What Makes Road to Legend Stand Out
Road to Legend is a companion app for the Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2nd edition board game. When you play with Road to Legend, the app assumes the role of the overlord player, controlling monsters and inviting you to explore the dungeon in entirely new and unexpected ways.
At its heart, Road to Legend introduces a fully-formed, cooperative way to play Descent, freeing you and your friends to all play as heroes and defeat the darkness in Terrinoth. With a series of fully-formed quests and the ability to incorporate your entire collection of physical Descent expansions, Road to Legend provides a thrilling new variant on the classic Descent experience!
This Utilities game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Community Insight:
Still supported after all these years, you guys are boss.
App devs, please dont ever get rid of the support for this app. Or, if you do, please give all of us fans a permanent version we can keep for the ages. This is SUCH a fun way to play this board game, and as someone that has spent a lot of money on cardboard for this game over the years, we hope to KEEP playing it for many years to come.
Cool app and well developed but we wish the developers would offer the option within the app to switch between 1st and 2nd edition.
We dont think anyone will fix this at this point with a new edition of the game out, but multiple times on different save slots when going back to town after our second encounter the app crashed. Upon loading most of the items that were up for sale in the market were no longer available. The first screen of items (before it crashed) only showed three instead of four. Annoying.
So in the game you can find treasure to add to you inventory while on a quest but we dont see where to add the items we find to our inventory if we stop playing and come back we wont remember all the items Ive received. Thats our biggest complaint.
Everything we expected and more of this App will really lift your spirits If you have a descent you should get this app.
Update (moving to 4 stars from 5): after playing with the app some more, there are a few tweaks that we think would be really useful to players. 1) Allow players to control which minor and major perils are allowed in a campaign (or at least turn them on or off). We got the last breath major peril in the middle of a quest. A 2 round timer where you lose after the 2nd round and the current objective is to explore with only 2 players? That totally ruins the game. 2) Inventory from the city seems to disappear after leaving the city and putting down the game for any amount of time. This means players have to waste a week to restock, obnoxious but a more minor complaint. Original: Loving the app so far, our group had a lot of fun with the tutorial and we are eager to delve into the rest of the content. Our one suggestion would be to allow account creation for maintaining saves and content across devices.
We love this app! But the new update has messed up all of the damage, fatigue, might, etc icons. They are now new and it is a pain to try to figure out what they mean. Please fix this.
One of our favorite games made better!!! This app allows Descent to become a fully cooperative game where the app controls the overlord. The hard setting can be pretty difficult which is great for us experienced players but the normal setting is easy enough for newbies to get acquainted. Please keep content coming, love this addition.
We really didn't have fun. The tutorial gleefully bashes you over the head, like a sadistic Dungeon Master with a vendetta. How can a new player learn the basics when the app introduces additional, spiteful mechanics (the Ettin does +4!?) designed to wipe the party before the players can process the info? Practically guaranteed status effects? No thanks, imma go play Dark Souls instead.
A real blast to play. We just finished the intro campaign so it's on to kindred fire. To fantasyflight: we'll only buy physical expansions that have corresponding road to legend campaigns! Keep it up.
Already got hours of enjoyment out of this app!! Makes a great teaching tool also for new people.
We acquired Road to legend before The Delve was released. Considering it was free, we were very impressed and we greatly appreciated it. Our wallet wasn't as kind as we went out and purchased many add-ons (which is the point methinks :-). Our only complaint was that the voice-over work was not more extensive. But hey, it was free, so hard to complain. Then, we purchased The Delve. For the price, we feel the voice-over work should be much more extensive and we will complain. The good of this app cannot be denied but, for the price, we are very disappointed that more of the dialog was not vocalized. It could have been reading the narrative why we were following the movement or setup instructions. We mean, you already had the voice actors, why not? We'll not be purchasing any more quests/campaigns until we hear that this is done. If all that is to be is a vocalized introduction then we'll just stick with what we have. We do thank you for what you've done – don't mean to sound ungrateful, but we need more voice acting if we are to spend more in the future.
This game plays well. We enjoyed playing with our family against the ipad… But after 5 tries, we could not finish a campaign. Saved games get corrupted, crashing the app on restart. Game state is lost sometimes if you swap out to Safari (to look up rules). It sometimes gets confused when you save between missions, disallowing recovery in town or purchase of equipment. It's fun but basically unplayable. Tried on two different devices, uninstalled, reinstalled, started over, all failures. Deva: save the entire app state! Your save-game format is deeply flawed.
The latest update brought delve which is a one shot adventure similar to the game night sets. However, some of the stages ask for map tiles that you may not own in your collection and the game auto saves on the new map meaning you have to abandon and start a new delve, which is very unfortunate if you're further into the game. Would change to 5 stars once issue is fixed.
Pretty much AI for Descent. Has unique adventures that change depending on what you have. Also helps you manage your collection. Slick presentation too! A free digital upgrade for your favorite board game.
A companion app that plays a board game as a player.. Genius. Works great very well designed.. Very impressed.
