont have the flexibility of the advent calendar. You can pick the style of a piece of furniture, but cant change the color. This results very few choices that actually look good together, especially given the limited number of rugs to choose from. And the couch sitting off center, off the edge of the area rug, annoys us. The illustrations are beautiful, but earning 26 points from playing a game, and needing 300+ to buy an improvement that doesnt measure up, just isnt worth the time.
The solitaire game in garden area lagged and hesitates between clicks, so you cant go fast, you have to wait each click for it to catch up. Very irritating. Click a card .. Wait, click a card .. Wait, ? Whats the point? It also sends each card to every pile before where your building. Developer aimed to annoy. Best if you slide the cards yourself.
We were thrilled to spend time cleaning up our cottage, we played lots of games so we could really deck out the interior in style. We have over 1500 points waiting to gothen. Nothing. The app locked us out. Nothing happens when we tried to access the catalog. We tried deleting the app and downloading again but it just reinstalled what was saved on the Cloud. Deep sadness.:(
Been a fan for years, like so many others, but our experience with this app and the lack of real support has forever changed that. If you have any problems with this app or the paid add-one DONT expect any actual help or a refund. What you will get if you reach out to tech support is a constant carrousel of regurgitated suggestions. It doesnt matter what device youre using; PC or Mac, tablet or phone, Android or Apple, they will send you the series of fixes one at a time, each time you reach out to them. We sent a series of 6 emails, each one clarifying what our issue was and that we had exhausted all published suggested fixes, both online and in app, but they dribbled out the same published suggested fixes in snippets as a response, never actually addressing our questions. We would recommend avoiding Jacquie Lawson apps at all cost, theres absolutely zero responsibility.
Was excited to see this. Was only able to make changes the first day. Accumulated points but theres no option to do anything else. We check back every day. Even bought the garden expansion and it was the same thing. We reached out to customer support and heard nothing back. Very frustrated!
Repetitive, games you play to get points are boring. Have to play these games many times to gain just a few points . Hard to exit game .
There are only 3 different games, you need to play games in order to earn points to renovate your cottage. The cottage should have more games and more rooms to decorate.
We cant get into decorating mode even though all our fixes are done!! We still have a wrench that does nothing either inside or out of the cottage when we click it. This happens on the Windows version too! Dont waste your time on this one. Such a disappointment!

We downloaded this app months ago- we played the games and renovated the cottage over time- we added the garden package- it took a long time to earn the points needed to renovate the garden as we wanted everything and the points needed to earn items was very high- the points to renovate have now been adjusted so it doesnt take as long to renovate- the new kitchen addition has been a lot of fun- we were able to renovate all three kitchens with points we had saved up until the kitchen package was available- it was worth the wait- the videos each day were really fun- they can be rewatched in the activity calendar- it was really fun to have three kitchens to work on- if more packages are made and they are as fun as the kitchen package we are sure we will get them- the only thing we would change is the number of games- there needs to be a few more games or activities throughout each package to earn points- we have enjoyed the Christmas app that is made each year, the card app & the coloring book app- thank you Jacquie Lawson & staff for all of your efforts in all of you products!
We thought when we opened JL COTTAGE to send a card we thought we were clicking on her e-cards. So Im not interested in your cottage. If we delete the app does it also remove annual fee?
Love this game. Its beautiful, gentle and relaxing. Graphics are gorgeous. You play mini-games to earn points to clean up and decorate your cottage. We feel the points earning ability is paced just right. We also paid extra to download the garden expansion and very worth it in our opinion. Pro Tip: Make sure you have at least 200 game points available before you buy an expansion pack. We ran into a little bug since we had spent all our points before ordering the expansion pack. It was easy to earn more points in the cottage mini games then we were fine when we went into the garden expansion. Developers: Keep making great expansion packs & we will buy them. Would appreciate more catalog options in the future, ability to interact with pets, and things getting dirty again every so often so we can clean. The cleaning feature is relaxing.
We really enjoyed the first two portions of this game (the cottage and the garden). We had fun renovating and decorating them, and we love the word tile and solitaire game in the garden. However, the kitchen has been a bit of a letdown. We opened it today and saw that our videos were already done. They only lasted for 10 days and now theres nothing left to do in the app except play sudoku (which we prefer to do by hand) or match 3 (which we dont want to do). Kind of bummed. We preferred the format of the previous levels, and we prefer getting to do the renovations myself.
