Kharé is brimming with things to do and creatures to meet. Visit the Festival of Thieves, battle a ghost, escape from slavers, gamble your fortune at the Halls of Vlada, drink at the tavern, worship strange Gods, and much much more. Will you uncover the secrets of the city, overthrow the Council, destroy an invading army, or leave Kharé to burn?

From legendary designer Steve Jackson, co-founder of Lionhead Studios (with Peter Molyneux), and Fighting Fantasy and Games Workshop (with Ian Livingstone), and designed and adapted by inkle, the app uses inklewriter technology to tell your journey in real-time, shaping the story around your choices. The text itself changes based on how you play and what you do. In combat, the action is described on the fly based on how you play.

Featuring original illustrations by John Blanche and maps by Mike Schley (Wizards of the Coast).

"Kharé: Cityport of Traps" is Part 2 of 4. Part 1 is out now and Part 3, "The Seven Serpents", is coming later this year. (But while you wait, check out our new game, 80 DAYS.)

Sorcery! 2 Reviews

We are a magick fan and strategy lover. Not to mention when you give us a game that is good and well made. It will be an instant legend and always be played. More than likely you could play this game ten times over and not see the same thing twice. Its a very thought immersing, sophisticated, well put together and designed strategy game. The story, characters, lore, the items even are memorable, and the places you have traveled definitely will give you either fond memories or bad memories. Those memories and feelings can change quickly for one event that was previously not explored, or even a spell, or a different conversation can and will result in different reactions. We have so far, gotten through Sorcery One and half through Sorcery two, we did try Sorcery three and stopped to finish the second. We cant wait to finish them all and play again. You do not need thought provoking applications or memories and brain enhancing apps. Strategy, euphoria, thinking five, six and sometimes well ahead, while being mindful to a common person and just as cautious with what appears benign, but being open to take risks progress you in so many facets and ways in your mind and the game. It is in many senses, almost a game that can be utilized as a very seldom life experience for real life. Always be careful in all situations but live your life and have fun always while listening to all your senses and feelings. Your mind is the present, logic, and memories or reason. Your heart is what guides you and the present moment to always be aware of and follow. Your gut is instinct and the future. Always remember that and it will be understood in time to know if your heart and mind are being tricked by something you cant see if your gut is telling you no. Or if your gut says yes and your heart is weary is only telling you to proceed guarded but with courage. Always rationalize and never listen to anything but your internal voice. If it doesnt feel right. Its not. We guess we’ve been playing this game too much. Well. Back to it. Thank you!!!!

We cant stand this game. Im stuck with the old man in prison. Why is the old man so good at this. He doesnt guess wrong. Also the text color is almost the same as the paper color. So we cant even read wth the game is trying to tell us Weird mini game we hate it Why cant we cast dum on the old man in prison? And just beat him a few times and move on?

We love the choose your path story games.

We don’t usually do reviews, however, this story is by far the best game driven read out there! For a phone anyways!!

Play all the sorcery games. They are amazing!!!

This is our first game of the Sorcery series and it was brilliant, creative, and addicting. Going to download the first now, and then all of them.

One of the few mobile adventure games we’ve played and couldn’t put down. Rich lore, strong writing, and some smart elements of game design make for one amazing ride. Highly recommended.

We thought the first chapter was kind of short (finished in a day), but this one kept us entertained for at least a week. There’s a specific objective in this one which is more challenging than the straight-forward journey of the first chapter, and this one also introduces a neat mini game that will keep you occupied for a while.

I’d like more dungeon crawling treasure hunting stories after these 4 games.

It’s the best game ever especially the gambling building and we know a way to never lose any tokens all you have to do is rewind a little bit whenever you lose and you never even lost! We would recommend this game to anyone.

We love that they give you the choice to continue the story or end it at the end.

We went over the four apps in our review of the first book, Ill just add a few things. Again Inkle has enhanced an old, classic gamebook and created a fantastic game. This second volume is far superior to the first oneit takes a long time to understand whats going on, to gather all the clues that you need to succeed, although it is also the continuation of the previous volume. It can seem sometimes it will be difficult to finish it but it is never impossible, and the rich universe that lies behind the story is full of mysteries and twists and keeps you involved. A must-have.

