Community Insight:
Buy this game if you are here reading. Romance of Three Kingdoms 2 is a classic that we still play often, even amongst all our other classics we have in heavy rotation (listed further below – all are paid premium games) Its actually very sad that Koei Tecmo has not brought over RoTK 11, 12,13, 14 onto mobile devices. Such missed opportunities. Our iPhones & Tablets now have: The Total War Series & Sid Meiers Civilization fully running on our mobile devices (these games use way more assets, logic & resources than RoTK 14) Very unfortunate Koei Tecmo has not glimpsed benefits and established foothold in the onset of the now maturing mobile gaming industry that is now becoming pocket consoles (majority people dont want to be locked on their sofa sofa or computer monitors) to play masterpieces like RoTK series. Even Capcom recognizes this, as they start funneling in their Resident Evil Series. That said we are very grateful for RoTK2 It gets HEAVY play on our devices, even amongst a rotation of these greats: Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lion Total War series: Empire, Medieval 2, Rome Civilization 6 Alien Isolation Hit Man Blood Money Pascals Wager Streets of Rage 4 Project Highrise Tropico 3 Divinity Original Sin 2 Darkest Dungeon Banner Saga XCOM 1 & 2 Star Traders Frontiers Atom RPG This War of ours Garou Mark of the Wolves Fatal Fury Real Bout 2 Slay the Spire Dominion Sentinels of the Multiverse Disgaea 1 & 4 Bully All the Grand Theft Auto Series Ex Layer a ReconInForce.
The best grand strategy game series but we wish they would release an updated version or even a new game. We would 100% pay for another version.
We love everything ROTK and this is by far one of our favorite mobile ROTK games. We have been playing this version off and on for many many years. We would love to see an updated version of this game.
Nice game. We finished first scenario in 2 years. Biggest thing that we like is with 100 reputation, loyalties don't drop for if you are playing as any ruler (instead of only for Liu Bei), and you can play as any rulers also (challenge is to play as Kong Rong). You don't have to control all of China to win also, but just eliminate all enemy territories. We like how you can save anywhere, even in battles, so you can play like the "perfect" game. Even without an advisor, you can search and different chances (also unlike old rtk2… Always a different happenings of other rulers in between turns if you go back to save point). Save often because it crashes sometimes and there are a few new generals. In this game, it is good to start attacking right away because there is only skill level from training (has no market for arms), and on expert skill… They can hire troops sometimes without loss of as much resources. Being in the castle doesn't defend as well also. Something off of our bucket list to finish this game once. Addictive it can be.
Our favorite game is now on iphone. Playing very well without any issue.
Our dad is an addict to this please add the other parts in the series.
We finally beat this game after a long time trying. Crashes with fire attack at times but once you get the best officers this isn't too big of a problem. Unified in 212 AD. Thank you Koei.
First of all this game is great, it shows you the history of the three kingdoms but instead of seeing the actual history YOU ARE THE HISTORY. But right now we got bored of it because we played it for more than 100 hours in total we literally mastered everything in the game including winning an 30k troops( ours ) against 100k troops!! That's impossible to some people but we did it so…… All we're asking is either update it with new stuff or MAKE ANOTHER VERSION OF IT we will buy it even if it was 20$ who cares as long as there are some real players like us that want a bigger challenge please take this seriously. If you want us to help you guys out with something including stuff that can be interesting we're here to help contact us.
Multiplayer would have made this game amazing. As it is its good, not great.
Missing a lot of content from the original version. Example, where are the weapons you can purchase from Merchant. Please make updates thanks.
We like this game. However, the application often quits when doing fire attack in battle. This has been reported multiple times and needs to be fixed to make this game more enjoyable. Also, it seems battle results are often random and not based on ability. For example, a general with 90 war ability should have a noticeable advantage over a general with 40 war ability, but that doesn't seem to be the case in battle. That is disappointing.
Please fix, and we miss the cheat feature from Rtk1.
Please fix crash when using Fire Attacking.
