But like, wheres johnG and the jacuzzi? ( wink ; ).
After starting with the free portion of Myst mobile, we looked at the reviews of Myst mobile and realMyst and followed a reviewer's advice that the additional cost for the realMyst version was worth the improvement. Wow yes. For the interface alone, plus the graphics. Awesome work, developers. At the moment, there's a bug in audio in the gear age when our walking is between the outside puzzle and the entry door–it goes silent until we reach either end. At the moment, the visual transition is bumpy in these places there are slidey doors: the gear age, and the ship age. Specifically, the animation is smooth as we are being taken into the next chamber, then there is an abrupt jump or change in height.
We played Myst when it first came out and now Im playing again on our IPad. Im so happy we found it, its a keeper.
They did a good job putting it on iOS, worth the money.
Anyone else having issues trying to airplay the game over Apple TV? Keeps shutting down.
Our dad would tell storys about how he played when he was little so when we found out it was playable again we got it for his birthday.
And.we got stuck frequently. We had to use online walkthroughs to make it through the whole game. We prefer games that at least give you hints so you dont have to go online and fine the whole answer. We always wanted to play this since we first saw it back in 1993 and couldnt figure out what to do back then lol. We didnt grow up with PC games so maybe thats a disadvantage to figuring this one out. Ive played a lot of puzzle games and highly recommend the Forever Lost series! (Actually all their games are great) we also enjoyed Midnight Girl.
We enjoyed replaying this game. Unfortunately there was one critical game play error. The first time we encountered Atrus, he said to come to Dni right away, without giving his lengthy explanation, and most importantly, without the missing white page. Other than that everything worked fine, but we had to knock it down to 3 stars since that is such an important game failure.
We were extraordinarily excited when realMyst released in 2000. It was like Myst but, well, more real. Ironically, the original Myst held up over time better than this version. The game itself is actually more solid than the 1993 version. The puzzles, environment, and audio hold up quite well. RealMyst boasts true 3D movement, which is a huge improvement over the original game, simply from a navigation standpoint. The original Myst had occasions where a player could easily get lost due to not being able to see a clear transition from one location to the next. When you control your own movement, that obstacle is removed. While the 3D graphics impressed in 2000, today theyre somewhat lackluster. Detail and view distance are pretty sparse, and the texture quality is pretty grainy with some embarrassing color speckles in walls and doors. The major appeal of this version of Myst is the inclusion of the Rime age. Originally included in realMyst, Rime was built with this engine in mind and while small, its enjoyable. It can be a bit tricky to figure out the controls for the puzzle on iOS though. In fact, this is the only version of Myst currently available for iOS that includes Rime, which might be enough to pursuance you to buy it. The biggest drawback, we think, for realMyst on iOS we think was the timing. This app was released in 2012, and was an iOS update to a 2000 title. Just two years later, realMyst Masterpiece Edition released. Masterpiece has vastly improved graphics, which were further updated years later. It also includes some new Easter eggs and achievements. Overall its superior to this app in every way unless youre dead set on seeing the original 3D release. But, Masterpiece never appeared on iOS, and with the new 2023 edition on iOS out now, theres no reason to expect theyd invest the resources to update this app to the Masterpiece Edition. Nearly everything that realMyst does, Myst 2023 does better. We have to find ourselves recommending that version unless youre strictly here for the Rime age.
Looking forward to playing an old childhood favorite. But there is no sound. We see some similar reviews. We recall sound being one of and best aspects.
Graphics are great!! We have only made it to the Mechanical Age. We have spent several hours trying to get the Fortress rotation Simulator to work. If you are going to try and play on an iPad Pro 10, save your money.
This is still the same old great Myst, its always intriguing. We think it could use a graphical update though m, its rough. The areas feel too condensed sometimes and you get stuck on parts of the environment. We hope one of these versions of the game will expand the environments someday and give us more stuff to interact with to enjoy the worlds. Its be cool to just mess around in the worlds after youve competed the game with something to do besides walk around. Also the menu can be kind of hard to access since the newer iphones already have a swipe up to close. The white line for the tabs or swipe up never disappears so thats annoying as well. Hopefully Myst 2021 will be out on PS5.
We excited about playing Myst again, we did try in the 90s too. Im playing on an iPad Pro and certain action dont work immediately like you are using a mouse. We have been trying for 2 hours to get the door in the tree at a level we can actually go in. No matter what we try, even following various cheats it impossible.
