Hear from the Players – Life of a Wizard Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Life of a Wizard:

We love this game. There are so many options that you can choose early in the game that affect your choices later on that it gives the game great replay value. There are a few suggestions Id make (BEWARE OF SPOILERS BELOW). 1. Id add more achievements, especially for more niche accomplishments (end game with maximum possible fame, end game with maximum possible peace/army power, win while only having friends/followers who are gnomes, etc) 2. If the player fails at something because a given stat is too low (ie the collective rating of the party when they face the dragon), telling them what the required value is diminishes the replay value (it especially de-incentivizes options that give them a crystal ball). 3. When healing the headmaster of the academy, the option to use the players troll blood is visible regardless of the race of the player. 4. We dont k ow if this was intentional, but the Diplomacy is super easy to max out as it gets increased even for choices that are only tangentially related to diplomacy.

Great game, good replay-ability. We dont think it needs music at all, we would probably just mute it or ignore it. We mean you can literally just play your own, but no text based game we’ve ever played has had music anyway. Just good story, good fantasy genre, and good fun.

Fun to play through a bunch of times to get the different achievements.

The simple writing style makes it easy to understand and the stats are relatively easy to grasp. Also incorporates some nice curve balls where you sometimes just have to use logic instead of pure stat based decisions. Overall, the high replay ability and simple style of the story boded really well with us. If youre someone looking for extravagant writing and big words we would not recommend this. However, if youre looking for simplicity and a nice story with high replay ability, then this is one of the best.

Its a cool game with interesting choices, though its not easy to maneuver. We wish there was a rewind button, because there were several times we had misclicked. The game doesnt last very long, and visually its not very pleasing. We wish we had read more into the game before buying it. It also would help if there was music. It was soundless gameplay, and the end of it was the furthest from fun. Buy this if you dont care about wasting your money for maybe half an hour of gameplay. Dont buy this if you realize the same (or a better) effect could be achieved from finding a dungeons and dragons campaign to join.

Totally great game. Nuff said!

Totally rad game its very exciting and a lot of things you got to do its more on the gamey side but thats why we loved it our first play trough we become a drop out wizard from the academy and making myself a lonely necromancer that eventually conquer the world the other play through we successfully graduate made the best party possible become a legendary wizard who give rise to the kingdom golden age this game is pure gold people at least try it before judging this as a book this is a game.

It was amazing!!!! The choices were so creative and we thought the status set-up was genius!!! We hope that they make a Berserker or Warrior version to this cause we would buy the **** out of it!! Like not the same story but a Berserker on a quest to find out what his/her purpose is in his/her existence and has a awesome power to boot!!! Personally we feel that would make some serious cash!!! We give this a 10 out of 10!!!

Immersive and very choice based; an excellent example of what this genre should provide.

This is one game we will never regret buying. We loved playing and discovering all the different out comes for hours and hours. The only thing it needs is sequels. MORE Fantasy games this epic and we will not hesitate to download.

Life of a wizard and life of a mobster are by far our two favorite choice of games games. We have played them more times than we can count. We are looking forward very much to the next game written by lucid!

We wasn’t sure if we would like this game, but we wanted to check out the genre. We were not disappointed, and we were surprised at how much we liked it. We played through once and didn’t complete all our goals; we don’t want to spoil anything, but the achievements at the end give he idea that it’s possible to have many different endings. We are definitely going to play through again and try to be evil, to see what happens.

This game is amazing! We loved the use of the many different skills and abilities, it really helped to make your diverse. We think that it could have had more character to character but even without it the game is still phenomenal! We would recommend this to someone who isn’t just trying to help boredom but to someone who really likes this kind of stuff. Personally we think that you should make a second one!!

The variety of storylines and character customization is unreal!!! We love this game and is unique yet following the classic Hero’s Journey storyline. Would recommend to anyone willing to give it a try.

First of all this game is awesome get it. We loved this game the first time we played it but now after coming back to it it doesn’t register all our gold, stats and makes our horses name none instead of what we chose plz fix!!!!

We really enjoyed this interactive fiction game! Being able to create our characters history so thoroughly was quite fun, and seeing that translated into stats and abilities was great. We were amazed at how many variable choices there were during many scenarios and it felt like there were always several interesting ways to handle each if the stats were good enough. There were one or two instances of weirdness where we failed to complete a quest properly, but was still able to receive the reward as if we had, and a few instances where we didn’t realize we were doing an "evil" thing that hurt our reputation and were kind of frustrating. Overall this game is great and worth your time!

This game is really fun, but you know what we think would be really fun? One of these games where you play as the newly crowned Monarch!

