Pokémon TCG Live Review
Great way to learn to play the TCG. We use this app for practicing our decks before regionals. We really like that its on a mobile device now. We would def recommend this to any true Pokmon fan. Some people are salty because its different from the Pc version but in life we adapt and evolve and this app has done just that. Love it!
People love to wine about what wrong with this game its is very fun it does run a little slow but its worth it if you like the card game youll love this.
We like how this is separate from the desktop version. Its well done, neat, better ingame currency, and this leaves the opportunity for different game modes outside the original TCG. This game got potential. Our only issue is when we leave the app for a few seconds and the game freezes.
We really have love for this game. Except when Im placing damage counters and swipe out of the app.
It wont let us make an account it says our password is good but we press go and it doesnt work and we kept trying but still it wont work please give us feedback on what we should do we really want to play.
Im glad this came out. We enjoy playing it. We never knew how to play the ptcgo on our phone cuz we could never find out how and now we can play this one and so much fun especially the creat charectors.
For the most part the game runs the way it is supposed to. From our own personal experiences with the game, if you flip to another app or screen on your phone for too long, Pokemon TCG Live will freeze and youll have to restart the app in order to get it to work again. Other than that, we really hope the games screen is optimized for iPhones because there is some graphical cutoff with the display.
We could see this game success replacing the original TCG online easily and we love that its available for our phone now! Just wish the iPad version would stop crashing. Its fine on the phone but we enjoy playing on our iPad more for fine print purposes(easier to read cards for me) we just wish it wouldnt crash every 2 minutes. But once thats fixed we see this taking off. Id still recommend downloaded especially if youre just playing on your phone the. You should be perfectly fine. If youre on your iPad we guess just be cautious until they patch the bug.
This is a great implementation of the Pokmon Trading Card Game. It does all the things it should in terms of game-play. It costs nothing extra unless you have zero self control, and you can still compete on a relatively level playing field against those who do spend real money on virtual cards. The main downside is that it heats your phone up QUICKLY (which isnt good) and can drain your battery in a few games. Another critique is that the sorting and filtering system for deck building needs some work (sort by HP, attack damage, energy types within card text, etc.), but it gets the job done.
We have noticed our phone overheating while playing multiple battles and it seems to really drain the battery. We think that is an issue that must be addressed for the game to be great. We also miss the ability to battle without it being a live match that is timed. We think its harder to practice and read all the cards and really think out your move. We think the main issue is the battery/overheating. Still the new looks are very cool and the cards look great and the game is fun and can help you learn how to battle and build a strong deck. We enjoy the game and think this is a step in the right direction!
Good game play but needs to be optimized to ios so our phone dont blow up plz.
This is definitely an overall great game. It teaches you how to play and there is no pay to play. You get great opportunities to use the in-store credit to buy cards and booster packs. The only thing that irks us is whenever we are in a match and we switch from Wi-Fi to using our data which can disrupt the game and cause a loss. Also this game drains a lot of battery. Luckily, we have an iPad that is great on battery life so that makes up for it. This game is very addicting and you will build a love and hate relationship but we think that is what makes it so addictive. Lastly, its a great tool to help you get familiar with real life Pokmon TCG.
Bug in question is it keeps changing our red clear lenses glasses to a pair of teal glasses randomly. We have to keep fixing it back. Leave our glasses alone game, we need them to see! Also a recommendation is you know that card exchange system where you use the credits to get extra cards you already own? Maybe add onto that where you can also grab cards you dont own but only regular cards and not anything over powerful like V star or something. Like for example we need Smoliv card line, like allow us to grab one Smoliv and one of the final evolution as we already have the midstage? We are currently using a psychic and grass themed deck. So yeah, just a neat suggestion. Cause we definitely need to save up gems or whatever you call the currency used for packs and such for premium stuff. You could make it so a little more credits are used to get the first card that the players dont have but not over done. Also fix them bugs too. Thats always important.
Love this game as it is a great way to learn and play Pokmon TCG! Would love to see the improvement of battery consumption. This game seriously drains our battery! We have an iPhone 14 pro and our friends have Galaxy Z Folds. For one full 20-30 minute game it would probably take 15-20% of our battery. And of course would love to see more content added in the future. Overall play this game everyday but get tired of grinding daily challenges.
We enjoy the game a lot and Im happy they finally have a playable version for iPhone. The core game is fun but theres a lot of missing features. The battle pass takes a long time to level up and the rewards arent nearly as good as the old online system was. Theres only 2 daily challenges also with minimal rewards. More packs in the battle pass and more challenges to complete are necessary. Players dont receive nearly enough currency to purchase packs or deals unless you save up for weeks of playing everyday. Theres no way to purchase packs without this special currency and no way to continually earn the currency either. Theres not enough ways to earn new cards and the game gets stale playing the same thing every time. The ranking system is really underwhelming, the reward increase very minimally as you progress, the tiers dont have a big affect if any at all on your rewards, and Im usually matched with someone over/under 2-300 points from us. Theres no contests or tournaments or special challenges to compete in. Theres also no unlimited deck battles just standard and expanded. We like the game but we will get bored and stop playing in a week.