Game is great. Or Better to say, story is. Not updated for newer devices. No iCloud backup sync support. Cant play between devices.

In the first installment, we felt as though we were really choosing our own adventure there were so many things we knew we were missing as we blundered our way through which really made the game feel magical and unique, and made us want to replay it to see what Id missed. In this one, you have to wander aimlessly through a city, covering every inching and getting thrown backwards or killed at any wrong step. Youre forced to collect 4 spell lines, ensuring that you experience the exact same things every time. We felt as though we were being railroaded by a storyteller who insisted on us playing through one particular story. Whats the point of a choose your adventure that forces you to choose the one right path?

Sorcery 1, 3, and 4 are all great and enjoyable games and stories but this has got to be the worst of them. It’s just plain bad. It punishes any form of exploration and wastes your time over and over again.

Based on the great reviews we read, we were really excited to play this game. However, after about 5 hours of playing, Im perplexed why people rate this game so highly. There doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to the consequences of your actions (sometimes you make a seemingly logical choice and you die; others times you pick something whimsical and get rewarded with treasure). The spell book mechanics are awkward, forcing you to flip back and forth between menus to try to figure out which spell might help in a given situation. And the storyline is a bit too linear for our taste, not allowing you to go back and explore areas you have previously been too. Thank god we bought this game a couple years after its release, so we only wasted $5 on it. Avoid at all costs.

Didn’t sign up for going through the game six times to find all the spell lines.

… It does. This game is an example of how apps should be made. Absolutely beautiful. Captivating. And to top it off, this game has a great deal more replay value than the first game in the series. Well done.

This is a really fun game. It is the more the urn version of a choose your own adventure book that also has a fighting system. It’s well written and has beautiful art. We also founded it to be very interactive. This second game in the trilogy is way longer than the first one. It has good replayability value and is more fun. If you like choose your own adventure games we highly recommend it.

As a long time lover of both exploring puzzle adventures (i.e. Myst, Riven, The Room, Drawn: the Painted Tower) and Interactive Fiction (IF) (Infocom’s Zork and the Frotz’ IF engine), we have struggled to find worthy contenders that have made the transition to the mobile app store (feel free to make suggestions!). Inkle has done an excellent job bringing Jackson’s Fighting Fantasy books to the new millennium and the mobile app store. Sorcery 2 is even more immersive and ‘classic IF’ than it’s predecessor, placing you in a more non-linear environment that requires you to wander around much more to solve the puzzles and reach your objectives. The many sub plots and side stories (which culminate in a climactic twistable ending) contribute to a greater immersive experience and preserves the feel and culture of IF but makes it fresh and vibrant once again. If you love any of the games we’ve mentioned above, then you won’t be disappointed with Inkle’s work with Steve Jackson’s Sorcery 2 (or 1 or 3 for that matter)

We don’t understand how this can have any reviews below 5 stars, the Sorcery! Trilogy is a masterpiece! Worth every penny and then some!

This game is so bad, we paid for Wi-Fi access on our flight just to write this review… Total piece of garbage. Text based adventure from 1985 where the "choices" make no difference- you lose your food, lose your health and die. Animation and graphics look like South Park circa 1998. The magic system is so obtuse, you have to call up this inventory to try and figure out the three digit code for the spell (more like a password)- except you can’t cast spells because this little Elf tags along with you and prevents you from casting spells (what a great idea!). Steve Jackson made some OK games back in the 80’s but they were always uninspired grinds, good to see that nothing’s changed. We bought the adventure pack, played through part of the first Sorcery!, deleted it, and deleted Sorcery! 2 without even trying it. It’s games like this that remind us why the Freemium model exists.

This game absolutely surpassed by expectations, it was by far one of the best games we have ever played. Worth every dollar.

We have played the first game 4 times and gotten many different endings as we’ll as doing 4 play troughs of number 2 when three comes out we will buy it no matter what. We’re interested in the bird men they alluded to in the first game and what kinds of amazing art they will make.

