The game $100, with four scenarios. This would be fine, except that it seems to have three functional scenarios. Escape from Innsmouth is flat out broken. You get one chance to interact with Agent Craven. Then he locks the door and you cant check again once you have more information. This makes the scenario unwinnable. The game doesnt bother telling you this, but youve lost. If you do convince him he vanishes with barely any hint where he went. You can find him again, and present the evidence. But you then have to get back to him to let him know the boat has arrived, with nary any hint you need to until you get to the boat without him. So you pay $100 for three functional scenarios and also Escape from Innsmouth.

This is the app companion for the board game and is done very very well. A very Immersive game that requires very little amount of rules to learn and keep up with. This app will be your guide and will allow that one person who always get the job to manage the game to finally take a break and enjoy the game like the rest of the group does. We are the games manager for our group. We love this game. There is a good amount of expansions you can get to enhance the re-play. If you get the expansions you will play approx. 20+ games before you ever have to re-play a scenario. And when you do, the scenario will be played and managed differently by the app.

One issue was that the game glitched. It wouldnt let us confirm the investigator phase. Well in matter of fact it wouldnt let us confirm anything. Please fix this issue because we ended up not being able to save and just ended up losing all the progress we made.

App is fun but a few things keeping it from 5 stars. One is you cant even play all the scenarios because they dont even print some of the expansions anymore unless you want to pay ridiculous prices for them on the secondary market. Second is the game could use more DLC, there are so many tiles and pieces, surely more scenarios could be made.

We’ve played with this app before and it worked great. The issue now is there hasnt been an update and as such these new iPads with the M1 chip do not run this app properly it seems. It is very choppy with the frame rate (sub 5-10 fps) making it nearly unplayable. FFG – please update! The game is still popular and needs support! Maybe a rule book as well. 5 stars otherwise.

Fun game and great companion app. Need to add the rulebooks as an in-game resource.

Only 4 scenarios for the price and zero customization. For that price, you should at least be able to create your own scenarios to play.

Was one of our favorite games but after upgrading to MacOS Ventura is crashes on launch. Hope they consider fixing.

This seems to be extremely choppy near unplayable with the latest iOS update on both iPhone 13 max pro and latest iPad mini.

Great game with excellent replay value. Everyone we have introduced the game to has gotten hooked! The only issue we are having is that the animations are "choppy" on our new iPad – while all animations are smooth on the Android version of the app. Not a deal breaker but it does detract from the experience.

We’ve always liked this app, but perhaps we can get and update on the dark refelections dlc? It seems that when monsters spawn and you save and quit, the monsters all disappear from the board when you resume a game.

Edit: The sound is tied to your iPads silent mode setting. Silent mode should only be for notifications, not media apps/games/music, etc, but apparently it affects some games. Turn that off and youll get sound. We bought this and loaded it up on our 2018 11 iPad. There is no sound. Also, we were surprised to see we only got 4 scenarios and there were a bunch of 4.99 DLC scenarios or a physical expansion pack. We dont care how fun a game is, if it costs more than a $60 video game, Id expect it to have more than 4 scenarios included. Plus, the app not having sound was a real bummer. Spent 20 minutes uninstalling and trying to fix it before giving up and finally starting the game.

We can not play your game on our phone and everytime we download an app to our phone this game keeps trying to download on our phone. STOP YOUR GAME FROM DOING THIS !! Btw we wouldnt give it any stars if we didnt have to!

Game wont open. The game crashes when we see the FFG main screen. We deleted and redownloaded it and it still isnt working.

We wish it would tell you what pieces and tiles youd be using before starting the scenario, get that it may ruin the surprise but after playing each scenario already itd make things a lot easier and faster . Wish we could give this 4.95 stars.

We love this game so much. Theres no fails!

Just wish you could use individual devices and use a room code like jackbox so we dont have to pass the phone around, otherwise one of our favorite board games.

App works, but needs an undo button desperately. This seems like an obvious feature, but apparently not. One misclick has completely altered the trajectory of some of our games, and there is no way to change it! Please fix this ASAP!

We have an iPad 10.9 from 2017 and there is no sound …

The October 2019 update with the Path of the Serpent will kill your game on an iPad 4. Since updating it, the game will not open. We just hope a future update fixes the problem. UPDATE: The game has been fixed! Thank you FFG.

Works on iPhone fine but the graphics are hard to see and the sound doesnt work on the iPad.

The app doesnt work on our Ipad. Why do we have the problem? We tried to install it several times but it didnt work :(

This is fantastic and brilliant in what it tracks and what it doesnt. We would like to see more shorter missions. Id also like to see an option to turn off the timer the app uses to decide when to start crushing the players more directly. Many times, the group does not know what to skip and uses a lot of actions being thorough.

The base game is $90-100 and only gives access to 4 scenarios. Each other scenario must be purchased for $4.99 each or as $25-50 physical expansions. The game itself is fun and well designed and we enjoy playing but for $100 we expect more than 4 scenarios. We would give it 4 stars if not for the poor value.

