Community Insight:
This is a fantastic app, well designed, sleek, and filled with great puzzles. We highly recommend it. A selfish request, is it possible to add a dark color scheme? We like doing these puzzles at night, and find the white color scheme a bit bright.
Well made, teaches you the game, beautiful, no ads, and doesnt track activity in other apps.
Great way to learn so that you can do them on paper. The possible options for column and row really help beginners. Using this to train for one day being able to do it without the assistance. To be clear, they are not hints, it just shows you all possible available combinations for the row and for the column which allows you to quickly produce all of the available options for that square.
We really love how this game is ad-free and the design is very beautiful. It makes it a pleasure to play! The hints feature has been very helpful when we are stuck and we havent seen anything like that before.
Perfect game. Except one the font color of the candidate numbers is so light, it's hard to see them when the cell is highlighted. Two thumbs up ! Great game.
LOVE LOVE LOVE that there are no ads and lots of puzzles. Only reason we gave it 4 stars rather than 5 is because we wish there was some additional functionality for something like a note pad so we could temporarily record combinations we were considering vs ones we definitely wanted to exclude.
The only problem is that the light blue color used is hard to see. It would be easier to use if a darker color.
Love this game. Just a quibble or 2. First, the font color of the candidate numbers is so light, its hard to see them when the cell is highlighted. Second, it would be nice to have an option for candidate numbers to automatically disappear when another cell entry eliminates them. Finally, we wish there was an undo button. Overall, though, great game.
It really, really suffers from not having a dedicated notes mode like most Kakuro apps. If we have a cell where 7 and 9 are pencilled in and we type 7, it fills the cell with 9. It means each time you want to fill in a square you have to check if there are any notes, and if so you have to delete them. It also means if you mistype a number you have to undo that manually before replacing it with the correct one. It makes it needlessly slow and frustrating to play, which is a shame because it otherwise seems like a great game.
We do like the simple clean layout. Some puzzles need the ability for the player to note the numbers that could appear in each square. Could you add a feature where the player can add the small potential numbers into a square. We have done a lot of Kakuro and the potential combinations can be very difficult. Its always fulfilling to be able to solve logically. But, the ones that you have to guess with trial and error are very difficult on an app unless you can see all the potential numbers for each square. We finished puzzle 1 fine, but puzzle 2 has so many possibilities that it would take hours of guessing to figure it out. We could do this with pencil and paper along with the app but that kind of defeats the purpose of using an app.
We dont get all these nice comments to be honest, dont get us wrong the idea of this game is SO interesting, but the gameplay is terrible, bigger puzzles are too small our eyes hurt after playing, the hint button only works if youve got everything right (which we clearly wouldnt need help if we could) and even when we follow the hints completely the numbers go wrong! Its so frustrating, and you wont know were you did wrong and the only solution is to reset the whole puzzle which youve put lots of time on it, we couldnt have any fun honestly.
Awesome game, great visuals. It would be better if you can add rotation skill to the app. For iPad Id like to play with longer side on bottom. And also itd be perfect if there is a undo function in case where you want to get back the point easily without you starting over especially for large puzzles.
We love everything about this app. The simplistic, clean layout is aesthetically pleasing. Operating the game is easy and functional. It is everything that we are looking for in a puzzle to calm our mind. At first, we thought some of the puzzles were unsolvable, it is both challenging and calming, at the same time. If there was a daily hint or something to get through the most difficult puzzles, we would gladly spend money on this app.
A very nice collection of right-sized puzzlesbig enough to be interesting, but not so big as to be tedious or hard to work on. The interface is clean, elegant, and mercifully free of gratuitous animations. If a square has more than one value then they are guesses (valid options), if just one value that is your answer. You can also double-click a number to make it the answer. We do wish it had undo, as it is easy to change the wrong square by accident. But for free we are not complaining. Our favorite of the Kakuro apps we tried (at any price).
Love this game. We play it before bed to fall asleep and a dark mode would be really nice. Would love an undo button as well. Thank you for this game.
When we first opened app we clicked not too open tutorial because we've played kakuro many times in different apps. But this app doesn't make it easy to figure out how to add notes in cells. Every times we chose a nugget it puts in the big number as if we know that number is the correct number in solving the puzzle. There is no way to go back to the tutorial.
Large amount of puzzles is great, especially with no ads. Only thing we would want changed is the way the game does notes, it would be much more helpful if the notes feature could be toggled on and off. The current notes feature is understandable, but not intuitive.
Is there a mistake? We have even copied the grid on to paper to try different combinations and it is unsolvable.
Super fun game, delightfully challenging, and a great app. Love the clean interface, and that there are no disruptive ads. We just wish there were undo/redo buttons!! Sometimes we mistakenly put in the wrong number, and Id love to be able to undo that and restore our pencil markings. Other than that, fantastic app.
Excellent implementation of a well-known game. All reasonable features are in it. And no ads.
We were looking for more puzzles to do and came across kakuro but so many apps cost too much or have endless commercials this one is just fantastic and perfectly challenging for us.
Easy to learn and use. Challenging and addictive.
The game has a ton of puzzles and is fun. We like most of the user interface but the color combinations make seeing notes and options really hard. Id like to see a higher contrast for notes against the background colors and maybe a dark mode.