We love this game and the puzzles in it. However, the lack of a flashlight makes the game play difficult. They need to either add the flashlight or make it easier to find and use. Like a click on bottom right corner so we can see in dark rooms. Other than this its a great game.
If its a Glitch we hope youll send an update to fix it ASAP, we played myst back in the day and wanted to try it again, downloaded to our iPad liking the better graphics of course. Heres our problem we cant get out of stoneship. The trap door is no where to be found, even with hints. So we watched a video online and one cant believe how much more light there is and two the trap door between the brothers rooms is so clearly marked youd have to be blind not to see it. Yet here we are stuck in the dark. Oi.
We played this game back in the dark ages, so we thought Id try this version. It was a waste of money. First. We kept accidentally touching the bottom of the screen and pulling up the saved game screen. But the worst part of this version was that it gave us motion sickness. We had to delete it a few days after we bought it.
Played the pc game back in the day, own the prequel (book), and have also played Riven. Attempted to play via the app and seems like there are always glitches that prevent the game from being finished. Currently, cant get out of the water in the tower at shipwreck island (youre not supposed to be able to get in the water) because the floating chest blocks the steps. Restarting device doesnt resolve the glitch. So play ends up being total waste of time. [Gave two stars instead of one since the developer subsequently came out with Myst Legacy which we also purchased thinking it would be an improvement over this one but instead it just has superbly awful (way worse) graphics and gameplay (control) changes from this version that rendered what historically was an engrossing game completely unenjoyable/boring.].
Dont like the interface. Hard to navigate. Hard position yourself to interact with switches. Always bumping into things. Takes too long to get from one place to another. Rather have a point and click to move around rather than slow scrolling. As others have said, its too dark. We tried to adjust ipad screen brightness, but doesnt help. Last but not least, you cant carry two pages from each world at once, which means you have to go back to get the second page for each of the 4 worlds.
We were grinning the first few hours playing this game as we reminisced about the classic we struggled to beat as a kid. But at some point we got so sick to our stomach we thought we were literally coming down with COVID. The next day we felt better and tried playing again, but felt sick after maybe 20 minutes this time. After reading other reviews, Im pretty sure its this game. We dont know if its the jerky motion every time you click slightly off-center to move forward or the fact that looking around moves so fast its like spinning, but we really, really wish they would either fix this or introduce an settings option to revert to the point-and-click + image stills aesthetic of the original (which was really cool anyways). Id be happy to update our rating if they do so, but seeing that some reviews calling out this problem are 8+ years old, Im sadly skeptical that anything will be fixed.
Anyone playing Real Myst is missing out on a lot of what people loved about Myst. Its an instant gratification version of a game that was designed to be appreciated slowly. Im disappointed that Cyan let this happen.
Ive tried everything. Turned off Bluetooth, uninstalled and reinstalled, mashed the volume buttons. Still no sound. Its a shame because its one of our favorite games.
Bookmark page being controlled at the top or bottom of the screen causes it to open when we dont want it to, and trying to close it opens the lock screen. Every single time.
Some scenes in the Stoneship age are so dark as to be unplayable.
Why does the ipad version not have everything the other version has such as icons for sound, flashlight etc.? The only thing it has is drag to bookmark, turn on while moving, invert, nothing else. We really want to play this game but without the flashlight its impossible because you cannot see in the dark and Im stuck trying to find a door.
We played the original Myst on our computer many years ago, one of the best games we have ever played. This IPAD VERSION is horrible! It is very awkward getting around to say the least, much harder to play. But the corker was the fact that when you went about collecting the pages for the books, you could only bring back one at a time. So for all the gyrations you need to go to get the pages in each world, you need to do it twice. First two worlds werent bad, but when we got to Channelwood got one page, we think to ourselves, we are not doing that again because the stinking software only lets you carry one at a time! It stops being fun in a big hurry. IF YOU NEVER PLAYED THE COMPUTER VERSION DO IT ITs GREAT. But dont bother with this please.
We counted 8 marker switches and entered 8 in imaging but game didnt work for us. After several tries, we wasted $6. Also this game gave us motion sickness. We felt nauseous. We dont like it. We want our money back.
Love all myst games. We check a lot for the other games . We saw this and bought it. We been playing since the beginning. We love the game.
Stopped playing for a few days because of a bug but when we reopened it it worked.