Saved our marriage. Wife couldn't stand us being overlord. Great game. Need more content.
We have been having so much fun with this app. Our friends are big fans of co-op games a this has become our favorite.
As the person who always plays the Overlord in Descent this allowed us to work together with our friends and experience the joy of building a deadly hero. This app breathed new life into our board game. Hoping for much more content to come.
Great app. Cannot wait for more scenarios.
Just played through the tutorial. Wow, amazing. What a cool way to integrate digital an IRL. Just did a run through by ourselves, can't wait to get our friends involved.
Adds great solo play and co-op to an already amazing game. Builds the map as you play so you really get the "dungeon crawl" curiosity of "What's behind this door?!" Incorporates all the content you own (expansions, lieutenants, heroes and monsters).
Our copy of Descent had seen far too few plays. This app has made it possible to pull out and play a section of a campaign with little set up and ease of saving a campaign.
This has been the best Descent experience yet!! How, you are asking, can the game be topped by introducing a computer element distraction? Aren't we supposed to be interacting with humans?!?! By giving us voiced scripts, ambient sounds, and a great overlord system. The context around search tokens, objective tokens, and doors is so fun. Our group has had a ton of fun playing this game over time, but we are having the most fun we ever had. Now if only we could all stop adulting for awhile…need more time.
App crashes every time we try to load a saved campaign. Not worth the space it occupies on our device.
Same as everyone else. App crashes as soon as you try to load a saved campaign. Even newly created campaigns crash the app. Unusable.
Great app! Have loved playing with it and would gladly give 5 stars but you need to fix the current bug making it impossible to use longterm. Whenever we try to load a previously saved campaign the app crashes. This of course defeats the entire purpose of using the app for a campaign.
We love the app but the new update crashes when you try to load a campaign on an iPad Air 2. It seems to work okay on our iPhone 6s but without cloud saves that is of little help.
Hands down the best app, great controls, epic music, very well made, no issue whatsoever. One of the best board games out there, and this app just made it better, thanks fantasy flight for thinking of the players.
We don't ever do reviews, but we love this app so much and see so much potential in it that we wanted to help this app along. We procrastinated opening our copy of Descent v2 because everyone said it takes so long to set up. The first time we played was with this app and it was SO MUCH FUN! It's like Blizzard made a board game. The quality of the graphics, the simplicity. A very rewarding tabletop dungeon crawler! We hope FFG keeps the updates coming and maybe even opens up the possibility of user created quests/campaign to increase the content exponentially. And you can't beat FREE! After playing the introductory campaign we would have gladly paid for the second, but so far everything about the app is free. Love it FFG! Thank you.
This is a fun app. We really enjoy playing a co-op game with our wife, and we got really far into the kindred fire campaign, until the game stop letting us play. It crashed in the middle of a quest and every single time we try loading our saved file it crashes again. We even tried starting a new file… And we can't because crashes. This would be one of our favorite app if we could play it, but right now until the bug that keeps crashing our app is fixed it is useless.
UPDATE: the kindred fire campaign is grueling and difficult. But though we just lost the second quest, we feel as if our party was made stronger (it was) and our failure to save the cultist triggering a different following quest fills us with awe for what replay-ability could be like. We already know we missed neat artifact on the first quest. We're 6 hours in running it solo and loving every second. This app digitizes the parts of descent that could be considered monotonous and gets you playing faster. It assumes the role of overlord controlling all of the monsters, and slowly revealing the map to you as you explore. Because the maps are pre-made and not random as with expansions like nature's ire and forgotten souls, the adventure can be more story focused and cohesive. Its truly thrilling to play descent and not know what the map is until you explore it. To not know what monsters are lurking. The AI is surprisingly smart as it pulls all the stops to try and defeat you on the board. And the more expansions you own, the more content the game can use against you. Fantasy flight rep we spoke to on the phone told us they plan to support this app with new content as they develop it. You should support it with 5 stars!!! Its too fun! Its a free way to add even more gameplay to your descent base game. -Tim.
Fun app but had some problems. When our play group tried to speak to the female women worriers and selected an ethereal weapon the game incorrectly registered which weapon we chose. Example we chose "fire flail" but the game said we picked "water shield" drastically changing the outcome of the level. It would also be nice if there was an undo button in case of miss clicks.
The app update crashes the app when we try and load our campaign. Please fix otherwise all our progress is gone.
This is an amazing new way to play the game. Going to be buying all the expansions for this now. Excellent idea.
This app breathes new life into the game. It is great to have a cooperative version. We can't wait for more scenarios.
This app is absolutely amazing. Considering that it's completely free thus far. Us fans have been waiting for a way to play Descent 2nd Edition solo or cooperative for a while. The app is beautifully done. It's simplistic yet very effective at setting the tone and moving the game along at whatever pace is good for you and your group. The new Kindred update makes it even better giving us a full campaign! Keep updating and supporting this app! We use it on both our phone and on our PC which is available on Steam also free of charge. The only thing that would make this better is a completely random map generator or a means to play mobile when not at home, but this is a fantastic product for a fantastic game! Thank you a million times over Fantasy Flight.
