Repulze Reviews

Sci-Fi/Antigravity Racing is our favorite genre anyway, but RePulze shines in it. The 3-phase Dev/Release strategy was brilliant. We got to it when it was completed, but as an aspiring game designer myself, it has been a positive influence. We purchased on Android originally. Got to own for iPad Mini too! We dont think we will be playing through Phases 1 & 2 again though. For us, Racing is about placing your best against opponent crafts and, while Phases 1 & 2 are fine for an initial play through, we imagine they will be difficult to get through with Phase 3 our true target. $.99 is definitely a great value for the initial play through!

Its the closest the Wipeout we’ve seen on iOS since AG Drive got pulled. Everything about the game is pretty great, except for one game mechanic: The Red and Green Polarity gates. Its an interesting idea for maybe one or two tracks, but for every track in order to gain boost, its annoying and takes away the point of games like Wipeout or Podracer, and thats to go fast. The polarity mechanic makes it feel more like an obstacle course, and not a course that takes skill and precision to get through. Fun for a few levels, but after a while we want something about speed and precision, and not hitting or avoiding gates.

It needs some upgrading in order to be fully patible with Mac mini please and thank you.

We enjoy the game but would love it more if it were online multiplayer.

When this was first released, we absolutely loved the way it was presented. A time trial racing game with some incredible track designs, mechanics, graphics, and very tight controls. It was all about learning the tracks and besting your own, and your friends, times, while unlocking new vehicles and upgrades. Now, after multiple updates, the game is truley a gem. The first phase was the original base game. While they always said more content was coming, with the AppStore, that doesn’t always happen. The second phase added more mechanics and the third added enemies and weapons, all while keeping the core ‘beat the fastest time’ drive behind it all. While some may have wanted another Wipeout clone but we were very happy that they stuck with the trails type gameplay. Repulze very quickly became (and has stayed) our favorite racer in the AppStore, trials or not, I’d choose it over NFS, over Sonic, over any Asphalt title, Real Racing, CSR… IMO, it is absolutely in the conversation for ‘best of the best’ racing game on the iOS. Pixelbite is almost always awesome, but they made a real gem here.

We want to love this game like we do with this devs other titles but as far as playability on an iPhone 8 Plus on iOS 11, its not very good. The resolution is terrible and tapping is not calibrated. We have to tap just below what we actually want to select. Please fix soon!

A lot like racing down deep canal ditches in our old MagBounce 7 back home. But a lot safer, of course.

This is a great game with 60fps gameplay. But in IOS 10 when we try to see achievements or leaderboards the game always crashes. We hope the developers update the game and fix this problem.

Excellent racing game. Fast paced, neat ships, pretty environments, plus many control options. Music is surprisingly catchy, and while IAP are offered, there is absolutely NO need for them :D (Note: the game is not very easy. If you can’t control the ship very well, check your sensitivity and control options. The fault is not with the game.)

Amazing game. Severely under rated racing game. If you don’t have it, buy it. Phase 3 is really, really fun.

This game needs to be on Apple TV.

Repulze reminds us of the Nintendo game, "F-Zero". It’s a fast paced racing game except you’re not racing other players, and the developers of this game (Pixelbite), make some other great games as well. In Repulze you are tasked with piloting your hovercraft through red and green gates, gaining speed bonuses for hitting the right gates and being penalized by losing momentum when you hit the wrong gate. Graphics are amazing, but that alone doesn’t make a great game. Repulze also combines excellent controls with a smooth frame rate. There are 3 phases of the game to play giving you plenty of content. If you’re looking for a sleek, futuristic racing game, Repulze is it. There are no IAP’s in this game. It does offer 1 hovercraft for sale in the shop for $4.99, if your inclined to spend some money.

It needs more work and then it’d become better than need for speed.

