The only downside is the pause button prevents you from using all the features of the original, because it pulls up the menu and stops you from holding it so you cant put in the confirmation mode code, we know thats kinda cheatery but Sega put that mode in for a reason and its part of what we love about it. That being said its still worth 5 stars.
Wish you could speed up the pace, but a great title.
When will you add the aforementioned game, cause we will definitely buy it and all its in game purchases???
The Shining series is easily one of the best collections that the Genesis ever released. These ports are well done, the gameplay was not altered or tinkered with in any way. They are just as much a joy to play now as they were in 1995. As a great bonus, the app is free! (In exchange for some required ad viewing, but not enough to ruin the experience). Our only critique, is we’ve had some glitchy moments with our game saves. Not a huge deal, but when youre at risk to lose 15 hours of progress into SF2, you might freak out a little.
We use to play these games back in the day and its just as we remember! Down fall is the direction pad. Its position sensitive and our thumb covers half the pad. Need a direction buttons without the swipe.
The story is great and the gameplay is fun But long story short, the save states and the save feature is glitchy we paid the $5 for no ads so save states could be used at anytime, but with the glitchy save feature , anytime we save can be the games last, and if we dont do it often (like every turn) then we may lose our progress A pc emulator could do better sadly, if not this game needs a serious update to fix the same feature If not only the Sonic games work Any and all others with this save feature(like Golden Axe as well) have this problem, please fix it sega.
Its shining force. The classic turn based strategy RPG that maybe wasnt the first but sure got that genre kicked off. Works very well and can be played anywhere. Unfortunately for us, the save anywhere feature is very unreliable. It appears to work but we have to completely restart the app every time because it manages to save the game but gets hung up while saving forcing us to restart.
The gameplay is brilliant, the Shining series is such a great series. Only one thing keeps us from investing in buying the app – the Haptic feedback option only works while moving controls around to customize, but not actually during gameplay. Not sure why but all of the Sega classics behave this way on our iPhone. Id pay for this game and Phantasy Star for sure if this was resolved.
We loved this game since the first time we played it. We wish they would make an updated version. Only personal issue is the joystick is a little tough to use.
We only downloaded this app for the Shining Force 2 title. Our expectations were pretty low, as most old console ports are poorly done and full of ads. However this game was by and large true to the original game and the ads only occur when you load or save your game file. These ads eventually didnt even seem all that annoying, as one of the same like 3-4 ads would play every time, so it almost felt like just part of the game. The ability to save anywhere (even mid-battle) in SF II is really nice. Overall a great free download with a good collection of retro ports of a mostly forgotten franchise. Try it out and let the forgotten heroes of the shining force take you on a journey really unlike any other rpg franchise out there.
We love Shining Force and dont mind watching the adds in order to save our game, but the save process often gets stuck in an endless loop, while never showing an advertisement. The app can also act on its own some times and make actions that we dont initiate. Apart form all that, its nice to be able to play on our iPhone.
The game is great, just dont use the apps save feature. It doesnt work. You have to save in the game at any priest.
Shining Force 1 and 2 are great games we recommend to anyone who likes RPGs, especially those like Final Fantasy Tactics. However, this app is buggy to a heavy degree. It often struggles to save the game, being caught in an endless loop of struggling to sign into the network, even when internet connection is flawless. This has happened many times. The consequence is that one can play for awhile and then lose ones progress because the game cannot save.
Bought the deluxe pack for the offline saving. Theres still no offline saving. Game freezes while savingrestart and restore works 50/50. Fact that Im giving 3 stars anyway testifies to how much we like the aspects of the game that do work.
Worked fine for a few days and now the sound is out. Only reason why we gave it 3 stars.
We loved these games on Sega Genesis and the gameplay here is the exact same. The only issue we have is that the touch buttons (A,B,C and direction pad) stick ALL the time. Its extremely annoying when it sticks and the game continues to hit the C button over and over becuz its stuck on. Stupid glitch that can ruin the game in a battle.
Constantly loosing progress because it wont allow us to watch an add to save. We get you want add money but please just let people save without the add to avoid loosing players.
We signed in to do the in-game save while playing Shining in the Darkness and it crashed. The bad part is we were just getting back to the place it crashed last night. We doubt anyone can fix this for us, so Ill just say this: ONLY SAVE VIA SHRINEdont mess w/the in-game save nonsense cuz it crashes.
Excellent version of our favorite game. *I went through to play a second time and the game glitched out and everything went into like slow motion. Kinda ruined it.
Seriously, who designed this d pad?! Its absolutely horrible.
We played for several hours and saved at the priest many times. When we came back to play the next day, all of our saves were lost. Also, the movement controls arent great.
Purchased this game previously but it wont let us restore our purchase, despite the app being in our purchase history. We wouldnt waste money buying any sega games on iOS since theyll just update the game and erase your purchases. CROOKS!!

Monetizing the ability to save the game, just wow. Some Sega employees need to take a good look at themselves in the mirror and just shoot themselves in the head.

