We originally had played this game almost three years back, and came back for a second round. Its still the same as we remember, with relatable characters and believable stories. There are a variety of different perspectives and its nice to see the slow (but not achingly so) progression of each characters stories. Makes you think about the other person. This is incredibly charming to us, although that might be in part because of our familiarity with the Japanese culture, so know that going forward. For anyone thats looking for more, theres a sequel to this game! Also fun.
The characters are well thought-out. Discovering how each of them relates to the others is pretty neat as well. Definitely recommend this game.
We became incredibly attached to these characters almost immediately! The game itself is beautiful in both visuals and sound with the characters and music being unique and interesting. It is a wonderful idea for a game and we’re sad as we near the finish. It is a compelling mystery and calming pastime. The characters each draw you in and we found myself with multiple favorites! It is a surprising, gorgeous, and satisfying game!! We are currently very passionate about it (as are the friends that we have shown this to). Our only gripe (haha) is that we and our friends cant get the grumpy man and nice girl’s final gripe. We’re not sure whether it is for plot or we have to do something special? The nice girl has become our favorite and [SPOILERS?] we are obviously incredibly worried about her haha. And we’re left hanging with the grumpy man, as well! What are their endings!! We’ve got to know!! Our fear is that this is as much as we can complete (all endings except for the grumpy man’s/nice girl’s) and we are not prepared for this story to be over! We hope we are just missing something. Beautiful game! One of our favorites, now! Even with all the endings, we’ll love to read through the gripes of our customers and friends.

Calming, we recommend highly! It doesnt feel like grinding like in other games. Getting to know these characters is so much fun, they surprise us everytime we learn something new about them.
This is probably our third time playing this game, because we enjoy the story so much. We can still remember our first time playing it. It gave us so many emotions, from anger, to sadness, to hope. Oden Cart is a pretty simple game, but the story is so wonderful. Im pretty sure it made us cry the first time we played it! We were so invested in the characters and what was happening to them, that we checked the game often. We didnt expect to become so attached, and the fact that we did tells us this is a well written game. C:
We really love this game! Theres basically no stress to it (which might be a turn off to some), but we love being able to quickly check in on our customers and go back to whatever we were doing. Like Tadashi Im having a really hard time getting the endings of the Nice Girl and the Old Man. Maybe its a bug? Or maybe we just have to fully load our Oden cart with their favorites! Definitely worth checking out!
We really enjoyed this game’s art style, its laid-back gameplay, and its stories. Some of the stories took an unexpected dark turn, but it was very satisfying in the end.

We open this all the time to see if we have a new gripe or a clue about character relationships. We greatly appreciate the fact that it’s completely free…. But we would love to be able to donate! This is a really cool game. Love finding out what the individuals stories are. Hope there are more Oden Carts coming. Oden 2 is great too.

What a delightful app! We love seeing if and how the different characters are connected, and slowly learning more of their stories. We find myself opening the game all the time to see what’s new. At first we were overwhelmed with the screen filled with little speech bubbles if you’ve been away for awhile, but once you read their gripe once you don’t have to do it again so it’s quite manageable. We only have two gripes (hah!) – although we greatly appreciate that there are no microtransactions, we wish there was a way to pay them because we are enjoying this so much. The second thing is, now we find myself craving oden all the time. ;)
We loaded & finished this game in 1 day. We were home sick, needed something to do that didnt take any brain power. We figured out early on that the first 4 characters werent going anywhere, so we moved on to the next set of 4 characters. Once those were completed, we moved on to the next 4. Our final remaining characters were grumpy man, nice girl, mysterious man, and housewife. So we set out their favorite foods all at once & their storylines all pretty much finished together. Housewife took the longest for us & was the last one to complete. Not sure if there was supposed to be a strategy to it, or if thats just how it worked out. We also noticed the ghostly girl was always alone – so once again, strategy? Or it just happened that way? Either way, thanks for the sick-day distraction. It was exactly what we needed!!

We originally played the Chinese version and was hoping that an English would come out! Am not disappointed at all as the translation is awesome! We love it! ^.^

