It’s rated 4+ and currently has 454+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes Royal Game of Ur (AG) Stand Out
If you play more than one of my Ancient Games, I suggest you delete the individual apps and install the main one (Ancient Games). It will allow you to play them all and save disk storage.
The past is full of fascinating board games that haves been mostly forgotten. The Ancient Games collection aims to resurrect them as a meticulously crafted mix between what a player wants from an historical game and what he/she expects of a modern application.
-Play against the IA, friends and random players from around the world.
-Play Online & Offline.
-Multiple collectibles : boards, game pieces, dice, nameplates, etc.
-Challenges (Fun rule variants)
-Free cloudsave across the collection : your progress in one game is available in all the others.
-Much more features to come!
-Languages : English, French, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Spanish, German, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Russian.
Currently, the collection is comprised of four games : the Royal Game of Ur, Senet, XII Scripta and Puluc, but 40 games are in the works!
Each game will be added to the Ancient Games app and will have its own individual app as well.
The privacy policy has been updated in accordance to the latest data protection laws.

Community Insight:
This is our all time favorite of anything that has ever been in the Apple App Store. The designer of this app strives to improve and create new boards. The games are challenging and even allow the ability to play against other players online. You wont be disappointed if you download this app. Howard.
You didnt just stop at making this a board game. There are alot of different parts and pieces to keep in interesting. Also nice touch with the cuneiform. Love the art style but if some stuff could get cleaned up visually there is alot going on.
Always a fan of these apps reviving these extremely fun games.
We just found out this game existed. It was worth a few dollars to get rid of ads. Played our wife on two player today, and it worked well. Keep up the good work.
Love the history and love the newest update. We recommend this game.
The gameplay would be adequate except our opponent and we periodically get extra rolls for no reason. That ruins the strategy of the game. Also the game tries to monetize everything. Its such a simple game guys, lay off trying to squeeze every dime out of it. Do not recommend.
The free base game is fun, and as you advance, a small fee will allow for lots of ways to increase difficulty, try out different game rules, and explore the gorgeous game boards.
Great-great-great-great-great -great-great-great-great -great-great-great-great -great-great-great-great -great-great-great-great -great-great-great-great -great-great-great-great -great-great-great-great -great-great-great-great -great-great-great-grandparents used to play.
Love the game play, usually comes down to the last few moves.
We would like controller support for our backbone one controller so that we dont have to take it off.
Beautiful design, great game, good AI. Developers did a great job with this.
We really want to 5-star this game, in fact the whole Ancient Games suite. When it works, it is superb, and a barrel of fun. But since the dev recently began tooling the online player and login options, Ive not been able to get past the orobouros screen. Ive even reinstalled it several times. We do hope this issue can be resolved, perhaps with a less Unity intensive option.
We really like the app. We love that they designed the dice to be random like dice really would be. Makes it very fun and balanced. Itd be great if the ai had a difficulty setting. Right now the ai only focuses on the lead tokens unless forced to and it makes it a little too easy to win. Our only criticism is that the exp system is never consistently rewarded. When we play a random player and by chance win, the game says we won 150 exp but we never see it actually go through in the games leveling system. Otherwise we are having a lot of fun playing the game and highly recommend it.
A great game with both of the hypothetical rule sets included. Hours of strategy and fun.
Wonderfully executed both UI/UX, and artistry fitting of an ancient game. Love the subtle atmosphere created by the soundscape as well. Love that we can play real players as we live alone and am older with no friends or family anymore.
Ive been playing for years. We love ancient Egyptian games like Senet, royal game of Ur, jackals but this is our favorite.
New update eliminated all of our levels, boards, pawns, dice. Too frustrating to start over at square one. Loved the old game but we think we will abandon it now. No telling if a future update will do the same thing. Your progress isnt safe.
After we won our first game and watched ad, VICTORY SCREEN CAME UP with explanation of why you have to watch ads. At this point the game is locked and only way to replay game is delete app and reload app. FIX IT. SORRY YOU DESERVE 1 star rating for this blunder.
Love this game. But the most recent update broke the AI. When playing solo, the AI is taking multiple turns in a row. EDIT: Yay! The AI is fixed. After updating, had to let it play one more corrupted game first. Once that was done, played again and it was good! Thanks for being on top of this.
This was a fun game until the last update. Now when we play against AI the whole thing seems to have gone rogue. The opponent gets multiple turns while ours are skipped. Not at all happy anymore.
Senet or Scripta doesnt work at all. We spent $29 on ad removal for a yearnow we get to stare at the game details for 2 mins before we can continue. The graphics and play are pretty good, no complaints there. It really chaps our hide that we paid for three games but only got one.hence the one star.
