Omar Sharif Bridge supports the following 3 modes of play:
In Rubber Bridge a rubber is played as the best of three games. A game is won by the first partnership to score 100 or more points in successful contracts.
In Chicago Bridge, also known as Four-Hand Bridge, you play exactly four hands of Bridge. The winner is the partnership that scores the most points.
In Tournament Bridge you play at your own pace against players from around the world in duplicate style Bridge tournaments. Each player in a tournament plays the same hands with the winner scoring the most points. Alternatively you can easily create your own online Bridge club, invite your family, friends or even some enemies then play in duplicate style Bridge tournaments against your own select set of players.
What is Bridge?
Bridge is a trick taking card game played by four players who form two partnerships. Players within a partnership face each other across a table. Community Insight:
Often computer partner does not respect settings. We set 5 card majors, program sometimes calls 4 cards anyways. Often too aggressive, bids its own 5 cards suit twice and thrice despite the fact opponents are bidding and we are passing. Annoying sounds that cannit be turned off in settings.
Too often the hands provided are in a word – terrible. One Jack as the only face card in the hand, for example. Perhaps more advanced players could manage, but we find the tournaments quite frustrating and discouraging.
Very sorry we impulsively purchased this app. The cards are huge on our phone so a long suit often breaks across two rows. Horrible to process. Suits display low to high left to right and cant be changed, and we are used to the reverse. Once trump is set, the suits in your do not reflect this (with trump on the left), your hand just starts the same. Very clunky. And we havent found any bidding hints or analyses but we will keep checking. Rather than provide useful adjustments instead you can change the table pattern and the tablecloth! Ridiculous! Apparently Omar Sharifs name has been dangled as bait to sell a rather poor bridge app. Very disappointing.
No provision to replay hand. No way to claim.
We used to use this app over 10 years ago. We liked it a lot. Then got Bridge Baron. Which was great but expensive. With our latest phone we went back to this and am not happy. We like to play a simple Goren style. All the convoluted conventions you use are too much. For example we want to set it to require us or our partner to have five trump to open. There are so many conventions the simple game is lost.
So frustrating! A lot of times our partner will open with 9 points or less in his hand. Or as a response to our opening will take us to the next level with 3 or 4 points in his. We would not recommend this app. To anyone. 0 stars.
We have gotten results of games we didnt participate in. Just now received result we played the game 4 players but our name is not mentioned. Its like we didnt play!!! Dont understand.
We love Bridge. This is Bridge game is pretty good. Our big complaint is that finesses hardly ever work! In real Bridge, it work at least 50% of the time.
We would like it to show the score after every hand.
We love the app, but when Im playing rubber sometimes the screen freezes. It wont let us advance to another game. Any suggestions.
The app is stuck in some sort of Tournement mode. Cant play simple Bridge. Will delete app if it doesnt correct itself.
The new cards are AWFUl Terrible little cutie cards! Can we get the old cards back.
We wish there were a button to press to go back if you erroneously hit the wrong key. Such as just now we meant to hit pass and accidentally hit 7 clubs.
We have been playing this game by Omar Sharif for years and years. It is user-friendly. We are a much better bridge player now than we were before we started playing this game. The bidding is heart of winning and this program will help you be a better bidder.
We can play for hours with never an ad or any other distractions. Love this app.
The program plays the game pretty well. Would be nice to know what conventions it plays, as some bids dont make sense unless oh, that 2 heart bid (holding a singleton 2) must have meant transfer to spades… Oops! Also, would be nice to have better Return On Investment as, for example, a tournament that has a price of 20 points in order to win 25, which means we drop 20 points if we lose but only gain 5 if we win.
We really enjoy this app. Play it every day and have improved our game significantly over time. The interface is largely intuitive and easy to use. Very occasionally the computer players make bids that have us scratching our head, but that is rare. (Though we just played a hand where we bid 4NT and North responded with 5H, but had no aces!) One suggested improvement: the Hint button plays a card for you. Better to have it highlight the card so the player can decide for him/herself whether to play. (Also, the Tournament section requires tickets to play. The tickets are for sale, but the app constantly gives bonus tickets for free, so Ive never had to buy tickets. Not a complaint! Just dont understand why the bonus tickets are given. ).