We have the app, but it only takes us to the garden & no way to get into the cottage & kitchen. Support on this seems to not exist. Lovely graphicsif only we could see them all. We did accidentally find the kitchen, but cant get back there. Not intuitive enough for it.
We have been a fan and subscriber to JL for many years. This free app exceeded our expectations. In a few afternoons we’ve managed to repair the cottage, exchange several of the furnishings and replace the siding. As others have noted, the graphics are first rate. The music (and nature sounds) are also quite lovely. Finally, we give thumbs up to the programming of Klondike solitaire, which our dear grandpa taught us to play. One can either drag and drop the cards (apparently a good brain workout) or click and select the next move to be made automatically. Many thanks, Jacquie Lawson! This is a simple, basic game. You can decorate your cottagea little. And you can play a few little games. But the game with the beads has given us hours of fun without the noise and lights of most games. We play an audiobook and play with no goal in mind. (Also, it gives the most points while youre decorating your cottage.)
Either the instructions for the games arent clear or the rewards are miniscule. We have to send a card a day to accumulate significant points because the rewards for playing the games are so small that Ill never finish. We finally finished cleaning up the cottage but will never try to decorate it! Its become boring and less satisfying and honestly a bit of a struggle. Game Over! Linda A.

Unlike others, we have played the three games and earned thousands of points. The cleanup was easy, and we dont mind earning points to buy new furniture, rugs, and paint. However, the catalogue offerings are VERY limiting. We’ve only had this app since last week and am getting bored with the lack of options.
This game, not so much. As others have mentioned it takes a significant amount of time to reach 500 on one of the games – youre given 24 hours and the point system appears to be too low. Love the cards but need to update this game.
We must agree with Harmony09 in previous review. We absolutely love Jacque Lawson and have been a member s almost since inception but the Country Cottage games are limited to only 3 and to purchase any new item for re-decoration is ridiculous! It takes forever to accumulate any points and is very discouraginghence, boring! Perhaps an adjustment in what items cost is in order.
We agree with Harmony 09. Have been a Jacquie Lawson fan for years but would like the app better if we could fix up the cottage more quickly. Game rewards should be much more generous or repairs much cheaper. Lovely graphics as always.
We have been a JL fan for many years and our friends enjoy the cards we send. So we were excited to find this game – until we tried it. The games are, to put it mildly, boring and it takes forever to get to the daily goal. Even then there isnt a big enough reward to do much to the cottage or grounds. Its Jacquie Lawson so of course the graphics are great! What else would you expect? We have purchased many of their advent calendars through the years because of great graphics. Plus, the games and crafts are a little more fun and the rewards are better. We love the decorating you can do on that app. This app needs a lot of work. The klondike solitaire is really hard. We’ve played solitaire for about 68 years now and we dont usually miss a play, but the cards are stacked against you in this game. We would like to see better rewards and the ability to fix up the cottage and grounds a little faster. We just dont have time every day to spend hours and hours trying to get just a small reward and do one thing to the cottage. We included this app in a Christmas card we sent to a friend we always buy the advent calendar for and she said she was enjoying it, but Ill bet she is also bored and discouraged by now.
We do love the premise of the gameto start with. However, the game needs to be developed further to keep player engaged. You can only play three mini games to earn points to continue in the game. There has to be something more to keep the player engaged in playingit gets repetitive fast. Are the graphics great? Yes, stunning, but that doesnt make us want to play beyond five minutes.
This app is like, so close. Beautiful graphics as always from JL, and the games are bright and vivid and big enough to see without our glasses. Music is also nice. The app works. Games work well for our iPad, no problems with loss of play. Redecorating works fine, too, with no loss. No advertisements. So all good. But this cottage redecorating app is not yet good enough to recommend or to buy another variation of the game. Recommendations: Give us more points for the games and make them more winnable. To spend time on solitaire and lose repeatedly is nuts, and then, when we finally win, to only earn meager points? Make the solitaire game more winnable with level options, easy to difficult and card dealing options, one or three. Award at least 25 points even if we lose, and at least 150 if we win. Or reduce cost of catalogue items. Charge less for the furniture and repairs. Redecorating: Allow us to move the furniture around and change the color of everything we have at minimal charge. The arrangement of furniture is not socially inviting. The chair is not beside the fire, nor looking out the window, nor facing the sofa. Its, like, facing away from everything and it cannot be moved. As it is, the remodel gets quickly slow and boring and the games get repetitive and frustrating. The redecorating options are just too few and too narrow. We like the idea of this cottage fun. We like JL cards and products. We rarely write reviews on apps, so this is actually a vote of confidence.