We love this exciting game which already makes it a win and fun to play on an iPhone. The developer cant take credit for that. However, thoughtful elements such as the game atmosphere, customizations, online multiplayer, a CAMPAIGN, and so much more are all products of this devs dedicated mind and add up to a great app experience. Im grateful that they chose not to take the easy approach of creating a bare-bones, ugly version of the Royal Game of Ur but instead chose to do something much more difficult: make it super cool.
A simple yet addictive game. Attractive graphics and layout. It would be nice to be able to communicate with the other player and add them to some sort of list of opponents to reconnect with.
Ads are not too annoying, since they only appear after a game and are skippable. We would pay to remove ads, but the pricing is ridiculous. $3.99 a month, $26.99 a year, or $44.99 to remove ads forever. We would pay at most $5.00 to remove ads as a one time payment. That being said, Im content with being served ads since theyre not that bad. The AI is good and the dice rolls feel fair. The only exception to this is the challenge bot Menes. It feels totally rigged compared to the dice rolls other bots get. Honestly its fine, because it makes for a more intense game overall. This is definitely the best looking game of Ur on the AppStore, so we wont be switching any time soon. Update: we didnt realize the pricing was for the entire collection of games from this developer. This makes a lot more sense and isnt all that bad. Also, the daily challenges that specify which challenge game you must play doesnt matter. Even if the daily challenge says, Beat Ganeshs challenge twice we can play any of them and earn progress.
This game used to be awesome, now, every time we invite a friend to play Ur, we move then it freezes. We cant even abandon! Please fix it.
Thank you Sullivan, for bringing this ancient game back to life, and your prompt customer service! Give this game a try, you will enjoy it! For even more enjoyment, get a paid version.
This series of ancient games is clearly a work in progress, but the three games released are all beautiful and a lot of fun. The gameplay is solid in all three although the other features are only partially complete. Id be happy to pay to remove ads for the series but even that feature is not yet working. We look forward to when the individual games and the series is complete.
Simply put, this is a beautiful and very engaging version of a classic strategy game. The only knock we have against it is that the online player vs player matchmaking isnt fair. We got paired against a player that had special power ups who was able to jump 8 moves all the way down the board and remove our pawns without touching them. Id like to play other players online, but not if its an unfair match.
However, the algorithms used by the computer are totally out of line lol THE CHEEEAAAAT! We do enjoy the game but its honestly very obvious that the programmer has more of a bias than a natural dice throw would. Maybe now that the PvP has been fixed, we wont have to play the computer too much anyway.
We absolutely love the game of backgammon, and we tracked down the Game of Ur from research into its predecessors. We didnt expect much from an app of such an ancient game, but this one blows away all of the backgammon apps Ive tried. We now play this game way more. Luckily many backgammon strategies work well in Ur. We plan on making a roll-up travel version of this game and take it backpacking with us in the mountains. Kudos to the developer for the time and care that went into this excellent reproduction.
Playing against computer or rando online works beautifully. Playing locally or against a friend online is a little buggy, but the developer is working on a fix.
We love games like this. Luck of the roll, yet strategy too. Ive even got our students begging to play. So glad we found it.
This is a really fun game. Im surprised people stopped playing in all those centuries ago.
Ive bought about purchasing this game on Amazon for 75.00. This saved us a ton of money and we get to play people from around the world. Very happy.
This game is easy to learn, easy to play, and still very challenging! Just enough chance and strategy to be exciting.
Very interesting and easy to use.
We LOVE this game. The only drawback we have is that we keep playing instead of going to sleep.
This game is really wonderfully made and organized. We thoroughly enjoy it.
We absolutely love this game. It is one that you can play both off and on line either on your own or against another player. We like that there are different skill levels available so that the game stays interesting and challenging.
We found this after watching Tom Scott play Irving Finkel. It is good.
Fun game, still learning it but Im going to keep it.
We would have benefited from finding the tutorial earlier but its easy to pick up.
The app has two rule sets, great AI and human opponents. This is a great choice if you want to play Ur.
We've been wondering about this game for the last 50 years. Then Dr Irving Finkel and other researchers have translated the original rules from Cunieform. Now, we can play the ancestor of backgammon.
Interesting to see how fun this 4500+ year old game is.
A friend sent us the video from The British Museum YouTube channel, and it was love at first sight. A wonderfully simple, but rich in history and one that pre-dates both chess and backgammon.
We loaded this app because our husband said it was fun. He is absolutely right! We are now completely addicted. :-) Its easy to learn and very fun to play. The graphics are incredible and so is the music. You wont regret it.
Too many game apps either designed the app to be way too simple or way too complicated. This one found the sweet spot! It is impressive a developer would do such a good job on an ancient game. Thank you.
We heard of this game from a History channel TV show and had to see if it existed on the App Store. So glad it does. Great game.
This game from millennia ago isnt just interesting for its historyit is also a really engrossing strategy game. The app is also well made, runs well, and has beautiful visuals.
