A Glimpse into Operator 41

Help your Operator reach the telephone to call headquarters with vital intel. Vigilant guards patrol the grounds, and security cameras keep a watchful gaze. Use stealth to sneak by them. Throw objects you’ll find to distract the guards, or even knock them out – but aim and timing is everything. Operator 41 is all about sneakiness and strategy.

This stylish game has a unique look and feel that harkens back to classic 1960s spy movies and TV shows. It comes from the mind of 14 year old junior BAFTA award-winning game designer Spruce Campbell, maker of the hit game CYBER:JUMP.

We really enjoyed this game. It felt incomplete and the ending was anti-climatic. Theres no way to reset the game. We were able to solve all without seeing a walk through. We did notice 2 bugs. Upon starting up it bombed if we didnt t wait for the intro music to start up and play a few seconds. Also the character disappeared completely in the final scene of level 14 while going down the short flight of steps. We wish there were more levels. Please complete this game!

We respect the dev the games unique but it is very bugged the game is for the most part good short but good heres two bugs that ruin the game 1. Climbing a fence thats not there 2. Getting seen by a guard in a spot that he shouldnt be able to see you at As fun as it is its flawed but if you have Apple Arcade then get it your not losing much.

We loveee this game however, we wish it was not just 15 levels. We finally found the perfect game; only for it to end in 15 levels how very disappointing.

So we were playing and we were supposed to throw a flower pot and a guard was supposed to go check it out and then we could sneak past him but it he didnt go over there so he was still guarding it but when he was looking the other way we snuck past him so overall its a good game just a little bit buggy.

Cool concept. We love the music, sound effects, and look of the game. Unfortunately, by level 5 we were finding it tricky to control. And we encountered what seemed like a few bugs. One time our character slipped out of view and we couldnt go back. Another time we couldnt get him to move.

OPERATOR 41 is a very nice looking game but has downsides. Lets talk about the good things about the game first. The graphics in OPERATOR 41 is reminiscent of PlayStation 1 games, and gives of a sort of vintage feel during gameplay. The game is also very unique and entertaining, but doesnt have much of a story which we thought it would have. Now lets talk about the bad things of the game. OPERATOR 41 contains many bugs in it. For example: If you are moving quickly and try to climb, there is so animation for it. Another bug is that when you have the app running in the back round, it will stop working when you open it again. Overall OPERATOR 41 is a very unique game, but has many bugs and problems.

Maybe the game is better suited on the iPad with the larger screen. On our iPhone 12 the controls were terrible, you think you tapped on one spot and he goes somewhere else and you get caught. After a few minutes of play our phone gets hot.

We just passed level 15 and Im not able to move on to level 16. Whenever we finish level 15, we just get a gray screen that stays there and does nothing. So we tried exiting the app and going back in but it puts us at level 1 and wont give us the option to go to 16. And when we go back to 15 and try to complete it again to get level 16 it wont work and this process happens all over again. Overall the game has been really fun and we would like to keep playing if this problem is taken care of.

The Apple Arcade version stalls after level 15. It’s unclear if this is the end of the game, or a bug.

The game has an interesting concept, but we keep having to replay levels because of bugs. Sometimes the person doesnt go where we tell him to go, sometimes he climbs imaginary bushes, other times we get him where hes supposed to be, and nothing happens. Its also very frustrating that you cant zoom in or look around the rooms youre in.

This game is very tastefully designed seemingly a theme among Apple Arcade games. But the experience is buggy and others have noted, does not make good use of the 3D space.

This game should be cool because of the spy/espionage element but its not intuitive and too difficult. There arent any instructions on how to play so you have to figure it out for yourself, which can take a very long time because of getting caught by the security guards.

This game is phenomenal for a 14 year old to make. This game is horrible for an Apple Arcade game. Both of those things can be true. And they are.

