Beyond excited to see that this game has had an update this year. We always wondered what happened to the developer, because in our opinion this is the best game youve released.

The game is amazing. We love the new features and that the story is continually updated. The gameplay feels like a mix of classic text-based and turn based strategy. To the developer, thanks for the new update!

Great game but pretty unforgiving. Misposition your units once and you lose the game ><

We have only recently started playing this game but like it a lot so far. It seems fun to play before bed in order to relax too.

Our grif died and we couldnt hang out with Maite anymore :(

We love this game, but if the dev was going to change the way the text was scaled before its no longer with a smaller phone screen in mind, then there should be an option to allow the original scaling. Now the whole game is weirdly zoomed in for our iPhone 6 screen, so some of the text in the opening screens runs off into the forward and back buttons, and the battle screen now is halfway cutting into the tiles on either side of the screen, which makes it a bit hard to tell whats going on at the edge of the battlefield and also a little more difficult than is necessary to tell your units to go onto those tiles. Also the text just generally feels really large on our screen and you have to scroll enough in this game even when most of the text is on screen at once, so thats not ideal, even if not major. All that being said, the game is overall fantastic and we used it to get through our onboarding process and first when we started our current job and we were left to sit around a computer for hours haha. Occasionally you get moments where youre asked to escort someone across the map for 20 coins and its just not worth it because you have to move them in battle due to them not have the discipline necessary to stay still on their turn and that alone makes escorts so much worse but otherwise its got a fun gameplay loop that we really enjoy and would recommend.

We love this game. It reminds us of an old RPG called Darklands that had a lot of depth. We would love to see more apps or expansions from this developer.

We like this game a lot! Come in with the right expectations though: imagine an RPG thats all side quests and no main quest, and thats kinda what this game is like. Perfect for enjoying RPG gameplay in a more casual way.

This game is one of the best games on the App Store. The game is challenging however with some good placement you can defeat parties that outnumber you 2 to one.

Our man we would legitimately pay money for a second game like $1.99 keep making more love your stuff.

We left a scathing review about the amounts of ads (It really should be a crime to have so many). However we forgot that you can remove them and now we wish to state that AFTER YOU PAY TO REMOVE THE ALMOST UNENDING OBNOXIOUS ADS this is one of the greatest games ever. A straight forward hex based OSR style rpg similar to Forbidden Lands. You have to cough up some dough to get past the non-stop gameplay jarring ads, but its totally worth as this game is fantastic.

Where is the Editors Choice label! The random backstory and skills given to the characters you recruit make you form an attachment to them. You value them more and more as they complete quests and learn new skills. The mechanics are simple yet challenging. You will find yourself traveling on roads unless you want to starve in the forests. Reminiscent of classic RPGs, this game is rewarding, re-playable, and a rare hidden gem.

We love the fact that we cant revive anyone (I play with high stakes always because it feels a bit more real lol) and random encounters, we have not played much of it yet but we think this might be the best mobile game we’ve played in a long while.

Loved the game to bits, one thing that would be cool if there was an overall story and connected plot points in addition to the amazing substories.

Our favorite game but we still miss hal rigger. Please bring him back :)

Hi!! We absolutely loved this game so much. We were wondering if there would be an update coming eventually?

Best adventure game on the App Store, we love every bit of it!

If you love pixel graphics and turn based gameplay this one is for you. As long as you don’t mind the hex grid field. Games like these are absolute gems and in our favorites of all time.

We didnt give this game a fair shake at first. But now that we’ve given it another look, Im very impressed. It scratches the lightweight RPG itch perfectly. It also has a surprising depth of narrative, quests, and content in general. Its so good we felt compelled to come back and give it the 5-star review it deserves, years later! Definitely looking forward to seeing if this developer has published other games!

This is the best game we’ve played in a while we think that all it needs is a bigger map/more character upgrades.

First off, we just want to say we absolutely love the game. Everything about it, we crave. One thing we have to say though, why is it that when you are escorting a monk and run into cultists, why cant the monk act as the warrior monk and bypass the fight?