Overall its not a bad game we just kinda felt like we were rushed with it its cool to give the idea for good cards start up but we wish it just started simple like TCGO.
The game has all the potential to be a really solid game. But it needs A LOT of optimization work and a way to run smooth. We have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and the game quickly heated our phone up and it was laggy. Im giving it 3 stars and we hope you guys focus on fixing these issues quickly so we can start purchasing in-game currency!
Our devices heat up faster for a game with unnecessary game mechanics, such as the character animations, and terrible graphics. The deck system, albeit less complicated, took away a lot of the features in TCGO that we enjoyed. For anyone who works on this game, please add the feature to allow players to migrate their data back to TCGO. Or at least a legacy setting that lets older players to play with a version of the game they were more familiar with. Honestly, we dont know why this game exists if the old one had better mechanics. And although the character models were nothing compared to this, the main takeaway from Pokmon TCG is that its a card game, not dress up for fashion show.
Please add where if you are playing against friends you gain XP. Us and our friends battle just like we would if we played a match randomly with someone so why should that be treated any differently. Also sometimes cards that can be used dont get highlighted or we cant pull certain cards from our deck into play like we should be able to. Really fun game but has some bugs still. We wish fairy type was still available to be used. Also updated the avatars, they do NOT look good. More color options for hairyou dont even have an actual brown colored hair that looks decent.
This is a great, clean look. But there is be a difference for tablets and phones. We definitely understand that its more towards mobile but we feels really weird to play the game vertical.
We’ve been playing PTCGL for awhile and it should be better than PTCGO. Its almost there it looks better, acquiring cards is a lot easier, and even the animations is pretty cool. It just needs better battery optimization for mobile users and too many bugs. Some bugs can ruin an entire game. Needs to be fixed and this game is a GREAT step in the right direction.
Good graphics improvement, kept the same play format (which we liked) from Online, and no crashes so far. We wish the mobile version had a landscape mode that we didnt have to basically glitch in, and we wish some preset decks were saved. Its a bit tedious getting currency to get new card packs/sets, but we think we just need to play a bit more. The game also drains a lot of battery for some reason, but that might be our tablet.
Game is enjoyable but wow it makes your phone super hot even after one match.
We were really excited for Pokmon TCGO to move to a mobile app, but this app seems to be getting worse, not better since its release. The bugs are a constant problem; seems like a new one every time we play. Certain moves or abilities dont work, supporter cards dont work, just so many things. The matches also have a strange timing system that seems both too long for the opponent but too short for us. We will sit and wait for several minutes watching the opponent do nothing, but when it comes to our turn if we dont respond within seconds, our turn is auto ended. This often just ends in us conceding because we dont want to sit and watch a screen while nothing is happening. For all o know though, its just another bug affecting our opponent. Please fix we the issues so we can actually enjoy the game Edit: the developers are definitely moving in the right direction. Still not perfect by any means but it isnt nearly as bad as it was before.
Like the game but hate how we cant take it off portrait mode on our iPad, an update would be much appreciated.
Currently writing this during the the open beta so things are subject to change later. Positives 1) Overhauls to the custom avatar system (wow. Im impressed) 2) The fact we can just download this to our phone for more portability rather than just a computer and tablets 3) The fact that once you own a card, you generate more of it (takes a lot out of the RNG of packs but in a good way for deck building purposes) Negatives 1) our whole collection didnt transfer over from TCG Online (Tons of decks ruined because they used really good cards from previous expansions) 2) Wow this game makes our phone burn up a bit (The heat up is powerful. We think our phone can handle only 2 battles before the heat gets strong) 3) we like the fact that theres new currencies to get packs but why are we just restricted to ranked? 4) Why are we just restricted to standard decks for ranked Overall this game has a lot of revisions to make. It isnt bad but its not in a fully enjoyable state. Our advice is to make challenges that everyone can complete for more rewards, daily challenges that reward pack currencies, make the casual playlists much more rewarding, and finally give us the rest of our collection from TCG Online so players can truly deck build with no limits. Note to developers: A lot of these changes you can literally just take from the TCG Online. We think some of the Online reward systems would be wonderful for Live.
It looks nice but none of our decks migrated to the new app and we dont like that we cant play in landscape mode.
We love this app and it works great aside from a couple bugs. Sometimes when our phone switches to Wi-Fi it locks our match in a permanent missing internet connection state. The only other problem we experience is everytime we open the app it pauses our music or other media even tho the app is fully muted. It would be a great if an option would be built in so that doesnt happen anymore. Many times our app freezes after we pause it quickly to go to Spotify or YouTube.
Needs more special effects and better sorting through cards. Facing off against a cpu would be nice as well. Just a little more flavor would go a long way.
