Mountain Reviews

Great app. Any time we want to ponder the meaning of our existence we use this as a kind of visualiser. We would really like to read the thoughts as well but the notch on our iPhone makes it impossible.

For those who hate this game, we understand why. Youre probably looking for those fast, action-packed games. If you didnt like Mountain, then its just not your game. However, we have both this game and OReillys universally bigger game, Everything. These two games throw away those action-packed shoot-em-ups and compelling gameplay to give a calmer experience to those who arent necessarily that skilled with other games. They both have no quests, no conflict, nothing. Just a calming experience. And these games sound like a waste of time to many, but as someone who is very stressed and anxious, these games provide a little space for us to relax. Mountain has simplistic atmospherenothing too bland, but also nothing too busy. Its a mountain in space: alone, with no inner/outer conflict. And why should it? Theres only one thing you do in Mountain: you exist. OReilly has given us games that focus on inner peace, not mowing down enemies with guns. Many games solve conflicts with this kind of violence. David OReillys games, however, have no conflict to solve. These games, as well as the few other games similar to Everything and Mountain, exist in worlds of true peace and tranquilitythe two things that seem almost nonexistent in our world (at least, thats how we see it.) Although many of you hate this game for it having no purpose, we simply ask of you to see Mountain from a different perspective, and to appreciate it for being its own special game.

We need more art like this. If youre looking for a game, this isnt it. This is a little universe you can look in on time to time. Buy it even if you dont want to. We need to support this developer. Its only 99 cents. If you like this, try his other philosophical experiment, Everything.

We’ve been running it under TvOS for several days and we can understand why some people are very negative about it. But if you leave it running, especially with a good sound system, it adds a minor, somewhat melancholy, but also interesting element to the day. It reminds us of Bob Shaws slow glass. Our son thinks its just a Big Troll, and Im familiar with David OReilly and maybe thats how he thinks of it, too. But Ill invoke the Author Fallacy and claim that it doesnt matter. Mountain can be a small but interesting addition to your day, if you want it to be.

When we played this, we didnt really think much of it at first, but we started to see that it was very calming to us, especially when we play the keyboard thing, because the notes are just so pretty and relaxing to us. Also, we read some of the reviews that said that you cant pick up the trash, but you actually can if you press and hold it for a few seconds. Just thought Id mention that so people wouldnt hate on this game for that.

We didnt know what to expect and we think it helped us in being completely open to whatever the mountain would be. We found myself looking at the mountain as something we want to protect. Green, serene, void of anything negative. Suddenly, an old fridge crashes into our serenity. We can feel the discomfort, our urge to do something to fix the scene, clean it up. Then we realize theres nothing we can do but accept it, release our anxiety about it and seek ways to welcome it and other unexpected or unwelcome things into our mountain (world). A great exercise in letting go of the urge to control and just accept the beauty of everything as it evolves.

A game that separates high school kids and grown up adults.

Sadly the thoughts are not readable at the top due to the shape of the iPhone 12 screen. We really enjoy checking out our mountain, playing notes, moving around the stuff that crashes into it. But we really love the overall atmosphere it creates with the sounds and visuals.

And buterflies! Aw it restarted and now im back at the beginning………… Oh welll… But now seems to be prettier, birdier, butterflieier and mountier.. Nice job !!

If we could give this 6 stars, we would. The ending was phenomenal and so thought provoking. Its better than any movie or video game we’ve experienced and Im avidly looking for it. Wow… Just wow… How could you even describe it? Dont pass up the opportunity to play this amazing game.

You are a mountain. We dont even know what to rate this. Please just leave us alone right now.

The polluted mountain is kinda depressing. Our daughter likes to poke at the garbage. We just want to clean it up but we dont think there is a way to manipulate the junk other than poking at it.

The graphics are wonderful, but watching our mountain become polluted with an unending array of junk which we cant do anything about is far from the relaxing experience this game is supposed to engender. We would have been happy to pay a lot more for the relaxing experience we were promised, but as it is the 99 cents we paid for the game is far too much.

This game is not suitable for iPhones with Face ID, and the thoughts are cut off on the top.

It only took us so long to realize that Mountain is an uninspired derivative of Getting Over It because by the time we stumbled upon GOI about a year ago, we had completely forgotten about this one. We played with Mountain a few times and wanted to like it, but it seemed something was missing from its attempt at existential irony. We saw its icon while paging through our games folder just now and it all made sense: why Mountain was made and why it misfires. Even as a joke, which it may well be. If you think you might like Mountain, try Getting Over It. Both are very offbeat and both are exercises in frustration and learning to live with unhappy accidents. But GOI gives you something interesting to fail to do, over and over and over again- and its commentary is much more subtle and engaging. We are still failing to win Getting Over It. But winning is not the point with either of these. GOI, though, does have a pointand a narrative arc that changes. Not by much, but it makes a tremendous difference.

