Hear from the Players – Phantasmat: Behind the Mask (Full) Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Phantasmat: Behind the Mask (Full):

Dracyy and Izzyoc covered everything, this truly is an amazing game. We’re a senior on limited income and we’ve blown a lot of $3.99’s over the months since play before you pay disappeared for the new releases. This one we would have gladly paid full price for. We loved the fact that in the HO scenes there is the opportunity to switch to Match 3, handy for tired eyes. Also when the deals pop up we find that we’ve played most of them already, so a brand new game is refreshing.

Great game, kept our interest, long, no glitches. We prefer the original ERS style of the earlier games in this series though.

Graphics, puzzles, storyline all a great game. Words were small for the iPhone but overall a game for everyone. Can’t wait for the next game.

After a couple of duds with defects which we asked for refunds (don’t do that very often) this one is great so far. Tech side seems good, story is interesting, and graphics are great. Love it when the app directly incorporates your identity into the story line. Definitely recommend. Hope Big Fish is back on track as the quality has slipped recently.

We rarely give a game five stars, but this one’s one of our top five, for sure. Creepy, challenging, long… Loved it. Worth every penny. Note: Someone else called it disturbing, and there are some dark themes here. Just an FYI.

We purchased this base on reviews something we wouldn’t generally do …… We are so glad we did finally a unique game.

The game was kinda scary and the puzzles were original and challenging enough to play again at the end of the game. The length of the game was just right and it had everything we like to see in a Big Fish Game. Morphing, collections, puzzles, neat story line, maps to make getting around faster, interesting characters. A great game overall. Enjoy.

One of the best we have played in a long time. Some of the mini games are not clear, but other than that worth the $.

This is the best game we have ever played!!! It was a mixture of creepiness and awesomeness~ totally worth buying!

This game has it all. We loved the story, it was creepy, funny, and entertaining. There were HOS that were crystal clear with match 3 if you decide you’d like that better. There were also a bunch of different kinds of puzzles interspersed within the game that were great fun. And if that’s not enough, there are morphing objects, rocking horses you have to find in each scene and collectibles too. The game is a good length, as well as the bonus chapter. More games like this would be very welcome.

Thanx for the heads-up, Izzyoc (and Dracyy) and for telling us about upcoming games. We just wanted to let everybody know that we really handed BigFish their heads on a platter, for the whole Puppet Show debacle. We accepted NO EXCUSES and NO GENERALIZED ANSWERS! We threatened them, basically. So Puppet Show is no longer available. For those of you who bought it, ERS is working to fix it and then will bring it out when it is working properly. They tried and brought out another version but it did not fix the problem, and obviously BigFish doesn’t seem to be on their case to fix it! So don’t worry about it for now! On to Phantasmat. We were concerned about playing it because the subject matter (murdering family and using their remains, such as bones and ashes, in their artistic endeavors) is truly gruesome and macabre! This game is not for children! When we played it, it was such a fantastic game that we felt the same way as both Dracyy and Izzyoc. The storyline held our interest. There are 3 difficulty settings, although there is no option to customize the settings. It was a decently long game and had a bonus adventure. The graphics were eerily gorgeous and very crisp and clear. The cut-scenes were chilling and quite frightening! At each location you collect a rocking horse and at some you collect a morphing object, and there is an indicator which tells you when you have them. The morphing collectibles allow you to access portfolios of the Ward family. There were many locations and loading WAS instantaneous (for a change) between locations! There is an in-game marked (dependent on settings) teleport map to use. You learn the story via notes, and objectives were regularly updated. Inventory is labeled and interactive and there are complex items to assemble. The HO scenes had variation, and if you preferred not to play the scene you could play match-3 instead. We actually enjoyed the puzzles in this game; there were some new ones and they weren’t only boring rotational junk! Our actual rating is 4.5 stars, and we deducted half a star due to lack of a cohesive journal. The game ran smoothly and we did not encounter any glitches. This game was extremely clever and we enjoyed it immensely. We even bravely fed the mouse and thought that it was kind of cute (EIPIX did not torture us too much!) Of course we will deny EVER saying a mouse was cute, lol! Lynxie sends lots of to the intrepid, fabulous and hard-working Dream Team Elite! Keep up the great work, and please also keep pestering BigFish to get Puppet Show updated. The more we annoy them, the more pressure they will have to do it! We cannot do it alone, although we really have tried! Please Dracyy, KimTwilight, Izzyoc, Opinion, Sunshine Susie, Deana M and Catalina, keep sending nasty emails to BigFish. A lot of people bought the game and it is unplayable! What will it take for ERS to finally update it?