Life of a Wizard was a chance buy for us. Little did we know it was a very immersive CYOA with countless decisions. We were fortunate enough to almost always have at least one option for every check on our first run (thanks summoning) but we do wish there were a rewind option. We know why there isn’t but we feel like it would be beneficial in case of a mis-click or if the results weren’t what you wanted. Regardless of this we wholeheartedly recommend this game.

Definitely fun and challenging!

We love this game. We would like it if you could customise how you look not over do it though just like in imprisoned. We luv it along with the fact that you come out with about 3-7 new games per day.

Our favourite hosted game so far!

This was one of our first text based games and it is the sole reason we crave text adventures and spend hours upon hours playing. We absolutely adored this game and everything it has to offer; we’ve played through the game at least 30 times and we still enjoy it every time we start a new character.

Necromancy as a playable game mechanic doesn’t ever get a hint of spotlight, though thanks for at least including the option in part in this choice based game.

The writing style is really bland and disappointing.

Hopefully the story is continued! We’ve enjoyed this!

We absolutely love this interactive novel. This is the best one we’ve played so far. Good plot, story, writing, length and interaction. Everything was extremely balanced out. We highly recommend this to anyone interested in iOS interactive novels.

We actually enjoyed this game much more than so many of the other more graphics oriented games we’ve played. Definitely worth the money to support this awesome company. Great replayability, too!

Play this game! So much fun……

We never thought we would have spent as much time as we have on a game like this, but it really well-done and our favorite so far of this kind of game for the iPhone. The sheer volume of content is impressive, and it is polished. Coupled with an active imagination, this game can be played again and again. It even has achievements, of which there is one we still haven’t figured out how to become an bishop, let alone an archbishop.

This sort of thing isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but we found it very enjoyable.

In spite of a few punctuation errors we found this to be a true rpg that is never the same twice.

We’ve probably played this a dozen times, dabbling in different skills along the way.

Honestly, most of the 5 star reviews are on-point. One of the better game-books out there.

The story is really a bunch of encounters throughout the entire lifespan of your wizard, thus the game plays more like the oral history of a D&D character. It’s pretty long on the first run-through. The choices you make (while fun) have little impact on anything other than what skills you get proficient at as time goes on. For example, spending your whole life being evil simply adds to your evil meter. This has almost no impact on the game, because the other characters still interact with you in about the same manner. This one is worth the purchase price despite its flaws. If you like D&D or Lord of the Rings you’ll dig this. We did.

One of the best apps in the App Store.

We loved the story and how much say we had in determining our characters skills . Very nice and descriptive scenes involved too however we wished that the other characters involved would be more.. Alive? As in they talked more and showed some personality making the reader care for them. But overall we liked the game alot! 4 stars for story, choices but somewhat weak with other characters involved.

The rpg is really good but there is no detail like there past or other thing.

We want to like this game much more than we do. The story is full of quests and adventure. Managing your party and getting stronger is great too. Our problem is that, when reading a game (as opposed to playing one), character interaction is key, and it feels as if there is none in this game. Best example: you can get married, but unless they are in your party, you will essentially never see them again. Same with friends, and acquaintances. Even then, your best friend might be in your party, and the game refers to her as ‘the thief.’ These issues cause the game to feel sterile, and as such, we can’t rate it as highly as other similar games.

We love this app! An amazing story, plenty of choices, we’re played through several times just to get different endings and we love them all. But now every time we get to the dwarf city it won’t let us continue. Please fix it, we love this game otherwise.

This app has amazing potential with all the different choices to make, but when you collect the reward from the dwarf chief the game just crashes and you cannot continue. We really wanted to see where this story was going because even in its incomplete form its still better than some other choice games out there.

Right after the raider storyline the game crashes at the begining of the fire elemental lord story arc. Please fix this.

Great game but latest version causes our game to crash and we have to restart the whole story each time. When that’s fixed it’s 5 stars.

So the game is really good and worth the money. The writing is fun and well done, but we’ve had the same error pop up each time we try to advance past the first quest in the dwarf city. From there it won’t load the next scene. We’ve re-downloaded the game 4 times but it doesn’t work.

We honestly thought the game was amazing at first. It have great replay value and the story makes you want to never stop reading. We would have loved to read it all, but apparently once you make it to your final choice before leaving the dwarves, the game completely cuts off after showing an error message. You can still continue playing, in a way, but you can’t exactly continue reading. It would be like if an author wrote an outstanding novel and towards the middle of the book just cut off before finishing a sentence and left the other pages blank, turning it into something dreadful… We would greatly appreciate it if the past comments where to be proven true and the game updated without the major error it has today.

Awesome game!! You ABSOLUTELY have to make a new one! :o.

This our favorite iOS game ever. We have played it through many times and probably will many more times. Nothing else like it on the app store.

Simple the best one of these yet. We would love a sequel.