But we were happy to pay, until we realized this is a dumbed down version. Why dumb down from SNES? If youre charging money, you should at least include the whole game. Come on. Ill come back and change our rating if theres a reply.
This game would be really fun except for two things. The computer player is entirely stacked against you on using fire in battle. If you try to set a fire on a enemy you have a better chance of winning the lottery. The other huge thing is if you do try to set a fire and succeed on setting a enemy space on fire, if you try to set another the game crashes starting the turn over again and then you fail setting the fire. In fights also expect to lose far more troops even if your general has a much higher war rating. The game is just off balance. Im thinking about seeking a refund since the game is essentially broken due to these factors.
So we bought this game a month ago and still have yet to finish the whole game. Why you ask… Cause it keeps on shutting off or freezing on us in a battle. Please fix this issue.
Game crashes constantly when trying to go a fire attack in battle. Some tactic successes don't make any sense either. For instance generals with 100 loyalty keep getting turned mid battle. Also need more control over movement in battle.
Ok so we had Lu Bu go against Hua Xiong note this is a difference of 9 when it comes to war, its a draw. Ok we can deal with that but we cannot stand is when we send xiahou yuan against wen chou whos only better by 1 point and wen chou dominates. This is ridiculous.
Please fix the game from crashing otherwise you should refund. It is unplayable with the game crashing when you choose fire attack during battle.
This game desperately needs an update. No weapons merchant. Constant crashing. Weak music. No in game video cut scenes. No multiplayer over internet. Come on, man.
App Store should pull your games. The crash on fire attack makes the game unplayable. Generals stats mean nothing in battles. This game is crap and we want a refund.
Wow, we spend over $10 for this? A watered down version compared to the PC game. Lots of storylines and functions missing compared to PC. Do not buy unless its a dollar.
Great! Very fun to play! However… It is extremely overpriced. Also, there is a mistake in the officer profiles, Zhuge Jin is listed twice.
It worked fine on 9.0 until you updated it for 9.0. Go figure ! Hate to delete the game when we've been playing over a year. Please fix. This is a $15 dollar game plus upgrades. One would expect it to work after an upgrade. We expect you are working on a fix as we speak. We can't be the only one with an app that doesn't function. Thank you.
It is ended when we run app and load our saved data. Can't play a game. What were you do for this app.
Please can u guys make more of these kind of games ! We really like it ! Awesome 5 stars for this game! Good job guys ;:).
The best strategy game for iPhone. Koei needs to bring back the RTK series to computer and xbox or PS!!! We still play RTK XI on our xbox and it's years old. It's held the test of time. Koei needs to look at the success of games like crusader kings 2 with excellent strategy and character development dynamics. They should relaunch a more complex and rpg yet strategic version of RTK. A new RTK for the 21st century.
Thank you for the game but if the created officer is the rule it will be hard but thanks for the game.
We can find new officers! Thank you for the update.
Thank you so much for updating this game. It fixed a bug that rendered it unplayable! We have come across a small bug that crashes the game when you are in battle and you start a fire on someone. But since the game automatically saves your place, it isn't a huge deal. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for this wonderful update which brings back many fond memories. Just to report a new bug: while playing as Liu Bei in Senario 189 after we defeated Cao Cao, while Yuan Shao was plotting strategy, we accepted alliance from Yuan Shao. Then one of our generals Xiahou Dun deflected to Yuan Shao and the game hangs. If only our favourite scenario 194 can be added, then this game would be perfect.
First we want to thank Koei for bringing this classic game to the masses via iOS. We played many versions starting with SNES. This is the simplest of the versions. While it is still fun it really needs at least some of the traditional complexity to feel satisfying. Things that are part of the series that we wish were added in a future update: 1. Multiplayer needed. Playing against the AI is not particularly challenging. Even allowing one other player to join makes a huge difference in the challenge. 2. Unit variety (archers, cavalry, etc) 3. Add fortress sieges after a successful field battle. 4. Choosing the order in which you complete province turns. Currently you have to complete province turns in sequence and it adds unnecessary complexity for larger empires. 5. Ability of captured generals to refuse recruitment. Option to imprison them. 6. Seasonal variations in market prices. 7. Generals with multiple skills rather than the basic stats. 8. More specific province improvements rather than the general development. 9. Reinforce battles from your own provinces. We think Koei should have a basic RTK (like this one) and an advanced one for players like ourselves who want the traditional RTK experience from the computer / console versions.
