Find out what gamers are saying about Last Colossus:

One of our favorite games. Its a storyline game for phones thats actually good. Only issue is that if you die you have to restart everything, but you do keep your upgrades which makes it easier next time.

We love this game. Thank you Game Stew!

Fun game, worth the cost of admission.

Its a good game, we wish it was a little more to do( side mission rewards or more customizable) but fun time killer!

Fun moments, but gets repetitive quickly. Not the Game Stews best offering.

Is dah bestest ruhboot induh word.

Its a great game! We made a few purchases to send some extra support. We like the fact that you keep your upgrades when you die. We wish you would make a second game! Also a resource doubler purchase would be great. Id buy it. Thank you for a fun game!

Pretty good, classic and satisfied our mecha cravings.

Gets a little grindy to get the upgrades but fun.

We dont like writing reviews but they keep asking for one…

This game has a super nostalgic vibe despite the fact that we’ve never played anything like it. Its super addicting once you get the hang of it. It looks very simplistic, but it has an almost magical way of grasping your imagination. Its fast-paced while also somewhat tactical. In that way it mimics what you would imagine piloting a mech is like. We cant get enough of this game. Game Stew did it again.

A bit slow paced but still fun!

Strongly recommend. Can get slightly repetitive, but thats the nature of games in this style.

This developer understands what works on iOS.

Its fun. Definitely worth the money.

We like the idea behind this game and it’s homage to Giant Robo, Gigantor and Mazinger but the game has one flaw. It sometimes tries to track invisible objects causing the game to seize up. Then we have to reboot our phone to get out of the lock up. This is a big problem please fix it. Since the update fixed the crash issue this game is much, much better. We really recommend it.

We’ve enjoyed all of the Game Stews games up to this point and this one doesnt let you down. Ill give our take on all the best parts first; Having purchased and played we think six titles now, it goes without saying that the GS team obviously knows their crowd and the genres from which they draw their scenarios. One innovation that we appreciate is that they have no problem mixing and matching thematic elements; a little cyberpunk here, a little D&D there, a little Mario here, a little starship combat there, etc… Plenty of people would tell you that its just limited skill that causes this, but after all this time, Rodan, Rin, and Miguel just having a truckload of fun without constraining themselves by a game having to go like this or like that. For us, the result after working through several of their games is that they are having fun. By playing fast and loose with the traditional conventions theyve crafted a free-flowing romp through all the known worlds, resulting in the creation of a world actually very much their own. In that same vein, their relaxed experimentation imparts and equally light, whimsical but ultimately unified spirit to their games. This is reflected in the writing art and gameplay which share more than a few winks to players and tongue in cheek humorous moments. Dont be fooled by the simple, retro style and retro graphics. Rodan is pretty masterful at disguising his ability to clearly communicate a visual story, even while disguising the image as primitive, 8-bit imagery. It takes a lot of skill to pack storytelling into limited color, minimal, pixelated stills images, or super limited 5 or 6 frame animations. Like we said, dont be fooled though: check out some of the art from Devil Shard to Get a sense of just how much artistic horse power there is under the hood. They do a great job of showing, just enough. (My personal request to the team: may you please point us to examples of art that you create when youre not constraining yourselves?) Gameplay wise, there is admittedly a lot of repetition and grinding in lower levels if you want to get ahead in the game but again, GS is not looking to invent a whole new game system. Instead they do a great job of combining gameplay elements from different games that millions of people enjoy And come out with something naturally familiar, but then again very much its own thing. And Im going to stop at here for now, but when it comes to sound, GS also does a great job creating atmosphere with background effects and music which at first doesnt at first sound like theres much there but, as it is with the art, turns out that keeping it minimal is an effective example of we could do more, but were choosing to give just basics and let the players own minds fill in the rest. Its all good. Support this team – they dont charge much per game at all and they give you plenty!

Dont forget to press the ping button to activate the radar!

Best music yet for this publisher.

Give this game a shot if you are into old school ACT from the 80s to the early 90s.

This really hits on some gameboy color era nostalgia!

We really like the game. It reminds us of old mecha srpg on famicom and snes. The challenge is great and the story is surprisingly good. Im a fan of your studio now. Keep doing what youre doing.

An amazing use of a simple interface.

Its fun to play but we are having trouble with a in app purchase that we have not received…

Its ok to kill few mins but kind of repetitive.

Real talk, we came to play this game pure because the 70s japanese styled robot on the cover. Tho we just played the first two chapter, but we ve see so many flaws disappointed us. Not only battling, all contents lacks variety. The battle, simply do not need strategy at all. There was a raider, but this stuff only was used in displaying the amount of enemy and buildings( and we can not even tell what the hell the building belonged with, enemies or allies?) The battle is pure solo, so the rest of enemies wont affect the environment at all. All we do is fight enemy one by one( the rest of them was watching or somewhat?, and their positions staying same?) That totally waste the concept of raider, even if you developers wiped out the raider, the gameplay would not change a lot. And the solo part part is simply repeating, all diff we see is how the accurate rate change. NO STRATEGY And the public feeling, we have no idea what it is. Even we did not bing hurt or attacking buildings in the battle, the pub feeling is still worst, u are kidding us? Or what is the real meaning of the pub feeling, does it affects the gameplay even little? Maybe you guys would release colossus2 some day. So you add more contents in this game, that will be wonderful.

