A Glimpse into Magium- Text adventure (CYOA)
Magium is a text adventure game similar to old Choose your own story books (CYOA), in which you play as an ordinary guy named Barry, who joins a deadly mage tournament against the most powerful mages in the world in the hopes of using the prize to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a mage himself.
As in all interactive novels, your choices will affect the story, and making wrong choices can even lead to your death. Besides the traditional choice making of regular Choose your own story games, Magium also has stats that you can upgrade with points that you will receive occasionally, throughout the game. These stats will be checked by the game from time to time, to see if they are high enough to allow you to perform certain actions. For example, if your ancient languages stat is high enough, you can understand what animals and monsters are saying.
The story of Magium starts at the beginning of the tournament, right after you and all the other participants were transported to the continent where the contest was taking place.
As the story progresses, you will meet with other participants, you will make friends and enemies, and you will find out more about the continent you are on, and its inhabitants. You will find out that a person called "The Creator" had established several utopias in this place, six hundred years ago, where animals and humans lived in harmony, and food was created through magic. What you will get to see, however, is the downfall of these utopias, some of them being on the brink of destruction. Your choices will influence what happens in these cities, and you can even choose to save them if you so desire.
The main story of the game will be divided into five books, each of them consisting of more than a hundred thousand words.
The first book is now available in its entirety, and it can be played for free, with ads. It is approximately 178k words long, which translates to about 700 book pages. This number also takes into account the story’s branching paths. The length of a playthrough on average should be about 90k words, so about 350 book pages.
The second book is also available in its entirety, . Unlike the first book, the second one will need to be unlocked before it can be played, and it will be the same for the next books as well. In order to unlock the second book, you will either need to complete 25 of the 35 available achievements, or pay to remove the ads for the first book.
The second book is 277k words in total, on all paths, which translates to about 1100 book pages. On one path, you should be seeing around half of those words, so roughly 140k, which would translate to 550 book pages or so.
The third book has just been completed, but the next books have not been written yet, and they will be published chapter by chapter, as I write them.
Book 3 is around 445k words in total, on all paths, so around 1500 book pages of content.

Got to the point where it asks us to rate, Ill rate again after we beat it. So good.
The game is like a choose your own adventure story on steroids, our only complaint is that the Stillwater is so cliche.
The beginning book is the most interesting story we have ever read.
Everything about the story is amazing. Our only complaint is that its unfinished. Since 2017, we’ve downloaded this app four different times,And every single time it makes us redo the entire story to get to anything new.
We have re-read/replayed this several times. We like trying different playstyles, our favorite is to play as superhero Barry with max speed, strength and toughness. But the story is the best part, it’s definitely worth a try and we bought it to support the author.
We like to read and as a kid played DnD and read choose your own adventure books. So far, we have to admit we are enjoying this.
This is a great book, IF you have the patience to wait for new chapters to be written, and released. Its understandable that branching storylines based on choices that youve made in previous chapters can take a very long time to write, but by the time every new chapter is written, we’ve pretty much forgot the story that we have played, and the decisions that we’ve made. We highly recommend this story, but we might also recommend waiting to start it until the entire book is complete, which at its current pace, will be in roughly 5 years.
We used to hate reading. This is our 3rd time reading through this interactive book.
We want to book 3 chapter 4 and theres this problem when scrolling through the game we think the game is glitching though that might just be our phone we honestly dont know. We recommend this for people who like your little games on your phone like good for say Geometry Dash sure Dune or something else like that like we play those games regularly though we love this game even though it is a lot of reading there you get to make choices that is one of the most important part about this game its not like a regular book where you cant do anything about the characters is your fault if the game is boring because of the choices you made the game is an amazing thing we really love it.
Its fun, engaging, and free. We felt like our choices mattered for real, and going through achievements was genuinely a nice experience. The story was actually good, we were excited to see what would happen. We thought Id hate playing as a guy but we love our character Barry hes fun. Some achievements were hard to get though we still havent gotten them all its harder than youd think but otherwise we loved it.

We used to love to play D & D with our friends in college. We have missed it terribly, and this yes this particular game/book is the closest thing to the fun we had back then! If only it had a random dice rollerInvolved it would be perfect but even without it, its still is nearly perfect! We are going to get all of these and tell all our friends.
This game is awesome. It has an amazing plot and characters that feel real. DONT MISS THIS GEM.

Great story, great characters. Very little mess ups. Choices actually matter in this game, whether in a big or small way. Only problem with this is it takes a long time to make but we still love it!