We really want to love this app. Its great to learn the TCG, but it overheats both iPhone and iPad way too much. In addition, it drains battery like crazy. The app is also not optimized for iPad, so its all stretched out and blurry. We hope they can fix some of these issues soon because its a great app for playing the game. But the overheating and insane battery draining is not good at all.
We like the game but you could cook an egg on our phone while playing it.
We wanted to write a review for those who might merge over from Pokmon TCG Online. We want to start by saying we like that this can be played on a phone and not just a tablet. When its out of beta and some of the bugs are fixed, Im sure that will mean we will play it more. The UI is clean and its easy to use. We like that you can buy individual cards to create decks to build your strategy. Overall with the basic cards that it comes with, the game plays well and smooth. But as soon as you start building a strategy that may stack a number of 6 or more of the same basic energy, the game will slow to a crawl and may become unplayable. We believe this will be fixed in future updates, but as of now, it is the current problem in version 1.5. A feature that is missed from Online is friends. Pokmon TCG has always been a game you played with friends either locally or on the tablet version anywhere. As of now, there is no feature to add your friends by username. The battery will get hot and drain quickly while playing. It gets worse if you use the strategy we mentioned earlier. Overall, we think theyre moving the game in the right direction, but in beta it will feel inferior to the decade old Pokmon TCG Online. Hopefully they will bring some of the features over and fix the bugs. If you enjoy playing with your friends, wait to merge over.
Overall its ok, but trying to scan codes and redeem code cards is difficult or Im not doing it right, either way its difficult, Also just one game cost us over 30% battery life and the devise either iPad or iPhone makes the battery quite hot.
Are our OG cards just gone now? Like we took pride in having those cards and now theyre just gone. Its not that bad of a game but it just makes us sad to not have those to look at anymore.
This game is fun but the battery drains really quickly and on top of that they need to add automatic losses or ways to report players. We’ve had multiple matches where players just stop making moves and the clock keeps ticking but they somehow never time out of their turn so a 20-minute clock can literally run all the way out and they still wont lose, which is absolutely absurd. There should also be a way to report/ban/block the players that use this current strategy.
Pretty happy with the new version of online tcg. Updates have consistently made the game run more smoothly than before. We appreciate that there are no IAPs, and that regular play makes the premium tier ladder accessible within about a week and a half. The only real problem is that it needs serious optimization to run on iPhone. Burns through battery like nothing else. We assume this will be fixed eventually since the game is not terribly demanding in terms of function (I will add a star if this does get fixed). Overall 3/5 for providing a platform to play tcg on iOS, albeit poorly optimized for the hardware.
This game has its pros. Its Pokmon TCG on mobile. Its fun to play, great animations and has the iconic/always vivid artwork. This game also has its cons. How can this be a trading card game and trading isnt even an option in this game? This game takes our battery away so fast and overheats our phone. This game also has a few bugs, particularly during online play. We understand that its in beta, but Im sad to say, 3/4 stars.
We really enjoy this game but our one problem is that the characters are absolutely hideous. Thats it.
The initial app works great, but there is no way to view all of your individual cards without having to also start building a deck. We just want to look at our cards. We also want to be able to decide if our duplicates get converted into currency before theyre automatically converted. Im concerned a few of our cards are getting converted that we dont want converted because of the art on the cards. It makes us hesitant to redeem or open any more packs, and we’ve already opened about 30. Please fix this.

We have played Pokmon TCG online for a few years. We changed apps because online was closing. It kept crashing and took us several tries to finish the tutorial, even though we skipped the battle with the professor. We have not been able to finish a battle with another player. We want to be able to play this game.
We love the way the game looks. Its aesthetically pleasing. However, every time we load into the game the game crashes. Hopefully this gets fixed.
This will scratch your itch for a good, classic TCG in the pokemon franchise on mobile. Especially if you dont have a collection already. That is, when you CAN play it. This game has serious optimization and general coding problems throughout. It will burn through your batteries in minutes, which is an issue because the game will randomly freeze. A player will take a turn, end it, and then the next player will not be able to make a move resulting in up to 30 min of both players staring at each other, playing a game of chicken to see who concedes first. The other game breaking issue is that if any short term DC. Lots of players on their phones and heaven forbid a 10 second minimize to respond to a text. You will never be able to reconnect in time to see what move was played, much less take your turn. Until those issues are taken care of, this is better as a PC/switch port rather than a mobile game.
This is so much worse than the app it’s replacing. Why are there only like 6 pixels on the screen? And all our decks didnt migrate?!
We find the game itself very fun but after just one battle our phone becomes very hot. We have a 13 pro max and this game should not be pushing the cpu to this temp, this is not some advanced open world 3d game its a card game. The devs need to focus heavily on optimization and improving the performance of this game.
The moment the game uploads the app crashes and we have to wait to reboot the game. Now we dont know why we still have the app still if we cant play it on our phone, seems like the app is not worth having. Really disappointing on mobile app.