The graphics rendering quality does look a little dated but appropriate for a vintage game revival, but it is still quite beautiful and mesmerizing at the same time. Do yourself a favor and play the game without outside aid. The puzzles are well constructed, and we are amazed that the upgrade has maintained the look and feel of the original. Good thing about having a bad memory is that apart from some visuals we recognize, we feel like Im playing a brand new game. Myst is still rock solid and a unique experience today.
First and foremost, we would like to apologise for our previous review, which was based off a puzzle we had not solved yet. We absolutely loved this game, and would recommended it to anyone and everyone. :).
This is a amazing game you should try it is is pretty hard.
Its been about 27 years since we had played Myst and its always held a soft spot in our heart. We played through this on the iPad Pro 11 and had no issues with performance as some others had mentioned. We found the finger drag controls a little annoying at first and wasnt a fan of the locomotion through the world (definitely prefer the teleport option for this game) but after an hour or so of playing we started to get used to it. In any case it was fun to go through it again and in our opinion well worth the small fee.
Hello! The game looks so fun! We just purchased the game and am very excited to get into the game. We have a rotor riot controller and the left joystick works for movement but does not work for the right joystick for looking. Please please help and make the game compatible us all the controls on a controller. Please. Thank you so much we cant want to play the game and Riven as well. Please help thank you. We will give full 5 stars if the game can work with our controller. Thank you.
The app only crashes. Please refund our money. Second review: this company does not acknowledge grievances; have yet to receive a refund or a working copy of this app. Third review: the company fixed the issue a few weeks ago. Ive been remiss in updating this. So far so good.
Very disappointing that theres a glitch involving the sound on iOS. Ive tried all the helpful hints but no luck. The sound was part of the allure for us. Plus we cant hear the little clicks or swooshes when something works.
Real disappointed. The scenes are dark so no detail. The beauty of the scenes in Myst were half the fun.
Going to remake an entire game and forget to build in the flashlight feature. Cant even finish the game. Kinda want our money back.
We have an iPhone 11 and fond memories of the original Myst, although we were 12 when it first came out and could not get anywhere without hint guides. We were hoping to replay it as an older, wiser adult but the phone setup may even be harder than playing as a kid. The game is SO small with minute details almost impossible to see. We broke down and looked at a walkthrough several times only to figure out there were small items on the ground, critical items that we could barely make out on the phone. Additionally, without a mouse cursor it is impossible to know what you can touch or manipulate in the game. We spent an hour walking around thinking the elevator to the tower was broken or required a secret trick, only to eventually learn we merely needed to close the door first!! We lost patience with it after about two hours of playing and deleted the game. Too bad.
The East and West noises are correct in Selenitic but reversed in Mechanical. We cant imagine how confusing this must be for new players. We made a bug report about this three years ago and it was ignored.
Some things just belong to stay back in the day. This game does not translate well into the modern world of gaming. Its inordinately boring and tedious. The interface is clunky as all HELL, which is where this atrocious nap belongs.
The controls are bad making the game unplayable. This is true for bringing up the menu that many others have noted. Also it is infuriating to do simple things like climb a ladder. We click the screen over and over until it registers-am we too far away? Too far over? There is no feedback with screen or controls. Having played Myst we know we can – but when we get to later ages that we are not familiar with we would conclude that the ladder could not be climbed. Deleting.
Except Riven. Beautiful game. Please bring more of the series to the we pad.
This game as well as riven have been our favorite games to pass time! The graphics, the sound, the gameplay.. Its just an amazing adventure! Super addicting! Love love love this! Had the cd versions as a kid and these updates are amazing! Thank you.
Having fun playing this. Pro tip for getting around a small weirdness: you need to enable device alerts for sound.
We replayed this game after many years and it was just the thing to pass the them during the Covid Quarantine. The controls on iPad were flawless and it really helped immerse you deeper into the game. Our only complaint is that there some textures and background items (trees) are sacrificed in this version, we can only assume it was to get it to fit/operate on iPad. If you have never played Myst, this is game is a must.
Hey this game is great so far but we cant open our menu. The slide up action makes the game close so we can almost never open our menu.
We played this back in the 90s with our dad. We loved the puzzles. But now there is not a menu button to go back and start over or go to options etc? Can you add one.
Please consider to adapt the resolution of iPad Pro, would it be a lot of rework to do.
This was cool and nostalgic until it froze irreparably on us (more than once). The first time we just reloaded the app and sucked it up, replayed the level. Now its frozen on the very last level and we cant get to Riven. Super annoyed that we paid 6 bucks for a game that we wont get to finish because there is no way Im playing through all that again.