Update: Yay! Repeated requests for reviews of this app have been done away with in the latest update. Please update your app! 3/4/21 Ive been playing with this app since it first came out. Its the best its ever been in the current update. We generally play the tournaments and at times have not understood our partners bidding, leads or play. But we cant specify which game or tournament. PLEASE stop asking us to review this app.
Great app but the cards shoot around too quickly. But still love the app and highly recommend to avid bridge fans.
We usually play 3-4 tournament games every day, and it seemed that most of them are played by the computer with N/S just having very few points and just playing defense, usually not successful. Decided to check results since March 1 for the games we played. According to our best guess concerning how many games might have had the 30 player maximum, only about 25% of the scores were positive numbers, so the hands are set up for E/W to win most of the bidding and have unusual hands when N/S bids. Players enjoy playing the hands more than generally unsuccessful defense, so it would be appreciated if the hands were more even. It would also be nice to know what the bid sheet looks like for North, because we often can not figure out why or why not a bid was made. We have not been able to figure out if North is just a really bad player or is he doing a convention we know nothing about. Even with this lack or trust and getting to the correct contacts, we still are close to 8000 points and have won our share of points, but it could be so much better. Thank you for looking into these two concerns.
Please double check your coding. We just played a hand where North had honors in hearts (J,Q,K,A) yet the program ignored this and bid clubs. Then during play, when we won with the King of Hearts in the dummy it insisted we were in our hand. Very frustrating when we are practicing to improve our game.
We cant learn to play because the bid always goes to the opponents! No learning or fun.
The app keeps taking away our points and reverting back to the beginners play. It stinks.
Will this app never stop asking for a review ? Lovely app in many respects. Im moving this review back to a one if the request to write a review pops up another 6,000 times.
Been playing for years. Enjoy it every day.
We are totally addicted. But what do we have to pay for you to remove your annoying and ditzy pop-ups requesting a review . We already said said this is the best computer bridge many times. Thanks Great Dauphin Dog.
In the latest we phone update, the game no longer fits the screen. Letters overlap each other, and the game is too narrow and too tall for the screen.
Please stop the continuous loop of review requests and asking us if we want to review updates.
Will this review stop the app from constantly asking for one? Best interface of any of the bridge apps, no doubt. But, still, it bids very questionably much of the time. No way anyone could dependably learn to bid properly playing OSB. Experienced players know when the algorithm fails and can override or ignore.
This ad to rate and reviews keeps coming up and we cant get rid of it. We like the game but there are repeated hands.
We would like to be able to replay the game again.
We dont have an option for this under menu…only options are version and Hand Scores.
Love the app but we will rate it 1 star every time due to annoying review pop up.
Computer bidding is randomly terrible since when do ppl open with 1nt with 12 points.
We love the game but it keeps going to get a review after each game and if we look at the scores. Very annoying.
Ive loved this app for years now it redirects to review page after every match.
Overall a fairly OK application, for something as complex as bridge. We initially gave a three or four star rating. However they keep asking us to rate the application every time we go from one screen to the next. So we have started putting one star in every time. Is there a reason for this.
Good app but bothers us constantly lately about writing a review over and over.
It is the only bridge games we enjoy and learn from.
We have been playing Omar Sharif for years. We often want to stop playing the current game and start another. The current version does not allow us to do that.
Will update later after playing conventions.
We are not an expert but can find no references anywhere to this bid.
We have always played as a portrait screen, but now we have to play in landscape. Can you fix this.? Hard to read and hold in the landscape format.
Please add the voice. That is why we purchased it.
Partner overbids almost all the time with hardly any points to back his bid up. Hardly ever win due to the above.
No modern conventions, usually defending not good app.
We had problems with the game freezing up but now the new version works great. Thanks. The board is easy to play on compared to other Bridge apps.
We have no idea what system he uses? Also the computer has no idea what bids mean, very bad program and frustrating.
Thank you for creating a safer bridge app. The play is great. We would like to be able to undo a fat finger click but other than that…bravo. Please continue to work to keep us secure.
Doesnt use the goren system , most everywhere that is the system used.