Perfect for immersing yourself in a contemporary Japanese atmosphere while waiting in line, during your lunch break, or a few minutes of downtime at home. Best of all, it’s totally free with no pay-to-play or micro-translations.
We just love it because we get to find out about the person and what they do.
This game is a comfort after a hard time. The premise for this game is so original and inspired. The whole thing is enjoyable and touching. We hope the developers give an option to pay to remove the ads.
All of these characters are so wonderful and its so clever how all of their stories come together to create a whole narrative we do have one gripe that is more about game play than the actual game – we wish there was a way to see how many bubbles you needed to click until you reach a new gripe. While we love the story and want to play the whole way through,I lose interest if we keep getting 200 old bubbles before we get a newer one that we need 50+of to unlock a new gripe. That speed is the only issue we have. Still 5 stars.
Love all of the stories. They can get surprisingly dark but some of the characters have good developments through the game. Its good for casual gameplay but the stories reel you in!
An Oden Tale was a good story with excellent, quirky, writing and an enjoyable atmosphere. It’s all about the story and how each character is connected with the rest. Take the time to sit back, relax, listen to the relaxing sounds of bubbling Oden while the story unfolds before you. If you are a fan of Neko Atsume’s collecting game play, and enjoy a good story, you will like this game. On a side note, the translation was excellent. The translator did an amazing job localizing the content and making it familiar and relatable.
We downloaded this after reading about relaxing games. It really fit the bill. The stories of the customers are so heartwarming and in depth. You really get to know and care about their lives. We cant get Scarlet her fruit parfait, as the dish doesnt exist, but its ok, there isnt a sequel to this one yet, so Id still be playing it anyway.
Wow. What a unique & compelling game! We were captivated by the storytelling and relatable characters. The gameplay is very different from other games we’ve played in the past, but once we were able to get into the rhythm of the slower (more casual?) pace, we really enjoyed it & wanted to uncover the full story. Now that its over, we wish we could experience it all over again. Like other reviewers, we were having a tough time finishing the Nice Girl & Grumpy Mans storyline. It was frustrating to figure out, and unfortunately we relied on some spoilers to get the Grumpy Mans ending. We will say for future players that the key to progressing is to finish the storylines for the last three characters first, and then return to the others. Overall, Im so glad we discovered this game, and Im also playing other games from Gagex at this time, too! Thank you.

We are adding this on as a hint to others… If you cannot get the final gripes, make sure you are having the favorite food of the people you need! It works! We completed! Please now!! Except for the adorable and juicy art, we also fell in love with the story of this game. So many people struggling in life finding a place to rest and moving on in their lives. We highly recommend this game!!
A charming game with a compelling story to tell. Its not a huge time sink, but its a worthwhile time investment. The ads can be a little annoying, but they are easy enough to bypass and continue the game. Note for those playing- The endings may not unlock in the order you expect. This is on purpose, and your game is not broken. Trust the game. Youll get there eventually. ;)
Very beautiful and heart-warming, both the content and the art! This game is extremely well-made and the English version is excellent, either they’ve rewritten it in English or had an extremely good translator working for them! The words fit perfectly with the characters, almost as if we can see them saying it! We have played this game and Hungry Hearts Diner, and we must say we love both of them a lot! The producers are awesome!!!