The games is challenging and the stories along which each character are amazing. The art style is a fun look and its mechanics are easy! We found it a while ago and have played it as a on and off game as we go on trips and such and starting a new game each time is amazing. Its as if im going on to adventures! We love this game and hope to see more updates and more content to be added in the future!

Great game, but there really needs to be an option to either disable tutorials completely or disable tutorials that we’ve already seen.

A challenging punishing very skill based game.

We would totally pay for a new expanded version. This style of game has so much potential. We download this game a few times a year and play it until real life calls. We hope the developer sees all these great ratings and chooses to remake and expand this great game.

Love this game and everything in it we love the ability to explore and we have sunk so much time into it awesome game developers did a awesome job.

We’ve been playing this game off and on for at least 4 or 5 years and we always seem to come back to it as our favorite game to pass the time on long train rides. The combat is difficult and rewarding. The characters are fun and the quests are interesting. We do hope we get more updates on the future !

RPGenius of a game. Id pay money for DLC. Heres to hoping theyll release extra content.

We downloaded this game because we were interested by the description. Three hours then passed as we lost complete track of time playing this phenomenal game. We’ve been so surprised by our enjoyment of this game because its a real gem among a lot of really terrible App Store games, and its somehow free to play. We get theres ads, but we wasnt even really distracted by them in any way. We think youve developed a truly remarkable game and we are sharing it with all our friends. Good work!

While we love pixel games, it is hard to captivate us with the more simplistic styles of play. But we have always had a soft spot for text base games where your choices matter and this one is the best so far. The best part is: it is challenging and requires you to be very strategic. You cant accept every single quest all the time. You cant spend your whole game instigating all the fights possible until you are strong enough. Plus there is n incentive to retire your seasoned fighters and train up characters you meet along the way. We just found this game today and have probably played it for 7 hours. We cant stop! The commercials pop up just infrequently enough that we dont feel unvalued as a customer. It actually makes us want to pay to support the game without feeling like we got baited and switched (some free games are impossible to enjoy without paying). Really hope this game keeps expanding or that the dev makes another game that is similar. UPDATE: There does seem to be a glitch where we can no longer view the top bar when we go into town. Kind of hard to make informed purchases without access to that info.

This game is the best pixel rpg that we’ve played on mobile, and it definitely lives up to its goal. Although, we could do with say, a ferry at Grionti that you could take to one of three separate small islands and back to grionti. Also, could do with more places to go in the North and West. Maybe South West area past St. Cithias could be of use? Also, maybe add more options and opportunities for the player to choose how they do encounters, like more options for the player to be the bad guy. For example, your party eventually becomes famous, but why not have options to have you known more infamously? Just wondering. Also, our main gripe is that there isnt enough weapon variety!

If possible we thought it would be really cool if your player made character and maybe other characters could have children to continue there line in the company or something like that we guess at least be an option for the player made character.

We just cant exactly figure out what to do, and maybe add more classes please.

We really enjoy playing the game, the mechanics and everything but what we started to realize as we were playing was that we were repeating the same things again and again. We understand that each character has a quest line attached, but we were under the initial impression that there would be a main overarching storyline to accomplish. Game plays great just ends up being kind of pointless because in our opinion the 100% company goal is too grindy and not worthwhile.

This game has great gameplay, good story arks and brilliant dialogue. It is a jewel of a game. BUTit has one massive flaw. Occidental Heros is way to punishing. If a character drops to zero they are permanently gone. While this may not sound like a massive problem, as this is realistic, it is crushing to constantly have to replace your party members makes advancing impossible. And yes, we know that there is a chance to revive a fallen member if you have a fencer with the army surgeon background, but fencers are almost always the first ones to die in a fight, so the surgeon cant revive themselves because they are dead. We think the best way to fix this would be giving the character a major penalty due to injury when they drop to zero HP, but not killing them unless the whole party falls to zero. The surgeon would now have a fifty-fifty chance to now have an injury. Maybe an injury would give a character a 50% penalty to all stats, for 20 moves, or something like that. Thanks for reading our comment. We hope it proved useful to both devs and potential buyers.