This is a good read with acceptable game mechanics BUT there are 3 BIG issues with this game book. 1. The actual design of the save system. If something goes wrong with your phone/you get a new phone/your game is accidentally deleted you can NOT start from a specific book. You have to play it all over and that is a real chore if you are deep in like book 3. This happened to us. We wrote about it a long time ago and no changes. 2. It is super slooooow to come out with new chapters. So basically its on going and unless you read like a snail this book will be finished after you have gotten tired of waiting for it and nearly forget it. Last update was 7 months ago from time of this post. 3. No support on this game. You buy it thats it. Other choice games you can talk to a service agent and get some help in various ways. Not with this per our experience.
As a matter of principal, we dont recommend unfinished works. We started this game many years ago and barely remember any of the plot at this point. We played up to book 3 at the time, and somehow the author is still working on that same book years later. To be clear, a book is essentially a chapter of one continuous storyline. At this rate, we doubt he will finish writing the story in the next 20 years.
We downloaded this story app at least 4 years ago and they still havent finished the story. We finished book 2 4 years ago. Seriously a let down because the story is amazing.
Ok so we normally dont write reviews but oh our god, this is amazing. The story is great, the gameplay is great, everything about it is amazing. We love this so much and recommend it to everyone. :)
This is a CYOA book with impressively clever writing and few typos. The characters and plot are compelling thus far (havent finished yet). You cant customize basic things about your character, like background and gender, which is the only downside we can think of. Although we usually like to play as a woman, we didnt mind NOT getting to customize our character so much in this case, because it allowed for a more detailed and compelling backstory and personality for the main character. (MCs end up being blank slates if you allow a lot of customization options.)
We’re not a big fan of reading but so far we’ve been enjoying this. We recommend it to anyone who’s getting into this for the first time. It’s helping us now, especially since we’re stuck where we’re at.
Best chose your own adventure game period. Best game in the App Store if you ask us. With a great story and choices that have impact on the story. More engaging world than Harry Potter. One of most well written stories we have ever read. 10/10 must play.

The story is really good, everything about this game is good, the story is interesting the characters are good but the only thing is that you have to pay to continue the story but its worth it.
We love the game. Spent a whole day, around 16 hours to finish till the latest chapter of whats currently available of the 3rd book. The characters are so fun and being the sarcastic one of the bunch is entertaining. Also the romance options are so cute! Leila is the best girl and no one can change our mind! Really overall we recommend this to anyone who reads this because its just awesome and we really just adore it so much. Im held in suspense on whats going to come next in the story but Im sure its going to be great!
Also the writer uses phrases like may the gods be with us the characters are referring to highly powerful beings on the magical plane and as discussed by arrakka in book 2 chapter 11 or book3 she says that the so called gods are just calling themselves so and that she has killed a few proves it if u want it to fit into a religion you could think of it like our god created the magical plane or our gods are the true gods and they created these impostors.
So smooth! This is so well done! Also, this would be a great movie!

This game is the best game there is! The game is free 100% all you have to do is find achievements to get the next chapter.(you can pay but, the achievements are easy and fun) this is better than another text game that we paid $2 for. If you are interested GET THIS GAME!!!
We’re such a fan of this story, it’s unreal. Our one gripe is that there’s not a good system of traveling your save data. We’ve switched phones 3 or 4 times since we’ve started this game, switching between Android and Apple and over had to restart our story every time. That being said, it’s so great that we can never stay away for long and we always come back and start again.
Exceeds expectations. Characters with distinct personalities, in depth world building, easy to follow dialogue, and an interesting plot makes it a perfect role playing game. Usually role-playing games force you to pay money to complete the story. But it in the game you only have to complete a certain number of achievements to go on to the next book. Instructions on how to get all of achievements can be found on a wiki or other gaming websites if you find completing achievements hard. Overall an amazing game, we cant wait to see how the next chapter unfolds.

One of our two favorite CYOA games we have literally ever played. This is so well thought out, the story is so interesting and engaging, the characters are wonderful, and we have played for a long time without reaching an ending yet so it is clearly very long as well! We just absolutely love it. Hope that whoever made/wrote this comes out with more!
First of all, we just wanted to point out that Magiums story is spectacular, and interesting even for those who arent fans of magic, like us. To complement that fact, the characters in the story are well-developed and relatable, along with being realistic and motivated. This helps the game, since you not only get to battle epic beasts by your choices, but also bond with friends, too. This is the best & only decent CYOA app we could find anywhere, and we absolutely love it! Though we would like to add that its 12+ rating isnt totally accurate for this game. In the beginning the games language and mature elements are weak, if existent at all. But as the storyline progresses, there are some mature themes. The language, gets a bit worse, for one. The A word is used quite frequently with its assortment of suffixes. Along with that, you drink Dwarvern Ale in a scene, and get a little drunk. You also have the option to tell a girl that you love her breasts, which is too much for a 12+ game. Now, the gore, also gets heavy. There are several beheadings, murders, bloody scenes, etc, although we would say they are quite mild unless you have a wild imagination. Besides all those facts, this game is perfection! We love the different character personalities and risky decisions. Now that we’ve got it, we cant put the game down! Great work, developers!
The story is amazing and we feel that our decisions and choice of stats actually matter and have a very big affect on the story.
We have fallen in love with this beautiful world you have created and the characters that reside in it. We have been pulled in from the beginning, theres a few choppy sentences here and there, however the story, the main characters personality, and the dialogue interactions truly outshines. We eagerly await every chapter and hope that when these five books are finished, that you will continue to make more.
This is by far our favorite choose your own story game out the many that we have played. Thank you so much for all the hard work youve put into the story, we love how many achievements and different path there are to unlock. Very well done.