Edit: Game went downhill with subsequent updates adding micro-transactions. It’s also unfortunate that vehicles are for the most part direct upgrades and not sidegrades so there is little point in trying out different ships (just use the one with the best stats) unlike WipEout. Lastly it would have been much better if you could choose pure time trial or race on each track. We could look past all this however if not for the retroactive microtransactions. We were going to buy pixelbite’s newest game but now we’re worried about shady retroactive microtransactions =/ Edit: haha, just looked at some of the other reviews. The controls took us one race to get used to. It’s YOU, not the controls. Probably not wipeout or fzero fans. We do think a lower speed class should be added for people like you guys who are new to the genre and need a more gradual difficulty curve. ———————— This is precisely how the time trial portion of WipEout on iOS should be done. Well worth the $1 (worth more than that actually). A cautionary note, there is only one speed difficulty so if you don’t think you can handle high speed racing, don’t bother with this. It won’t be fun for you. Updates are planned and hopefully the game is expanded to include races and other modes, but for now the $1 is still excellent value for what is here. If race mode and more is added this app would be well worth $5-$10 if the quality is as good.

The new game mechanics are perfect. The game is fluid and fun. The constant developer support makes this game wonderful.

This game has so much potential but it goes to waste. Once you master it and unlock whatever you’re satisfied with, you can’t play online. We’re very disappointed we paid for a game that looks like a hardcore multiplayer but it turns out it’s basically a bunch of time attacks and weak single player racing.

It’s a great Wipeout clone. Wish it had more craft. Most of them look the same or boring. Music doesn’t have much variety, but is well composed and catchy.

Though the game would be fun but it’s pretty lame.

This is like the best game ever, but it needs online multiplayer sooo bad. That would make it amazing!!

Repulze in its current state is well worth the asking price, it’s wipeout for iPad. The polarity system adds depth that you learn to appreciate. You need to use it to speed up and sometimes slow down early on. We would gladly pay for Phase 4 or at least more content. We think $1 for 2 tracks is a reasonable price and we would pay for all of it. We would love to give the developer more money through the in-app-purchases but we feel it would encourage more of that behavior in freemium gaming.

Works well. Great graphics and controls. Fairly simple play – mostly steering – but entertaining. Lots of levels. We like the fact that it does not pester or pressure one to make additional purchases. Looking forward to other products by developer.

The graphics and controls of this game are amazing.

The controls are nice and floaty (expected of a hovercar), the graphics are nice, and it’s overall worth buying if you like racing games. It gets you to retry a level to get that certain time or grab enough toolkits or break enough vehicles. We also like that these challenges (3 per level) stay once you get them; e.g. You don’t have to get all three in one go.

This game is very reminiscent of the classic wipeout games on ps1. The controls take a little getting used to but that’s mainly because the racing is very fast paced. It’s been awhile since we enjoyed an iOS racer as much as this one. Runs well even on older devices like our ipad 1 and iphone 4, and looks quite nice. Also, a major plus for iphone 4 users is the ability to switch off retina graphics for a boost in smoothness. We wish more devs would do this! Definitely worth a look for fans of this genre!

A full rich 3D racer game with tons to offer. Fluid controls, elegant interface. It’s like a full PS3 game on our phone. We loved the Wipeout series but some of the last ones were hard to play, this game is actually better than most of the Wipeout titles. Bravo good sirs, bravo.

We like the phase 3 mode we play it over and over.

Repulse stands up to the actual Wipeout games it pays homage to. The gameplay is actually rewarding and not tedious, and the 60fps gameplay stands apart from most others. Great work! WE WANT MORE!

We would have rated it 6 stars instead. XD In a nutshell, looks a lot like F-Zero, which is a good thing. Childhood memories are flowing back while playing this. Second to none, fast, strategic. It’s almost perfect. One last thing… YOU GOT BOOST POWER!!

Really great! We love this game!