We are obsessed with this game and play it every night and morning. We only wish we could see our fastest and average time for each difficulty level. Would totally bring this game to five stars.
Just wish there were sound effects and bgm or something. Also an undo button would be nice because sometimes we make a mistake and would like to just undo until we get back to before we made the mistake to save ourselves the hassle. Besides that this game introduced us to kakuro puzzles and it is our fav kind of puzzle to solve now lol. Id love to see our times recorded and compare them with our girlfriend and friends to see who can solve them faster or with fewest number of notes or something.
Ive gotten bored of regular sudoko so this is a very fun alternative especially since the rules are very different. We think the app could be improved by highlighting the noted numbers when you select a square with notes on it. Also the hint row: and column: indicators are very useful, but it would be more satisfying and easier on the eyes if the row: numbers started just above the column: numbers instead of a few characters to the left as they are now.
We wish there is an undo button.
Edit 4/9/2020: the developer responded that you can enter a number directly by double tapping. That makes playing this game much easier. Thank you. There is nothing actually wrong with this game, and if you are OK with the design decisions, then you will enjoy this. As for ourselves, we prefer the number pad laid out in a 3×3 grid rather than a straight line. The worst part of the design in our opinion is that you cant simply place the answer into any cell that already has pencil marks in it. You must first either clear the cell, or remove the unwanted pencil marks one by one. That feels wrong to us.
We love this app. The puzzles are very good and very challenging. The only thing we might request the developer to do is put the puzzle number into the puzzle while you are playing it. If we leave a puzzle partway through and have several hanging, we usually cant figure out which one we most recently left. Thanks.
This is an awesome free game with no ads! There are a couple wishes that would take it to the next level, but the game is great even without them! – syncing between devices or online so you dont lose your progress – times are recorded so you can see your fastest time on small, medium, or large.
Really like the UI design, very simple and beautiful! But we wish theres error checking… It becomes impossible to check by ourselves for large puzzle… We gave up a few puzzles because we cant figure out wherere our mistakes.
Would love to be able to go back to tutorial. Also, the ability to ask for help would make it more enjoyable for beginners. Thanks for a fun game.
This is indeed an impressive amount of puzzles. However, weird design choices make it difficult to play. – You can zoom in, but the numbers get blurrier. – The colors look pretty, but its very hard to read tiny light blue letters against a dark blue background when a square is selected. – You can enter multiple numbers in each square to keep track of options, but you have to know at least two possible numbers for a square for this to work. A single number stays big so you cant differentiate between a draft number and a final answer. Im getting eyestrain and a headache from peering at this app so we will have to move on. Too bad…we were excited about the number of puzzles, no ads, and variety of puzzle sizes.
The interface is too slow and the color palette is causing a lot of eye strain. The puzzles seem to be good in terms of difficulty but the UI makes it hard to focus. Kudos to the dev for putting this together but we'll be moving on. Thanks.
We play tons of puzzles (crosswords, sudokus, binary, you name it) but Ive yet to solve a single one of these. Maybe if we could get a hint through the app we could figure it out and start to improve, but so far its just discouraging. Even the small puzzles are too hard. Would have been better if there were easier levels to start off with and hints so people wouldnt get so stuck.
Every time. No way to play it. A shame as we used to enjoy it.
Ive never enjoyed playing kakuro so much.
We were annoyed when our app stopped working a couple of weeks ago, and we were hoping a new update would issue so we wouldnt have to delete and start over (we had completed over 500 puzzles), but we were jonesing for Kakuro and headed to the App Store for an alternative. This app was still the highest rated Kakuro app we havent finished yet. Darn! But then we saw there was an update around the time our app stopped working that removed the duplicate puzzles. We bit the bullet. We deleted and reinstalled the app. In addition to no more duplicates (which probably accounted for most of our 500+ completed puzzles anyway), there are now two larger puzzle sizes in addition to the original offering. We hadnt rated the app previously due to the duplicate issue and the fact that most of the other Kakuro apps dont do regular updates so Id rather have 17000+ duplicate puzzles than nothing at all, but we kudos to the developers for taking the time to fix the issue, even if it means we had to reset our stats.
Theres sooooooo many different puzzles.
Lots of FREE puzzles, No ADs, Good interface Enjoy.
Great, almost unlimited puzzles! Free and no ads.
This is a nice little app for doing small Kakuro puzzles but there is no variation in size or difficulty. Because of this, having 1000+ puzzles has no meaning as they are all so similar. Would be nice if the were larger puzzles you could scroll around on to get a larger sense of accomplishment. Also, finishing the last puzzle and then hitting Next Puzzle crashed our app.
The UI is nice and the app is smooth with its controls. But while there are 10,000+ puzzles we are more and more convinced there are only 20 different puzzles. After doing about 200 puzzles it seems like we have just memorized how to do 12 puzzles and every once in a while the app actually makes you think. It also stinks that the app doesnt remember where you left off and you have to scroll down hundreds of puzzles every time you open the app. Its ok but not that challenging.
We love how easy it is to add and remove numbers as you work through the puzzle.
This game is a great challenge and is beautifully designed. Love it.
Hands down the best kakuro app available. Great to have a game that functions well and doesnt have ads.
