Othello Quest – Online Othello – Family Game Review
![]()
Othello Quest – Online Othello is a Family/Board game from Mindwalk Corp., first launched in 30th April 2014.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 221+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes Othello Quest – Online Othello Stand Out
Othello Quest is one of the largest othello (reversi) servers in the world with lots of beginners as well as world class players.
Even if you are a beginner, you don't need to worry.
There are very weak bots on the server anyone can beat with ease, so you can start from there and as your ratings improve, you can go on to stronger bots or other human players.
You can also learn othello strategies with the built-in "How to Win at Othello" tutorial that covers everything from basic tips to advanced techniques.
You can also play a non-rated game with your friends.
All features are available for free.
※Important notes:
Please play in areas with good network conditions.
Devices that cannot be used in portrait mode (such as TVs) will not display correctly.

Community Insight:
Play all the time, ranking is interesting, very challenging and fun to play real players as well as bots.
Lots of skilled players on the website if your goal is to get stronger play on this app.
Ads are too much. We get that that pays for the app, but we would happily pay to be ad free. Why is there still 2-3 hours a day when 1 min games are offline??? Otherwise, great platform.
When our connection is bad, we lose the time, when the opponent has a bad connection, they get their time back. Even on a good connection time is lost, where the opponent barely loses a minute and you lose 2+ minutes. No way they are playing faster.
This is by far the best version of diversity that you can get for free online. It allows you to play other players, and there are no delays in getting an opponent. Other versions have an extremely long wait time for an opponent, or it is only against a computer that is either impossible to beat or way too easy to beat.
Always someone to play with at your level or stronger.
There are all these lower rated players that are as good as high rated players that just take your rating down because they take so many points away when they beat you. We dont know what the purpose is. They have to be put in by the developers. Its so bad that it makes the game really frustrating and not as fun. We wish someone would develop an Othello app that is much better so everyone would migrate from this one. Been playing this game for years, and the only reason we use this app is because its the best place to play good players.
The top players on this app are actually world champs, worth the download. Has a nice list of preferences, teaches you which opening work for you and has endgame practice and an easy match and rating system. We Like that it dosent have a move timer, this way we can distribute how we spend on each part of the game how we see fit. Couple of suggestions: add a 10 and 20 minute table for more in-depth games. We understand that it may take longer to match, but people will not get frustrated if you just leave a warning that it may take longer to match based on the amount of users playing.
Great fun to play. The numerical ranking system is not easily understandable, but probably fair. It would be nice to know the nationality of your opponent and have the ability to say hello and thanks for the game.
This game is awful. High scoring players cheat on time delaying play until the time is to short. Also the game says you are out of time before you really are. All this results in a loss. Find another game.
Why is there still 2-3 hours a day when 1 min games are offline??? Otherwise, great platform.
This is a great game for advancing quick thinking in othello. Pairs you up with other players of random rank. Our only problem is the huge amount of time that the 1 minute game is under maintenance it seems like half the time we go on the game it is unavailable to play. This is super frustrating and we end up not playing because of it.
Why are there only 1 and 5 minute options? How about a 45 second table and a 90 second table? Why does it say we won or lost by so many points? Just display how many black and how many white. It is not good to label a player by winner or loser, and the game moderator had no right to judge by how many points we have won or lost. Why player cant quit if the opponent is stalling and wasting time? Player should be able to quit at any time. Why if accidentally we play the wrong move, why cant we request a take-back? And if opponent timer runs out but the game is interesting; we should be able to allow opponent t to continue on an additional minute. So, if opponent t timer runs out: timer should ask, do you want to extend opponents timer and then ask the opponent, would you like to accept the expended time allowed by player to finish the game? Also, allow player to request additional time, then opponent would choose yers or no and how many seconds.
Gameplay is easy, automatic matching is very fair, ratings are done well, and there are plenty of features that make playing and FINISHING games easier/more enjoyable. Those features include automatic reconnection to game if you disconnect (d/c) due to reception or whatever (even if app crashes which has never happened to us), automatic win if your opponent d/cs and doesnt return, automatic game time limits, and no options to abandon game (only options = resignation, timeout, or d/c loss …or win of course). Your opening techniques, stats, and game records are all saved for easy review of games. This is especially nice since you get a password assigned that you can use on other devices to automatically load your account for play across multiple devices. Theres a problem set for study. You can even enter tournaments. Plus, the ads arent even very disruptive. The one downside that prevents us from giving 5 stars is that theres no decent helpfile to explain little things, like why are different usernames different colors, or why is some text green and some black or grey on our records page. What does that stuff mean? That would basically make this the perfect reversi app. We definitely recommend it! P.S. FYI, theres no chatting.
Bad graphic. But, in this app online network, there are so many good players. And high leveled players play too. If you wanna play othello hard, get this app.
While the rating system may be a bit convoluted, and the matches are a little restrictive on time options (no 30 seconds per move per side – only 5 minute or 1 minute sudden death) this is still one of the best live game platforms we have found for Reversi. Waits for live-player games are almost always brief, and while you have no choice over the the opponents you are matched against, the mixture makes wins a reasonable possibility, depending on your skill level. Our only real complaint would be against players who rudely take advantage of the limited time options to force you to wait until their 5-minute timer terminates in order to collect on your winning position. Suggestion: Adding the missing timing option mentioned above would eliminate that possibility, since moves not completed in 30 seconds would end the match.
