Player Experience Highlights
Community Insight:
Given how many studios they roped in to improve card design, it would be nice if more than 1% one percent of all card were playable. Unless you also have one of their elite-designed mythical cards, your cards prolly arent worth playing/wont hold up to that block of text.
We thoroughly enjoyed playing early on. After a couple weeks we noticed that every game, from beginning to end, we literally draw the same two cards. At first we thought it was a bug. But it kept happening consistently and became even more egregious against Event Bots. We hate the idea of predetermined outcomes disguised as Random. 3 stars because this is still one of the few mobile games we enjoy. Even though the system/bugs handicap us every battle.
Change our nissa back to how she was before.
Game plays great. Doesnt require purchases to enjoy. Very minimal ads if any. Also helps with the desire to destroy the universe.
Not much of a game if you cannot even play it when you want.
We thought we had taken time to review this but we guess not. Ive been a player since the beginning. This game is one that Ive always come back to. We hit plat a few years ago and there are ways around everything. Ive only bought a few cheap things because paid content isnt game breaking. In game purchases are slow but the best cards cant be bought. Even still; you can beat a lot of better cards with a mix of rare and lower cards. Sure some cards have annoying gimmicks but again- its a game.
The game requires we use a Facebook account to login but Facebook login on iPad has been broken for the last 2 weeks. Perfect timing to get screwed out of the holiday sales. Bah humbug.
There is no report function for players who manipulate the game software to engineer wins or force their opponents to quit. Playing events is one of the best ways to earn booster packs and mana to level your planeswalkers, but Ive run across players in these events (where you only get a handful of tries to even win matches) who will sense they are about to lose, and sit idle until the other player quits. There it no time limit on making a move apparently, so if they wait long enough the other player is bound to quit and lose a life for that event. We wouldnt be as vocal about this were it not for the lack of any sort of reporting system or some form of reprimand for players who cheat. Its a fantastic game otherwise, just no efforts by Wizards to mitigate cheating/exploits whatsoever.
Please let the turns continue passing without us having to click the screen. If we get angry and set our phone down and would like to come back to it finally being turn after an hour of triggers without having to painfully click through and see every goofy move our rich opponent made, that would be great.
Love the strategic deck building.
We found out the hard way if you master a color once you automatically get bumped up to silver tier. We feel like the only chance you have to win is bronze tier, so we avoid mastering cards so we can continue to enjoy winning every now and then.
Been playing this game for a long time. We have been encountering opposing players that take no damage. The opposing players life counter doesnt change nor does it reflect any damage at all. These same players are also able to pull same two or three cards repeatedly. Usually cards that cause extensive damage. We have no problem with an opposing player having a good game and their deck is better than ourselves. What we have an issue with is an opposing player that doesnt take damage and there is no buff or card or spell in play for them to not take damage repeatedly.
If you enjoy(ed) the trading card game, then we highly recommend this one. Deckbuilding is still there and plenty of fun.
Ive been a paper Magic players for nearly 30 years and a Puzzle Quest player for nearly 20. When we found out there was a game made by both – of course we had to try it! And Ive found that its nice to have a fun little game that is both Magic and not-Magic.
Over the years we have deleted, lost device, or gotten new. Give it 3 weeks and this finds it way into our hands!!! Dont usually tend to even upload old decks or profile, the grind is the fulfilling! Cat get enough. Great time killer, no ads(unless you opt for them) its fantastic! We couldnt ask for much better. Great job folks! You have gained a loyal fan.
We really want to enjoy this app, but it is glitchy. Kept freezing when trying to cast certain cards. And now in the event plague control it gets so slow we dont even want to play the game.
A clear lag to win advantage, new op cards put up ahead of time for exorbitant prices. Plus if you want to compete in legacy there are hard to get cards that you absolutely need, and the only way to really get them is to craft legacy 1/5000 chance of getting the one you want. Or you wait until the link set comes up and you spend it all or buy it. Some of this stuff you could get, but Ive been trying for a gearhulk and a hour of promise for years now.