The little synth stopped working after the first 2 minutes of playing. Have tried reinstalling and updating, still nothing.

You can look at some 3D models for a $1. Some people seem to enjoy this for some reason.

We dont get the point of this game. Is the developer having a joke on us? Whats the point if we cant start over? Its dumb.

There is text that pops up occasionally, but we have no idea what it says, since its hidden behind the notch.

App doesn’t do anything. So you are paying for a picture. Be warned.

What is the point? There is none!

If you just bought this, you just threw away your money. Game has absolutely no explanation. Nor does their website have any explanation. Does absolutely nothing. And for everyone here saying that its so different and emotional, youre staring at basically a rock with grass on it. Floating in space. SO REVOLUTIONARY. Dont do it.

Do not expect purpose or objectives. Cant really affect the mountain. Should be classified with meditation apps. Misleading.

Firstly: This games goal is to be a relaxing existential experience as you watch over a mountain. Secondly: we purchased this game with this idea we mind Thirdly: This game hardly delivered by any means. Its boring, there is no goal or tutorial. Its just a chore. Is there story? Barely, just some generic psychobabble ramblings What is the gameplay? Nothing, all you do is spin the mountain around.

Go outside if you want to watch some dirt, total waste of money do not buy.

This game is absolutely pointless. It bills itself as zen and relaxing… No. There is NOTHING in the game. Its a grassy rock that spins around and you get some text at the top. There is a keyboard at the bottom that slightly changes the time of day for the rock if you bang on it for a few minutes. This isnt a game. Its a rip off. Do not buy.

Could have watched a real mountain for free.

Look at this mountain. Here are some birds. Heres a crap piano. Nothing happens. Not worth the dollar.

As pretty as it is, this doesnt have any features that make it even playable. You just sit and watch. Id give 0 stars if we could.

Not fun. No instructions, and deprsseing from an envirmental view. Wast of time.

So the game made some upgrades to the graphics. Looks much better, but you cant save. The game basically starts over at the same place over and over and over again.

The trash gave us anxiety. We use to clean houses for a living, Imhaving flashbacks. The mountain us just something to stare at and thats it. Id rather look outside than stare at this…

This game is NOT kidding around.

This app is amazing to just chill with, as someone who avidly gets high this app is perfect, letting us just lay in bed and watch our own little mountain so its thing while we fumble with the piano feature at the bottom. Couldnt recommend this app more.

This game is amazing in helping our through our anxiety. It is absolutely beautiful and if you have any issue with anxiety or another issue we highly recommend this game.

LOVE IT! From the sounds created by the app to the sounds created through our touch to the RAMDOM ITEMS which appear and disappear…. LOVE IT ALL!

Was really worried you guys wouldnt update the app to be compatible with the new iOS update. Was really happy to see we could use it again! Great game, super relaxing and very mysterious.

We don’t play many games but we enjoy this one very much, even though it’s not so much about "gameplay", it’s really fun.

A beautiful combination of exhilaration and serenity. Mountain brings out our truest feelings of genuine emotion. Mountain had taught us things about myself we had no clue were true. When we say that you will become one with your mountain, you will become one with your mountain.

It would be perfect if a larger variety of plant life was added. We dont quite like that the objects that fall are items humans would have if there arent even animals or humans in the game. At least animals should be added.

Seems like itd be a more interesting game is you could collect stuffs on the mountain by chance, and keep them. Scene is beautiful, random drops are cute, just not much purpose if they disappear.

We like it. Its more of a thing you observe than a thing to play with, which is actually kinda perfect for us because we dont have a lot of time to waste on games but we do have occasional breaks in our day where we can check up on a mountain. Which things keep running in to! And we dont know why or how to stop it or get rid of them. But we do like this app.

We’ve really enjoyed this game so far. However, our phone gets so incredibly hot when we play it. Its somewhat of a deterrent to keep playing. Yet, its still a surprisingly amusing and lovely little game. Im looking forward to what other gems it might have in store (save it doesnt burn our phone out!).

We didnt know what to do with the drawings at the beginning so we skipped the first ones and then figured out what to do with the last one. We didnt know that your game is decided on what you draw and we wish you could restart from the begging.

So its cute and pretty but its never explained what its purpose or point is. Its marketed at a game but you dont really get to play anything. The world is nice but a tutorial or explanation or an actual game worth money would appreciated. If you are easily bored dont get this game.

The app used to be simple and relaxing. Id open it, watch our mountain and relax. Now every time we open it we have another planet trying to annihilate us and it just adds unneeded stress especially since there was not explanation as to how to avoid impact. It goes against the original concept.

The thoughts dont show up on any phone with a notch. Dont bother if you have one.
