We played these games as a kid and we loved them, this app has done an amazing job porting these games to a mobile device, everything works and plays great. We get a great sense of nostalgia and joy when playing this game. For anyone who likes old school rpgs or anyone looking for a good adventure to get into we highly recommend this app, well worth the price. Great job developers!

Love this app! Out love for these games run deep. Thank you!

PS2 was copied by FF7. Before there was Arieth, there was Nei. Still gets us in the feels. PS3 tests your endurence. We have achieved all 8 endings. Never played and beat 4. We cant wait.

Always loved these games…. So glad to play them again.

Been a phantasy star for a long time its nice to play these when your out doing stuff and cant get on phantasy star 2 on line its a nice kick back to inch the rpg crave.

We love being able to play these games again. The only thing missing is the first game, having that added would make this truly great. The game play is just as a remember and it just as much fun as the first time we played these games.

We remember that we played PS2 on our friend’s Mega Drive. His father did a lot of international travel and bought it for him. Sure, it was in Japanese, but we didn’t care. We never saw anything like it before; we fell in love with it. A few years later, we brought a Genisis from our friend, and wouldn’t you know, he threw in PS2. We played it non-stop for years to level everyone up. When we saw this was available for iPhone and Ipad, we had to get it. It is precisely how we remember it being we’re falling in love with PS2 all over again. Thank you to the developers. Please work on the Segs Ages remake of PS1 and 2.

Takes us back to the old grinding instead of pay to play.

Fun, easy controls and great to play again.

Thanks, we bought this for our kids a million years ago. We always thought it looked like fun and its not just point and click, but one must reason to advance. We are playing 2 right now and can not believe we received other games also. A real classic and now its our turn. Thanks Sega!

This trilogy is great but we want the original from master system please.

We thoroughly enjoy it on late night gaming fears.

Love this and all but it doesnt have the first game on it, if it did, Then we wouldve given the full 5 stars.

Got pretty far in and haven’t been able to connect to the games server to load our game for a couple months now kinda bummed and reluctant to start a new one.

Been playing for about a month and for some reason when we take on neifirst, the game just goes on round by round and we cant heal our players other than that still a fun game.

The games are good we use to own them on sega Genesis now we have a problem with the games not linking to the server we need this fixed asap we are trying to beat the games like we did when we had the genesis this is getting ridiculous because we payed for the games we expect to load our saved data and we cant now please fix this problem.

Since SEGA is phasing out Sega Forever, last we tried logging in, the save feature would not log in. If you havent finished these games before they fall out of support entirely, buy the game, and use the games in-game save feature locally. It still works glitch-free. As an emulation, it is nearly flawless on modern phones. We have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. SNES cornered the market on JRPGs in the 90s, but SEGA was always out to prove they are the little company that could compete. We wont play the SNES Final Fantasy games because of the almost non existent battle animation. These are beautiful games (unfortunately except for PS3), that make us happy to take a journey into 4th generation gaming. We recommend starting with the 4th game, as it is straightforward, accessible, and the best designed. If you had fun, try Phantasy Star 2, where the story for 4 starts. It is less refined, and has ridiculously complex mazes you will need a map for, but it was very ambitious for its time and has a cool sci fi look. The 3rd entry was made by a side developer and has little to do with the main story. Check it out as a curiosity with generational characters, but it can be skipped without missing much. The story is relatable with modern tech at first, but also goes into how overdependance on tech can weaken a people.

Its great to get 3 games. But where is the good ole original???? Lucky we still have our master system to play it on.

If there is an interruption with you internet or some other problem, your save will be clobbered. Can result in huge setbacks.

Freezes a lot, we are now only able to move character or do anything on game if we hold down the b button on screen . So hold b, plus whatever action you want to do it is beyond irritating . Devs take forever to respond, its been 24 hrs and it still hasnt been fixed .

Appears the app has lost support. You can no longer log into game center, so apple wont save your game data. That makes the game pretty much pointless to play. Wait until they fix this bug.

We wanted to pick this up again. Played a lot last year and had saved games. Tried to restore our saved games from Game Center and getting the unable to connect to Game Center message. Interestingly enough the restore purchases function works as well as the paid remove ads option.