Ive played this game many times off and on since it first launched, on android phones when we had a android phone & on iPhone when we had an iPhone. There have been times where we find ourselves getting a bit irritated because Im not pulling the cards we want or need for our deck but than we have a small laugh because its just like opening a pack irl. The game has come along way since it first launched and Im happy to see it still going strong & that it has solid ground to stand on now. Yes there are items in game you can buy with cash but they also make it to where you can earn the same currency that you can buy, you just need to spend a little time playing, so just jump in a event or two and do some story and next thing you know, youve already played for a few hours and have a sizeable amount of yellow mana crystals. The only issue we dont like is how the tri color planswalkers are so expensive but at the same time, we understand why they are. Regardless however, the game its self if fun and has a very good balance overall for gameplay, features & of free to play and play to win, meaning if you want something like a tri colored planswalker asap, than you can buy the mana crystals necessary to get one or you can spend some time and earn the mana crystals for one.
More specific instructions would help newcomers like ourselves understand EXACTLY how to play. Have a step by step tutorial mode.
This card is way too overpowered, it breaks the game.
We like this game, but Im ready for the creators to ban Omniscience. Im tired of playing against decks where we make 2 moves and then the opponent hits a loop and kills us with no chance to interact. Not fun then.
The system had a glitch recently that wouldnt allow us to log in. Had to research how to get in contact with them. After a day or so and several e-mails back and forth finally found the solution was to delete the app and reinstall. We appreciated the help but there was nothing done about content missed for the 2 days we couldnt log in. Im happy to have it fixed, just thought maybe they would have done something for the loss.
This game has a lot going for it, including great card art, a variety of events, and planeswalkers with abilities distinct enough that they really do play differently. There has been so much content added, though, that unexpected interactions have arisen. Its possible to set up unending cycles of matches and card drawing. Its nice that there are plenty of card decks to choose from, but the developers need to take a break from adding even more cards and rebalance some of the ones already available. When its possible for an opponent to get up to 15 free swaps and take a 20+ minute turn, its time for us to get out. We did have some fun, though, and with careful work by the developers other people could too.
This game is awesome . Been playing for a year now . It would be nice to be able to challenge other players and to bet on the match.
We love the game but since the update it has been crashing a lot lately. It a little more fair and stuff but idk why every 2 hours and yes we have timed it every two hours it constantly makes us relog in and crashes after every 4 hours. Please find whats causing this cause we love this game but we dont want to lose progress in events from the constant crashing.
Super fun game and they share the love during the holidays <3.
We really enjoy this game. Really the only downside is that the plainswalkers rotate out so much that its hard to get the exact ones you want.
Update: Developer responded. Hoping to get this nonsense fixed. Superb game, we just can't take rebooting multiple times a day any more. Please fix the bug that prevents users from deleting the full deck using the trashcan icon in the top-left of the deck edit. Rebooting the app multiple times a day to counter it has become a severe nuisance. It has been over a year. Please bump it up the list. We're begging you at this point. The trashcan selection should work. Every time. Why is the bug still present? Seriously… Begging.
This game albeit, is a puzzle game, it still gets us excited as the original card game itself! We recommend downloading this asap and dive straight in to this immersive game for a nostalgic but challenging experience.
This game has been our reliable relaxation game for years now. It is easy to pick up and fairly challenging. It does have its issues. Our biggest complaint would be the amount of cards drawn from booster packs. It just doesnt feel right. No Pack should be less than 5 cards, Im our opinion. Its more realistic. And it honestly gets annoying with the amount of repeat card drops. There should be a guaranteed chance of getting at least one unowned card in every pack, at least. Ive been a vip monthly subscriber for a few years now. Its honestly the best value Ive seen in any mobile game. We choose to go for it because the basic package at least gets you the packs of guaranteed new cards, weekly. Before you play this game BE WARNED. Add new cards come out, you will run into game breaking loops in peoples decks. But the devs are really good about starting up to date with hot fixes. And they actively listen to our community. Look out for any deck that uses OMNISCIENCE. Youre welcome XD.
The game itself is great. The match 3 aspect and the deck building. We really like putting together the champions, spells, supports that we think are cool. But the various pvp events are messed up. You get lumped in w whales who have cards that clear the match board over and over in cycles that you just have to sit and wait for the game to finally say you lose. That part isnt fun.
Game has been freezing up a lot more costing the life and what ever you were playing for whether an event or training.
Overall, we really like this take on the MTG card game! Ive always liked Puzzle Quest games since we played PQ2 way back when, and this is a worthy successor! Unfortunately, there is a very noticeable bug that makes it impossible to replace cards in our decks. Theres nothing that fixes it, its only when the game randomly decides to give the ability back. Devs please fix this.
