Minute Cryptic started on TikTok and Instagram, with one video a day explaining a new cryptic crossword clue. Our fan-base exploded and kept asking for a game to play, so we made it!
With the Minute Cryptic app, you get one cryptic clue per day, specially crafted for our audience based on their regular feedback on social media. You can dial up or down the difficulty of the clue by asking for a hint or revealing letters, and when you’ve solved it, each clue links to its video explanation.

We have been into connections, wordle, globle, worldle and many of the other daily challenges and these are by far the best and most creative challenges Ive seen. Definitely worth the membership for the weekly minis and the create your own puzzles.
Every day a cryptic clue which is fun, clever, extremely well constructed, and often humorous. They are thrilling to solve, ranging from easy to nearly impossible, but there are hints to help you with the harder ones. When you figure it out you always come away thinking how ingenious they are and not feeling like it was a stupid trick. Mesmerizing.
We love the majority of the puzzles and enjoy them in application format rather than a website. Some of the par assignments dont quite make sense, but otherwise theyre different than other word games. The premium price is steep considering you only get one game. If it was more approachable you could get more people on board than a price more than nyts entire package.
Until they make a night-mode. Throws everything off. Other than that, g o o d.
We used to the app to make an account, only to be told you have to manage membership on their website. However we didnt see a clear link to their website. Only a link to preorder the book. We were going to get a membership to do back puzzles and such but we will just stick with the puzzle of the day, which is nice.
Ive been interested in cryptics for a while but found full puzzles inaccessible. MinuteCryptic is the perfect way to learn through daily clues an explanations. We have a 300+ day streak and have gotten so much better.
It would be great if the reminder/notification to complete the clue DIDNT happen when youve already done the clue for the day.
Ive been interested but intimidated by cryptic crosswords for a while, and this is a great way to learn their mechanics. We finished our first full cryptic on paper a few days ago and Im so proud.
Not only is the game and game design fantastic, but the app is very thoughtfully put together, easy to use, and visually appealing. You can watch a brief explanation/clue breakdown video for each clue within the app. Base version allows you to play daily clues. Paid version allows full access to the clue archive, a weekly 7×7 cryptic crossword, and the (near future) ability to submit clues. 100% worth it in our opinion. The developers are fantastic and communicate regularly with the community. They are very obviously passionate about the project and deserve every bit of support. If you're unfamiliar with cryptic crossword clues, it can seem a bit challenging or unclear what the point is at first. But we guarantee if you like puzzles and word games, you'll enjoy doing these the more you do and the more you learn about how the clues work. We haven't missed a day since we discovered the app and discussing/sharing the clues with our spouse and friends is part of our daily routine. Devs – we want night mode, and a "clear" button (vs back-spacing each letter).
This is the perfect thing to feed our word game obsessionthe NYT daily crossword got a bit stale, and this has us excited about filling little boxes in again.
The game itself is great, but in order to track stats you have to create an account. To create an account requires an emailed code, but the delay between requesting the code and actually receiving it results in the code no longer being valid when you try to enter it. Super frustrating.
This app actually boggles our brain its amazing.
We love the puzzles provided. The app could use a bit of work since it seems like we need to force close the app to refresh it every day to get the new clue. Not a huge issue but would be nice for the app to autorefresh each day when the new clue drops.
We find it hilarious this app is called minute cryptic when it really should be pull your hair out for 2 hours cryptic. You will be rereading some of these clues countless times to the point you forget what the words even mean. Although, once you successfully solve it, you feel this incredible sense of accomplishment along with a dopamine rush. Our only complaint is that we need to wait until the next day to solve more of them.
We do this puzzle every morning with our dad, and we love the challenge! It takes some practice but now we cant wait for the daily puzzle. We love these games.
We love this app and game, but a glitch when we opened the app showed yesterdays clue. We put the answer in for yesterday, expecting it to somehow send us to tomorrows. However, when we refreshed the app it said we had a longer streak than we were supposed to. When we hit play again, it showed us the answer for todays even though we never had to chance to even look at it. Really sad because today was the first day for the &lit clue.
This app is a perfect adaptation of the website, im so happy its finally available on mobile. Im disappointed that our friend matt reviewed this before us though.

This is a great introduction to cryptic crosswords. What started as a curiosity from an Instagram page is now our favorite morning ritual. The puzzles are perfectly constructed in a way to help beginners learn the technique and skills to solve them in a bite size form. The app is simple, elegant, and a pleasure to use. Absolutely great.

Definitely the most challenging daily word game we play, but its also the one we get most excited for.
Ive been using the website version of this for a couple months now and Ive went there everyday when we could to try to figure it out. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you get over that its amazing! We love that it doesnt overwhelm you that much with only one playable puzzle each day. Sometimes we get it in our first try, other times Im left scratching our head, only to feel a bit dumb in the moment because of how easy it was. Lately the prompts are mostly a stretch, but every time it is we feel like Ive learned something new! Please keep on going.
We may not know how to read but we love this game.