We love this game but its an embarrassment that the developers cant code an app that reliably saves our progress. As it stands, if we tap through the save game menus excruciatingly slowly, so as not to confuse them, it usually saves successfully. But we’ve wasted a lot of time when our save game operation fails, AND freezes at the connecting screen so we cant continue to play. Not to mention the few months after an update broke the save feature altogether, making the game unplayable (they finally fixed it, sort of). Playing via emulator is definitely the way to go.

Its hard to get into an RPG when you cant save your progress.

You can play and save your game but then the Game Center wont let you sign in and you cant access your saved game file. Total waste of 40+ hours! Complete waste of $5!

Save function doesnt work rendering the game unplayable.

It worked great before. Im not sure what you did but now we get sound and a black screen. Unplayable obviously.

They either need to update this or take it off the App Store. You cant save your game . On a rpg.

The game requires you to sign in to save. No matter how good our connection or restarting our phone we cannot sign in. We would like our money back tbh. We would rate it 0 stars if we could.

The game was a little more ad free when we bought it. Boooooo!!!

No matter how many times we try restarting the app, restarting our phone, reinstalling the app the game will not load! Please fix!

Game will not recognize Apple Game Center login, so no saving progress. What a waste.

The game will not connect to servers, and cant be saved. On a game that takes as many hours as these 3 do, that makes the game unplayable we contacted support, and was asked to delete game, and dl again. That wiped all our save states on all games. Hours and hours lost In the end, support marked our ticket competed and said look for update, without solving anything, or even saying sorry.

Saving no longer supported in current build not playing rubles planning to log 20 hours to win without a crash . This is the game that made the RPG our favorite genre. From its opening chords and introductory story to the first venture out of the city into a world that could very quickly destroy you we were completely taken by the world of Algo. The 16 bit 1989 Manga style artwork in this game is lush, meticulous, and painstakingly elegant in its portrayal of your attempt to discover the cause of a computer controlled ecosystem gone seriously wrong. You begin with exploring what was a Dune like desert world now transformed into a lush forested area populated by biospheres and fight through giant ants, mosquitoes, and praying manta as you seek the answer to what has unleashed such havoc. HINTBOOK The game originally shipped with a very helpful Official Hintbook with introductory instructions, item and spell descriptions, basic maps, and layering of hints so that much of the game could be discovered on ones own. This hintbook has been preserved at the Phantasy Star Pages website and elsewhere on google. With an occasional hint from this guide, the game is highly accessible and requires little time to become acquainted with. There is also a great wikipedia page. PLAYABILITY The game is ported well and is very enjoyable to play on the iPhone given the menu systems ease of use in turn based battle and in world actions. That said, it is one of the most challenging games we’ve played, both on the iPhone and of its era. Expect a lot of time exploring and carefully building up strength before taking on new areas that can quickly overwhelm you, so save as often as possible in the cities, and even consider making a trip home to save before entering a new area where enemies may be much stronger. We never felt the need to grind up levels or money before going out to explore, we just had to make sure we were exploring the right places. The gameplay is excellently balanced to make it very challenging. We found navigating the dungeons are difficult enough we had to pay careful attention to where we were not to get too lost, but never had to draw maps like in PS1. The music is enjoyable at first, but we find that we turn it off after playing the same dozen or so 16 bit midi songs, and listen to our own music on our iPhone. There are reports of the game freezing, but we haven’t encountered this myself. STORYLINE (No Spoilers) The story slowly reveals itself in comments made by towns people, a few major game events, and is rich considering its release in 1989. There are a number of great plot twists which we wont spoil. There is just enough story to keep things interesting and give purpose to exploration, but fighting and exploration of new dungeons and world(s) in order to solve questions in the plot are the main bulk of the game, which will easily take 60 hours to complete without a walkthrough. RECOMMENDATIONS we recommend trying to do as much as you can without looking for help, and then use the hintbook with its layers of hints. Keep talking to people, if youre not sure where to go, go back to the most recent new town you found and talk to them first. Theres definitely a few things we wasnt able to figure out, so looking at the hintbook can help when youre really stuck, but try to solve it on your own, and make that A-HA! Moment so much better. Taking time to really explore on your own will also ensure youre getting enough experience and cash to be prepared for the next encounters. This would be an enjoyable game for a fan of Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Ultima, Might and Magic, and other dungeon crawlers and classic RPGs. Its unique and captivating style, polished playability, balanced difficulty, and story set it apart as a truly Great Game. We give this game our highest recommendation to anyone interested in a challenging and artful immersion into a meticulously crafted and beautiful science fiction universe. We have no conflicts of interest to disclose, and no connection to Sega or any of the other mentioned games or websites. Enjoy!