All 3 games are old school masterpieces. We have to continually mash the a button to bring up the menu in shining in the darkness. Issue exists using screen controls and controller.
This is a decent way to play these games but you should probably stick to emulators if you want to activate turbo mode on Shining Force 2. You are unable to hold the START button due to the fact that its linked with your main menu. Id like to replay this classic but, its a bit slow especially compared to contemporary alternatives.
We love this game, but there is currently a weird glitch Im experiencing and Im not sure where to report it. While in battle and its your turn, when you hit B to unclick off the character to move the cursor around the battlefield, you are now unable to look at any character profiles. When you hover over a character with the cursor and hit A, its the same as if you hit C. This is really annoying because we like to see how much experience a character has while in battle. Again we love this game, but can no longer play it with this glitch. Please fix it, or have someone contact us to tell us what Im doing wrong.
This is a truly great game, however, it freezes about one out of every three save attempts. If the developers would fix this it would be 5 stars.
After reading all of the one star reviews regarding issues with saving the game, we noticed that it had been recently updated. The vague description of the details about what got updated wasnt exactly promising. But we decided to download it and see if the problem has been fixed. Sadly, it has not. The first time that we tried to save the game, it went into a permanent saving screen that forced us to manually close the game. Its a real shame, because we were looking forward to playing this game again after so many years. We dont know why the company isnt listening to all of the complaints.
We cant ever get past the loading screen. App worked once when we first downloaded it, hasnt ever worked since.
Paid $4.99 so we could use the in app save feature crashes all the time when trying to save. Still doesnt save thought maybe the ad integration was why it was crashing. NOPE. Save your money.
The game asks you to review it every time you open the app, so here we am. Please for the love of god, fix the saving in the game. Its been MONTHS. A broken save system in a game is always a super high priority issue, and game companies almost always treat something like that as ASAP hot fix. Its unbelievable how poorly this has been handled. The app itself is straight up broken, and its been months with no fix. Devs – the game itself was already created 30 years ago. All this app has to do is port it. And the port doesnt work. So 1 star is based on what THIS APP actually is. The game from 30 years ago would be 5 stars.
It was working last year, got to the end of the game, now cant progress because when you go to save it says game server signing in. Nothing gets it unstuck except force closing the entire app and losing your progress. Issue has been happening the last few months.
Ignore all of the older comments and bad reviews, we just downloaded this app for all 3 games, we paid for the 4.99$ add removal and we have not seen a single ad, Sega and or non sega ads (whatever those bad reviewers were saying) and its not clunky in the slightest either like all those other reviews are saying. 10/10 perfect platform for all 3 shining forces. Absolutely chef’s kiss!
We love that Shining Force 1 and 2 are available on iSO. Its great to replay these classics. The port works great on this platform, and the games are as fun as ever. Please add Shining Force CD and Shining Force 3 with all scenarios. We were also really looking forward to Heroes of Light and Darkness. We would love to see more Shining Force in the App Store, but Im also really thankful these are on mobile now.

We’ve always loved this game. And now we can play it again and on the go on our iPhone. Love it.
While we have better ways of playing Shining Force, it is convenient to be able to play this game almost anywhere. We will say the ads can be annoying but people are spoiled that they complain and give 1 star ratings to great ports just because they have to watch a 10 second add. We love this game and we think Sega did and excellent job with this port.
Disregard our previous comment, we figured out how to get around it.
Game Center refuses to connect sometimes which can get very frustrating. But so far the game its is great.
Every time we sign into Game Center, it keeps giving us an error. Any chance you can quickly fix this?
This is a great game being mishandled. We have the paid Shining Force Classics version and it worked fine for a while. Now, when we try to save we get an error message Unable to sign into the game server. Please try again. We contacted Sega support and they are investigating a fix. We will wait for a bit before requesting a refund.
We put in so many hours on this game after purchasing and its been really fun. But now Im getting this alert when we try to load our game UNABLE TO CONNECT TO GAME SERVER, PLEASE TRY AGAIN This is a big problem we tried everything we can think of to fix it but have had no luck. Any solutions? Or is this a fault of the app developer.
We never post reviews, but Im desperate. Id actually give this game 5 stars if we could – its a great emulator for one of our all time favorite games. The problem is since the last iOS update, the game keeps giving us an Unable to sign in to the game server. Please try again error, even though we AM signed in. Every other game we have can access the server just fine. That meant we couldnt log into the game at all. We uninstalled and re-installed the app (which meant we lost all our progress) and tried again. Now we can access the game, but we still cant save so we lose our progress every time we close the app. This is incredibly frustrating; Shining Force Classics is by far our favorite game we own and now its totally unplayable. Devs if youre reading this, Im begging for some help.
Would love to say this is an awesome port considering we paid for ad free the first game which is what we were hoping to play and enjoy bu there is no sound sooooooooooooo its kinda of just a $2 bummer at this point. Hope whatever causes there to be zero sound in this app is fixed would love to make use of and play Shining Force again on our off-time/ toilet time.
Recent update has broken the shining force 1 save feature, cant load or save. It will log into Game Center and then it will have a connection error.
Amazing games but awful app. Needs an update.