Its a great mixture of the two.
We open the app several times a day in anticipation of finishing the characters’ stories. It doesn’t require a lot of effort but it still manages to keep our interest even after a couple weeks. We really like how the characters’ stories are interconnected. Also we think to finish some stories you need to have specific people there at the same time. For example [spoiler], we just finished the grumpy man’s story and we realized after reading the ending that he was at the cart the same time as the mysterious man when we got his last speech bubble. That kind of detail is really nice.
We enjoyed it very much. We liked characters and story. And of course, Oden. We ended up going to Asian grocery store to get Oden set to make Oden for dinner. By the way, where is Oden Cart 3 in English language? Please hurry.
Well we iust beat the entire game in a little over 24 hours. We’ve completed all the storylines in the correct order, we’ve solved the mystery, we’ve taught Glamorous Girl to be herself. And now we’re just sitting here, crying. We are sitting here, on our couch, shedding real tears for Nice Girl who deserves everything. Long story short please play this game and when you do come yell at us about it, we are dying inside in every sense of the word. Some gibberish: we laughed really hard at how closely the mystery resembled the main arc of DiU- Kira Yoshikage, Riemi Sugimoto, Shinobu Kawajiri… It matched flawlessly and we think it’s really funny.
This game hits us like a truck. The story lines and the concept make us feel like we actually get to know all the character and honestly play the part. A true RPG star. Hope other games in the Heart Warming series will be translated too. Kudo to the creators. Hopefully the other ones get translated too.
We dont usually write reviews for apps, but this one definitely deserves it. We downloaded it on a whim one night, but it quickly became one of the best games we’ve ever gotten. Its got very little gameplay, but as the customers stay longer and become more honest, you just get immersed. The characters are incredibly endearing, and we found myself invested in each of their stories. Its beautiful, and we dont think 5 stars only can do it justice.
We have managed to finish this game and we have to say that all the characters and their stories have captured our attention well and truly without hassle of paying to progress the game. Definitely need patience to obtain the gripes but it pays off how the stories connect to one another. If you want an easy game to check back every now and then to progress the stories, this game is a gem!
Update 3/29/18 Cleared the entire game. Great stories–well worth the time. Our Oden cart had already earned over 1.4 million Yen before the final character made her very first appearance. That should give frustrated players some hint of how close they are to the finish line. Update 3/23/18 we’ve cleared all the customer’s stories except for the Housewife and the one after her in the Customer tab. The app definitely doesn’t have a infinite loop flaw for the Grumpy Man or Nice Girl like some reviewers were wondering. However, we have no clue what we did specifically to clear each customer. Just a couple of vague theories. One of them must have worked, but we have no idea which. Hints for those who are stuck: 1. Look at the points assigned to each gripe under the Customer’s tab. Try to guess what the points are for. 2. Take note that each gripe is color coded. Each customer will produce a lot more of some colors than others. 3. Don’t just immediately and randomly tap on gripes as soon as they appear. If random tapping worked, the game would be finished quickly. ** There is a word in Japanese that has no exact match in English: "Natsukashii". Natsukashii describes a feeling of melancholy nostalgia, a longing for things that no longer exist, or have passed away. This characters in game are perfect examples of this feeling of this unique state of Japanese thought. By managing the food stand’s budget to serve each customer’s favorite foods the player gets the customer to drop their reserve and share their individual stories of their secret sadness. The game is best played by setting the stand’s budget and coming back infrequently to check on the game’s progress. Sitting and monitoring the game constantly might get a little frustrating for players used to instant results. This is SO not that kind of game. Oden is a fascinating bit of Japanese cold weather food culture. We enjoyed researching the subject on the internet and look forward to making some myself!
This game is very calm and interesting, while it is not as cute or entertaining as this companys other games it is still very good.
We dont know what is up with this girl, but she REFUSES to change! Like, all we need is a single gripe from her and bam, shes done. But for the past three days all she ever says is Nice Oden! Okay den, WHAT ELSE!? We have literally finished EVERYONE else but her and STILL she wont say it! What do we gotta do to get ya to talk!? Shes driving us mad! We even just stocked EGGS to the point only SHE shows up, and even then, she still wont say it! Im this close to flipping our cart over and pouring a bottle of booze over your head! WHY WONT YOU JUST ALREADY SAY IT!!! Besides that, fun relaxing game.
We love games by Gagex, particularly the cozy ones dealing with food. The art is lovely, as are the descriptions of the food (so much life and culture can be expressed through food!), and, most importantly, the characters are interesting, making the story interesting. However, our single issue with this particular game is that it really slows down as you draw towards the end. Of course, this might be entirely due to user error, but Im playing this solely as an idle game and not putting effort into thinking about puzzle-solving. These games are cozy to us and easy and quick to check on; we dont really like feeling as if we have a task to do, feel us?
When we had read that this app parades having a "heartwarming tale" we were very skeptical. After playing it for about a week or more though we think it’s a fair statement. The stories the characters tell you really make them seem real, and make you feel for them. Most if not all the characters we want to hug and make them feel better (haha). The ambience is very relaxing and we’re almost tempted to leave the game open to sleep to the sounds and music at night. Would recommend this app to people who have patience and like character development. Edit: As of recently we’ve been having the same issue as tadashi(?) where we can’t seem to get the old man’s last gripe, the young girl, and the mysterious girl. We’re wondering how we can figure out if this game is just stuck in a loop forever or if there’s something specifically we need to do. We’ve been playing this for months, so we think it’s about time for a conclusion.
Can’t get the nude girl nor grumpy old man finals, bugs?
We can’t seem to get the last gripe for the grumpy man and the nice girl. Is there some sort of glitch or am we missing something? Either way, we’ve been playing for the longest time and we’ve tried so many combinations with their favorite Oden, but to no avail. Overall, amazing stories and very heartwarming. Would increase ratings once glitch is fixed.
Let us start off by saying that Iike this game. It’s slow paced, which we like, and it has interesting characters. However, after a while it gets boring. We’re aimlessly sweeping through characters gripes and getting the same ones again and again. If there was more interactions with the characters, it would be better. Having an option to communicate or send responses would make it less boring. Also, we’re not a huge fan of the art style. Women are very round and men are very jagged. But what kept us playing were the stories. They were great to watch unfolding. We just wish it was portrayed a bit differently and with better art.
More broken ads, game crashes, waste of time. Shame. We really loved summer memories so Im trying to play through the rest of their catalog but most of the titles are unplayable. Ads pop up intrusively, they fail to load leaving the game stuck. Youre only option is to throw it out of memory and relaunch but you have to do this every third action or so… And thats only if it hasnt crashed. This one is a nonstarter.
Id love to play this game but as soon as we get to the gameplay a large banner ad completely covers the bottom bar that allows you to stock the cart/view customers etc. We usually dont mind ads at all but this one is getting in the way of the gameplay.
Beautiful soundtrack, and nice atmosphere as with the other games by this developer. We love their games but this one is legit ruined by the bottom ad that can be closed and it partially blocks all the other buttons in the game. The recommendations is also just more ads. Id rather just pay to play without ads or at least move the ads in a way they are blocking the screen.