Sega used to be a good company. However, they removed Shining Forces II after we paid for it. Was told they would return it and we would get it back. Now it is a freemium game and we cannot play it without ads. They also removed The Cave which we paid for. Now, the ad free for Phantasy Star II and III just got restored after months and this is not the first time they messed with it. Free Advice. Buy nothing from Sega!!!!

Unless you plan on playing this game from start to finish when you open it, dont waste your time. We actually paid for the ad free, which makes it is even worse that we cannot save the game. They have a support button that allows you to put in a support ticket, however we have never received a response. The game works but you can not save your game, which means it starts from the beginning each time. We dont recommend wasting your time or your money on this. Its too bad because this used to be a favorite game of ours!

Huge Phantasy Star and SEGA Genesis fan, games seem fine but what is NOT fine is the ad system. The games are free but you are forced to watch ads to save your game. Even if you pay to remove these ads (like me) you still are prompted with an advertisement for SEGAs other App Store games. Disgusting behavior in our opinion. Id like to just enjoy our game. Honestly, youre probably better off emulating and saving the money or time wasted on the ad-dilemma, but Im lazy and having the three games in this app with the option to save anywhere is convenient.

We downloaded the game and paid five dollars to have ads removed. We shouldve tried to save our progress before paying for the ads. Im not able to save progress. Even going into the game Center to try and save does not work. We sent a support ticket and they got back with us and said, we are aware of the problem and are working to fix it. Please keep an eye out for updates to this problem. Then they also told us, we will consider this matter rectified. We will reach out back to you if we have any other questions. What does that even mean.? And now reading previous reviews this is a major problem with this game. This is a problem that goes back for 4 even 5 years. We cannot recommendDownloading this game. Its been a wasted time and a waste of money.

Dont get us wrong g, the games are fantastic, but the apps are horrid. We downloaded this and the Shining Force Classics apps, and after about a week Im having nothing but sign in issues with both, so we cant save or load. Just download an emulator and stop giving these clowns your time or money until they stop pushing broken garbage.

Not sure if this problem is exclusive to the free version, but for some reason it refuses to log us into the game center service which is required to save. Therefore, without the option to save our progress there is (sadly) little reason for us to try and play these titles. Additionally, we’re reluctant to purchase the games because if the problem persists we just wasted money on an unusable product.

We couldnt save so we deleted the app to re-download it. The problem was we already spent 5 bucks to get all the versions without ads but when deleting we then had to pay again, worst yet we could still not even save a game.

It froze on the title screen!!!

Same issue with shining force. It doesnt allow you to log into the Game Center so cant really save/load your progress. Please fix the bug!

Why? It ruins the rest who wants to play 2-4 and not 1. We have it on Switch but we cannot record a let’s play.

These games are trash. We watch a commercial and our controller gives out.

It’s really hard to recommend this game… We mean, we really love the phantasy star series. But the times we would pull this app out are exactly the times when it won’t let us access the save game feature. Like in road trips or on airplanes. And this is the kind of game where you’d always want access to those saves. If you’re not online, you don’t have access to your save files. It’s available on the GBA if you have access to used copies, and that’s probably the better way to go. But offline games should probably always have offline save slots. We’ll need other games for travel.

We’ve looked at countless online forums only to finally see that several people have mentioned how they cant save their games. Theres no point to playing this if you cant save. This goes for other RPG games of theirs too.