We love the advent calendar and was enjoying working on the cottage and the garden. When playing the jewel game, it black out and the points disappeared as did all the work on we did on the garden as well as some of the work on the cottage. If this can be resolved and we have to start from scratch, Im out. We agree with the others that there needs to be more points and in app purchases if they dont disappear in a glitch so work can be done without having to spend hours doing the same games over and over.
While it certainly has the characteristic charm of other Lawson products theres not much to encourage hanging around, with high point numbers needed to clean up the place and unwinable solitaire. Better off with a well shuffled deck old school style.
While the graphics, are lovely, the games are very hard, making it no fun to try and earn points.
Sent 2 weeks playing lame games to get enough coins to almost all the repairs. Opened the game the next day and over half of our repairs were missing. Started earning coins again and also contacted customer support. They had us log out and back in and it reset the game to be back to the tutorial and lost our expansion pack. So now we have lost everything and the tutorial didnt even pay us coins for doing it again. Luckily we had enough to get the games unlocked. Customer support after a week of back and forth offered to give us a refund. We send them our email account, they cant find us. We contact them back, tell them we can log in fine with that email for them to say, we see that email address in our system and how to log in. So they can find it when not offering a credit, but it seems to not be in the system when offering one. We really liked the idea of this game and the advent calendar, but customer support has runnier both for us. Not worth the money we paid for it.
This game provides very little incentive to progress. There are three rather unchallenging games one must play to earn rewards needed to progress. They quickly become exceedingly boring. Rewards are low and take forever to accumulate sufficiently to allow for progress.
We feel like we are sitting around playing stupid games to get enough points to clean up one or two tiny little things. So frustrated we are removing the app.
The graphics are great and the concept is interesting. However, in order to tidy the cottage you have to play games to earn points to pay for cleaning and repairs. There are only two games so far. You earn so few points while playing that it takes forever to have enough for a cleanup or repair. After a while it becomes boring. Hopefully, more games or opportunities to earn money will be added,

Our wife and we are huge fans of Jacque Lawson, but this misses the mark. We dont mind the idea of playing a game to earn points to clean up the cottage, but the payoff is bad. Two main problems. First off, the developer seems to think their fans have all the time in the world to play this. It takes way too long to earn the points to clean up one small thing. The point earnings need to be drastically improved. We dont get JL apps in order to grind away, we get them because we enjoy the music and graphics and playing the games a couple of times. Second problem is that the creative side is missing here. In other JL products, the Advent Calendar and the Garden, the philosophy and goal is that we get to be creative and decorate our own way. In this cottage, on the other hand, we grind to earn points so we can press a white dot to clean something up. This app seems to be made in a completely different philosophy than other JL products and we are not a fan of the change.
Gorgeous graphics, but only three mini-games, which are hard to win and consequently pay off a smattering of points just so you do all that to dust off a sofa. Disappointed! :-(
What a huge disappointment this app is after having played with the Advent Calendar for a month. Nothing about this app is fun. You have to play 50 boring games, of which you only have 3 choices, to get enough points to do one thing that takes all of 15 seconds. Then you start all over again. At this rate, Itll take a year to decorate one room. Less than one star if we could! We cant believe the same people who made the wonderful Advent Calendar thought this would be something to be proud of!

We had the cottage all cleaned up inside and out. This morning, it has defaulted to the original look. We realize games are a time-waster, but why should we start over?
Lovely artwork, amusing tasks but Much Too Cheap with the points. You have to play games to get more points to do more tasks but you get very few points for each game played. Only have a choice of three simple games. Must play over and over and over to get points. TOO STUPID!!! BORING BORING!!! Too bad. Great concept. But Cheap with the points. Need to make progress more possible for less time invested.
We did not buy the cottage in order to play card games or other board games! We just wanted to have fun looking at the decorations, change them, etc. A ridiculous number of points are required to change anything after you clear all the cobwebs. Why is that? Why do they want us to force playing the same games that we did not choose and that have nothing to do with decorating a cage? Good buy!
The games are enjoyable, but the progress even if winning the games is tedious in the extreme. One can only be bothered for so long! Good concept and graphics, poor execution of progress.