Eipix game but no loading between scenes yay! As with the rest in this series (each plays as stand alone) this game appears to be of a decent length! Small occasional vermin in HO, has match 3 alternative for some HO. Well drawn and the plot is very dark and twisted. Not recommended for younger players (themes of murder, masochism and adult violence) however the violence thankfully isn’t re-enacted in full gory detail. You are invited to a family reunion but find yourself suddenly hunted by an insane murderous posse of ghosts every one of which wants you dead…. Like all their other victims! Can you exorcise them in time to escape? Verdict: buy!

We hope they make the sequel soon.

We love this game great graphics beatiful atmosphere and we especially love all the videos ( just the right amount of challenge ) and the fact that with the hidden object scenes you can play a match 3 game to help you thx for this game and good goin whoever made this 5 stars from me.

We’ve played hundreds of these games but have rarely been compelled to write a review. This game is so different from the normal horror HOGs. It’s more creepy with silhouettes showing past killings and a little boy who constantly sings in rhyme. Not your normal blood smeared HOG which tries to be scary but usually falls way short. This has an awesome story line, ok length ( like 4-5 hours), great transporting map which also accurately tells you where something needs to be done as well as fun puzzles. You collect morphing objects and rocking horses if that’s your thing. Definitely may be our favorite Phantasmat and in our over all top 10!

Thank you Dracyy. Because of your review we bought the game and thoroughly enjoyed playing. Key West Jessa.

Good graphics, good story. But best of all, there’s great frequency of hidden object games and puzzles throughout. Also, wonderful short-cut ‘paths’ to move from scene to scene later in the game. Finally, and best of all, you get the ability to replay all hidden object scenes and puzzles after completing the game. Once the Bonus Game has been played, those HOPs and puzzles are added to those you can play. Not all Big Fish games do this, but it really makes one feel one got ones money’s worth! Finally, the writing/English usage is better than most. We’ll be looking for more Big Fish-Epix collaborations in the future and hope the sequel to this game will be out soon.

We’ll be honest – we wasn’t expecting to like this game. When Eipix takes over a game from another developer (like ERS in this case), it usually loses some of the atmosphere of the series. But this one is still delightfully creepy (and slightly disturbing). The story – joy of joys, we are not a detective but simply someone who has been invited to a family reunion by a long-lost cousin! Once you arrive, everything seems a little off kilter, and gets weirder as time goes on. No rats so far, but one explosion of bats early on. We are enjoying unraveling the mystery behind our cousin and wacky cast of characters we meet. The game mechanics: like all Eipix games, there’s no custom mode of play. Transportable map that shows where actions are needed. There’s very little lag moving from scene to scene, even with our first generation iPad mini. Good variety in HOGs. The goodies: Collectable rocking horses in each scene (an icon reminds you whether or not you’ve found it). Some scenes have morphing objects, and nicely enough they’ve also included an icon to let you know when there’s one to find. Upcoming Games from Big Fish Games: Dark Parables: Goldilocks and the Fallen Star (3.4 stars, Eipix, Nov. ’15) Cadenza: Havana Nights (3.9 stars, Mad Head, Mar ’16) Ominous Objects: Trail of Time (3.5 stars, Daily Magic, Dec ’15) Midnight Calling: Jeronimo (4.1 stars, Elephant Games, Jun. ’16) Secrets of the Dark: Flower of Shadow (2.9 stars, Orneon, July ’14) Secret Order: Buried Kingdom (4.4 stars, Sunward Games, May ’16) A fix for that glitchy Puppetshow game should be coming out soon!