If you like a good story it’s the game for you.

Saying that Sorcery is an adaptation of a gamebook would be barely scratching the surface. It’s a book, it’s an RPG, it’s an adventure game. Above all, this episode is an exploration of a vast city filled with memorable characters and locations, with countless adventures to have, secrets to uncover and traps to avoid. This episode has all the features that made the first one great, and addresses some of its shortcomings. Those who found the first one too short and easy will have much more of a challenge this time – and might be tempted to go back to part 1 to prepare better. And those who’ve already gone through the books will find the city subtly changed (and more than a little expanded) from what they remember. Sorcery 2 is a magnificent game with tons of charm, polish and replay value, and we can’t recommend it enough.

Best game of its kind, period. Cannot wait for Sorcery! 3 This game couldn’t be better. Fantastic improvement over the book, and that’s saying a lot!

We played the first game and was so happy to find a game with the combonation of turn based combat, choose your own adventure, and puzzle solving we also love the spell-system how you have to write a 3 letter combo/word/abrivation. We beat the first in 2 days and searched for all the clues in this one however we still gave up and let lorag curse us, what we want to see in the next game is a way to possibly win over Lorag and have him either leave you or assist you cant wait for part 3 hope you make it soon.

The music, the writing, and the wood block style artwork all make this game wonderful. Definitely a top 5 game for us.

This is, by far, the most entertaining game we’ve played on our iPhone. It’s amazing how visual our memories of the different moments in this game are considering it’s mainly a text based game! This is not a game book, it is a constant stream of choices making the story feel like it’s being written as you play. The places, characters and moments are well written, and there are so many choices and outcomes the game could be played multiple times. $5 well spent!

We love this game but when is part 3 coming out?

By far the best app we have ever bought. We couldn’t put it down.

Loved playing it through multiple times and cannot wait for the next sequel.

We rarely find a game that won’t lose our interest after playing it for a little while. However, when we played this game we played it non-stop until we completed it (both chapters). Even our little sister who has never been too great at reading and has always completely hated it has been playing this so much that she probably has no clue how much she’s read. Even the art was spectacular from the map to the accession all picture hidden through the story giving a view of what your character was seeing. It was wonderful to see what was described in the story on the map. This is one of our absolute favorite apps and we can not see a time when it will ever leave our home screen. We are anxiously waiting for the next chapter of the story to be released.

This is the one of the best iOS games to date and we can’t wait for the next one! It has some great story telling, a fun combat system, a ton of interesting spells, and choices that really matter.

We played the Sorcery! Game books as a kid, and this app is even better than the original source material (which we loved). The minor bugs we previously encountered all seem to have been fixed. Our only minor critique is that we would like to be able to delete some of the cloud-saved games.

We don’t know what to say. This game is amazing. There are tones of layers to the story. The gameplay is great, and combat is fun. Do yourself a favor and buy this right now.

This we worth the money its a great story and a great way to spend time and we thought d&d was fun. We cant wait for part 3.

We can’t believe how much mileage we got out of this game. We played the first Sorcery three different times and loved each adventure, but our first playthrough of Sorcery 2 was way longer than all three of the original playthroughs combined. We could probably play this game three more times and still not see all the content. Thank you Sorcery team!

We played the first one and carried on the story it was the best app we’ve ever played we completed the game in two runs and never played swindle stones XD.

The game is a text-adventure, but it is so well written and has so many splintering choices it is well worth the purchase price. Great illustrations, compelling story, fun mini games within, and most importantly unlimited replayability! A must have game on the iPhone, can’t wait for Part 3.

We can count off games of this quality made for mobile devices on one hand. This one does not wow for the graphics. The story is fascinating though. It took us two days of solid playing just to find all the clues. We know we missed loot and such we could have gotten. A word to the hesitant: buy the first one first. It is shorter, but it’s important. And several days later we’re still playing. For those that are startled by the price there is no advertisements. No nag to review and no in app purchases.