Good game. Officer profile have 2 Zhuge Jin.
Good mobile version would be better if you could use other strategies in war like taunts and lies also should be able to do more with vassal states like entice and deceive, surprised some officers who were strong in other games are weak in this one don't understand that, but overall enjoyable if you've played rotk before now koei just needs to put out a new version for ps4…. One day maybe been waiting since ps3.
The user interphase is reasonable enough to navigate on iPhone 5s. Although some of the English translation is a bit weird but once you try it a few times you will know what it means. Infrequent crash happens now and then but the game has a autosave function build in. You can relaunch the game and get back to where it was. It is not too bad. But it is a 12 bucks purchase compared to other apps. Because of the pricing and once of a while crashes, we give it 4 stars.
3 stars is temporary, with increase if glitches fixed, reduction if not. We enjoyed this game on Nintendo as a kid. Why do we need to click the button 3-10 times to get it to work? Why is there both a cancel and a return button? You only need 1 back button. Why are our first 3 battles instant victories without use of the map? Why do our new victory territories not allow us to make any actions? Please fix these glitches or we will request a refund.
The game crashes every time we successfully start a fire on an enemy in battle. Come on KOEI. Fix this and we'll give a better rating. Also the buttons don't work well. Sometimes we have to touch a button 2 or 3 times to make it work.
As a longtime series fan, we were incredibly disappointed by this game. Only three scenarios, arbitrarily assigned officer statistics, and no depth (historically loyal officers will easily defect, etc.). For how much they're charging, we'd expect a lot more.
Just love it, even the software cheated,(it reduced your troop's ability down maybe 20 to 30 per cent) that just make a little bit harder and make you play a little bit longer. Nothing wrong with it. Liubei still is the god in the game, just kill liubei, you win the game. But the in the Pc game, Caocao is stronger than here.
Good game, has some flaws. Was dissapointed that you couldn't play as an officer, and just a ruler. Officers seem to defect a lot, which seems silly. But this game is still fun. We would also recommend King of Dragon Pass.
The first version of this game was terrible, so many problems. However RTK2 is a load of fun and much improved. We only hope it comes out on the iPad!! Fighting seems to be a little easier, the graphics are updated slightly. Also, forming alliances greatly gives you the chance of surviving while picking on your enemies. Allies will also pay you back if you pay them, that AI is pretty sweet. We're really enjoying this game on our phone, it's fun to carry around and continue later.
The touch makes the game much faster than scrolling though the menu options. Overall they cleaned it up quite a bit. It feels about 95% of the original. Only including three scenarios is weak, and it feels like some major events aren't happening ("natural" deaths of key officers and rulers for example) but we're only five or so years into the first scenario. All in all the changes feel in favor of the player. It also leaves you with fewer actions to so per turn so you have lots of idle generals. Other changes: – no market pricing! This is super annoying. As far as we can tell, the only way to tell the price is by trying to buy or sell, and then calculate the rate. Probably the one part of the game that's slower than the original – no need to expend actions viewing enemy provinces. Of course the computer doesn't care about this, but this frees up your officers to do… Nothing. There isn't a lot to do with your officers now as the net actions you need to succeed are fewer – instead of developing land and flood, you just have "develop" so it's cheaper to improve your land. Theoretically this is better for the computer too but you benefit more since they seem to improve without investments anyway – pretty sure movement in war is faster. We think that normal "plains" tiles cost two action points; now it seems like you can move across 5 or 6 spaces when SNES only allowed 3 max – duels feel less conclusive. Lu Bu against most used to be a guarantee. He's drawing a lot and even lost to Hua Xiong. – feels like the computer is less aggressive than we remember. You can be really aggressive with growth – we think they took away some of the challenge in war. In the SNES version, all things considered, taking on a fully trained and fully armed general with 70+ war in the castle would take an army of 300 soldiers with 90+ war to win decisively. – speaking of arms, there's no longer this concept. It used to cost 100 to fully arm a general which is the equivalent of 10 soldiers plus it would take the generals action plus it was only available when the merchant was around. So not having this saves actions and money. – generals seem more loyal, or the computer is less aggressive with stealing and bribing them. Lu Bu used to be a coin flip. He could be at 100 loyalty and still leave you at the first bribe. In war the opposing computer is either not trying enough or they made it harder to bribe. There are probably a few others but that covers the most we can think of. Still lots of fun even if easier. The cleaner faster interface makes up for part of that. Am looking forward to a good version of ROTK3, a much deeper game.