According to Madhead’s Facebook site, Episode 4 of "Adam Wolfe" will be released through the App Store within "the following days." Stay tuned and check often if you plan on playing! Wow! We didn’t know that we were in the food catering business! We love the twist of incorporating our name into the game. The plot is ordinarily dreadful and portentous, and it does not foster any new ideas or concepts; however, the story maintains our attention as a faithful admirer of horror. The ambiance is typically harrowing and ghastly as you meet your suspicious and formidable extended family at a decrepit, run-down manor; upon your dismay, the exit door pulls a disappearing act and locks you in, which forces you to save yourself from the pits of doom. The scenery/sound effects are highlighted through an exorbitant amount of macabre imagery and pandemonium, such as the gargoyle statues with piercing eyes; a piano hauntingly playing by itself; the menacing laughter and convoluted, lullaby-like rhymes of tortured souls; the creepy stares of contorted masks; the hanging skeletal remains of animals; and your nerve-racking visions of murder and mayhem. As is quintessential with this developer, the graphics are insufficient in quality and presentation; they visually appear chapped and unpolished, which are indications of inferior craftsmanship. The color scheme is overwhelmed with a recycled and mundane bluish background containing little variation of additional interfused shades. As is customary with this developer, you are denied the opportunity to customize your settings; this setback is an archaic practice since player usability is abated. This lack of customized settings adversely affects the teleport map; in second mode, there are no indications of available actions. The inventory is labeled and interactive; items require assembly. On the contrary, Eipix outperforms other developers in other contexts. The HOS are plenteous in quantity; pioneering in nature; intricate in form and discovery. They include advanced techniques, such as multi-layered sequences, where one form transitions into another. Some of the puzzles are crafty and original in both presentation and simplicity; their actions and themes blend into the premise rather suitably. Transition between scenes is effortless; no stalling here. Textual info is acquired by collecting parcels of scattered reading materials, thereby denying the chance to refresh your memory of story progression. Both sets of collectibles are fairly conspicuous in placement; respective collection indicators are implemented. An exasperating nuisance is that upon selecting the incorrect inventory item, a clamorous, dinging noise consistently resonates that drives us to the point of madness; we have to play with the volume almost completely turned off. In addition, we feel like we’re being pulled back and forth between pacification and yearning referring to the high level of creativity and the scarcity of elementary structural settings. We would like to close out this review with an acknowledgment that we were denied a new game on Monday; they overextended the last two games by about a week, which did little to supplement BF’s shortfalls. We hope we begin to steer in the right direction with some high-quality, worthy games.

We are reviewing before we finished the game. We have to say that this is one of the most disturbing games Big Fish has offered. You are locked in a house with evil sick ghosts who may be your relatives. You will come across Infanticide ( the baby cried too much), masochism, and demented ghosts who find creative ways to use dead bodies. However, this macabre game is interesting , great HOGs, mini-games, and a good map. You also have a match game option during some of the HOGs. We are not sure how this will end. If you don’t mind the disturbing content and like interesting challenges, our advice is to buy it.

Well thought-out mini-games; very enjoyable.

The game works perfectly. We did not like the darkness and gore. We have played all the other installments and while they are pretty dark, just not that bad.

We enjoyed this game. The story line is interesting. The hidden objects scenes and puzzles are varied, but not too difficult. We count that as a plus and a minus. We normally play once on Easy and then on Hard to get all of the Achievements, but there aren’t many achievements and they aren’t difficult to achieve. Play time was good, not too short if you’re a casual player.

Just the same old oil can here, jump between rooms to find obvious things. We bought it and stopped halfway through. Eipix games are very pretty but DULL.

The beginning of this story was very interesting, but then it started to drag on. This is one of the longer games we’ve played, but that only means there is a lot of repetitive tasks. A lot of the HOP’s have you repeatedly looking for morphing objects, which we found boring. We like a game that provides more mini games. Disappointed.

We got this game on 11/2 showed as 1.0.0 then and again today? Same game and when u click on version: says 1.0.0 just like the first one. Some people will pay again, if they don’t remember buying it already ( as we did about 4-5 weeks ago. It should be version 1.0.1 while it does say updated, u do not reference the original date released and no warning. We can think of no valid reason this is happening then simply to make more money. If we are wrong, please explain to us. Thanks.

It’s downright evil. Sad. Depressing.

We’ve played Big Fish games for years and enjoyed the majority of them. However, we take issue with this one as it incorporates infanticide into its limp plot. Please, do not use children as hostages or child murders in games. Our society is sick enough as it is.
