ABOUT
Melody Jams is a project that combines a number of our passions: Music, animation, and interactivity. As a small group of designers, animators, musicians, and developers who spent their childhood creating music with friends, we wanted to re-create that experience for people of all ages. Meeting new people with different aesthetic styles and personalities made for great new experiences, memories, and ever growing friendships.
Melody Jams was conceived, designed, and animated by James Bartley. Arbitrary coded and produced the app. Music was done by Nathan Mckee and Hani Zahra.
This Education game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Ok Im a 8 year old and we still love this game its a fun game really we think its funny the monsters are cute its real fun.
Our kid has been in love with this app since she was less than a year old. Almost 3 and its still a favorite. We got the expansion pack and totally worth it. The music is great and since we have to listen to it a lot, its nice to listen to something that we like too.
You know you should make more songs for the game plz.

Mars Disco! Love the newly added Jam. Our son is really into space right now so he's getting a kick out of it. Well designed product and the animations are great. Can't wait for more.
So this game is great we downloaded it for our 3 year old and the only bad thing is that now shes 8 and she still probably wouldve loved this game if the download didnt take like 1 year or something so thats why its a four star rating also after the update we didnt notice anything new sooo yea 4 star rating.
Fun for the kid to play with (19mo) and we don't mid the music. In fact, it's enough of a catchy tune that it's kind of enjoyable in the background. And she changes it as she plays so it doesn't get too monotonous. Great app, lots of fun.

This app is fun and has cool music not just for little kids but everyone.
Great game. There is a nice variety of characters and instruments. All with distinct personalities and animations. The music was original and not just a generic kids melody and the design is clean and easy to navigate. Well done. Hope to see more from these guys.

Love it! Really surprised by the great design and animation – its super fun to jam with a bunch of monsters.
We could watch that tie wearing two horned monster flip his xylophone sticks all day long. Not to mention that toup rockin one eyed monster happily bangin on his bongo.. This app is so good our kids have to remind us to give them a chance to play.
Wow. We use this app and all we can think of is wow. Our kids love it, we love it, even our dog loves it.

The characters and animation are fantastic! Performs exactly as advertised.
Our three year old is obsessed with this app. He loves to make different sounds, and is now recognizing what each instrument is. Such a great app, we even find ourselves playing with it.
Easy and fun – we like the animation and the characters.
No ads. A dozen free instruments with swing band sounds. 4 can be played by the user. Very short, intertwined, musical phrases repeat. Swap them while playing. 99 gets you 14 electric rock sounds playable as a separate set. Definitely worth the download for 5-year-old or bored adult in airport.
This is free so, if you can't get what this is based off of (Toca band), then this is good.
Our daughter loves this game. The app is pretty simple but interactive enough to be entertaining to a little one. Also the music and animation style is very well done. The music never feels too repetitive and the subtle changes as you swap out musicians are always pleasing. Can't wait to see the new "Mars Disco".

An obvious copy of TOCA band, with less freedom and creativity. Comparing features: TB has a four-bar loop, MJ has a two-bar loop (on the free song). TB has more musicians. TB has the ability to place musicians at 3 levels which relate to prominence of their parts, greatly multiplying the complexity and playability. In TB you can "solo" with any musician. In MJ you can solo with 3 instruments. The freedom with those instruments is better, but it's disappointing that the keyboard and glock are pentatonic when the song is diatonic. Kid's ears can handle a little dissonance and that's how they learn melodic tension. Also, what's with the fake "black key" in between every key? If it's pentatonic anyway just leave those out instead of teaching something wrong. Suggestion for making this a great feature, and an easy change to program: create a "difficulty" setting with 3 levels: pentatonic,diatonic, and chromatic, with appropriate changes to the look of the interface instruments. 3 hours of development work maybe. The option to expand with other songs is the only thing that Melody Jams has over TOCA Band at this point. But having each song offer more freedom to create is what would make that advantage meaningful.