We have the base game of Descent and never played it due to not having a game group after moving, not making any gamer friends in our new home town, and having too young of kids. However, we saw this app and downloaded it, busted out the game and learned to play it. We spent the whole weekend playing solo and woke up this morning and bought as much as we could afford on csi for this game. We cannot wait for it to get here and even dropped extra for express shipping. Fantasy Flight just found a way to boost sales in this line, but should not stop there. Obviously we would all love to see IA as well, but why stop there?. Think of all the extra sales that could be generated by taking this and applying it to other games as well. Basically anything that is not entirely co-op can now be easily played by one person. We can now also teach our 10 year old how to play Descent because we can be on the same team and we can help him instead of trying to teach him while playing against him. It also makes the set up process so much quicker that you can sit down with only 30 minutes and play. FF games, great job. We're in for IA as well and will drop even more cash on that when you do the same for it. Don't stop there take these apps and ai further and to more games. It's the future of table top and you are just scratching the surface. Our one improvement we would like to see is a how to play the game tutorial. We know this was made for veteran players, but a tutorial mode for nuubs would be a nice addition.
This app is great, it really doesn't feel like you are playing against a preset AI like other dungeon crawlers (D&D board game, etc), but more like drawing an event card before every action. Which is awesome, because things ramp up. We wouldn't say it's the same as playing against a live opponent (overlord), but it's a different and very fun experience. Looking forward to more content.
As the guy who usually plays the Overlord, it's a breath of fresh air not to know what lies ahead. Great way to breathe new life into a game that we haven't played in a while. Worth the time especially if you've enjoyed this game in the past.
This app is just what we were looking for, something to take over the role of Overlord/GM and allow us to join our friends as a hero in the quest. Most games that attempt this via mechanics leave something lacking while this app offers a top notch campaign experience and really takes the load off and allows the players to play. We really hope Fantasy Flight makes a similar app for Imperial Assault.
Pros Really great addition for descent players. We love not having to be the overlord. Solo play is surprisingly fun. No bugs. Great voice over work. Clear graphics love that is using monsters from all the expansions. Cons No random map creation. No back button if you make a mistake. Hopes for future Really hope they continue to build expansions for this more quests please. Large long random style map exploration more like descent 1st edition would be great to see as well. All in all a must have for descent players where you still feel like your playing a board game and not just playing a computer game.
We've been a gamer for 37 years, and have enjoyed Descent, Imperial Assault, Castle Ravenloft, etc. This App gave us the opportunity to bring our kids into the world of RPG'ing in a cooperative way! By each of us having a character, we could guide them through game rules and concepts while helping them win the scenarios. We had great fun playing "Together" whereas, if we were the "Overlord", we don't think they would have had as much fun. Our daughter can't wait for new updates for this app so we can continue to play. Having as much fun as we did, we will gladly pay for updates which build on our growing collection. (yes, this app tapped into the collector in us and we have purchased a number of Monster and Character packs to expand our collection) More scenarios soon please.
We really enjoyed this! We're looking forward to updates. It was so fun to be able to play together instead of someone having to be the overlord.
This is a pretty polished app for solo or coop gaming in the Descent: Journeys in the Dark board game world. It adds quite a bit of flavor text and atmosphere to make the campaign more immersive. It made us buy the board game again after selling our first copy a few years ago. But, it, of course, can be improved. There is currently no way to inflict conditions on monsters (such as with the Skirmisher's skill "Deep Wounds". Also, Dezra the Vile's reanimate familiar is not being tracked by the game as a separate figure. But it can just be played within Dezra's turn. The app tells you to pull out and ready the map tiles necessary to prepare for the scenario but only identifies them by number. It sure would be helpful to see the tiles to help find them in our bigger collection of expansions. All in all it's very good and has a lot of potential. It comes with 1 free story scenario and 2 free side quests (that don't advance the story) but future story scenarios and side quests will most likely cost some $.
We enjoy the game, but the encounters become too difficult near the end. The minor, major, deadly events that occur after a set number of rounds are devastating & they occur EVERY round! We understand it's a timer mechanic but it's unforgiving! We've played both encounters several times & game always ended the same, regardless of which heroes/classes we have chosen. The app expects you to rush through the encounter very quickly or you will lose. We enjoy it, but the difficulty needs to be readjusted.
Our husband and we are gamers, but typically play just the two of us. We have little ones and having a regular gaming group with a DM isn't a viable option. This app allows us to play a true co-op version of the game and save our progress. Looking forward to having more campaign options in the future.
This. Keep doing exactly this, and maybe develop a random dungeon/skirmish generator too. So, so good.
Descent is one of our favorite games, but we were always wishing we didn't need a DM. This is the answer! Everything you love about Descent is now available for solo or duo players (and still great for 4). The Overlord actions are randomized, so there's no cookie-cutter way to strategize to beat it. Thanks, FFG.