Love this game! Played it twice, and love it. We are always excited to play more. What makes this game fun is the immersion into the story. More sound affects and voice acting would enhance this further. To make it a five start some suggested features. Have players create a user profile so DLC can be synced across platforms. We are all for paying for more content to support the maintenance of this APP, but having to rebuy content due to a change in platform is disappointing. Please add more 60-90 minute DLC so we can introduce others. Adding more voice acting into the dialogue would make it a fuller experience, and sound effects when monsters are introduced. This is how we get others hooked and they buy the game. During horror and combat checks, separate out the check and the outcomes dialogue box. This way there is more suspense so the players do not know what happens when you fail or succeed thus making harder decisions to use clues or not. Add theme DLC for holidays, Halloween, Valentines, St. Patricks Day, Christmas, etc. More opportunity for income, a win-win! We love the balance of board game and app usage. Reminds of the Clue board game with VHS accompanying it. This is fantastic for haunting theme parties! Highly recommend.

We played this with four other people for the first time today. It was really fun and guys and girls alike all enjoyed it. We think it could better immerse players by adding some death sounds for creatures on the app, or having the enemies possibly randomly drop different loot? Currently killing a monster feels unrewarding or anticlimactic. We suppose it seems from our perspective as a player it would be easy to add these although we know it may not be the case. After having played this with our friends copy we did go out and buy our own and intend to add the expansions as well. This is a SERIOUSLY fun game.

App just updated for Horrific Journeys but still doesnt support iPad Pro 11.

The app works great. We have no issues with it. It has worked solidly and has great presentation. Love it. The main issue that we have with it now is that it needs to be updated so that it works with the new screen ratio for the iPad Pro 11 inch. Since it has not yet been updated, it has black bars showing on the sides of the app. The the app still works as before but it is ugly and not utilizing the full screen of the iPad Pro 11 inch. Looking forward to the update. When the app works with the new screen size Ill give the fifth star! Keep up the good work.

Bought this for our wife. Enjoyed playing it a couple times but EXTREMELY dissatisfied with the number of scenarios. There are only 4 scenarios which come with the $100 game (one of which is 4 hours long, much longer than we want to play) and then they want you to buy additional scenarios. Seems lame and a poor value especially when games like Betrayal on house on the hill had dozens of scenarios.

App is pretty good, definitely take the game to the new level. We just wish all the tax was narrated with an actors voice. It would add so much more to the game instead of just reading countless screen text.

We have the Second Edition and was so looking forward to playing it but we cant get by the beginning. This app either reverts back to tile that we have to assume are the first addition (even though we have Second Edition enabled in the options) or it shows completely different investigators than we selected. We’ve restarted the game more than a dozen times and am now totally disheartened that we can never play this game. Please fix your app. So annoying!!!

Everything works Flawlessly on the iPad Pro The only one thing that we wish would work is the narration from the built-in program from the iPad. They have some heavily in depth narration voices that would sound very natural but when the game runs it doesnt recognize any of the text that pop up, if a feature were to be put So the iPad would recognize that that would be awesome.

Our friends and we were thrilled with how well the app worked, how stable it was, and how much it kept track of. What disappointed us was the lack of sound effects when, for example, a monster died. The app doesnt even offer narration for 90% of its textnot even using the iOS built-in voices. Talk about a missed opportunity! There is at least ambient sound, but additional sound effects and narration to provide a more atmospheric experience would be incredibly welcome.

The only more we could ask is for it to come with all the people it has the cards for, don’t you agree?

This game is great! It is unfortunate that the app now crashes several times per gaming session. It is frustrating to restart & lose some details/turns after the crash even though the game state is saved. It is bad enough to keep this game on the shelf and play other options until the issue is resolved. :(

The 2nd edition of the Mountains of Madness board game with this app is absolutely stellar. The set-up is a breeze with the app, and the gameplay is streamlined and a ton of fun. The sound effects and reading of the scenario intro. As played by the app are first rate, and add a great deal to the atmosphere and to immersion in the game world. If you are on the fence, we recommend the game highly. We owned the first edition which did not have the app, and which rarely made it to the table because of all the setup and advance work necessary to play the game. The 2nd edition with the app; however, is going to hit the table A LOT.

App functions fine. It is essentially a digital deck of cards that randomizes layout etc. Desperately needs added narration to increase immersion and decrease set up time.