This game is not complete and likely was not properly tested. Movement is glitchy camera is fixed and worthless. Only played one level before getting stuck. Not because the puzzle was at all challenging it because we literally could not move the character no matter where we tapped. If this game meets Apple Arcade standards then its looking like Apple Arcade doesnt meet our standards. Step it up.

We dont care if theyre a 14 year old, Im 13 and even Id want some criticism if our game is buggy and boring mess. Simply putting it, this game is boring and extremely buggy. Im a fan of stealth games and things that fit this style but it barely even lets you play properly. If you pick up an object to throw, you cant move until you throw it and even then you can only throw it one tile away. The menu doesnt close properly, the game feels very rushed and yet its still short. The only thing we can say the creator did really well was optimization which is basically the process of removing any unused and excess code as well as removing leftover files to shrink the size of the program. We’ve seen this kids other games and even theyre more entertaining, longer, and less buggy than this.

This game has no tutorial, no explanation, no story, clunky camera, super short content(I finished this in 20 minutes), buggy animation. We cannot believe this is an Apple Arcade game. The only thing that keeps us playing this game is our appeal to stealthy strategy games.

Maybe this game was meant for kids, but it is awfully boring. We passed some later levels with just one move! What a waste of space.

We downloaded this game because it looked cool. We opened it, watched the intro with the theme song and then the app closed. We tried again. It closed again.

Perfect game is good to play you other people that dont like the game deal with it you know ho long it took these people to make operator 41 give them some respect.

We love but it needs more levels and can you please please please make the levels a levels a bit harder, thanks for reading! :D.

Really enjoyed this relaxing but very stylish puzzler. Please make more levels.

The game in itself was entertaining. Some people are talking about The detective going the long route, however we thought that this was interesting and it added more time and effort into the game and more tapping instead of just tapping exactly where you want to go. A level creator would be very entertaining, and add much more to the game. Also, an endless mode, where there would be randomly generated maps and objectives. Some kind of style or theme change would be cool, like being able to change the guard outfit and the detectives outfit, or the color theme because the theme was kind of dull and got boring after a few minutes. These are just suggestions and we feel it would add way more to the game then their was already. We would not say that this is Apple Arcade worthy, but we do feel it could be if some things were added and changed. Definitely our type of game, we had a good short time playing this and was sad to see the ending screen.

Fun, but could be better with a camera that moves. Makes the game more difficult than what it is. Very frustrating to us that we cant move the camera around!

Needs more levels … Sure theres nothing to do but throw a an object once and a while but the simplicity is its genius.. Sneak around (kill time while youre waiting in line at post office or doctors office) its perfect.. Just way too short ADD MORE LEVELS!

This is a 3D game so it puzzles us why they wont let us turn the room around and zoom into or out of different areas. Sometimes its really hard to tap or to see the areas we need to see because the developers fixed the camera in a position that makes necessary details really small on the screen (iPhone 8 here). The basic game mechanics are fun but its kind of spoiled by being difficult for the wrong reasons, as in, tapping on the right tiny square is harder than the actual stealth puzzles.

Gameplay is simple but this is a mobile game. We enjoyed the puzzles and working our way through each level. Overall the biggest complaint is that its too short. But for an Apple Arcade game, who cares! Enjoy all the levels and move on to another game.

Make more levels! This game was great until lvl 15. It just ended. Plz fix.

We love stealth games so we were really excited to see an Apple Arcade stealth game. Its pretty fun but sometimes the game feels broken or just too unpolished. We think the phones location is sometimes unclear and its especially hard to find since the camera is fixed. We also think there is way too long of a delay when you throw pots. It just feels really slow. That aside tho this is still a game worth trying out.

This wasnt a great 20 minutes. All you have to do, more or less, is tap to the spot you want to move to, and it still controls pretty badly. Your character will frequently take the long way to the spot, or the right into guards eyes path to spot (even if another path is available). There were gated screens, but we would frequently climb over non-existent spaces several spaces away from those screens. There is an achievement for beating the game, which we did not unlock after beating the game. Im not really going to try for the two much more difficult achievements if even this simple one is broken. We feel like whomever green lit this for Arcade did so mainly because a game made by a 14yo is a selling and/or bullet point.