Despite a relatively low occupancy, the tracks and ships are incredibly detailed and highly varied. The controls used to be very awkward, but clearly the developer has put in much effort to correct the control scheme and hence it now feels very smooth and controllable. All three control scheme work very well to this stage. Phase after phase (Game major updates), more new mechanics are added which adds to the diversity of this game. The initial concept of polarity gate racing is very unique, and building upon it makes it even better. Its Phase 2 was a great example of building upon this concept. Phase 3 is something quite different though which we will elaborate on later… Many people complained of the absence of combat mechanics and so that has come into the picture as well! And the best part is, the combat experience feels totally different from the conventional combat racing games. In those conventional games you run into some place (Such as an item pad or a more obvious item box in the case of Mario Kart) and pick up a weapon. Then you fire that weapon… And it’s gone. But Repulze is different. Repulze’s unique polarity mechanics (Alongside with its boost charge bar) makes the weapon system different altogether. By retaining a certain boost level by grabbing polarity gates, your weapon you currently get at that level is UNLIMITED. That’s right, you get to fire up that weapon infinitely as long you don’t use up your boosts. Speaking of boosts, that also means that combat gets a bit tactical as well, you can choose to boost past your competitors or reserve them to shoot ’em up. And with unlimited weapons ultimately mean non-stop action (Can you imagine all these is on your MOBILE DEVICE?!?!) and non-stop firing. It gets really fun blowing opponents with your unlimited amount of weapons. The catch is, you got to catch them first, because they run really fast but that doesn’t stop them from targetting you (They target each other too so don’t worry about biasness). About targetting, it’s entirely automatic so you could concentrate on being obssessed with the combat action. But watch out for opponents targetting you, that’ll mean you need to dodge their lock-on, and that’s something you hardly see in conventional racing games as well. The game is excellent, but with a few minor flaws. The bonnet camera view doesn’t feel very realistic as the camera doesn’t bank as your hovercraft does. Also, during a breakdown, the view should either go crazy for a brief moment or at least the HUD should "screw up" (By using static screens) rather than just bouncing up for a brief moment. The lag occuring on Last Station still sometimes exist, though much more easily solved now. We do hope to see a Phase 4 coming soon, it’ll be a pity to stop developing this game further, and hopefully it’ll take more of our consumers’ opinions into consideration. As a last note, the IAPs are completely optional and can be "earned" through normal gameplay. The only ones that can’t be earned are the gold paint schemes of the hovercrafts which ONLY allows you to gain double XP. Pixelbite will NEVER insert any "evil" IAPs in their game which destroys your experience by somewhat enforcing it through making it seem compulsory to buy in order to advance further in their games.

We got it back at the begging and still waiting for the next update.

This game is a absolute gem! We first got it because it looked a bit like the game Blur for consoles, and as it turns out, it’s actually BETTER. This game is EASILY the fastest paced and intense racing game we’ve played period! The unique boost and weapon system is very cool too! Though it can get a little grinder getting upgrade points near the end, it is balanced really well. Also, all in app purchases are optional and can be earned in game except the gold paint which just gives you double XP! Overall we would recommend this to anyone, there are a TON of levels in this, just as much as a 30-60 dollar console game like Blur! Also, the graphics are incredible!! They are of the same fidelity as infinity blade and other extremely high quality games, and are actually dang close to what consoles can do, with the programming wizards at Pixelbite managing to make sure there’s NO LAG, even on an iPhone 4! Overall, easy 5/5, and the best $3 you can spend in the App Store!!

The game is so challenge with a simple objective racing game, very excellent . Graphic on vehicle is beautiful. Plenty of fun gameplay.

We agree with the reviews that compare this game to F-Zero. The tracks are really tricky, the vehicles are great-looking, and the speed is bloody insane. Serious thrills!

Reminiscent of childhood memories. Good reward rate, never requires in app purchases, challenge/difficulty level is fantastic. Really fun!

This thing is dope. Wipeout for IOS. Totally worth the price of admission. Requests: iCade / Bluetooth controller support Survival Mode (see how many laps you can do before crashing/getting wiped out by AI Goons) Race Mode for first two episodes Did we mention iCade support? That would be AWESOME.

It’s a great game overall but we have one thing that is really bugging us. There are only two camera modes which consist of standard (looking at the rear of the vehicle) and bonnet (the vehicle is not visible at all). There needs to be a third camera view that show the nose of the vehicle. Personally, this would make steering way more precise. Also… PLEASE ADD MULTIPLAYER. Almost forgot.. If this game could cross over to the PS Vita it would be much appreciated :) it has already been done with jet pack joyride.

This app offers a outstanding and special feeling of smooth and cool. Not like the other racing games which are normally focused on cars or motors, this game is like a scientific fiction and let you feel like you are a star-war hero.

Objectives, fast action, dynamic tracks, this really has it all. Our problem with it is the Stage 3 racing. Yes you can shoot others and they shoot you but in the end, you can really beat it by just spamming boost (which lasts long enough to get to the next boost charge).
