Player Experience Highlights

Community Insight:

Game by a stellar game designer.

5 stars for a really unique puzzle like element added onto the traditional 2d roguelike. Also extra points for having a click to do combat mode, like seriously good job, not that many people put that much consideration into their games on here.

We absolutely love this game, have averaged 19.60 so far, but we were on another run to potentially eclipse that score and the game forced us into a score of 0 by placing the only ring we could get to in a dead end with Doom, which requires two rings. So three moves and Im trapped, no other movement options, game over, our score tanked. Ive played a couple hundred games and this has never happened before, but it shouldnt regardless.

Finally starting to click with this after about a week of fiddling with it…. From the looks of it, even though Im fairly familiar with MBs games and know how different each one is, we thought this might be just a sort of expansion of the Cinco Paus formula. And of course, we were way off. At the beginning of each game, you pick which character out of 9 to start with, but with each move, your character changes depending on direction (if you move up, your changes to the one above whoever you are ATM, left, the left character, etc…). Youll need to collect rings in order to attack (done by swiping with 2 fingers instead of one), and how you attack is dependent on which character you are currently (shown below the character icons la Cinco Paus). Its really quite a simple mechanic which has a surprising amount of depth, and as usual with almost all of Broughs games, Im questioning why no one has done it previously. He really does have a knack when it comes to taking simple ideas and turning them into complex works, and we think that what Michael Brough has done here is really a great starting point if youve never played one of his games before, even if youre new to the whole Roguelike genre. Were incredibly lucky to have such a talented development wizard creating games for our phones. Each one offering endless hours of entertainment thats both challenging and incredibly fun. And, like so many other aspects of this title, the difficulty/balancing has been tuned to perfection just like each of his previous offerings. We can not recommend it enough, especially for the newcomers. Great job.

P1 Select might be our favorite game from Michael Brough. Other candidates: 868-HACK and Zaga-33, which unfortunately has not been ported to 64-bit and cannot be played on modern iOS devices. P1 was frustrating for us until we looked at a guide for less than a minute, then it clicked. The dense, alien UI becomes intuitive and obvious but wont be at first. Whether you figure it out without help, read all of a guide, or just peek at some help to get an initial boost, its important to note P1 has a steep initial curve. Theres no tutorial included. Advice for Brough: This is a hurdle likely keeping some away. Maybe? Gaming aesthetic/philosophy vs. More mainstream access. …Discuss.

Its less intensive than the previous games but no less satisfying to master. After 100+ hours its still satisfying to play.

Brough is a master. Cant get to 20 yet.

Ive spent so much time on Broughs games, theyre all fantastic! Just a quick control suggestion, do you think you could make it so when you attack instead of swiping with both fingers you only swipe with one finger, with the other finger staying still (but still pressing the screen), its just a bit easier to do.

Fantastic mechanic, area too confined to really explore it.

One handed brain burner that rewards careful planning. Bad graphics seem to be his brand but its growing on us. No manual, intro, help file, etc. This is a game for real men. Also no hidden fees or pay walls.

Elegant but far too stripped down.

Great addition from an already great developer. Im only deducting a star because for some reason it isnt optimized for newer screens.

This game is initially a bit harder to get into, but quickly becomes rich and addictive, all in a small package. If you like his other games, youll be into this:).

Brough is an awesome designer and this one doesnt disappoint. The mechanic is mind bending at first, but it sinks in and soon youre planning three moves in advance. Super cool.