All the lands that say convert X gems to your planeswalkers color(s) arent converting to the proper colors no matter if its single color or not. Card draw seems to be weird in tournaments we pay crystals for. They dont draw the card that help us get the objectives, even after 20 turns.
This game is one that we like to play mindlessly. Its fun when youre playing the story mode, and the solo events. As soon as you start playing multiplayer though (worse at higher tiers) youll run into decks that end up in loops that can last waaaay too long. We just quit out of a match where we waited more than 5 minutes for a single turn to end multiple times, drawing seemingly endless cards and creating infinite mana. It makes playing the multiplayer areas exhausting, but its where most of the content is. Honestly, its probably the only reason Ive refused to spend any actual money on this app.
Sort of need to add a manual stop option for infinite loops and have the infinite loop program be better. Also during some infinite loops not all effects that should be triggered happen. Example of infinite loop that doesnt trigger all effects and hasnt been triggering the infinite loop stop programming 1) Tatyova, Steward of Tides 2) Tomik, Distinguished Advokist 3) Mirrorpool 4) With any other land support on the field Will generate an infinite loop of summoning forest tokens and creating mirrorpool Card Effects that should be triggered but werent 1) Underhanded Designs 2) Nurturing Presence 3) Valor in Akros.
Ive played this game for years. How have we not reviewed it already? Its remarkably, impressively deep for a F2P game. Not as deep as its namesake, but still, the different kinds of decks you can build, the kind of combos you can find, is really impressive. And the bulk of the gameplay (once you get past the story mode which is effectively a tutorial) is PvP, so you get to see the cool decks everyone else came up with too. One star off for two reasons: One is that there are some annoying glitches that they seem not to want to fix, most notably the fact that some older cards dont behave correctly around newer ones. (Old destroy a support cards not hitting Vanguards because they were coded before Vanguards existed, for instance). The other is that the previous review Im seeing is right. There is a pay to win component. Mythic and Masterpiece cards are straight-up better than other cards, and theyre hard to get for free. Ive never paid a penny, and we have a few, but sometimes we get destroyed by a deck that is clearly someone who spent a bunch of money.
Ive always loved PQ since Nintendo DS days Melded with MtG is marvelous Recently tho the cat Plainswalker, Ajani Invigorate leadership gets used by some and l think its overpowered and kinda game breaking.
None of the cards are triggering correctly. We dont gain mana when we should, spells and support cards do nothing, and when we go to use our abilities, it freezes. We used to play a lot on a different account but now nothing is working correctly and we dont see any updates.
Big fan of OG magic on console. Made the live card game much quicker. This a fantastic take on old concept with matching game.
We love this game, it got us into MtG and we play it every day. We need help because all of a sudden we are locked out of the game. We cant sign in through Facebook because we keep getting an error message that Facebook login is unavailable for the app. Ive quit both apps and still getting the same message. Please tell us how to rectify this, thank you.
Yet again after an update logins are broken. This time the Facebook login verification is unavailable at this time you tell us that linking to Facebook prevents account loss and then this happens please fix.
You absolutely CAN play the gameand play it wellfor free. Anyone saying otherwise really just isnt very good at it or just expects no challenge. The gameplay is simple and fluid, the strategies varied. You WILL face bugs and crashes. You WILL have days that feel as if every opponent has the nastiest deck you could face. You WILL want to give up. We promise it gets better. Our advice is this: ask for advice in online forums, and take it all. Then work out what your style of play is and use the advice that suits it best. Build a strategy for yourself so you can tell everyone else, including us, that we are full of it because you know yourself best.
We play it every day. Thank you to the team that keeps it running.
Implementation of cards into a match three is cleverly done. An addictive game that is not overly Pay to win.
This game is 4 plus 4 with trample.
You bike the game. Keeps telling us to update and theres no update available.
After playing this game regularly for months at a time for years now, as of two days ago with no fanfare and no warning, they've raised the minimum firmware version so our phone can no longer play the game. Thanks.
Ive been playing this game for a very long time on our Iphone 6s. We reached level 189 and now it tells us that we need to buy a new Iphone to play! Really??? What am we supposed to do now, sell our account? No, because that would violate the terms of service. So we just dont get to play because Im not buying a new Iphone for a game. Lame devs, real lame.
Ive played daily for the past 6 years. Until today. Unfortunately we cant now, because our iPhone doesnt support iOS 16.? Our phone is fully updated, but the game cant be installed, because of some iOS change. We wish there was a heads up from Octogon/D3 but alas Hopefully its only temporary.