We only discovered lovecraft 2 years ago and in that time we have devoured all his writings and was still hungry for more. Naturally, when we discovered Fantasy Flight we jumped onto every Lovecraft product they have released to date. Mansions of Madness Second Ed. Was supposed to be the perfect marriage between the tactile satisfaction of tabletop gaming and the technological efficiency of an application. We envisioned an app that would tend to the heavy lifting of card management, combat encounters, and most importantly, narrative progression. Unfortunately, FFG wasted this opportunity. The app is suitable for basic storytelling and game management. It gets you from the short intro to a fairly varied conclusion with few technical problems in between. The reason we consider this a missed opportunity is that with a little passion they could have leveraged the app for limitless immersion and variation within the meager selection of missions. For example, whenever you encounter a particular puzzle or locate a scenario related clue you typically just select one of a handful of item cards or even worse, you grab the circumstantial evidence card. A blood stained journal left behind by a mysterious protagonist? Oh look, the evidence card. A strange series of tracks in the mud that might lead you to the villain hidden among your comrades? Oh wait, just grab a clue token. Invaluable information passed on to you that could ahed light on the enigmatic note scribbled on the bathroom mirror? You guessed it… No notes to jot down for a later encounter, no critical information pertaining to a particular lock, not even an interesting detail that might aid an observant and savvy detective when the moment of truth arrives. Why go through all that trouble when you can simply use the wild card or the trusty clue token? The majority of play throughs typically involve searching for tokens or a few items. Take too long and get overwhelmed in combat. The narrative portions of the game seem almost superfluous. It is as though the designers figured that a few paragraphs of narration are all you need, and after a pile of clue tokens and dice rolls the tidy little conclusion provides the 10 seconds of framing for the experience. We wanted more! We wanted to find a journal on the floor in the study and actually have its words mean something to the outcome of the game. We wanted a good detective to bring a pencil and notepad and flip through important clues that may go unnoticed by less observant players. We didnt want to roll a die to see if the investigator lucked their way into a drawer; we wanted the drawer combination to be the birthday of the scientists wife. We wanted to discover that birthday on a card investigated in the kitchen. We wanted to pull out our scratch paper and recall the narrative clues to give us an edge in solving the mystery and escaping alive. We found that in our group of friends we were able to reach the same endings in missions without reading anything. We simply move, investigate, look for whatever symbol is being tested, and then guessing our way through the dismally repetitive puzzles. We noticed that too much emphasis was put on the 2nd Edition in the name of the devs stuck too close to the ideas in the first edition, and by doing so they completely failed to reinvent the game as a completely independent creation. The app is so blatantly gimmicky that we agreed we would rather play without it if only there was an option to do so in the second edition. What the game was missing, first and foremost, was a writer who wasnt afraid to focus on the details in the messages strewn about the beautifully created environments. FFG wonderfully fleshes out the Lovecraftian universe in all their games, but in this specific iteration they seemed to forget that true money-spending fans dont buy the same rehashed products over and over for new editions. We throw our money at them because each detail they weave into the fantasy is another thread in the stories we use to escape from the real world. And unfortunately for us weekend investigators of the eldritch and enchanted, this particular foray provides little more than a tech-fueled attempt at innovation by a team that forgot the importance of story in a story-driven game. By leaning on the power of an app they could have easily imbued each and every detail of an investigation with limitless narrative. Instead, they opted to use an app for the bare basics of utility.

Love the game and the app definitely helps manage the board properly, one of the best features is the narratives introduction. Unfortunately there is 0 narration after that until the end of the game. Was hoping for a fully narrated experience.

Game is super fun, wish we could get the new DLC though!

We’re having the same issue with the DLC. We saw a note in the last update that said something about resolving DLC, though, so maybe they’re working on it…

A few years ago we attended a tabletop party with a few friends and they pulled out the Original Mansions of Madness. It was great watching our friends play the storyline and fight the monsters. But we were always intimidated by the daunting setup and time requirements for the game. When we saw that the Second Edition was released and they tweaked it so that you can finally play a Solo variant, we were excited! We went out and purchased a copy, hurt our wallet about $105.00. But so far, we’ve played the first scenario multiple times and each time, it’s different, so is incredibly replayable and you a great bang for your buck. One thing we did notice, and the only thing we have a problem with in the app is the fact that any DLC you purchase is MARRIED to that one device. If you purchase content on your iPhone, be prepared to dish out money again for the same DLC on the iPad (which is where the app really shines). We wish FFG would come up with some sort of FFG online account that syncs all your DLC purchases across all digital companion Apps and syncs it with all your devices. We wouldn’t mind creating a FFG account, since they are bad**s! We haven’t run into the bugs some people have been encountering, it’s a solid app for an incredible game!

Chinese is the only language that this app can not supportWhen will it finished.

The game runs and is sufficiently stable. But it has no sound and no way to fix it on the iPad. It’s also gone through many updates without it getting fixed, obviously this isn’t a priority.

Lots of crashing in middle of game.

Hey, just got the game this weekend and was just tried to continue the first scenario that we started a few days ago and now it won’t render. Only see one tile and Search and Explore tokens out in blackness around it. Please fix!!!

Updating the app will break any game you have in progress. Make sure you are finished with your game before updating to this version!

This is awesome concept and it definitely takes board games to a whole new level!! That being said we would love for it to have Chromecast support.

Can Chromecast mirroring be enabled for this app on iOS? We need as many options as possible to get this on the big screen for a more inclusive game experience Otherwise it’s a great concept.