So basically a series of puzzles where you move the man sneaky like to get to the goal. Once you get to the goal, you get a slightly harder board. Theres no satisfaction of mission success or story or anything. Honestly we think its hear to make you feel like your arcade subscription is worth it.

Your game is a piece of $&$#$&

Wait through the intro, and then you’re stuck on the controller screen, it nothing works. Sorry, guys. Wish it did.

Excuse us? Much delay on action. Also if we wanted a game like this we would just play vandal (if you think this game is cool but buggy and too grainy check that game out its like this game but better, though its not free. Its literally just called vandal.

  • Music and visuals fit the theme well – Bad controls – No tutorial – Levels can be beaten through sheer dumb luck – No world building Overall, a brief 20 minute experience that doesnt play well. Even taking the size and experience of the team into consideration, its tough to recommend this game compared to the others currently available on Apple Arcade. 1/5.

Yes, its impressive a 14 year old wrote this – something the individual responding to the reviews seems to insist on reminding everyone of. Though the claim they did this all by themselves strains credulity. Regardless, the game is plainly lacking. The controls are often unresponsive, unreliable and inaccurate. For example, not knowing whether you were going to walk or throw the plant made each level an exercise in frustration. The levels are shallow and boring – there are a dozen turn based games such as this that execute on this concept well. We debated whether to write a critical review, but in the end, are we reviewing the game or the narrative of how it was produced? This game, regardless of its provenance, is not in itself worth downloading. At the very least, the bugs and control issues need to be attended to. Im hoping we can update this review to be 5 *s in the future, because we do want it and the author to be successful.

Very stylish, fun gameplay, want more levels!

Bravo to the kid who made this game! Short but fun.

Given that this game was written by a 14 year old, and in a very short period of time, Im quite impressed! We finished the game a few days after we downloaded it, and just read an article detailing how it came to be. Great work young man, we look forward to more levels and changes you make to the game!

Awesome job sir! We loved the gameplay and it reminded us of games we played on the Nintendo 8bit when we were young. When you read poor reviews, think of issues they address, dont take them as a personal attack. We look forward to more levels or your next games! You earned a new fan today. Good luck.

We actually enjoyed this game. You must think about it for a few min or attempt several retries to complete some levels (Not all are easy with completion on first try unless youve seen video on it already) The reason we only ranked it 4 stars is because its literally a short game. You can easily complete the whole game within 25-35 min (without failing levels) Please update and add more levels!

Though its not very long, this game is fun. People complaining about it not having a storyline clearly have never played pac man or snake or any other basic video game. With the jazz music, its quite entertaining, though most levels are pretty easy. Plus, it was made by a 14 year old so nice work kid.

It has potential to be a fun puzzler but the game controls make it very frustrating. Hey dev, keep at it.

Great game! We had a lot of fun playing it and was a little disappointed that there were only 15 levels. This game would receive a 5 star review if there were more levels. Hopefully, they are working on more levels!

We really liked this but after 10 minutes it was over. Maybe if they add a Lot more levels we can raise this to a 5/5.

We love games like this, but this game is too short, way too easy and too buggy.

Cool idea, but we can not incapsulate in words how infuriatingly broken and unresponsive the controls are. Im paying $5 a month for an essentially unplayable game. An easy fix would be giving the player camera control, but clearly whoever developed this just didnt care enough to put the effort in to make a great game. Dont get us wrong, we love the idea behind this game, but this is a glorified alpha test at best.

Super annoying long intro that crashes every time so never actually seen the game.

Great game for stealth fans. Not perfect but Im reviewing this on 9/19/19. No control over camera angle and and not enough levels. Beat it in an hour.

Has to be one of the shortest games out there!!! Its more of a demo if anything. We enjoyed all 10 minutes from start to finish.