This game has potential. The story is different and compelling and character development is satisfying to a point. The frustrating part is the permadeath. You work to advance through the different quests only to be cut down by a random encounter. Healing does not exist in this game, and the weapons are few and dont seem to do much. Also, its not clear how to achieve the main objective of the game. Its definitely worth a try though. It might be exactly what youre looking for!

We got bored after a few hours of play. The fencer is an interesting class but we found the other two classes to very basic. Maybe we just didnt play long enough.

All the mechanics are there. Its just uninspired and just not interesting. Its way too limited to be any serious fun, strategy nor tactical. Not really role playing. But after a while its so what.

We love this game! Everything about it we love! We have an ongoing campaign called the Followers of Karien, and we’ve been playing it for about a year. Is there anyway we can support this game because we would love to see more updates, its been so long since a major one has come out. Let us give you our money!!

Title says it all. Its a really fun little time killer and you can have a good time pulling out your phone wherever you are and continuing your partys legendary adventure, its great.

Just bought and enjoying but the ad purchase doesnt work. We’ve used it twice to no avail. We dont yet know if we’ve been charged twice for nothing… Fix this.

First off, its seems pretty crappy to us to call people who do t enjoy permadeath crybabies right off the bat. Doesnt exactly engender much love for the game. Second, we dont really get what the point of the game is? We played around for a while, but only seemed to be taken in circles around the map, doing jobs, buying supplies, over and over again, until eventually our party died and that was game over… Which really made the whole experience feel like a complete waste of time, which the aimless gameplay had already been feeling like. Not a fan.

The game is fenomenal, the art atyle, the stories, the choices, the map, everything hit the the right spot for us. The mechanic is extremely easy to understand and get into, your choices does have weight to it which directly affect the outcomes, which in turn help each run unique from another. Though as it is still in developement (I hope) the game is quite "short" as once your team pick up the xps and upgrades, they kind of snow ball almost everyfight as the AI leave much to be desires. We only found this gem ~2 days ago and we already racked quite an embarassing amount of playtime already. One last grief we have with the game though is that once your party all finished their goals, you have to depart with them to recruit new ones to do their quest line which in turn drop the fire power of the team tremendously as the new guy not only is underlevel and geared, but the enemies are stronger as well.

We are thoroughly impressed with Occidental Heroes. Everything is way better than you would expect from a free mobile game. The minimalist pixelated art style is uniquely charming. The gameplay concept is simple and a awesome throwback to classic role playing games. While the combat can be unforgiving, it is really quite fun once you get the hang of it. Some words of advice: dont get attached to your characters, they will die or retire fairly quickly, be smart and extremely careful in combat, always stock up on supplies and buy pack animals, and make sure to not run out of money by always having 2 or 3 active quests. Finally, please download this game, its so fun and you will have a blast!

Occidental heroes when we started playing felt like a generic open world RPG but we were proven wrong. This game truly feels like a table top role playing game where every characters has their own backstory and goals to accomplish, and the perma-death system makes every battle feel important. This game is amazing and you should definitely play it.

Maybe its the hexagons, pieced-together as if someone has painstakingly spent years going over every little detail of the story that unfolds as you move along them; maybe its the way nothing is handed to you, and itll take several play throughs to understand the real potential of your party members, and the game itself; maybe its the fact that we can start off as a woman (spoiler alert: am woman); maybe its the devs obvious love for the genre, which shines brightly in a world of gacha garbage. Either way, we love this game and its exactly the challenge we were looking for. And its probably what youre looking for, too.

Great game. We love the rouge like fell and the r and g. Permanent a death is a big plus. Playing cat and mouse with archers is hecka fun. We’ve only made 9 percent so far but cant put it down. Must be a lot of content. Live what we seen so far. If you like turn base rpg. This is a must. Im off line and the fact we can play it at our house is great.

We’ve only played for about 3 hours and already we’ve come here to thank you for providing a genuinely amazing game! The writing and wit thrown into the relatively constrained-due-to-scope script is a facet that has particularly caught our eye to this point. We can tell real thought and passion was put into the lines. The combat is incredibly basic, strategic, and fun all in one. Please continue with regular updates of this game, or run with the concept and make something new, but whatever you decide keep it up!