But fun graphics an nice details. Im only on level 3 but there have been no real need for in app purchases. Yay!

It would be great if there were some instructions on how to improve your public relations. Other than that the game is great once you understand the controls.

Very fun and easy to get into.

Very fun. The story isnt the most in depth. We really enjoy the game style and play.

There are two things that could be better. Tutorial leaves still a bit frustrated and by the end of the day you still guess all the way. Not a killer let down, but there is SOME tutorial in there! Second is it is a little bit repetitive and some small animations that are impossible to skip are turning from repetitive to a bit annoying. Otherwise it is a great game with interesting strategy, fun gameplay, a bit of tense moments when you do get emotional, graphics and sound create nice mood with minimum of tools and draw surprisingly existing world. There is air behind the screen in this one, as it was in really old games of similar looks. It could also be updated to support iPhone X taller screen, at least with color or something, without system assisted black borders.

The game is fun and good time killer but there are some minor problems with translation and limited animations but still worth the money.

We played for 15 minutes, got completely bored with the repetition and lack of variety, and frustrated with the mechanics. So much potential. The whole scan, aim, lock mechanic makes no sense. Why can’t we see the enemies when we look at them without scanning first? The camera view is basically pointless, and the whole process just gives you a remote chance to attack between their attacks, as you always get to return fire anyway. There is exactly ONE animation per attack type. And the arm gun requires you to remove your hand, really?! The whole mechanic needs more work. This feels like a week’s worth of playing with Flash to make a game. We know, because we do that. Dissapointed, and hoping against hope for a deeper version. (Added a star for dev response).

We love the game and the whole approach. But give us a break on the animation speed. Make a meter where we can speed it way up. Thanks. Then 5 stars.

The 3500 armor has bug. It’s only promote 500 armor! Please fix it. Tks.

At best its what the title says. A time passer. Nothn really to keep us coming back to the game but boredom. Very simple and lack of any variety overall.

The Last Colossus is sort of messy, poorly written, lite-RPG nonsense. We couldnt really recommend this game but we did play it for an awfully long time just to see where the poorly-translated typo-laden story was struggling to take itself. Miguel Vidaure attempts to communicate some kind of Day the Earth Stood Still type Sci-Fi parable. The game places you as the mech pilot hatchet man for an ancient alien civilization punishing humanitys military because of their decision to use ancient alien tech for weapons. We think. The story was confusing to us. The ancient alien race that is attempting to eradicate humanity is already dying of a virus by the time the player shows up. Im not really sure why the player goes along with it or why you build a companionship with the other merch pilot halfway through. Id honestly like to talk to Miguel about this. We think the story was intriguing and had potential, its the main reason we stuck through our first play through, we just, for whatever reason, couldnt understand it. Theres a few bizarre design decisions that we can barely describe. Very early on, our Colossus became very overpowered. Maybe its because of our decision to destroy the optional civilian centers for the bonus experience points, which we guess was itself trying to form some kind of meta-narrative about discipline and reservation, despite of and in exchange for infinite power. This decision to murder innocents changed the end of the game. Which could have been a neat Dishonored-esque moral choice but it was instead framed as, the humans didnt understand the sacrifices of the war rather than any kind of responsibility being put on the player. Because of how overpowered our mech was, gameplay was very dull. With the exception of the last two fights, we were never worried about losing or concerning myself with using anything other than the basic laser and melee attacks while intermittently healing myself. That being said, Rodan killed it with the pixel art. Very beautiful job here. We loved the small touch of the electricity shocking through the Energy gauge and the design of the Owl Mech.

The novelty of the battle mechanics quickly wears off as youre tasked with pummeling the same enemies, the same way, over and over again. Also, there doesnt seem to be any way to turn the games music off. If Im going to play something this mindless, Id like to at least listen to our own music while doing it.

It had some potential but the graphics are basically on par with an old school gameboy, which we found initially interesting but then after a while very limiting. And its just not a fun game to play Im afraid. Feels like a half done beta version without much point.

First off its a game you have to pay for and it still has microtransactions. The fights are bs, we were fighting a jet missed all three shots and hit a building. Healing doesnt fully heal your mech but uses up all your resources. Basically not worth the time.

We spent $4.99 and did not get the 75000 resources. Support is also not easy. Still dont know how to get whats owed. Ill update this rating once this is handled.

This game is yet another representative of the pay to play genre.

Edited: Decided to try purchasing an in game resource pack for $9.99 to get 175000 resources…. We did NOT get the resources despite the fact iTunes confirmed the purchase! >:( This is the second time this has happened. The first time iTunes refunded our purchase months ago. We decided to try again today (with full WiFi connection), and STILL cant get the resources!!! Thought youd have fixed this issue by now. Because of this we will be demanding a refund from iTunes… Again. >:( The Last Colossus looks and plays like a lost Game Boy game from Nintendo. But sadly not one of their better ones. While the game is alright, it gets repetitive both in terms of missions and animations. The story too is a bit cliche and we were able to pick up the twist that happens after the first few missions right in the opening dialogue. Overall, there is some fun elements here, but it needs further polish and refinement. Otherwise, a decent effort worth the initial price tag.
