This was written for old phones, older Apple ecosystems, but still plugs along just fine. We love the almost home-made sound effects. We dont love the cloud sync conflict screen that shows white rectangles instead of helpful text.
Refreshing, entertaining and challenging each time the game is played to the very end. Great graphics and spectacular music. Good plots to keep you entertained.
This is what games should be. Creative, clever, fun, and not filled with game killing mechanics that require you to buy in-app purchases. You buy it once and it is yours, no reserves. More people that like matching games should play this.

Looks generic and stupid in screenshots. Is cute and unique and piratey in motion. The only reason we discovered the game was due to a glitch that made our RSS reader show old blog posts from Ron Gilbert and we feel guilty for not finding it earlier.
Fantastic game! It is wonderfully addictive and challenging.
Difficult to advance or win since we keep fights as the levels progress. No way to win since never enough swords in higher levels.
We were enjoying this game until we got stuck we are frozen on a screen where the only valid move is to move ourselves. No way out, no way to quit the level. Developer does not respond to bug reports or emails.
Bought extra gold for 99 cents but game never gave us our extra gold. Forced us to die An start from beginning. Buyer beware.
We love this game! The first levels are fairly easy. But it has gotten pretty challenging at level 12. We haven't figured out the best strategy yet but still trying to. We will not give up because it is just too fun. We like the music and especially the sound effects.
Love this game. We have played it all the way through several times. Would love to see an additional adventure. Also please upgrade so it will work on future OS.

We really enjoyed playing this game, it gave us tons of hours of fun, we've recommended it to almost all our friends and to our wifw too, and now she is hooked to it just like we were.
We rarely purchase apps, but we bought this game sight unseen based on the fact that one of the designers is Ron Gilbert of Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. It's a match 3 but better. The direction you swipe to make your match determines where your character moves and where the new tiles slide in from. Which is super helpful since you have to avoid fighting the enemies until you've accumulated enough power swords. AND who doesn't love a pirate shanty.
Our bf got us into playing this game and we have been hooked ever since! Love the cute sense of humor throughout and love the upgrades system as well. Our only drawback would be having to start from the beginning if you die…unless you have enough gold to stay in the game or real money to buy gold. It gets tedious since we've had to start over 12 times! We lose all our progress! :(.
Bought this iPhone app because we love the Monkey Island games by Ron Gilbert. This game, though obviously very different, did not disappoint. Still so fun to come back to and very entertaining.
Didn't expect to enjoy it, but we do!! Showed it to our hubby and he plays it too! We love the quests and skills and ship building! All great features! We love the treasure bonus levels. Some of the regular levels can get monotonous but they definitely are challenging! Our only suggestion would be to add more different kinds of levels! Could even be a different kind of puzzle game. But we love the pirate theme and love the game.
We enjoy match 3 games and have played quite a few over the years. This one holds our attention longer than most because it has an entertaining story line. This game has just enough challenge to keep us interested without frustrating us (too much). It's a very enjoyable way to pass the time.
Every now and then we come across a game that will hold our attention for an hour or two before it is either forgotten or deleted. It is very rare for us to find a game that is so much fun we can't put it down for days on end. This games originality makes us want to keep playing just one more round before stopping. We enjoy its light humor, interesting characters and wonderful graphics very much. Scurvy Scallywags totally reinvents the match multiple items in-a-row type game. There are fun power-ups as well as a silly story to follow and stats to build. If you're looking for something familiar with a completely new twist, give this one a try.
This is a cute and fun game better than most match 3 fast moving but not intense can play and relax great concept.
This game is very funny and very easy to get addicted to. Done by Ron Gilbert who is practically a professional pc game comedian :-) we like to play it while listening to online lectures and visiting family, because it's easy to play and listen actively or hold a conversation at the same time. Works on older iOS too. Thanks so much for this.
The plot breaks up the minor monotony of another match 3 game. It is a ton of fun and requires a little strategy to complete. :).
So we are not a huge fan of puzzle games, especially bejeweled clones. This game, however, has us hooked! Match-3 style gameplay. Swipe left the board shifts left etc. When enemy pirates/snowmen/wolves/lava monsters/etc. Come on to the board, you swipe to keep them away while boosting your power. Quests for items are great too, as you have to swipe the enemies away while you swipe items toward yourself! Learning what skills combo well together also becomes important, especially in later levels where enemies are much stronger! Our favorite combo being "items to gold", "gold to power", "use all power"! All in all a very funny, solid puzzle game.
This is a great game. The music and sound design is so good it makes us question our standards of what is good today. The graphics and animation are crisp and smooth — the artists did a simple thing very well. We enjoy every minute we play this game. :D.

This game is a great time killer.
Scurvy is a refreshing match 3 with strategic RPGs elements plus pirate broadway show all in one. Your pirate character can be customized and moves around the board from matches, evading dangerous knaves bringing strategy to the mix. Just when you thought match 3 was stale, Scurvy is a welcome new treasure. Thankfully, IAP is minimal. Well worth the time.
We have been playing this game for about 4 months now… We love it. We love the storyline, the addictive game and the characters. Now we just need an update with more challenges and more levels.

This is a super fun match 3 game with a pirate theme. It's both deep and simple at the same time. We find ourselves obsessing over it. There are RPG elements with collection. And it's funny too. A light strategy masterpiece.

Cute, and offers a different style of play from the usual – you actually have a character on the grid who can pick up goodies and fight pirates and monsters on it. We've also had a lot fewer misinterpreted swipes than in Candy Crush.
One of the best games for iOS. We love it! Not super easy, but not too hard/complicated either. Funny and attractive art style. Always new challenges to make it more intense, if you need more complications. We guess the best thing we can say is that we bought the single in-app purchase just so we could give the developers money! We will DEFINITELY purchase any other games they produce.
If you feel that you need to spend money to progress, just trust that Ron Gilbert doesn't hate you and let your pirate die. You'll re-gain your current level in half the time, losing no gold or skills.

We missed the talk-like-a-pirate-day special, but went ahead and bought this anyway. Not at all disappointed! We were expecting a different type of match 3 puzzler and was happy to find this game's unique take on the formula. And the music is freakin awesome.

Really enjoying this charming and witty game! So far: good game play, good power-ups, entertaining. So far we've died a couple times. At first we were sad how much gold it took to resurrect our pirate, but then we just let the pirate die and it turns out you get to keep all your stuff when you start over except some level point upgrades. So we're on pirate 3 or 4 now and each time we get a bit further before dying, and each time there are some new quests and stuff. So actually that seems cool. So our only complaint is that we can't listen to our podcasts or Audible while playing. A bummer and may eventually limit our replay but for the time being, the game is so good we can live with it. We recommend this one.
This game really needs to allow podcasts and other audio support. That's not to say that the music is bad by any means… We really enjoy the soundtrack. As for the gameplay, when we start playing, we don't want to put it down.
Incredibly addictive match 3 Rogue-like.
We've played several of these RPG/Match-3 blended games, and this is one of the better ones. There is no handholding, so it can become quite challenging, yet it is never becomes impossible. Like all games of this type, it can become repetitive, but the humor and general silliness of the cut scenes helps keep it entertaining. Thumbs up from someone who rarely takes the time to write reviews.