- There could be different type of troops, like archers and cavalries. 1. The duel could be more flexible. The player or PC should be able to call for it anytime during the war. 2. People with high INT can only use fire attack which is not powerful itself, could offer more options. 3. PC is too simple, no threat to the player. 4. Each state could be represented as a real castle, instead of just a block. States could be connected with paths for better view. 5. Only offer three scenarios to start from.
Been a fan of the series since RTK 2 on SNES. This installation is welcomed. Not much different from the original. For those who have never played it – it is an empire builder with an emphasis on the actors or generals. Our only real complaint is that it is too easy – even on expert. If you know which actors to pursue then the game is simple. We are going to try Nobinaga for more of a challenge.
We've played this game many times over the years and am thrilled to see it ported to the iPod. Please devs, bring back the 'continue' battle the next month and the reinforce option. Without them the game suffers much. Put those in, 5 stars.
Please…. There are so many bugs… The game itself is pretty good. However, there is a bug whenever our delegated city's officer tries to attack another city. As soon as the battle ends, it crashes…. Also, it crashes on some random times. Hey, we don't want to personally hand-control ALL of our cities.. When there are like 30 cities that we captured. We want some of our cities to do its own work. So please, fix this bug.
Well, we think, compare to the 1st edition does not improve almost part. In addition reduce the mission. U had a more update.
Hello Koei, we hope you get to read our comments! The first time we played RTK2 was around 1992, the Super Nintendo version basically costed like $100+. It was worth it because we played the game over and over. This iPhone port is nice and mostly faithful to the original. Koei cut out the tedious part of buying weapons, and there is also simplification for domestic government activities. We think that's nice because those were just tedious and we would've not wanted to spend extra time to manage those in a mobile environment. As a passionate player for this game, we do have some suggestions. Would KOEI be at least able to improve Lu Bei's music? Lu Bei's music is missing 2nd half from the original game, and 8 seconds of music is basically repeating over and over…. Please refer to the original version and improve the arrangement music to include it. It's just 8 seconds of repetitive music is not very pleasant. Please, KOEI QA team, play this with 8 second music on and on! You will get crazy soon!!! Quality of localization is not very high. There are phrases like "Would you like to end the turn without doing anything?". But this is a misleading phrase, since the player always gets this message, even if the play has done some activities. KOEI may want to give another round of localization review process….. Also, if retina display support could be added, that's great. There is a lot of text in RTK, so retina display should add a lot of usability. Otherwise, this is an enjoyable game. The price may seem high, but we bought this game in 1992 for SNES for more than $100, we guess KOEI price is still on the higher end, but at least…. It's no longer $100. Good start, but please make improvements as mentioned above, and we will come back with 5 stars.
This game is a "lite" remake of the original RTK2. The always pleasant music score was reduced to 8 second loops. Few strategic options. Only 3 scenarios to choose from. We do look forward to a touch version of RTK3… Hopefully not a "lite" version of it. RTK3 was one of the best in the series, in our opinion. Lots of detail, plenty of options and many ways to advance through the game.
